WAP 7 Electric Locomotive

- The WAP-7 3-phase AC Electric locomotive was born out of a Transfer of Technology agreement signed in 1993 between the Indian Railways and ABB. As per the agreement 30 units of the WAP-5 and WAG-9 classes were delivered by ABB in Completely Knocked Down/Semi-Knocked Down condition between October 1995 and March 1997. The WAP-5, with its lightweight high-speed design, had limitations in hauling heavy 24-26 car mail express trains. Thus, the need for a heavier, more powerful design was felt. This led to an in-house attempt to create a passenger variant of the WAG-9 class freight locomotive. Several modifications were made, including a change of gear ratios from 77:15 to 72:20 and in the control software. The result was the WAP-7 locomotive capable of producing more than 6000 horsepower and a top speed of 140 kph. A high-speed variant of the WAP-7, with the suffix HS, has been subjected to extensive trials and found fit for 160 kph services.
Also in the works is a massive power upgrade. A 9,000 horsepower variant of the WAP-7 is under development and is expected to be out for trials soon. Авто/Мото
WAG 9 and WAP 7 are the most beautiful and second most beautiful electric locos respectively, according to me...
WDG 3A Golden Rock is my favourite diesel loco..
Really, WAP7 is the best performing passenger traffic locomotive made for IR so far, yet better locomotives are yet to come in future, but P7 will always be remembered
Yes indeed... but future belongs to multiple unit trainsets not locomotives. WAP-7 could be the last of passenger locos...
@@TheTrainStory It is by Far the best and Most recognisable One
After Its introduction they have only upgrade WAP - 7
But ofcourse the future is of EMUs
With Now news of 10 Train 18 to be in service Since 2022 August
Maybe some of the Express Running might be no longer Be in use
But it can't happen until or unless the Train 18 has a Lower Fare compartment
But I actually Don't know if Fare the express and Train 18 will differ by a large margin :V
But great video
With Train 20 Cornered by Political or External Corruption and some Reason like lack of technology
All we can see is Designs Based on RRTS Rigs or Train 18 .
But will be Better
But i Believe WAP - 7 is that Much efficient That they aren't going to develop another Generation Because it has proven itself
All they need Minor Changes to Make WAP -7 Complete all the needs
My English bad
@@kadlifal in the longer term when trainsets become more common... fares will come down. Also with both freight corridors opening soon... the time has come for fast trainsets. Whether that will be Train-18 or imported trainsets... time will tell

Who know if they start making
Some Alstom's Trainset in india
In the factory setup to make the WAG 12 but after all the 800 units are made but wouldn't that be the time for the introduction of Full Service DFC
So Who knows
But it will be Good
:)
Fun fact
India Shifted it 38% electrical Power supply from Renewalable and safe source ( Plan were implemented due to i believe that Paris Treaty on climate change
India's Target was 40% by 2030😂
And its already 38%
While The Leaders and developed nations were probably thinking that a developing country specially country like india may not even achieve it till 2030 :)
Good Smack to the face
for me the real game change changer was WAP 4.. the most successful in the WAP series before WAP 7 .. it had a much sleeker nose then WAP 7 and can still compete with WAP 7 work loads effortlessly. It had it's shortcomings with new tech upgrade needed, hence the birth of WAP 7..
WAP 7 is a beast. It housed Royapuram, Erode, Arakonam shead in our southern railway
Even KJP loco shed KJP = Krishnrajpuram loco shed Bangalore
I really like how the WAP series electrics have continued to have such modern traction equipment while still maintaining the classic front end design, great explanation and motion graphics as always!
Wap7 is my favourite locomotive
WAG-7 WAG-4 LOCOMOTIVE AMAZING 👍
Good video 👍
WAP7 is my favorite passenger locomotive. 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰
😊
Please do more videos like this. You are the best when it comes to explaining about railways.
Do videos more frequently.
Thank you Bro for the kind words 😊
Very informative and crisp video, thanks for sharing. WAG9, WAG10, WAG11, WAP5 & WAP7 are the most aesthetically appealing locomotives operating on Indian Railways as of date. I hope the IR $3B contract to Siemens for 1200 9000Hp locomotives turns out aesthetically appealing locomotives.
Thanks friend
@@TheTrainStory Where would the 9000 HP variants be used ? Not the High speed (>140kmph) service runs I reckon? Would it mean even longer trains (28-32 car lengths) ?
@@kanakTheGold I think IR is now moving towards trainsets…I m not sure if IR will go ahead now with a 9000 hp passenger loco
U have came up with the excellent Video which Indian Railways Makes as Proud , Please do more videos as this , we wish u all the best .

