It never gets old hearing the joy in your voice and laughter while shooting. Thanks for all you do.
If you were to shoot all your steel targets suppressed and sample the sound they each make, you could then work out the "note" of each of them, and then work out the correct order in which to shoot them to allow you to play a tune on them all. Almost like Hickoks symphony in 7.62 in the key of A#R for example. Mike Oldfield released Tubular bells many years ago, you could do similar with targets. You could be the next big thing Hickok of course you'd have to sign with A&R records, hehehe. Or even make a special appearance on the Gong Show.
micky mondo this is a great comment. Thank you for being creative. No joke, was thinking the same thing. I totally thought you would have a zillion likes on this. I’m with you, I think we need a Carol of the bells AR edition. Well, maybe the glock 19 as that is Hickok signature pistol.

i was thinking the same thing. the rifle was quieter than the hammer.
I was thinking that maybe he was getting a new roof or something!! Lmao
I was thinking of Frank Cross (Bill Murray) in Scrooged.
He has neighbors that shoot as well. He mentioned it in a video (cant recall the exact one out of his 1000+upload list) and that it's common for the neighbors to join in once they hear him popping off.
Kinda rude knowing he's a RUclips guy and just needs 25 minutes max to film an unedited video. But hey, I'm sure they have an agreement and get along just fine!

Was called a "silencer" when first invented back at turn of the century... Because the man that invented it also created "silencers" for engines which we now call mufflers. Names just change with the times Hickok, so no worries, I don't think any of us are too concerned ;)
Johan Slammeat I'm going to start calling my silencer a muffler, just to add a third faction to the great war.

ScotticusZ What you said, Hiram Maxim patented it as a 'silencer', thus the name.
I heard through the grapevine that there is a bill that would remove suppressor off of the nfa list so one could buy them over the counter. I think the bill was called the hearing protection act.
The Q Man what did he do there?

I love 300 blk, I use it regularly on groundhogs. My uncle built one around the time this video was made, and I've had a fascination with it since.
Considering building a 16” 300 blackout and suppressing it using subs. I hear a lot of people saying not to because they will be supersonic even using subs because the 16” barrel speeds it up past super but the rifle in the video sounded absolutely perfect. Any input is appreciated!
I don’t know for sure, but I suspect that factory subsonic ammo is made to be subsonic in 16” barrels. I’ve seen some velocities in shorter barrels, and they are really slow, like 900 fps in some cases. Of course, if you handload you can dial them in to whatever you want.
Hornaday 300 208 grain ammo is pretty good. Just expensive. Pretty quiet.
Subsonic 300 Blackout is designed to be fired from an SBR suppressed at CQB. I initially thought about getting a PSA 16" barrel with the pistol length gas system. But I think a shorter barrel of 10.5" or 11.5" max would be more beneficial with a Can under CQB to maintain close quarters maneuverability and less interference. If you are simply getting one for home defense, I would stick with a 12 gauge shotgun with a red dot mounted on it.
To me like having to get a permit to run a muffler on your car
Scott wade In a way - but mufflers are for emissions control I believe? I get the concept though.
@@xenotype3258 actually catalytic converters are for emissions. The mufflers were invented at the same time as silencers and by the same guy..
"American inventor Hiram Percy Maxim, son of Maxim gun inventor Hiram Stevens Maximand co-founder of the American Radio Relay League, is usually credited with inventing and selling the first commercially successful silencer around 1902, receiving a patent for it on March 30, 1909.[2][3][4] Maxim gave his device the popularly trademarked name "Maxim Silencer",[5] and they were regularly advertised in sporting goods magazines.[6]The muffler for internal combustion engineswas developed in parallel with the firearm silencer by Maxim in the early 20th century, using many of the same techniques to provide quieter-running engines, and in many English-speaking countries automobile mufflers are called silencers." - wikipedia

