    My frequency is just as often as I can get a video out without losing my mind, lol. I try for 20 a year, so every 2-3 weeks is my goal, but while working a full time job and having a family, there’s only so much I can do.
    But, it’s a good reminder to make upload choices proactively and not just reactively. Thanks man.

    This was such a timely topic and video for me to see. Really appreciate you sharing your ideas here. It’s easy to get caught in the idea that everything you post has to be a masterpiece to be extremely proud of. When in fact you should just ask yourself if whatever you want to publish has some form of value and is a story worth sharing. Regardless of the form it takes. I think I just broke loose from the shackles of perfectionism. Thanks for the help!!

      It will defiantly have an effect, but is forcing more content at the expense of quality whether in production or content value be worth it. If a creator has the time, energy, and material to produce more I feel like they would naturally create more. Telling a creator to force more content for the algo isnt always the best advice.

      In terms of both raw views and subscribers, I tried this experiment: I did a daily video of roughly the same standard quality and length as my usual videos for a month. The next month, I did a longer, very polished video with a highly refined idea. Over the next three months, the single highly polished video did double the subscribers and about three times the views of every of the daily videos combined. I think one thing to keep in mind is the shorts audience is very different from the long form audience. Shorts viewers are younger, more transient in their tastes but also more likely to subscribe to a million things. I think the sweet spot is posting as often as you are able to make a high quality video. Easier said than done, but just flooding your channel with content for its own sake will probably hurt you long term because RUclips is always fiddling with its algorithm and I wouldn't want a bunch of mediocre performing videos on mine whenever that happens....

    I've been thinking about this a lot lately--I've been happily doing once a week for awhile but my first ever video blow-up happened seemingly out of nowhere, 2 weeks after I had posted it... something I noted though was that week I had posted TWO videos. The extra video I did actually had flopped.. but it feels connected to this sudden increased push in browse traffic and I'm hoping to experiment again soon once I can get a couple extra videos filmed. @@PETERFRITZPHOTO Fair enough, However I have two further thoughts, 1.) pushing out more videos usually means you are pushing lower quality and / or forcing the content (quality could be content or production). 2.) At the same time I also feel like its a bit of common sense, its like saying, "If you only go to work one day a week, you will make less money than if you go three times a week". Nothing wrong with the creator posting this, I'm just giving my two cents.

    • @PETERFRITZPHOTO

    I think I have made another important observation. RUclips blesses the channel with more Impressions in browse based more on the actual uploading, more so than the release time of a scheduled video coming out. I just went through a period where I hammered out 3 weeks of material in one week, got everything all scheduled. The channel looked like it was really taking off during that time when I uploaded 6 videos. Now I entered into a phase where I had 3 weeks that I used the time to work on major projects, not making videos. (I took the suspension off my RV and upgraded it, yes that became a video.) During those 3 weeks my channel begin to look like it was dying. Views and impressions gradually dropping down lower than before I uploaded 6 videos. I've concluded that rather than upload my work as soon as it's ready, I need to schedule that task and space it out. I'm also noticing some gracious increase in impressions when making community posts as well. I would love it if others would be willing to play around with this and let me know if they observe the same kind of behavior.

    This makes excellent sense, it’s the classic Hero/Hub/Hygiene strategy. My own experience is different though - when I’ve tried to implement consistency this way, an initial video does well and then the subsequent ones perform worse and worse each week until they die within hours of uploading, and the evergreens die with them. The only way I’ve found to restart growth is to take a break, which is no way to make progress.

    Great content. You do this style very well. Sometimes we can see 10 videos by a creator and never feel like we know anything about them, then we get a video like this and it feels like we're just taking a walk together and chatting.
    In my experience, I created a walk through a Shinto Shrine in Tokyo by accident. It was supposed to be part of a high production (at the time) video, but ended up being its own video, and it did well. I was just riffing off of things that were going on in Tokyo at the time, as well as things around me that day.
    I've done a few "walk with me" videos so I'd have something to upload while working on a bigger project. I agree that uploading frequency really keeps your channel at the top of browse and suggested. As a newbie creator, I can't rely on goodwill, releasing a video once a month and expecting it to be a banger. Also, creating more videos helps new creators like me refine editing, narrating, and other skills.
    I'll have to admit, though, the anxiety of seeing a video get 1K views right out the gate, only to get no views after that, makes me feel like I have to keep making videos or I'll just disappear altogether.
    Please keep making great content. It really makes creators like me feel that we're not alone.

