I'll say it again- Two guys (Roth & Hagar), who could not be more opposite to each other, but they both say the SAME thing about what led to their departures from the band. Ed was an erratic alcoholic with MAJOR emotional, and jealousy issues- He could not stand the front man getting more coverage than him. The only reason Eddie did anything with Dave was to scare Sammy. Eddie thought that if he publicly did anything with Dave that it would scare Sammy into being more of a "team player " as Eddie once put it. It's like hooking up with and ex to scare who you are dating into thinking they could lose you. It backfired spectacularly on the brothers. They never really were able to get passed it. Sammy would not be mistreated. Good for him. Bad for all of us because there will never be a reunion. It's just too late.

Time has told the truth. The Brothers treatment of Michael Anthony should tell anyone all they need to know. Sammy has continued to write, record, have hit singles, etc. What have the Brothers Van Halen done? The Gary Cherone record tanked, they finally DID end up back with Roth, but by then, the magic was gone. Roth’s husky, ballsy voice has deteriorated to the point that he can’t hold pitch, and pretty much has to talk his way through a song. Meanwhile Sammy sounds as good as he always did.

I remember that interview with the bros. , the one they are showing clips in this vid. I remember noticing how ed's face and body language took on a whole knew demeanor not seen before. You see him on the balance tour vids and interviews and then in this interview and he went from being cool middle-aged rocker to douch-nozzle. And he's had that douche nozzle demeanor ever since. Sammy once hinted at Ed started sliding in the mid-90's because he and valerie were no longer a single couple, they were parents now, and she was really leaning on him to step up and be a good father. Maybe it's a stretch to say that Ed was running away from a responsibility he was not familiar with, but who knows. He certainly did not slow his work load in 91-92 when he just had a baby. It's funny how Dave got all the blame back in 85 for breaking up the band but subsequent history has shown Ed has had more to do with the strife in the band than any other member. If you look at ed's history of any and all business associations, they all usually end pretty messy. Again, one common thread through all of them.

Jump. Hard to believe that a band with a guitarist like EVH and a lead singer like Hagar would end up as a keyboard band and misfit singers like DLR. lt was the Hagar/DLR combo that put them at the top in the same way that that Axl Rose/Slash put G&R at the top. And if you think about it, EVH did to Van Halen what Axl did to G&R..., let their own ego get in the way and tear apart the band because in both cases EVH and Axl didn't want to share the spotlight, they wanted to BE the spotlight, to the point of destroying what they had when someone else started getting as much if not more attention than they were.

Without knowing any of them, I would vote for Hagar's story...
Judging from his life, his health, his social skills and his overall career, I would say he's a trustworthy guy.
At 73, he still sounds amazing and he seems to be a stable person.
The Van Halen brothers have been boozing so much, you can't trust them.
You are either trustworthy, or you are a drunk. Sorry, you can't be both.
Alcoholism is not compatible with any kind of healthy relation.

Whether you love Van Halen, or hate their guts, they can never be accused of being boring. Whether they're at their best on stage, with mind-numbing music behind Eddy's guitar work, Dave and or Sammy's frontman presence and the skeletal framework that held it all together courtesy of Michael Anthony and Alex, or slinging mud at each other in the Press, only to kiss and make up. Only to fall out and fling more mud at each other again, and repeat as necessary. They always were entertaining. Upon their reunions with Roth, their live shows, understandably lost a step or two, but they were STILL better than 99% of the current bands that were three times younger than they were. They did it better than anyone ever did. I consider myself lucky to have grown up when I did, and having Van Halen provide the soundtrack of my generation. I love watching the reaction videos on RUclips of Eddie's guitar solos. I love reliving the moment vicariously through them , of when I first heard Eddie and was completely astonished. You'll see their jaws drop as they watch Eddie doing paranormal shit with that guitar. It's not an exaggeration, or embellishment of any kind when they say Eddie Van Halen is the Mozart of Our Generation, and he will be discussed and taught about to music theory students hundreds of years from now. Rest In Peace.... NO..Eff that: Rest In The Amazing Sound Of That Beautifully Wailing and Howling Frankenstrat!! Angels will no longer be playing harps. From now on, it's Modded Kramer Strats and/or Wolfgangs. 🎸

