He was waiting for 6 years , because of the production problems of the studio ,he got fed up and gave it up when he should of done it in 91 and 93 . I not sure if they had a 4 film deal, ,bond was in limbo ,it takes 2 years for bond to be filmed,
I loved The Living Daylights so much when I saw it in the theater as a young lad. He was the first new Bond for me. Roger had been in the role for so long, he was like the fourth Doctor Who.
LIVING DAYLIGHTS started well. First half of the fim is briliant, but it really falters very badly at the end. I had said that the first half was like the best of Connery, and the second half was like the worst of Moore. Liscense to Kill is now one of my 5 favorite Bond films. My first Bond film by the way was YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, when it came out in 67.
Timothy Dalton is the only Bond that I can actually believe has k-lled people before. He just looks like he is haunted by his work and yet, carries out his mission effectively. Truly a phenomenal portrayal.
Dalton was the best Bond in my opinion because he gave a more REALISTIC performance of how a spy like Bond would behave under circumstances he is in. He was more athletic, more efficient, and more ruthless in his portrayal of Bond. He also knew how to emote: act with a sense of urgency; a sense of fear; a sense of anger; and a sense of joy in killing someone. May future actors who play Bond continue to copy the model that Dalton has set and even make the third Bond film he could have made.
I’ve said for a very long time.. Dalton is very underrated and under appreciated as Bond. Connery will forever be number 1 to me but Dalton is a very close second.
Dalton was the most realistic Bond. He behaved like a real person would. Dalton is a fantastic actor, and he went back and read all the Fleming novels before filming The Living Daylights so that he'd know the character inside and out. He nailed it. Dalton was FLEMING's Bond. IMO, he was, indeed, the BEST Bond.
I agree, he certainly was the most skilled actor to play the part. He was a top British stage actor. He was the only actor to play the part where it was a step down for him to play the part.
He also starred in an episode of Charlie's Angels as a spy charactor and it was mentioned that he was very like Bond. I think that he was also offered Bond for OHMSS , but he turned it down because he felt he was too young. He was contracted for a third film. His films were more realistic. He is the tallest to play Bond.
Agreed. I used to rate him last. Now he is my fav. I also used to rate The Living Daylights pretty lowly, but now it is in my top 5 Bond films. Always like Licence to Kill though, even when I rated Dalton lower.
Brosnan was the most well rounded 007. ✅ Debonair ✅ Witty ✅ Masculine ✅ Athletic ✅ Handsome ✅ Ruthless ✅ Seductive But Dalton feels the most methodical and dangerous. Which is awesome.
I’ve always liked Daltons portrayal of Bond, I think one of the reasons why he gets much more praise today than back in the late 80’s is because of the direction Casino Royale took with Daniel Craig. It was much more visceral, edgier Bond than audiences had seen before and Daltons Bond seems like a stepping stone towards the way the Bond franchise went with Craig.
Timothy Dalton was the best James Bond because he is a ( trained) stage actor. Sean Connery had no acting studies, George Lazenby had a model career and not an acting one, he had the looks but no acting experience, Roger Moore was an already established TV actor with some very successful TV series in his bio but mostly a character actor, Piers Brosnan never acted in stage roles and Daniel Craig was cast in James Bond role after establishing himself mostly as a film actor. There is a huge different between stage and TV/film actors because their acting style is different. Stage actors play for real audience so the way they talk is very expressive and with different pace and articulation than TV/film actors who play for the camera. Timothy Dalton played a darker and more formidable James Bond which is what James Bond ought to be at the end of the day. An agent with a license to kill and a spy, a killer by profession, he is not just a heartthrob socializing guy who happens to be an agent too.
One correction to the video - Dalton was the first choice for The Living Daylights, but he was busy filming Brenda Starr and wasn't available when they needed him. That forced EON to go to Plan B. Pierce Brosnan. But then Brosnan got screwed by NBC and HE couldn't do it. This delayed the start of The Living Daylights just enough that Dalton was now available when the movie was rescheduled to start filming, so Cubby Broccoli got the actor he had wanted in the role since 1969! (Dalton was offered the part before Lazenby was cast, but he turned it down because he was too young for the role at that point.) Broccoli never gave up on casting Dalton, and he finally got him.
My favorite Bond and the closest to the Fleming original! He only did two films, but at least they are two good ones. Licence to Kill has gotten better and better as time has passed!