    I’ve been exploring much of the same things that you’re speaking of. I have a lot of content that is still driven by search, but I do notice now that now that I am posting more shorts than it is bringing in more subscribers. Keeping the shorts topical and connected to the main theme of my channel definitely helps. I’m also experimenting with “lower input“ videos such as this one we are watching, however their overall impact, I think, will be less than my more mainstream videos. I can’t see them having the same staying power or “Evergreen” status of some of my videos that get watched over and over and over.

    Yes to this type of video: conversation on a topic as well as the other 2 tiers. And BTW, I just watched the "thumbnail" video and that helped me rethink how I plan a "story".
    I have been a sporadic creator and also have not settled on my channel focus. I have been posting slightly more frequently in the last 2 months and seeing a bit of uptick in views but not sure it has to do with anything I am doing on my tiny channel. I am also a fairly new editor, recently "retired" from 38 years as a self employed software developer so overall spending more time thinking about what I want to do: topics, focus, fun or profit ... ideally, I'd like to make enough profit to fund my camera/tech purchases/art supply purchases as well as stay active mind and body!

The RUclips algorithm cares about advertisers only. So whatever advertisers want to plaster their ads over. The monetization model of RUclips is a very sad state of affairs, but no one seems to have anything better.

    Upload frequency vs time spent in production is much the same as the quantity vs quality dilemma. Finding that quantity vs quality balance is always tough. Higher quantity doesn't mean low quality and lower quantity does automatically guarantee higher quality. In the end its the viewer that decides what quality is and which style of video they want to watch. It gets even more confusing when the most popular videos are the ones you're least satisfied with as a creator and your favorite videos are the ones that preform poorly.

    Great video! I feel like I'm just beginning my YT journey, though I guess I am 2 years in now. Early on, I did one video every other week, then moved to one video a week, which I still do now. For a period of time, just to help populate my number of videos, I did two videos a week, but I batch recorded for two days to help make that easier (and really need to get back in that habit).
    One video a week is pretty doable, but it does keep you busy and always thinking about the video for the week, recording, editing, posting, and repeat. I need to work on building a couple week backlog to help with that I think.
    Either way - I watched this video as I am about to travel, where will record video, but not have the ability to post (no or minimal Internet), which means potentially two week gap in posting videos. I occasionally miss one week (holidays sometimes, I probably only miss 2 weeks a year), but haven't missed 2 weeks in a row ever I don't think. Might be time to whip up a quick Tier 1 video - which I agree are way easier to record and edit!
    Thanks for the insight!

    It has been like this for years, if you want your evergreen old content to get viewed, you HAVE TO, keep uploading regularity, for most people that is every week. The more we post, the better our 4 year old content does. We say its better to put out a video that is not your best work, than no video at all. Adding b-roll is a creative process and rewarding but it takes hours in our niche, RV travel. We are trying to mix heavily edited b-roll bombs with some straight talking head videos with very little broll. I love the 3 tier idea, most of our are in the tier 2, only a few tier 3 videos, add in tier 1s when running out of time to post. Larry

    Style of the video and length are all relative to the content/topic for me. Using your examples, this video was fine as a tier 1 but could have also been a tier 2 like the VidIQ videos but would have been horrible as a tier 3 video. Some videos can be T1, 2, or 3 while others may fit into only 1 or 2 types leaving you options to make what you can/want. Consistency is key but I'd love to post more frequently because I think frequency drives relevancy!

    Jeven I find that with my channel doing tear 2 videos can cause a bit of burn out. and with a tear 1 type video, it feels more authentic and I feel the viewers like that, iv just resantly starting making talking head videos less B roll and strait to the point video eg. fishing Knot tutorials, not a lot of views yet but it is evergreen content, your suggestion is on the money, gona start mixing it up too. thanks for always providing value. your machine!!

    This situation of frequency is really sad for creators!! its a sacrifice of quality for quantity. It is up to the RUclips admin/managers who should be aware of this. Its now so huge that its possible quantity is far more important.