Hickok, he is the conductor at his own symphony of steel.
He's a maestro of metallic melodies...
Ft/lbs of energy on target depends almost entirely on size(mass) and speed, so yes, it is necessarily size and speed.
300blk will only carry more energy at short distances, but it can do so quietly which is why it's attractive.
Thanks for the awesome videos hickok45. Your gun reviews are very well done and I appreciate that you take the time to do them.

love how he misses the pin yet nails the soda behind it. Hickok does not miss. he only hits other targets
I GOT THIS! In a word: versatility. Supersonic, it has about the same external and terminal ballistics as 7.62x39, from what I hear. Subsonic is about a .45 ACP, and it's really quiet. All it takes to switch from a 5.56x45 is a barrel change (an upper change is faster, though). .300 BLK can fit in any AR magazine, too.
Someone brakes into Hickoks house: "These guys just wanna die a dramatic death don't they?"

OMG that is so effing cool!
It'll probably never happen, but the government really should get rid of the dumb laws on supressors and short barreled rifles. A supressor only makes shooting more fun and safer for preserving hearing health. SBR's are just lighter and easier to maneuver indoors for home defense.
Supressors and SBRs don't make guns easier to commit crimes with, which I think was the argument for the laws.
Suppressors are really easy to get in Texas. Where allowed to hunt with them..
dabNtx Well yeah if you want to spend another $200 on top of the cost of the supressor and then wait 6 months to a year for the stamp.

The sounds of the bullet impacts are hilarious! Great Video! Thanks! This ammo is cheap to buy and load now in 2019.
Cheap is relative... It still cost $0.48-$.50 a round. I wish I had the means to reload but it is not a cheap weapon to own.
@@ParrishT3 indeed it's my first rifle just bought last month. cheapest I can find is 1. 00 a round.
Excellent points. A .223 @1000fps would still be lethal, but not very effective or practical, especially if it isn't enough of an explosion to cycle the gun (which is a requirement for gas-operated guns like the AR).

Ohh thats nice, the subsonic really makes the difference
It sure does man. I really do think they should make this rifle a service weapon. It would do such good.
ShaHLinNinja- Why? .223 is just fine.
EpicXXProductions
300 blackout is only better with subsonic loads. If you compare them a 300 blackout is about $1.00 a round while a .223 can be about $.40.
MrWalkwaySc2 I pay 26 cents each for .223. That's not my concern though, I just don't understand why someone would want to replace .223 with 300 aac. .223 is known by its accuracy, recoil, carry weight, trajectory and wound characteristics to be the best battle ammo for close to mid range combat. I don't see how subsonic ammo would do you any good in the military either, all that's doing is killing your range, accuracy, and bullet energy.
EpicXXProductions
I agree, if it were better the military would've been using it by now.
I have a AAC 300blk out rem 700 rifle and an AR upper, love the round and everything its about. I have personally dealt with Mike Mers from AAC and cant say enough about him, just good people doing their best,a stand up bunch.... Great video as usual

Weird question for you, I know your a taller man and a fine shot. I enjoy your videos and love your contribution to the gun life. I'm 7 foot 1 and really want a lever action in 357 magnum. Do you have any recommendations as to which model might provide me with the most natural/enjoyable experience? Shooting is an activity that truly love and gives me an opportunity to not be interrupted while doing.
LIke me, you are accustomed to adapting to the size of things. I think you'd do fine with any full size lever gun; you just need a good butt pad extender. The biggest problem is getting more length on the stock so that your face and eye is better positioned in relationship to the sights. With a slip-on stock extension, you'd probably enjoy about any of the Winchesters or Marlins, or clones of them. Hard to beat a Winchester Model 73 or 86. A Marlin Model 94 is great, too, but they can be smallish. Even the classic Model 92 is one you'd probably like if you got it in full length barrel.
Crimes with suppressors are not non-existent....just nobody heard the shot and so nobody knows. :-D