Thanks for making such quality videos.
Thank you 😊
WAP7 , WAP5 , WAP 4 , WAG 9 and WAG 12 are the best locos of IR 👍
Wdp4 and wdm (all versions) and Mumbai local train would like to know ur location
You forgot ALCO and WDP
@@TroyPereira1RO I hate diesel locos. Their operation is costlier than e locos

Excellent information about WAP-7.
Thanks for the information, it's well presented, easy to understand

I like your videos I am such a mad train fan 🙂
Bro can you please tell me that why the maximum locomotives uses its second pentograph , but not the first one??
Excellent videos 👍
What is the weight of wap 7 locomotive?
Keep rocking bro
Excellent video and soothing music 👍

WDP 4 IS MONSTER
I came to know all these types of loco after playing Train Simulator 2022 game. My favourite loco WAP-7

Wonderful!!👍👌

Wap 7 loco is best and speed all super fast trains use wap 7
Royapuram loco wag 7

Yes indeed 😊
A video very well made.👍👍

Very Nice wap7
Some superfast express trains use wag9 ! With 100kmph top speed. Is it appropriate to do so.??
Nice quality videos
Thank you
Very good video 👍
Thanks 😊
Nice vedio bro. I really learend information from this vedio
And put vedio working of chennai metro rail
The background music is boring but video is informative. I still remember these when I was a teenage boy and the earlier version had an ABB painted on the shell.Asea Brown Boweri❤This is one of my favourite locos but the way they’re kept is dirty and Indian railways maintenance sucks!
Great info!!!! Please make a video on india's most succesful loco and highest produced loco (WDM2 loco) the workhorse and hero of indian railways
Will be putting it up (WDM2) shortly 😊
There has been bogie modifications after rajdhani derailment. You should include that also. Anyways nice video.
Thank you for this useful information... will keep in mind for future videos
You explained nicely and your voice is so nice
Thanks Swaraj
awesome great for information bro

@@TheTrainStory welcome bro
Indian Railway ❤️
When did wap5 225kmph variant come out and what is the speed potential of initial 5400hp variant which was imported in 1995 ??
Didn't listened about 9000hp variant anywhere!
Maybe planning to change WAG9HH to WAP7 HH!
The one thing that missing in WAP-5/7 loco motives is proper ventilation. These locomotive are designed for European standard but here in india hot place.
Indian Railways is doing good by making air-conditioning cab of new loco motives but what about locomotives launched before.
If the temperature outside is 45 it feels 55 inside cab.hope you can understand.
If Indian Railways wanted they could have istalled cab air-conditioning on top of the roof
My Dream Loco Pilot 😘😘😘😘🚊🚊🚊🚊😍😍😍😍
More in depth technology aspects need to be covered along with manufacturing aspects. Especially the evolution and indignation . Wonder why we could not capitalize from W4 we have after all BHEL and HEC
Nice
Thanks
Nice video! When was this locomotive launched first?
Whatever is the speed it's bound to be delayed at destination station waiting for platforms sometimes for hours really hopeless journey if you travel by trains to city
Also unfenced tracks, level crossings (sometimes unmanned), slow moving local and freight trains
Bring a bucket and a mop for this WAP
Are wap 8 and wap 12b locomotive truly existing?
To my knowledge there are no WAP 8 or 12. With the introduction of Trainsets (Train-18), there is little possibility of newer WAP series locomotives… hope this answers your query
What r difference in p5 and p7
When wap 5 locomotive top speed 225 kmph is limited to 160kmph , what is the meaning full use of that extra 65 kmph ?
WAP5 was designed for future topspeeds of 200 kmph, particularly on the Delhi Mumbai route. But the track upgradation has been indefinitely delayed…
Pls make a vedio on control unit working in locomotive
Is there any possibilities to make a Passenger version of wag 12b
With the Govt placing emphasis on Trainsets (Train 18), there is no requirement of passenger versions of high powered locomotives such as the WAG 12. Lower power-rated but lighter train sets can provide services in the 160-200 Kmph range
@@TheTrainStory yeah I understood. Multiple units has several advantages like quick acceleration and braking, consistent speed etc. ICF Chennai wants to produce more train 18 varients for the future
Make a video on WDM4 and WAM4 locomotive of old days.
I have briefly covered the WDM4 in this video (ruclips.net/video/P__2DDlPW40/видео.html) on EMD locomotives (WDP4, WDG4) in India.
Indian Railways should at least run at a speed of 200 KM per hour.
The rolling stock is capable but track needs upgradation for speeds of 200 kmph
You said it supplied hotel load and eliminates the need for HOG but the train you showed had the HOG! What’s going on?
At the time of filming the IR had just started introducing LHB SLR cats without diesel generators. Initially each LHB rake was to have one SLR car and one EoG (as standby) at the other end. In my video a EoG car fitted to the locomotive HoG is shown because unfortunately, I do not have footage of a LHB SLR car
@@TheTrainStory ok thanks. Good video.

Please make a video on WDP-4D
Will keep your request on the agenda...
Who provided the tech for WAP 1 and WAP 4 locos? Is it ABB or Gen Electric?
WAP-1 traction motors are from Alstom and those of the WAP-4 are from Hitachi. Other companies like Siemens have provided important control equipment. These locomotives are built in India but technology has been sourced from various vendors...
@@TheTrainStory Great !
Wap 1, wap 4 and all dc traction motor electric locos are modified version of wag 1 which was designed by English electric locomotive company in 1950
bro upload video weekly
Can this particular locomotive can run upto 200 kmph.
WAP-7 HS is capable of 180 kmph.... the WAP-5 with suitable gear ratios and control software could go up to 220 kmph
Why do we always need foreign vendors to upgrade our systems. Are we not capable to design, develop and manufacture indigenously? Then want did we learn from our so many years of operations of the Railways.
WAP7 is not run in South India.u can see them hauling passenger trains village to village In The north but rarely seen in Super Fast trains in the South.

Pakistan should also buy these rail engines from India if India is interested
EOG sound may be noisy, but its awesome
Wap 7 should be upgraded to max speed of 200 kph.
The WAP7 HS has been tested at 180 Kmph. With trainsets set to takeover, the 200 kmph maybe tried with trainsets
