I like how you broke down the movies into tiers versus 25 to 1 rankings. I'm an old fart. The first Bond movie I saw in the theaters was From Russia With Love. I will state right off, this remains my favorite Bond film - just a really good espionage movie. Goldfinger is where the Bond formula began - opening action sequence that has nothing to do with the rest of the story, a gadget laden car, cheeky names for the Bond women. Connery just exudes confidence, charm, brutishness. I also think that the 3 film run of FRWL, Goldfinger and Thunderball was when Bond peaked. 3 great films in a row, never to be equaled since. Yes, there would be a good film, followed by a dud. The exception is Dalton's 2 films. Damn it I wish he had a 3rd film. If he did, he could easily have gone on to make a 4th and a 5th. Imagine him in Goldeneye? Connery is my favorite Bond. My favorite of his films are FRWL, Goldfinger, Thunderball. I agree with on Domino (played by the gorgeous Claudine Auger who is actually my all time favorite Bond girl, followed by Eva Green as Vespar. And let's not forget the gorgeous Lucianna Paluzzi as Fiona). Lazenby: OHMSS is a good film. It's good not because of Lazenby, but because of everything and everyone else around Lazenby. He's the weak link. Good direction, Good score. Telly Savalas is probably the best Blofeld. Moore: I never cared for his portrayal. It was silly and he really was playing Simon Templar. My favorites are Octopussy and Spy Who Loved Me. Spy is like YOLT only set on the oceans not in space. I actually do not like Jaws. That character ruins it for me. Maybe if he was just a henchman and not had those stupid teeth, it would be better. Octopussy has a great cast. Louis Jordan is probably my favorite villain (followed by Robert Davi) Dalton: my second favorite actor to play Bond. Both his movies are superb. Daylights is more of Bond on assignment. License - he is on a personal vendetta. Both are great. Benicio del Torres is a great henchman. I like Dalton's gritty, no nonsense, serious professional approach to the job. Living Daylights has a great soundtrack by John Barry (the last he would do for the Bond series) Brosnan: Yeah, Goldeneye hits it out of the park (but does not crack my top 5). The best Brosnan one. Sean Bean is superb. Famke Janssen is probably the best hench(wo)man. Great action, great script, great direction. Tomorrow Never Dies is good with its weaknesses. Jonathan Pryce is an excellent villain. Michelle Yeoh kicks serious ass. His other 2 are really not very good. Craig: Casino Royale is superb. Everything about it is top notch. Quantum - there were problems. A strike happening does not help matters. To the point that Craig actually wrote some of the script! I do like Skyfall. Javier Bardem is a good villain. We get Q and Moneypenny back. I do like Tanner (played by Rory Kinnear). Spectre is okay, but No Time To Die just sucks. I agree with your assessment. And they killed Bond. How the hell do you bring Bond back? What do you do - say it's a code name? So, my top 10: (5, 6, 7 are all kinda tied for the same spot) 10. Spy Who Loved Me 9. Octopussy 8. Skyfall (or Tomorrow Never Dies - depending on my mood) 7. Thunderball 6. Goldeneye 5. Casino Royale 4. Living Daylights 3. License to Kill 2. Goldfinger 1. From Russia With Love My rankings of the actors who have played Bond: 6. Lazenby 5. Moore 4. Brosnan 3. Craig 2. Dalton 1. Connery Anyway, this is all subjective. It was fun watching your video))
One of my issues with the film was that the first half of the film for me is like the best of Sean Connery, but the second half is like the worst of Roger Moore. No, I was not a fan of Roger as James Bond, he was for me THE SAINT.
Did not think I would enjoy this video but man I loved it. So fun. Very different from my ranking and also a lot of similarities lol. I liked the way you placed them and then moved them around in their groups. 🎉🎉🎉
Great video. I appreciate the Dalton love and am also very grateful someone else is willing to criticize Skyfall in any way. For Your Eyes Only is definitely a sleeper pick that ekes its way up the rankings over time and Octopussy deserves so much more respect. For me, Spectre and No Time to Die duke it out for last place with both easily having the worst villains of the entire series. Craig had massive potential with Casino Royale but sadly, he never came close to those heights again
My top 10 would be: 1. Goldeneye 2. The Living Daylights 3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 4. For Your Eyes Only 5. From Russia With Love 6. Casino Royale 7. The Spy Who Loved Me 8. Goldfinger 9. License To Kill 10. Octopussy Man 007 & N64 are two of my passions as well.