I've only seen the first Dalton Bond film but I think of him as the best Bond. I kept saying to myself as I watched it, "This guy is a spy and a killer." 😎 007
In 2030 they'll release Dalton's 3rd film, Property of a Lady created by AI. We'll watch it with the same anticipation as we did when the Star Wars rereleases came out with the CGI scenes added. Dalton is so brilliant.
I think a lot of people didn't know how to pivot from Moore to Dalton. And it didn't help that the Living Daylights lines were clearly written for Pierce Brosnan, who had to back out at the last minute because of a contract dispute. The second movie was much more Dalton's... And he's so much more edgier than any previous Bond. And it wasn't just that. His lines were better and more blunt. His movements are snappier. Its like he's made of lightning that's trying escape. I don't think License to Kill is the best bond film. But its clear that Dalton was cut out for the part. And the fact that we kind of get to see a James Bond that has been left off of the leash, really made for an intense movie. I agree, he should have been in at least 2-3 more films. Even thought I did want Pierce to play Bond with all my heart. Its a shame they couldn't make parallel Bonds. Because I really wouldn't have minded if they put out one film of each Bond every few years.
Controversial opinion and I am absolutely here for it. Although my favourite is Connery Dalton is second for me. I love his interpretation of the character. For me it goes Connery Dalton Craig Moore Lazenby Brosnan
Thank you for your video, and your straightforward view of Timothy Dalton. First off, George Lazenby remains at the top of my list, now and for all time. Thanks to the determination and vision of Peter Hunt, nothing beats “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Hunt loved the novel, and skillfully adapted it to the screen; it remains one of the most faithful renditions of an Ian Fleming story. Lazenby was the most athletic, confident, and human James Bond. In fact, his fighting skill is what finally won him the part, over four other finalists. But “Licence To Kill” is an absolute favourite, because it dared to be so different. After a 12-year diet of Roger Moore, it was a relief to see a serious actor take on the role. Dalton told the producers from the outset that he wasn’t interested in a Moore script. “The Living Daylights” was finding its way with a new 007, trying too hard to be warm and fuzzy with a single romantic relationship (and not a very interesting one). But John Glen, Richard Maibaum, and everyone involved hit their stride with Dalton’s second effort. Dalton brought a level of humanity to Bond not seen since (forgive me) Lazenby’s time. Having friendship and personal vengeance take precedence over Queen & Country was a scenario perfectly suited to Dalton. Carey Lowell was a credible, dynamic, lovely co-star; Robert Davi a superb villain. The catalyst of the plot - the maiming of Felix Leiter - is taken directly from Fleming. I never tire of seeing this film. Timothy Dalton is generally dismissed because he only made two films. Could any actor stick around for six years, waiting for MGM and UA to settle their legal issues? Doubtful!
That is what Desmond Lewelling (Q) said. Timothy is also a serious RADA Shakespearean actor. I think George Lazenby was a graduate of RADA as well but not the others.
I thought he was great in his first Bond film, and it was a breath of fresh air from the almost comedic version that Moore became. I still love Connery and like Craig fine (not all the movies though). But I wish Timothy Dalton had done more.
he had class, i choose him, easier than to balance sean or roger - both very good....to make it even more easier i enjoy 1962-1989 movies / actors only....
Finally someone says it. While I think "Property of Lady" would have had quite the weird plot, Dalton is still the gold standard for me when it comes to Bond actors. And despite Goldeneye being my favourite Bond, it sometimes feels like a Dalton movie.
Dalton has always been my top Bond. When I finally got round to reading the books, the Bond I see is Dalton, not any of the others nor Hoagie Carmichael.
Comparisons can be tricky, because a lot of credit and/or blame can be given to writers and producers. How would Dalton have done in a Moore-style film? Or Craig in Die Another Day? That being said, I agree that Dalton was probably the closest all-around to the book version. I just wish I liked his films more.
I don't believe to the best Bond, but to the right person for the role and the time. Dalton was the right man after Moore and ''A View to a Kill'' should have been his first film. He was unlucky, because the years 1990-1994 we didn't have a Bond film. By playing in ''A View to a Kill'' and possibly in another one film in 1992 to celebrate 30 years of Bond films, he would play in four films.
Dalton was a more literary interpretation, like Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.. Brave and dedicated, considering he could have easily camped it up ala Sexette, Flash Gordon and The Rocketeer.
