  • The first WAP-4 #22201 locomotive rolled out from the factory on 25 April 1994. In the next 20 years 776 examples were built at the Chitaranjan Locomotive Works. The WAP-4 was conceived to replace the WAP-1 locomotive which was found lacking in power as trains became longer and heavier.
    The WAP-4 is 5000 HP locomotive that can haul a 24-car train at a sustained 140 Kmph for long periods. Here I a present a biography of this iconic locomotive.

    My Dad is A special Loco pilot👨‍✈️️ From Erode TN. Erode is one of the important electric Loco shed in India most of the WAP -4 locos services are doing hear you can see Erode WAP -4 anywhere india. I traveled in this Loco with my dad. I am damn sure This loco is Real Hunk pulling 24 coaches at crushing 110 kmph. I enjoyed lot while traveling in this loco. WAP-4 is the Aggressive and muscular looking Loco then WAP-7 even though it's most powerful WAP-4 Rocks.

    I had travelled on trains in my childhood like Poorva express, Goa express, Karnataka express, Golden temple mail, New Delhi-Sealdah Duronto express, Asansol-Howrah Agnibina express trains, hauled by either by WAP1 or WAP4. I always enjoyed my train rides hauled by these two locomotives, as a result of which I have my own memories with them. I hope that IR preserves WAP1 and WAP4 locomotives when they're reitred.
    But these days, i came across pictures and videos in social media, where WAP4, WAP5, WAP7 are hauling freight trains. Before COVID 19 lockdown, it was a rare scene but today it has become regular scene.

    • @TheTrainStory
      @TheTrainStory  3 года назад +1

      I suppose with number of passenger trains reduced ( due to Covid), the passenger locos lying idle may have been pressed into hauling freight locos. I have seen these videos too.

    Nice video, Hitachi traction motor used in WAG7, WCAM3 and WCAG1 Loco all these loco rated same power out put however presence of this loco feel more macho than three phases siblings however can IR used modern BDC motor in this loco?

    • @TheTrainStory
      @TheTrainStory  3 года назад

      Yes the WAP4 has a certain character and presence.
      It is very unlikely that the IR will make any more updates on the WAP4. There focus will be on the newer tech locos now being built..

    WAP-4 is WAP-4 no one able to take place of this most successful locomotive because it is our king of India which started to provide beautiful service from 1995 to still upto now.Indian railways not able to understand how big mistake they already done by stop production of WAP-4 at 2015 and shift to WAP-7 or WAP-5.WAP-7 and WAP-5 nothing infront of WAP-4.King is king WAP-4 is the god father of WAP-7 and WAP-5 ,WAP-7 never able to touch the level of WAP-4 in comparison of Services,I hate WAP-7 and WAP-5,my dream my heart and my favorite locomotive is only and only WAP-4❤️❤️❤️. It stay in my heart forever still upto my death.Even before my every super fast express or any train journey my wish is my train have to get WAP-4 for hauling,if I see my train not get WAP-4 that time I become upset for my whole journey,I want to see only and only WAP-4 haul my train then I enjoy my journey with feel of real speed and perfect hauling.No one can able to take place of WAP-4 it is great and Excellent locomotive.

    When wap 4 has top speed of 160 kmph , what is the real use of wap 7 which can has just top speed of 140 kmph ??

    • @TheTrainStory
      @TheTrainStory  Год назад

      To best of my knowledge, the WAP 4 was tested at a top speed of 169 kmph. It’s is rated for a service MPS of 140 kmph.
      The reason for the replacement of the WAP 4 with the WAP 7 was because the latter has a more modern 3-phase AC-AC traction

    In my opinion.
    WAP 4 locomotive should be modified and replace their DC motors to AC.
    Not shutdown productions. It is very successful locomotive.

    • @TheTrainStory
      @TheTrainStory  3 года назад +1

      Building several classes of locomotive is not an efficient use of resources. As the WAP-7 can do all the functions of a WAP-4, it would be more efficient to concentrate resources on this class. The WAP5 and WAG9 have different roles (compared to WAP7) so they will be built alongside the WAP7. Unfortunately the WAP4 (now obsolete) had the same role as WAP7.
