Cheers mate, nice video, i just had mine rejected by dvla saying that mine is not a campervan but van with side windows, funny enough all evidence has been provided and its a lwb 2017 t6 with a high roof and all required facilities for cooking and sleeping etc, and to be honest decent reimo high roof doesnt look ugly. I have bought it fully converted by trusted company, all equipment are reimo, fiama, webasto, only thing i didt have was awning. Maybe that what impacted decision that took dvla 4 month to progress. It was a joke seriosly, but i dont mind. Main thing that i love my van and enjoying every moment in it. Thanks for sharing.

I've converted my transit custom with all the items you have on your "van with windows" and recently got done speeding on a duel carriageway, 68mph! 3 points and £120 fine. I sent a full set of photos and receipts for items purchased. I have also taken out special insurance cover for my converted van! So if you are visiting Dorset keep your speed to that of a van! It's just another police income scam..

    Interesting video.
I guess the graphics rule is an attempt to clamp down on the stealth camper vans where I see workman? sleeping in a van overnight in places where it's not allowed. Fridge and roof vents are a give away but you have to know what your looking for. You see lots in central London.

Very helpful. Our transporter was rejected a couple of years ago. Only thing was no logos. No mention of high top at the time, but from what you say it would never be accepted as i would never have a raised roof.

Isn't the main problem with not being able to register a conversion as a camper when it comes to making a claim for a write-off? The difference in value of a van or "van with windows" compared to a camper conversion is very significant. That would be my greatest concern.

how comes there are professional companies still converting low top with a pop top and selling them as campers ? are they breaking the law ??

Can I ask what happens if dvla reject it as a campervan and suggest your campervan as one of their insulting variants (ie. van with windows)? Do they suggest you remove all the furniture to make it a “van with windows” , are you not allowed to sleep in it? In short what are the implications of dvla rejecting your submission? Also what is the positive of having your camper registered as one with dvla? Thanks

If they reject the submission they’re just saying it doesn’t meet THEIR criteria for a campervan, not that it can’t be one. It’s not enforceable like a planning permission is. You can still get insured as a campervan if that’s what you’re using it as, insurers have a simpler checklist - does it have water, cooking facilities etc. insurers don’t care what it looks like, they only care about what you’re using jt as.
Source: I have a t5 camper that’s insured as a camper van, as advised by my insurer. They’re not interested in what the DVLA perceive it as.

Speed limits are not controlled by the DVLA body style, it is construction and use. There are many that argue that it is tax class that control speed limits, this is not true either. The DVLA interior requirements are the construction and use requirements for a motor caravan. Many people have had letters back with the Van with windows V5 declaring that the vehicle can be used as dual/multi purpose. I do not know why the DVLA use van with windows rather than MPV (multi purpose vehicle)
Can I add that not all vans the look like yours which have Motor Caravan on the V5 are done illegally. I converted my 2015 T5.1 prior to the DLVA changing their rules and managed to get it registered.
The real idiotic point is people who have successfully contested a speeding ticket, when the police have squashed the ticket said they should get the Body Type changed on the V5 to prevent future confusion. The whole DVLA's argument that this was to aid the police in identifying vehicles is counter productive to what the police actually want.

So the DVLAard saying the police are blind or so stupid they don't know what a campervan is or someone at the DVLA that doesn't know what they are talking about.