The definitive Bond to me is Sean Connery, followed by Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, Daniel Craig, Roger Moore & Pierce Brosnan. If Timothy wld have make another more 2 Bond movies, he could have topped Sean in terms of in depth performance & best characterisation of Bond as what Ian Fleming have created envision of Bond.
Fleming wasn't a fan of Connery "at first", but he became impressed with him over time and he ended up giving Bond a part-Scottish background. Dr No is an over the top novel, but that was kind of "the point" of said novel- compared to the previous, slightly more grounded villains, Dr No was intended to be a more insane maniac, though the movies skipped this point by making his movie first and by the film No being more serious and less of a cartoon. The other books still have their eccentricities (and YOLT- the second-to-last novel- is batsh*t crazy in its own way) but generally they are more down to Earth by comparison- like the films, the books are a mix of gritty spy story and wild adventure.
Dalton is still my second favorite after Connery. For Your Eyes Only was the darkest of the Moore era Bond films. Moore and Brosnan are probably tied for me. I don’t even think about Lazenby’s movie much. Craig’s movies had good action but I didn’t think he had any charisma. Dalton was dark but still had charisma.
Dalton was always the best one to me, he had the best films too. Roger Moore is a second one (I like him in The Saint more when he was younger), third one is Connery and these are my favourites, probably because they are classics and you can feel it on the screen. My childhood was in 90s so I haven't started watching Connery/Moore Bonds until 1999. But when I started, I fell in love with these classics. I hated Brosnan back then but now I wish he could return seeing what they did with this mark. Brosnan is my 4th one and Lazenby was the 5th one and the last, he was very wooden in acting and didn't fit. I don't count Daniel Craig because it is a reboot series with him and he shouldn't have been on the list.
You’re wrong about Fleming’s opinion of Connery. While he wasn’t a fan when casting, he did a complete 180 when filming; so much so that he gave Bond his Scottish background solely because of Connery.
I liked Dalton's Bond best. Had been thinking Moore's Bond had become too cartoonish and formulaic. Like his character that spoofed Bond, on the TV show The Persuaders... Also thought Carey Lowell's character Pam Bouvier as the first Bond Girl that could've carried her own spinoff movie...
That is no brainer that Dalton is the best Bond. He is the dark Bond of Berlin Wall and Connery is the tropical Bond of the escapist fantasy. Both are the best. Moore is West's Batman with all those gadgets and humour, Lazenby is a parallel dimension Bond, and Brosnan is the final Bond. Shame Dalton did not starred Bond through whole 80s.
Dalton was a breath of fresh air after some very campy films starring Roger Moore, two of which were some of my least favorite in the series. Dalton reminded us that Bond isn’t a man to be trifled with and with less emphasis placed on sex in Living Daylights and Licence to Kill left more time for the stories. Connery might still be my favorite Bond, but Dalton and Craig tie for second place.
I remember the story later about Dalton wanting to stick to the book Bond more, and that some were outraged with the Licence to Kill movie, after coming off of Moore, they thought it was TOO violent. I read some of the books, and Bond was no boy scout 😮 He was a mean SOB As to fave Bond, I grew up on them as they came out in order. I still like watching Connery, couple of the middle Moore flicks were cringe, George was meh, liked Goldeneye. Casino Royale and Skyfall were good Craig films, but Spectre was horrible IMO and No Time to Die was forgettable
Just Timothy Dalton was not a smart businessman. He signed a 3 film deal. Even if it expired in 1993, think of your fan base. The Broccolis' wanted him back in 1994. But Dalton only wanted to do one. Dalton should have closed out the 1990s, by playing Bond for 3 films - which would have given us a proper 5 James Bond Films starring Timothy Dalton and no Pierce Brosnan! Then Clive Owen would have succeeded Dalton in the role. Clive Owen resembles Dalton so much both in acting and looks.
It's a shame he only got to do two, and one of them, a pretty different movie, in LTK. Still, these 2 movies, together with GoldenEye, which was also to be "his" movie, were the last good classic Bond movies, as Brosnan's remaining 3 were pretty bad and Craig is a whole different thing.
I met Timothy Dalton. He's a very nice man and a good actor but I saw LIVING DAYLIGHTS on the big screen and it was BOOOOOOORING! As much as I like his other roles he had me pining for Roger Moore.
I don't get the love for Connery, as the first three films were good in spite of him. Connery wasn't that good on screen and is just average at best as his final three films suffered immensely with Connery clearly in it for the paycheck and should've given up the role to somebody who would've appreciated the role.