Very refreshing to hear your HONEST comments about On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The sudden pretentious fandom of this dud has got to be one of the best examples of the "emperor's new clothes" fable I've seen in real life. Liking a more "serious" Bond movie doesn't make you an intellectual and naming a more obscure entry as your "favorite" doesn't make you superior. I have zero issue with Bond falling in love and getting married in concept but did we really need a sappy 1930s style love montage and face softening lighting to hammer in the supposed romance? Speaking of which, how romantic can it really be when the whole courtship started from Tracy's dad bribing Bond to date her because she needs a "man to dominate her" 🤨? Oh and then she disappears for over half the movie while he cheats on her numerous times only for her to show up and have him suddenly propose marriage out of nowhere. Anyone who praises this as a great romance should lay off the campy spy films for a while because you clearly haven't seen many romance movies. Worst Bond performance of all time. Bottom 3 villain plot. The least amount of action/the worst pacing in the series. This movie was rightfully panned when it came out and has only become "popular" now because 1) people remember the last scene more than they remember the rest of the movie and 2) weird hipsters got tired of hearing about Goldfinger and Goldeneye from casuals and wanted a way to look different/superior. Also, LOL in advance for anyone using "it's the most faithful adaptation of Fleming" as some sort of odd justification of this movie's worth as if Fleming was incapable of writing a dud as well (Pistols Scaramanga anyone?). The book sucks and the movie was somehow much worse. EASILY bottom 3 of the series.
My top five is: Licence To Kill Casino Royale Octopussy The Spy Who Loved Me The Living Daylights So nice to see a list that has all of these in the top tiers!
Really liked the commentary on your experience with all the Bond films. I'd definitely enjoy seeing more content like this, like other movie series. Something I can listen to at work. Brings back a lot of nostalgic memories. It would be cool to hear about your experiences playing all the different bond games too. Some are good some are trash
I love knowing you’d listen to my ramblings at work. I’ll put in my best effort for you. Good idea to rank all Bond games! There’s a couple I’ll still need to play before making that video, but it’s on my list. Thanks for all the input and staying with me on the journey.
This vid popped up on my feed a few days ago and then I watched a bunch of your earlier ones. Now watching this one again. Really great work, man, so pumped to see what else you rank Btw, where do you put Never Say Never Again? Or do we just not talk about that one....
“Never Say Never Again” would rank F tier had I included it. Personally I see “The Rock” as the true spiritual successor of Sean Connery’s James Bond.. and that movie would rank S tier.
@@lesliestiers I saw NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN. when it came out. I liked it a lot actually. It was nice to see Sean Connery back in the role. Also I felt that Barbara Carrera and Klaus Maria Brandauer were much better in there woles than the one is THUNDERBALL. though I agree that the leading actress, can't remember either of their names, the one In Thunderball was much better. Also Brandauer's character was really for me the first villain who was 3 dimiensional.
Really enjoyed this. Your opinions are sound , and whilst I agree woth some of your rankings and the reasons why, some I don't , but that's the beauty of options, everyone has one, and being respectful , when someone doesn't agree with your rankings, (such as ohmss being at the bottom and casino royale being top tier bond,), for me, what the Bond communiity does best, respcting others rankings. I mean you only have to go on star wars forums and other movie forums to find others jumping down each other's throat for merely having an opinion, let alone ranking the movies. So good video, most enjoyable.
Your S-tier is rock solid. I would swap Die Another Day and Moonraker for the exact reasons you mentioned. Moonraker was ridiculous, but I enjoyed it. I felt Die Another Day was boring and over the top.
Appreciate that! Yeah.. Die Another Day was a special childhood movie theatre experience, whereas Moonraker shat on an S tier. They may swap places for me one day; likely because of the phenomenal sets and art direction of Moonraker vs Die Another Days over reliance on CGI and green-screens.
Pretty good list, but OHMSS is a superb Bond film. It's also just a great film period. Dianna Rigg gives us a memorable performance as Tracy. The soundtrack is one of the best in the entire series. George Lazenby is top notch in the fight scenes and does an admirable job in the acting department. The entire film is also beautifully shot. There really isn't a dull moment in the entire film. And then of course there is the love story which was a first at that time. The ending is tragic with Tracy's death and one you will always remember. Even though Sean Connery is my favorite James Bond, the one I grew up with, OHMSS will always be one of my favorite James Bond films.😊
I have seen three Bond movies at the theater and two of them were Dalton's...I appreciate your review of Licence to Kill and The Living Daylights. What could have been had we gotten Dalton for 5-6 Bond films! In fact, they should have reboot the franchise with him.
love this. there must be long winters where you come from. can you do a ranking of Disney musicals. watching this I realize I've seen all of these film at some point in my life. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I agree with you on The spy who loved me being the best Roger Moore film. I'm in the minority on this one, but I really enjoy A view to a kill. Walken really sells it as the bad guy. The last scene with him where he falls off the golden gate bridge. One of the most satisfying villain death in history.