I have been a VH fan from the beginning and there is problems anytime public opinion is polled regarding certain matters usually conflict of opinions. From my perspective the lessons daddy Halen instilled in his sons about business in the music industry is a no brainier, it is shrewd. Roth made a fantastic contribution to the band unrivaled by way of his "personal" style. Sammy stepped in regardless of politics of the day made a tremendous contribution rivaled by none by way of his "personal" style not to effect the business model put in place by lessons learned by daddy Halen mainly to keep the performance as clean as possible for all audiences. There is no comparison between Roth and Hagar however there is a comparison in the maturity of the individuals over time to constantly improve and build upon as life goes on, that is a given unless one is in denial and prone to default human behavior. There are three things in life you can count on death, taxes and change ,some have difficulty adjusting to change. I on the other hand know that sometime we outgrow people and things of which I'm sure we are all guilty as charged at some point in our lives. I'm sure you will agree the guitar, drums and bass never changed but rather got better and unrivaled over time as these musicians aged. Roth and Hagar put there magic to work in the kitchen to combined the ingredients of an unrivaled never to be duplicated product of music that I'm sure brought about the conception and birth of many children, oh yeah. What all these guys brought to the world was a music presentation unlike no other and it began with the birth of two boys in a far away land and maybe a small touch of Masonic influence. Van Halen is the brick and mortar, Roth and Hagar completed the performance with their unique talents on stage. You cannot compare two great artists like Roth and Hagar when backed by the same musicians. It's ok to have a preference me I love it all in it's own way as presented without the politics. Nap time

When Sammy joined, Eddie changed from Standard E tuning _(EADGBE)_ to Drop-D _(DADGBE)_ the reason is because Sammy Hagar had a much wider vocal range than David Lee Roth… Sammy’s vocal range _(especially when compared to David Lee Roth’s lack thereof)_ changed the entire feel of Van Halen & was just something totally different…plus there was Mitch Malloy between Sammy Hagar & Roth’s return there was also other factors at play; Eddie switching to being the keyboard player on songs of later Van Halen songs & that started before David Lee Roth’s departure… _Jump_ is a perfect example of him being half on keyboard & half as lead guitar, but people weren’t buying tickets to see Eddie behind a keyboard while Sammy Hagar ran around with a Kramer 5150 _Super Strat_ it’s Eddie’s guitar playing which put Van Halen on the map and arguably began the entire 1980s monster guitar player metal movement; Rhoads, Dave Amato, Yngwie, Hammet, Satch, Vai and too many more to list were shaped by Eddie’s _Eruption_ shaped where rock music went; _Rock N’ Roll_ followed _Rock Around the Clock,_ then it followed _the Wrecking Crew,_ then, WoodStock happened & it followed Jimi Hendrix, followed by the 70’s Arena rock phase _(so-to-speak),_ & Van Halen 1 came out in 1978 & Eruption & Van Halen 1 shaped the following era of Rock Music until Nirvana sparked the grunge phase

I will agree that he was a much better singer, but the Roth led Van Halen sounded much heavier than the Sammy version. Sam brought a more melodic sound with him, and Eddie was much more comfortable branching out and using keyboards, and going in different directions that he couldn’t really explore with Dave. Dave was pretty limited as a singer, but it made the music sound much heavier, but it also had swing. Roths whisky & cigarettes huskiness was juxtaposed against his vaudeville meets martial artist stage antics and it just worked. So while Sammy is the better singer for sure, I tend to lean towards the Roth sound when it comes to which songs I tend to like more

Very cool hearing Beck’s comments on the matter because the brothers tried to say Dave was disrespectful to Beck by drawing attention to himself when Beck was receiving an award. Beck gets it. Dave is a rock star for a reason. He’s an attention whore unapologetically. Michael Anthony said when that guy walks into a room, good or bad,you know something is gonna happen. I have always been a Dave fan and prefer his version of the band. A lot of people think it was better with Sammy. But one thing is for sure,Sammy is a pretty cool cat. Everybody thought Dave’s ego broke up Van Halen but now we know the truth. It’s Eddie and Alex that can’t get along with anybody. Not Dave, not Sammy, not even Mikey who is the nicest guy in the world.