The Newer James Bonds are Trash 🗑️. The older ones are just so much better. I refuse to watch the newer ones. Any James Bond with an Aston Martin DB5 or before is gold.
I don't know why but Dalton never felt like Bond to me. Of course, Moore and Lazenby didn't seem like Bond to me either. It's all a matter of who was Bond during your most impressionable period.
Just a tragedy that he only appeared in two films.
But they were both gold.
He was waiting for 6 years , because of the production problems of the studio ,he got fed up and gave it up when he should of done it in 91 and 93 . I not sure if they had a 4 film deal, ,bond was in limbo ,it takes 2 years for bond to be filmed,
Real good ones though. No bad movies.. So..
Indeed, we really missed out on this one.
More like a blessing.
I loved The Living Daylights so much when I saw it in the theater as a young lad. He was the first new Bond for me. Roger had been in the role for so long, he was like the fourth Doctor Who.
Same here !
Glad someone else agrees that Dalton is the best bond! My whole life I’ve always felt like I was the only one 😭
And there are people who voted for Kamala.
Definetly Timothy Dalton!!!
Tim Dalton is actually the only actor to encompass the physical appearance and acting of the character created by Ian Fleming.
Timothy Dalton is the only Bond that I can actually believe has k-lled people before. He just looks like he is haunted by his work and yet, carries out his mission effectively. Truly a phenomenal portrayal.
Connery had the same air.
I loved old Roger Moore but Timothy has was a refreshing change in 1987. Loved the opening credits of The Living Daylights one of the best.
dalton's delivery of "bond, james bond" in the living daylights is my favourite reading of that line
It’s rushed
@@t7489 No it was dismissive, perfect
Dalton was the best Bond in my opinion because he gave a more REALISTIC performance of how a spy like Bond would behave under circumstances he is in. He was more athletic, more efficient, and more ruthless in his portrayal of Bond. He also knew how to emote: act with a sense of urgency; a sense of fear; a sense of anger; and a sense of joy in killing someone.
May future actors who play Bond continue to copy the model that Dalton has set and even make the third Bond film he could have made.
Dalton was the best.
Loved to have seen more Dalton Bond Movies. At least 4.
I’ve said for a very long time.. Dalton is very underrated and under appreciated as Bond. Connery will forever be number 1 to me but Dalton is a very close second.
Dalton was the most realistic Bond. He behaved like a real person would. Dalton was FLEMING's Bond. IMO, he was, indeed, the BEST Bond.
Dalton definetely is my favourite Bond actor.
He’s my favorite as well. Whenever I read the novels I envision Timothy Dalton as Bond
I agree with you, Sir!
I agree, he certainly was the most skilled actor to play the part. He was a top British stage actor. He was the only actor to play the part where it was a step down for him to play the part.
Timothy Dalton is my favorite Bond actor period. I catch so much heat years past by bringing him up in conversation. So Dark Bond it is for me.
Dalton is my favourite Bond…
Absolutely agree. The best.
Dalton was the bond of the books hard and gritty and leathal
thankyou ! iv been telling people this forever !
I've been saying this for years. I'm glad he's finally getting his due.
Agreed. I used to rate him last. Now he is my fav. I also used to rate The Living Daylights pretty lowly, but now it is in my top 5 Bond films. Always like Licence to Kill though, even when I rated Dalton lower.
Completely agree!👏👏
Brosnan was the most well rounded 007.
✅ Debonair
✅ Witty
✅ Masculine
✅ Athletic
✅ Handsome
✅ Ruthless
✅ Seductive
But Dalton feels the most methodical and dangerous.
Timothy is vastly underrated
Not only was Dalton the best Bond, but he was also the spitting image of my late brother which was very cool.
Dalton was my Bond and is the best to play the role and I will die on this hill.
Dalton is my absolute favourite 🤩
The Spy Who Loved Me is my favorite Bond film. But Dalton is my favorite Bond.
Couldnt agree more
One correction to the video - Dalton was the first choice for The Living Daylights, but he was busy filming Brenda Starr and wasn't available when they needed him.
It’s true, Dalton was the best imo too
My favorite Bond and the closest to the Fleming original! He only did two films, but at least they are two good ones. Licence to Kill has gotten better and better as time has passed!
Agreed. Dalton was my favourite.
They could make Dalton's 3rd outing as a video game. His voice still sounds epic.
Agree completely, dalton was the closest to the fleming character
No arguments from me. Dalton is the best and LTK is the best Bond film ever.