Yeah, Golden Eye is the best one. The first 15 minutes of the movie are THE best bond intro ever. For me, the moment when James catches the plane is the perfect definition of a James Bond movie: He can manage anything. Pierce Brosnan is the perfect James Bond for me as he PERFECTLY took all the best of the one before him and put them in a single Bond. He's ruthless like Dalton's Bond, He's charming and suave as Conrey and he's funny, quirky, and a sex "Addict" like Moore. He is the perfect balance for a Bond, The sad part is only that none of his movies stand to the level of Golden Eye. They are good but not the best yet they are for me the end of the "Real" James bond. The movie with Craig isn't the same... Before him, when you watched a Bond movie, it would feel different from the rest of the Action movies of its time. Like you had Arnold and Stalone and you have Bond. But with the Craig era, they feel a lot more like all the other action movie. They all started to feel like they wanted to be Jason Bourne.
I think whatever bond is from the individual's era has a great chance of determining how they place the individual's choice. for me , I grew up in the roger Moore era, so my favourite bond movies are live and let die , the man with the golden gun , the spy who loved me and for your eyes only. I also had the privilege of seeing roger Moore in England and sitting in his company for almost 3 hours. He was the classiest guy I ever met in my entire life and his stories were totally hilarious. Roger never took himself seriously in the saint , the persuades and James Bond. He really was a terrific guy. 👍
To me, the transition from the classics to the "new" Bond movies happens right between Brosnan's 2nd and 3rd film. Tomorrow Never Dies might be THE cleanest textbook example of the classic Bond formula: All the classic tropes, no extra fluff. The writers didn't try to challenge us viewers, they just tried to give us a good time. Little did we know in 1997 that almost three decades later, this would still be the last time Bond is just a man on a mission, working for a well functioning secret service, which is run by competent people that have their shit together. Enter Neil Purvis and Robert Wade. The infamous screenwriter duo has been involved in, if not fully responsible for, all Bond screenplays since The World Is Not Enough. And once you know this and watch them all in order, you'll see a pattern: Suddenly, it's all about moles within the secret service, Bond going rogue, and deep dives into the personality flaws and judgement errors of M and even Bond himself. Those ideas and themes may have felt fresh back in 1999 (although they are highly derivative of the rebooted Mission Impossible franchise that COINCIDENTALLY was just taking off right around that time). But as of 2024, I'm sick of it. And for the most part, the movies suffer as a result. There's one from the past 25 years that stands out and sits far above the rest: And that's the one that closely follows an original Fleming novel, as opposed to some random bullshit idea Purvis and Wade came up with. As for the single other A tier movie from that period, Skyfall, I'd like to borrow your Christmas tree analogy: It's the same old, rotten tree as the others, but it's so fully covered with nice shiny ornaments that you don't notice until you start to look closer.
After making the video, I did a thought exercise. Instead of grade ranking them, I asked what if we had to lose 5? Honestly I can lose everything post new millennium except for 1.. which is Casino Royale. All the others are tarnished. They feel compromised, ridden with a fowl stench, and severely lacking charm. Even tho I can find good attributes, if we lost the whole Craig era, I’d say it’s a tragedy for 1 reason and a gift for 4 others.
Spectre came out at the same time as the Marvel Films, that all did a fantastic job of foreshadowing each other and hinting towards a deeper connection in later in the franchise. Something Marvel planned ‘years’ ahead! And the Bond team thought they could get away with a lazy ass retcon scene, where Blofelt just says ‘It was all me!’ What a load of horse poop!
As I already expected after your villains ranking video, this is probably the ranking of Bond films closest to my personal one I'll ever find on the internet. The one outlier we view very differently is On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and on the other hand I fail to see Diamonds are Forever's redeeming qualities, or I just don't enjoy them. Switch those two, and we have the same top 12, even in similar order. Anyway, here's my full list: 1. GoldenEye (S) 2. Casino Royale (S) 3. Goldfinger (S) 4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (S) 5. Licence to Kill (A+) 6. Tomorrow Never Dies (A) 7. You Only Live Twice (A) 8. The Spy Who Loved Me (A) 9. Skyfall (A-) 10. From Russia With Love (A-) 11. Octopussy (B+) 12. The Living Daylights (B+) 13. The Man with the Golden Gun (B) 14. Live And Let Die (B) 15. Dr. No (B) 16. Quantum of Solace (B-) 17. The World is Not Enough (C+) 18. For Your Eyes Only (C+) 19. Thunderball (C) 20. No Time To Die (C-) 21. Die Another Day (D) 22. A View to a Kill (D) 23. Moonraker (D-) 24. Diamonds are Forever (D-) 25. Spectre (F)
I’m happy to read you’ve been watching through these vids, thank you. Something wonderful and interesting about the Bond series is how wildly different peoples tastes and preferences vary.. including our own over time.
