*GEO Calcium Reactor Setup + Kamoer & Carbon Doser*

  • Hello Reefers....
    Today I set up the new GEO CR618 CaRx with secondary chamber. I'm running it with the Carbon Doser and Kamoer. I also have the Neptune Apex online for pH control (controversial topic). It wasn't too difficult to setup, because I've been looking at them for years, but the thought of going to a welding shop to fill CO2 cylinders was never appealing to me. However, over the years I've noticed increased stability with every tweak I've implemented with my systems. From doing smaller more frequent water changes, more flow, more light, dosing 150x a day, Kalkwasser, CO2 scrubber, and pulling outside air into the skimmer. Each tweak I made resulted in better growth and it all had to do with stability. This made me really consider Calcium Reactors. At first I thought how much more stable can they really be? I was already dosing 150x a day. After I calculated it...the truth is...they are much more stable. Anybody can be successful dosing 2-part, but It will take a little longer to grow large colonies. In the beginning I always thought that since I wasn't a wholesaler or LFS (who needed to make money for overhead or as a source of income) speed didn't matter to me. I knew the corals would grow, but it would just take a little longer. At this point, I'm not getting any younger and I want to grow Acropora the fastest way possible with the least amount of fluctuations. This is why I brought the reactor online. I will update you guys with the progress. Stay tuned for future updates about the progress of the CaRx and the differences I observe after switching from 2-part. Also, how long it will take to stabilize to where I'll see increased growth.

    Nice video. I started with Calcium reactor last year. Got a Reef Octopus reactor instead of Geo. It has its pluses and minuses. I did get all the other equipment you got as well so I know your wallet is hurting. I can tell you it is money well spent. I been in the hobby 20 years now and can say once you have spent the money and have this set it is by far the easiest supplement solution. I have literally had to touch this 2 times in a year just for maintenance and has to adjust the dosage a few times based on demand changes that is all. The carbon dose and Kamoer pump makes this so easy.

    Thank you for the tip at 9:59... I could not recall for the life of me how you were supposed to do this safely so you don't damage the doser. You have to loosen anti-clockwise fully open, then turn on the CO2, then dial it in clockwise slowly. Could not find a manual online and I lost mine but I recall it saying you can void your warranty if you don't do this process in that order.
    You rock! and your video is excellent!

    Nice video! Quick question, is it just regular 1/4" RODI tubing from the CO2 canister/carbon doser to the calcium reactor?

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  3 года назад

      It wasn't regular RO, but I believe it was close to 1/4" so I think RO would work.

  • @Jathan334
    @Jathan334 4 года назад +1

    What fitting do you use to go from your Kamoer to RODI hose ? ...I would love to run as much RO hose as I possibly can due to me being able to get it in colors and have that nice uniform look

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  4 года назад

      @Jon Haggins it’s just a simple 1/4” straight union. You can get them at Lowe’s by the piping and water/tubing fittings.

    Hey great video. I have older style one just before this newer one came out. So has it turned into a bubble reactor yet ? I could never get mine to stop creating a ton of bubbles and i had same exact set up with carbon doser and kamoer pump . Just wondering.

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  4 года назад +1

      @Rick B so far a lot of bubbles. I just set it up though, so I can’t say what it will be like in a week.

    • @rickb7242
      @rickb7242 4 года назад +1

      Hopefully you can get it tuned in and figured out. I ran mine for 6 months and ended up having my sicce pump impeller break down from air lock pump not being able to circulate water. If you figure it out definitely let me know. I took mine offline and started 2part again .

    I’m new in the hobby and I’m planing on buying a calcium reactor . Do you guys push water into the reactor or pull water from the reactor ?

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  3 года назад +2

      @tomas dx most of us prefer to pull. Pushing can pressurize the reactor and major problems can occur. Pulling is a lot safer. Hope this helps. 👍🏼

    Hello.. for a calcium reacotor, which pump do you recommend, the kamoer x1 pro T or the versa? It's my country, there are only those two.
    thank you

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  9 месяцев назад

      Kamoer works better for me, but the Versa can also get it done. I prefer to the Kamoer, because I think it’s better for the job. It’s always been an excellent pump for me.

    My alk is 10.7 cal is 526 using cal reactor not sure what to do I only use cal reactor I don’t dos not sure what to do to make the alk and cal perfect range

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  4 года назад

      @Arman Dallakyan You can turn the reactor off and let the numbers fall or let your effluent dKH drop by decreasing your second per bubble or decrease your flow rate. You can also do some water changes with a salt that has the parameters you target. This will bring the numbers down as well. Then make sure you adjust the Reactor to maintain these levels or If you can’t fine tune your reactor, you may need to set it lower and dose a little on top of the reactor. Hope this helps. :-)

    What is the water volume of your system? Very helpful thanks.

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  3 года назад

      Tank is 75/G. Sump has about 15-20 in it, but excluding all the rock...I’d say total volume is around 70/G maybe.

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  4 года назад +2

      I already have one on hand! 😉 I’m switching to the Versa or at least gonna have it as a backup. I had it in my cart 🛒 twice yesterday and didn’t pull the trigger. 🤷‍♂️ Soon though. I got the Dow Corning on Amazon with prime shipping. It’s Molykote 111 (1/4 Oz.) $7.12 shipped. www.amazon.com/Dow-Corning-Molykote-Oring-Lubricant/dp/B075Y5DCY9?ref_=ast_bbp_dp

      Reefahholic thanks bud!. My system looses suction occasionally. I suspect it’s the O ring.

    • @Reefahholic
      @Reefahholic  4 года назад +1

      @Jeff’s Reef Tank that could very well be your problem. Lube it up when you top off the media. You can also use this for your RO/DI O-rings. This was what I used it for before the reactor.