I also think he was the most correct JB.
Controversial opinion and I am absolutely here for it. Although my favourite is Connery Dalton is second for me. I love his interpretation of the character.
For me it goes
Connery
Dalton
Craig
Moore
Lazenby
Brosnan
Brosnan last? I can’t accept this.
@ why can’t you accept it? What makes his Bond so great that he’s better than anyone that’s above him?
Thank you for your video, and your straightforward view of Timothy Dalton.
First off, George Lazenby remains at the top of my list, now and for all time. Thanks to the determination and vision of Peter Hunt, nothing beats “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Hunt loved the novel, and skillfully adapted it to the screen; it remains one of the most faithful renditions of an Ian Fleming story. Timothy Dalton is generally dismissed because he only made two films. Could any actor stick around for six years, waiting for MGM and UA to settle their legal issues? Doubtful!
Dalton should have done Goldeneye!!! He still looked the same in 1994. I still hurt because Dalton gave up the role like he did.
No need for apologies. Dalton is the best Bond and The Living Daylights is the best Bond film.
That is what Desmond Lewelling (Q) said.
Timothy is also a serious RADA Shakespearean actor.
I think George Lazenby was a graduate of RADA as well but not the others.
Dalton was most like book Bond both in physical appearance and personality. Dalton was also pound for pound arguably the best actor to play the role.

Absolutely

I agree. Dalton is the best Bond by far.
It’s an absolute travesty he only did two films!
i always love Sean but i agreed with your topic.
Glad I'm not the only one that thinks Dalton was the best Bond
The two best 007s were only in a grand total of three films-Dalton and Lazenby.
Close to the book
I don't believe to the best Bond, but to the right person for the role and the time. Dalton was the right man after Moore and ''A View to a Kill'' should have been his first film. Omg yes!!! Timothy Dalton Bond is Sophisticated, sexy, briliant and dangerous
Despite his going rogue, for me it's simple. If I'm M, I want to hire the Dalton Bond.
Dalton, Connery, Craig, Brosnan, Lazenby and Moore, in that order.
Brosnan is the worst

Roger Moore is a second one (I like him in The Saint more when he was younger), third one is Connery and these are my favourites, probably because they are classics and you can feel it on the screen. Mr. Bean is the best Bond, PERIOD!!!
He was 006.
Dalton and Brosnan are my favourite bonds I honestly said the worst Bond is Roger Moore he wasn't near to what the character is like in the books
I remember the story later about Dalton wanting to stick to the book Bond more, and that some were outraged with the Licence to Kill movie, after coming off of Moore, they thought it was TOO violent. I read some of the books, and Bond was no boy scout 😮 He was a mean SOB
As to fave Bond, I grew up on them as they came out in order.
Only 1 like? Seriously!!!!
Only 1 like? Seriously!!!
“salt corrosion”
The upsurge of love for Dalton's Bond I've seen of late warms my heart
Because of Craig killing off Bond. Fans want you to forget about Craig.
I agree his tenure is the only perfect one there is no Spectre or Die another day or Moonraker in his tenure just two strong films
He's close. Moore because of nostalgia, then dalton, brosnan, Connery, Craig and lazenby rounding out the bottom.
Without Dalton, there would be no Craig.
Timothy Dalton made James Bond, Daniel Craig killed James Bond!
I met Timothy Dalton. He's a very nice man and a good actor but I saw LIVING DAYLIGHTS on the big screen and it was BOOOOOOORING! As much as I like his other roles he had me pining for Roger Moore.
Roger Moore hands down 😊
I grew up with Sean Connery put Daniel Craig add number two Pierce brosnan Ben Rodger Moore
I don't get the love for Connery, as the first three films were good in spite of him. Connery wasn't that good on screen and is just average at best as his final three films suffered immensely with Connery clearly in it for the paycheck and should've given up the role to somebody who would've appreciated the role.
Sean looked bored in a lot of his scenes, way overrated
The Newer James Bonds are Trash 🗑️. The older ones are just so much better. I refuse to watch the newer ones.
Any James Bond with an Aston Martin DB5 or before is gold.
I don't know why but Dalton never felt like Bond to me. Of course, Moore and Lazenby didn't seem like Bond to me either. It's all a matter of who was Bond during your most impressionable period.
I prefer Lazenby and Dalton over Bronson and Craig.
Sean Connery played Bond seven times not six.
