  • With the changes to early entry, rope dropping Radiator Springs Racers at California Adventure gets a little more possible. We'll put that to the test as we rope drop Radiator Springs while early entry is happening at Disneyland. Is it any easier? Yes, definitely. But by how much? Enough to make it a good idea? Let's find out!

Luckily, I have been to Disneyland enough times that I personally don't worry anymore about rope drops or even maximizing my time there. I now prefer the leisurely stroll through the parks and just ride things as I get the urge or I am in the vicinity of a certain ride. But, there are some times when I go with family that have young kids, or with people that have never been or have only been once or twice, and it is those times that these videos really help to maximize our time and make sure they get to experience as much of the park as possible in the short time that we are there.

Same. I kind of wish the app wouldn’t give wait times anymore. Kind of pointless now, since a low wait time immediately becomes a high wait time once the app posts it, and vice versa. 😄

For years our family has rope dropped in DCA and gone straight to toy story mania, then in credit coaster, then mission breakout and then single rider radiator Springs racers. we usually stay on Harbor so we can get into Esplanade and into the front gates very early and be one of the first into the line in rope drop. Honestly, this is the best way to do an early entry at DCA because radiator Springs racers is such a long wait right off the bat no matter what.

🔑I think the key is being at the very front of the pack of the rope drop crowd. Period.
I do that when I rope drop Disneyland and I get in line at 6:40-6:45am
I’m usually belly up to the rope
For RSR I’d imagine you HAVE to do this AND then stay to the far left

Security opens at 7Am so you have to be there before that time to be well positioned near the front of the rope - all the hotel guests on Harbor blvd can do that. We line up for security no later than 6:40am - and we have been well positioned near front.

I don’t recall ever waiting more than 30-35 minutes in single rider, even on those 120 minute stand-by days. Maybe once in a great while it goes a little longer when the ride goes into its Up/Down mode.

I tend to do Toy Story first at rope drop, then incredicoaster, the little mermaid, then single rider for RSR I usually wait like 10 minutes since it’s still the morning, then guardians, and monsters inc and then I’m done at DCA by about 11:00am-11:30am

The way that I’ve always been able to get to the front of the turnstile/rope drop lines, has been parking at a hotel for the day on Harbor, and getting to the security line near the buses extremely early. Arriving there from 6:30-6:45 is good, security lines open at 7, and hopefully turnstiles open at 7:30. That’s the only way I’ve been able to be “perfect” in the mornings.
I’m grateful those are the longest lines I wait for in the entire day 😂

Thanks David! So excited to see this. It’s just the video I’ve been looking for. I arrive on March 30 and my DCA early entry date is Tuesday April 2. I ‘ve even considered first hitting Luigi’s if it’s open because it’s down so much when I’ve been looking at app. Then single line for radiator springs. If I don’t do that cause radiator is down than rope dropping Toy Story and Ferris wheel at Pixar pier. I get too motion sick to do guardians even though I have no problem with tower of terror.

I was one of the first cars in line at Mickey and Friends the day I rope dropped Radiator Springs and ended up about where you were in the rope drop wait. And we did sort of rush from the car. I would say hotel guests, but there was early entry that day so they wouldn't have been waiting in that group. It's probably all those people who jump out and wait in line at the gate as the driver waits to park.

Totally agree that RSR isn't worth the rope drop (unless you really don't want to do single rider). We always rope drop Toy Story first, incredicoaster second, then run through all the attractions around the pier. You can do usually all of them in the first 60-90 minutes of the day. Then Grizzly and Soarin' which are usually still mild in the morning or bounce back to RSR when the rope drop/opening crowd has subsided.

I only make it to the parks every other year so we always get G+ and pay for individual LL to save time. So we tend to rope drop standby rides before doing LL anyway. I think this year at DCA we will rope drop maters and luigis since they get to around 35 min later in the day and rarely come down.

I have been interested in parking at Toy Story lot, but never have. I "think" the draw back there is, you can only arrive so early. At Mickey and friends I am typically in the first 10 spots of parking (meaning I am either first at the gate, or second worst case). I arrive to M&F no later than 6:25. I am usually on the tram before 7:10 am, and in line at the park gates by 7:20. All that to say, you could in theory get closer to the entry gate without staying on property but not by much.

  • @MikeTerry1969

Very interesting video. I'm not sure you save any time when you have to arrive so early and wait at the rope drop area for 30 minutes before the park opens, then another 30 minutes to get on the ride.
Had you just waited until 8:30 a.m., the wait was 55 minutes.

Rope Drop is 100% the way to go. We were there at New Years with a 120min estimate. It took 4 hours, we went through every single switchback and extended cue. It all depends on the Lightning lane, it seems like they take too many at certain times.

Need to avoid the big crowds at the Parking Garage/Lot and their Security Check lines and tram/bus lines. We park on the West side of Mickey & Friends and walk to the DTD Security Check which rarely has much of a line but only a couple of security checking people in. Then walk fast to the DCA entrance gate and we were pretty close to the front of the line for rope drop. Your mileage may vary! LOL

Radiator Spring Racers is not that great. I’d rather go to paradise pier and do all of those rides. By the time these guests ride racers, I would be done with most of the rides at Paradise pier.