I´m not going to get political. It was just a joke.
+Zatracenec Fun fact, they are required in certain circumstances in Norway! We are as strict as the strictest American states but silencers are totally not regulated and for good reasons(no hearing damage).
US has much better over all gun laws but on silences they are oddly idiotic.
And before somebody asks; Yes we have AR's in Norway too.
+Nico By Sound suppressors became illegal/restricted during the Great depression. The government was afraid poachers would use it to illegally over hunt.
Those carpenters were making more noisy than he was.
"Its like throwing rocks" pretty much sums up why I feel guns are fun.
This man right here is a dangerous man...
Pretty much the most serious crime committed with a suppressor is poaching, and many countries allows suppressors anyway without much poaching going on.
***** Same here did you know in Europe it is considered rude not to use a suppressor, one of the few things they get right when it comes to guns.
Tqtrpiypuu I was aware of that, I really wish we'd change the laws here and get the cost of them down. My neighbors would sure appreciate it if I could afford suppress my guns... But luckily for me I have great neighbors, and I can still shoot loud all I want, I just let them pop off a couple every now and then. I also hate having to wear hearing protection while I shoot, it's uncomfortable, but I deal with it because I'd like to keep my nice acute hearing into old age. Maybe someday I will have the extra cash to get a suppressor on my AK... But they're so expensive (especially for what is essentially a tube with baffles in it, I mean come on...) I'd probably just buy another gun instead, hahaha.

I always remember when i watch movies that when there was silencers on guns you could hardly hear anything thing except a slight thud or click. In these guns there is still a fair loud sound.
is the 300 blackout similar to the .45 acp in that it is subsonic by nature? or do you have to buy subsonic specific 300 blackout
You have to buy subsonic. Regular 300 AAC is 2000+ fps and not subsonic thus quite a bit louder when shot through a suppressed rifle.
I think this is quieter than 5.56 suppressed
3:08 Play Jingle Bells!
Thank you hickok45 for your videos and your views on suppressors! Keep it up!
For anyone wondering, you can easily convert any AR15 to shoot .300 AAC....all you do is get a new barrel. As you saw the Blackout fits in standard AR mags, because I believe it's basically a .223/5.56 casing with a .308 bullet. As far as function, I think it's a perfect hybrid of an AR platform with AK knockdown/penetration.
And i've heard that the .300 AAC is REALLY PICKY ABOUT MAGS, i heard one guy say p-mags don't work at all for him...but it's not the magazine completely, it's the whole cartridge too.
Reloading .300 would be super cheap (that's "regular" supersonic)...not sure if subsonic would be as easy as i think, but i would just buy them. Lucky I live in a state where I can legally own a suppressor..

@hickok45 I love how you have so many videos of firearms and various ammo combinations. You have inspired me to start making my own. Stay safe ol friend!
love that 'thud' sound the bullet makes when it contacts
Well, someone should be very stupid to commit crime with a gun that they legally own. Every gun leaves a specific mark on a bullet by firing pin or from barrel riffling or any other gun internal so its not that hard to track down a gun owner if you find a bullet casing lying somewhere on the crime scene. In my country there are about 58 guns per 100 adults that can legally own a gun (not convicted for any felony that is) and yet they make less that 1% of gun related crimes a year.
Silly goose, the only way one might know if a case or bullet was fired from a specific weapon by its 'fingerprints' would require a direct comparison between said recovered case and one fired by the specific weapon. This is much like having a person's fingerprints on file to compare against ones found in a crimescene. If one's fingerprints are not recorded, one has nothing to fear so far as being identified by fingerprint. Yes?
Friedrich Faudenberg Well yes you are right, bullet case can't be used to discover the guy who shot but its often used as a proof when police tracks down possible suspects. Anyway for various reasons other than that no self-respecting criminal would carry its own gun to a crimescene, just in case he drops it. :)
kara88bg I was unaware that there was such a thing as a "self-respecting criminal." If there were anything respectable about him, he wouldn't be a criminal. xD
Peter Fitzsimmons You don't have to be respectable to respect yourself. Self-respecting meaning a person who merits a particular role or name.
Someones been watching too much CSI...
