The difference here is.. I would believe Jimmy's story.
He always goes into this thin reedy exhausted out-of-breath sounding voice whenever he's flat-out lying about something. It's a sort of incredulous _can you believe this??_ sort of voice. It's just one of his many hundreds of existentially bizarre "quirks."
It's also sort of _sad_ in a way. It's SO SO SO obvious that deep down, he just wants to be _liked._ But...the dilemma is...he has zero clue how to become the sort of person that people genuinely like and respect. And so, he has a perpetual chip on his shoulder that manifests itself in long exasperated rants that detail his overwhelming insecurity and unhappiness.
On a certain level...I feel genuinely sorry for him. I mean, stop and think about it....imagine if you actually were Trump himself. Imagine you were trapped inside his body, his brain, his mind. Imagine if you had his life and _everything_ that comes with it. I can't think of a much worse fate. I'm truly grateful I'm nothing like him. I say that with absolute sincerity.
But.....the thing I truly 100% do *not* understand is why people who are FAR more intelligent, FAR more ethical, FAR more informed and FAR more honest than him......support him. I'm thinking of several people I know very personally. I simply cannot understand why anyone would support a guy who is clearly suffering DEEPLY with a litany of pathological psychological issues. Every Trump supporter I know is FAR better than him in every single way imaginable. I'm sure there are plenty of Trump supporters who are intellectually and ethically on the same incredibly low level as Trump....but it's the ones who are FAR better than him that utterly baffle me. Why support a man who is the absolute _antithesis_ of everything you are?
