I got one and it's great to have everything in one unit. The tube boost gives you a nice fat sound for leads. Like everything complex needs some word to understand it's capabilities.

I love my mark v head with the pentoid tube settings. With my Mesa 4x12
I own a Zoom G5, I can say that it's not very good for extreme heavy tones, but you can get some pretty decent tones if you know how to tweak it. Willie Adler definitely didn't play to much with the effects, you can tell by the huge gain he put into the Boogie simulation LOL.
I'm heavily leaning towards the G5 just purely for effects reason (I have a 6505+ 112 for tone). Is this a good idea?
If you're going to use only the effects, I suggest you to get the G3, much smaller and it has the same quality.
Pedro Junior I don't care about size and I prefer the 4 pedals as I use Flange/Phase/Trem/Chorus
You could use the G3 in patch mode, would work just fine, but the G5 is awesome in my opinion, and it sounds great on the loop fx when I tried on my amp, very transparent sound and doesn't affect your tone at all. You just need to change the output setting to "combo fx loop". So I'd say go ahead and try it!

He's definitely got the gain too high, use a compressor and tweak the tube boost to avoid pain to your ears!! :-) I personally like to use this tube boost for chain mastering at the end but its no replacement for a tube distortion/od for a preamp, the Zoom G9.2tt has 2 tubes or get a tube pedal to chain into this pedal to master with the tube boost xD
Uh, Zoom is way better than this. It's funny though how all the bedroom rockers are the "experts" who demand the finest in gear and tone. I gig all the time and I will tell you these sort of processors are invaluable in most scenarios. THIS was a poor demo because of the patches and the way the sound was captured. I can tell you Zoom, Digitech, Fractal, Line 6, whoever all make very usable gear. The end result is a sound that emulates a amp and cab that's been mic'ed up and put through a PA. Show me a noisy bar or club where people will know the difference, I've yet to find a crowd that really cares what's on my headstock or what my rig is.
For all those who dump this pedal just because the tone this guy uses here is shit, I tell you that there is a lot of dialing that needs to be done before you get tones of your liking. Willie here propably just picked one of the default settings, and they sure sound bad.

In an interview I watched, willie and mark said they only used there mesa boogie Mark 4 heads and no other pedals, i could be wrong, but yeah i hope not

Heh, he isn't using it right yet. I own one and it sounds awesome. He is probably, just PROBABLY using the ZNR Noise Reduction on full and using a high gain amp sim (ALIEN? DZ DRIVE? REVO-1?) with like 80% gain, scooped mids and paired with the 'MetalWRLD' pedal up in front. For god's sake, USE IT PROPERLY. I mean, personally, when I use it, I would do this to my chain:
ZNR--PedalCry--TScream--MS Crunch--DeTune--Stereo Delay--HD Reverb--Equalizer--Flanger//Delay Z FX.
I would back off the amp's gain to 40-50%, push the mids up to 70% and treble to about 60-65% also with the bass about 45-50%. The TScream gain is about 60% and the Equalizer in the classic 'V' shape, only slightly altered so that the bass is higher thn the treble and keep the mids above 1. I use the Stereo Delay for my solo delay and boost (Level to 115%) and the Z Pedal delay to do the chasing delays where the notes and the delay feedback line up to make some cool clean parts.
So seriously. If you do want to use the Zoom G5, use it the way I did. Not to boast or anything but this is really how I got my favorite sound out of my G5.

Willy no use ZooM. It is a good concept, I use BOSS, helps a lot switching tones, and effects, and OD, quickly live, and a good tool for practice.... Go WILLY!

I agree with WaRLoKWYATT, that tone sucks, in my opinion. But the pedal can do much better than that, don't judge it because of this video.

Tone is subjective...90% of people will think this demo is great, 9% will think it sucks arse and the other 1% will like it yet troll the comments saying how it sucks arse and that they're imaginary rig is so superior and that they can play way better than Will here. I think it's fine for what it is, meaning the FX processor. Nothing spectacular but definitely not trash.

Well to start with... His not i a studio, pro'lly in some storage room or something with alot of material that makes the sound kinda flat and not powerfull.. And second, the recording hardware is not close at all to the studio setup.. So in real i bet the G5 whould work nice , and specially with hes amp setup :D ...

Hmmm did Zoom put willie in a crate and ship him to an unknown place? Then forced him to sponsor there new now old G5 by gun point? Would explain the back round. Not sure what is up with some of these videos with castle back rounds (mesa boogie) and moats and shit? I keep expecting a dragon( or in this case a drug smuggler) to fly out and shit fire on the stage. Damn taco's....

TO ZOOM, why only 44.1Khz? that why it sounds terrible for metal, even those henky's metal vids sounds terrible too... make a new unit atleast 96Khz. ill buy it for $500. make a quality product!!! Zoom modelling technolgy has great possiblities but with 44.1khz, no matter you tweak it, it will be crap sounding! At $500-$600 price point you will still have a large market, and a legacy!

PS - My personal perception... idc about what others have to say about zoom...
the other guitarist in my band uses a zoom pedal...and believe me..the tone is a nightmare... we lose most competitions just coz the noise from his patches covers the entire performance...
