  • Three part British mini-series, which first aired on Channel 4 on 24 March 2005. It is set in the year 2009 in a Britain where voter apathy is at an all time high and a new political party (The Democratic Consensus Party) has just been voted into office. Tariq (described as a young tearaway) steals a laptop, not suspecting that it belongs to one of the most influential figures in the DCP, John Spears (Philip Glenister). His friend, Max (Ashley Walters), starts to worry when his friend subsequently vanishes.
Apologies for the poor quality in parts - it was the best I could do.

Loved it. Had the feel of a post Apocalyptic Britain to it.

Not sure if you realise this or not but this section is the same as part 2/3. I really appreciate the effort to upload this and have enjoined what I've seen so far. Unless it's a bug at the moment I just thought that I'd let you know. Cheers.

You have to fast forward quite a bit, maybe 30 mins or so in order to get the rest. However, it still cuts off before the final conclusion with nothing else offered yet.

The ending redeemed some of the weak lines. It was a great story with some unrealistic moments. Thanks for uploading.

It's not believable that the technogeniuses wouldn't have cloned the laptop before going to work on it. Max would've been able to take it with him, and they still could've been able to send out the info. I am a luddite, and even I know that a) you would want a copIES for safe keeping, and b) you always clone a hard drive with sensitive material first, and work on the cloned info, so that you don't alter the original when you start looking around.

BUT, my last point is ultimately a trivial plot failing. I am very glad that one of the main points, if not the main point of this series, is that we MUST have differing and opposing viewpoints in the political arena (as well as all arenas) in order to have freedom and happiness. It's easy to get on the bandwagon that one voice means world peace. And ultimately we have to "come to consensus". BUT, through debate. Not by dictatorship. People are too willing to ceded their political voice to "daddy" or "mommy", we don't want to have to do the work--especially because the politicians are so adept at obscuring the realities of the issues. But we must force ourselves to remain active, not to give up. If everyone did 10% more than they did right now-AH, the politicians would be working for us instead of these corporations. We'd be able to alter the laws, and undo the corporate form for businesses altogether. It was never meant for them in the first place.

For anyone following it this far, the first 32" is the last part of the previous episode. Something got lost somewhere PGF ? I'd got seriously involved up to this point :-(

This is exactly what is going on in America, someone won the election who thinks the same way this character does. I thought they would have heeded the daughters warning, she should have brought the disc to the tv stations and let the people hear and see for themselves, You have to keep watching and make sure you are watching 3/3 otherwise episode 2 does come on again.

I thought She had the disc with her? Stupid that they didn't copy it and give it to the news stations? Or play it on the internet?
When you copy a laptop or computer, you copy the hardrive not the emails.
Then from your copy of that hardrive you copy files you want. As many computers as they had in that warehouse they could have made multiple copies in minutes and sent them out all over the Country to every news agency and to Parliaments website!
      Idiots!

All three actual segments were ~45min long; not sure why uploads of parts 1 & 2 had 20+ minutes of subsequent episodes included? Wasted a chance to reduce uploading bytes.
Part 1: had some serious soundtrack misalignment, and some weird cuts have lost dialogue portions.
Otherwise an interesting plot, duplicating Hitler's Enabling Act to modern times, and reflects the problems we endured in Amerikkka, watching trumP trying to subvert our last 2020 election...

What happened? Is there a REAL ENDING?
Did the Writer go on a Bender, or just Die? .
This film is leaving so much unsaid and undone! The story becomes fractured and unrealistic.
Where's the checks and balances? Does anyone in Parliament or any Authority check the facts? Why any Party member would blindly Vote on a Bill or Law without even knowing what exactly their actually voting on, is ridiculously stupid!
The Computer Geek should know that you copy a hardrive first. Then you make copies of files or in this case the emails, (nice they were video) from your copy in case any file is corrupted. With the number of computers they had on hand, they could have made several copies quickly and hacked into all the TV Stations in London or who knows, all of England to air the material!
Im so disappointed in the ending. There also seems to be a part of this story missing between part two and three?
I feel like they skipped over something... maybe it was another glitch that lasted longer than the hundreds of other glitches and was spliced into part three?
Instead of making out, why isn't Max, who has been hunted down by these thugs, beaten by gang members and used by his buddy over this laptop thinking about making another copy of the disc in front of him? Then handing a copy to the reporters?
    What a dummy! See unrealistic!
Maybe there is an ending and we all missed it? HA! HA!

Yes, we could go out in front of all of those journalists outside--and play them the awful DVD on our laptop--thus negating any nonsense idea that my outburst was indicative of some sort of breakdown, and actually due to the distress of realizing my father is pure evil. But no, my teenage hormones are far more important.
While that seems inane, the fact that the administration would be able to run roughshod over their efforts seems more realistic, as most people aren't willing o put in the work and effort to make real change. They also don't have the financial freedom to spend that much time on it.
However, people do have more ability to work towards these goals than they believe, and create greater change/maintain good things than they know. I have been politically active, and done lobbying against major corporations--AND WON. You can turn the tide. I thought I was gonna die from exhaustion, but the benefits to the health of my family, myself, my community, the environment, at the time and for future generations was MORE than worth it, it was priceless. I couldn't believe we'd won. But we did. From that experience I realized that evil is not a monolith, that there is always infighting, and those of us with right on our side can capitalize on that. I don't mean in any underhand way, as that would be horrid--making us as bad as them. I just mean we don't need to think we can't affect change as little peons, because we can, and their greed for money, power etc...makes it easier for us...

I think if you want to understand how mass movements, which include movements for political change operate from inception to the end I recommend you read " The True Believer " by Eric Hoffer, originally published by Harvard Press. Mr. Hoffer wrote on social issues. I was required to read it at university and decades and a couple of thousand books later, it is still one of the most important secular books I've read.