    This comes at a perfect time. I just restarted my channel after 5 years and was thinking about what schedule could work. I’ll say once per week is what I will try.
    And yeah, I liked this style. This one has just been a bit too long. 2/3 or half of the time would have been nice.

  • @KitchenKnifeGuy
    @KitchenKnifeGuy 4 месяца назад

    If I wanted to work in a new schedule, how long do you think it takes for RUclips to recognize your upload frequency as your NEW schedule? So now I do 1 a week. I'm thinking 2 a week would be more sustainable. So I wonder how many weeks it would take of potentially trashing my video views for it to become the 'new' standard.

  • @rc_amigos
    @rc_amigos 4 месяца назад

    Frequency is one thing but does schedule work the same? Also what about lives, should they be re-uploaded as a typical video? My schedule is M= long form, T= Live, and TH= long form. If I post a short here and they I see it as a bonus to me. What if I changed things up on dates? Ive seen consistent growth over the last year, I hit my partnership goal and feel good about the craft of my content but my views are still pretty low. Only about 4-600, with an occasional spike of under 2k.

    It's sad that because the way youtube works people cannot take a break unless they create a bunch of videos upfront to plan out a break. No wonder creators are getting burned out.

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  4 месяца назад +2

      Yeah I think the only way to make RUclips happy while not burning out is by batching content and building in breaks for yourself. This way there is a consistent stream of content even when you step away from the channel for a bit

    Yes, you are right, Jeven! AI can see your channel are still alive or not and they will continue to introduce your videos. To me, the recipe of viral = frequency + quality of the content!!

    We've been putting out 1 video a week, with an occasional midweek surprise video. For the past month we've been going live once a week. It's a slog, but sticking to it and constantly trying to improve.

    If you look at the big media channels they upload 2 or 3 videos a day. Who can do that unless you have a team and budget.
    Now with Ai the platform is about to be saturated.
    Some of my videos have been filmed over 10 years and take me 25 hours to solo edit and produce.
    I can’t increase my frequency so I don’t know what to do.

    Good analyzis. Mechanics showing a "long story", the making of complicated parts, need plenty of time for making, recording and editing. They post "long stories", at some regular basis and it works well.
    Looking at how much the viewers watch, it's never reaching 100%... 50% is considered as much better then average.
    Okey as it's not any advanced, long time story. Flying as much as possible, trying to have variation in the recordings, posting shorter, but not "shorts", videos gives watchings.
    Amazing is that a hand held, not long, phone recording is the leader! It collects viewing without an end.
    Changing the posting rate should be done gradualy as my minimal knowledge suggest.
    Not long ago I prescribed to a channel and immedeately got the shorts notice field filled up. Not being interested at that amount of those shorts in that subject the prescription was cancelled.
    For the time being, 5 minute videos, not telling any story, easy to look at, seem to attract the prescribers and viewers.

    As a fishing channel it is quite hard to produce content every week due to weather, work and of course not every trip yeilds fish so growth has been slow. On the flip side Josh from MakeArtNow only puts out videos every 3 or 4 weeks and he has grown so go figure.

    Last year I did a 6 month backpacking trip. Only now I'm getting into editing the footage. Because it was such a special trip, I feel this pressure to make sure all the videos are top tier 3. But it's quite a bit of work and super time consuming. And the results are whatever tbh. I'm hoping to finish editing all the videos by the end of the year and get the channel monetized🤞

    I have an RUclips Channel that I don't post any video for almost one year and I don't know if it's better to try to recover this channel or create a new one. Is it better retake my channel or restart? This channel has only 44 subcribers and 3 videos. If I start a new channel, I would like to repost these 3 videos... What do you think about my strategy?

    I think shorts can gain subscribers. But at the end of the day I think if you just upload your short video as a normal video it will still gain the same amount of views at the shorts and you will get paid for the normal video. Great content as always.

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  4 месяца назад +1

      I might test short form video length and style but done in horizontal format as a normal video. I don’t think they would have the same viral potential as shorts do but I think they would bring in better viewers to a channel and also have all the advantages of a long form. Would be an easy way to add some extra content into an upload schedule