I clicked on this video because no matter how many times I refreshed my homepage, youtube kept putting this on the top of my recommended..... And now I'm commenting on it, so that's only going to reinforce the algorithm.
Although I disagree with you on a number of these, it doesn't effing matter...your presentation is hilarious and I can't knock you on any of your points! This video breezed by like the pacing of Casino Royale, and I 100% agree Sanchez is THE best baddie in the entire series. Also, couldn't agree with you more about Skyfall. Well done, sir
I consider myself only a fan of the first 16 movies. 1. For Your Eyes Only 2. Moonraker 3. Live And Let Die 4. A View To A Kill 5. The Spy Who Loved Me 6. On Her Majestys Secret Service 7. Licencse To Kill 8. Dr. No 9. From Russia With Love 10. The Living Daylights 11. Octopussy 12. Diamonds Are Forever 13. Goldfinger 14. The Man With The Golden Gun 15. You Only Live Twice 16. Thunderball huge Roger Moore fan
Timothy Dalton's Bond was the only one that carried the ghosts of the past within him. Roger Moore just dealt with the trauma by being a straight up predator 😂
As a young teenager, I exhaustively played the N64 game before really seeing the movie. At a time when videogames didn't bear much visual resemblance to the movies. So I was surprised at the movie and how watchable it was and memorable the characters. Too bad Tomorrow Never Dies is stuck in GoldenEye's massive shadow, making everyone hate TND's few weaknesses. While just like this review, I think Brosnan's final outing totally works if you don't take it too seriously. While World is Not Enough is easily forgettable other than its fun opening sequence.
Totally agree with you regarding OHMSS, it's a case of the emporers new clothes. And again can't disagree with no time to die, you said earlier in the video that you watch James bond films for fun and no matter how bad the film is you usually come out the cinema with a smile, not so with NTTD.
You have more movies in S tier than anywhere else. You truly are a 007 fan. I might put Die Another Day lower but I love that you didn't spank Tomorrow Never Dies too much. I really like it and it doesn't overstay it's welcome. I am about to order the whole series now. That's your fault. Cheers! Can't wait to watch all of these.
Good job! Except "Live and Let Die" has great imagery and should move up. And so should "Diamonds are Forever". Otherwise, love your descriptions that make me chuckle! Good Luck!
“Live and Let Die” is ready to kick down the door to B tier. It took me awhile, but I like it a little more every time I watch. Diamonds may move up over time, but it’s already high enough for a very silly movie.
My ranking: 25. No Time to Die (Many reasons for this, although I don't think it's as bad as a movie like Never Say Never Again) 24. Octopussy (Just because it's in second to last place doesn't mean I can't enjoy this movie) 23. A View to a Kill 22. Die Another Day 21. The World is Not Enough (Starting to enjoy this movie more) 20. The Man With The Golden Gun 19. Quantum of Solace 18. For Your Eyes Only 17. The Living Daylights 16. Spectre (Sue me, I enjoy this movie) 15. Moonraker 14. Diamonds Are Forever (I think people to tend overhate this movie. It isn't a classic Bond movie, but I don't think it's supposed to be) 13. You Only Live Twice (The theme song is wonderful) 12. License to Kill 11. Live and Let Die 10. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Brought down by Lazenby's performance) 9. Tomorrow Never Dies 8. Thunderball 7. Goldfinger 6. From Russia With Love 5. The Spy Who Loved Me 4. Dr. No 3. Casino Royale 2006 2. Skyfall 1. GoldenEye
Regarding SPECTRE, my lawyers will be contacting you shortly. regarding your rankings. Perce Brosnan best is GoldenEYE. CASINO ROYALE for Craig. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE for Connery, MOONRAKER with MOORE. No MOORE fan as Bond, but enjoyed that one the most of all the Moore Bond films. LICENSE TO KILL FOR DALTON.
❤ your ranking. On a similar tier to mine. I think Timothy Dalton is the best bond & if you throw in goldeneye and casino royale❤ no time to die I hate- u have the ugly guy who played freddie mercury- too long boring. Your list is the same as mine.
Timothy Dalton was first approached for Bond after his debut performance in THE LION IN WINTER got Albert B. excited. But Dalton thought he was way too young to work as Bond at present
really appreciate your rating for Octopussy which is a movie that I always enjoy, and your rating for on her majesty secret services which I never liked
Thats a list i can mostly agree with. The die another day fencing scene is really good and the start is one of the darkest, but it does lose a lot with the rest of the film. I always enjoyed a view to a kill Roger is to old but walken and jones are really good. But your S tiers are sound (maybe not living daylights great film but b area).
Man this is the closest to my personal ranking I've ever seen on RUclips aha Here's my personal ranking : Would love to know how other fans feel about it 25. No Time to Die 24. Spectre 23. Quantum of Solace 22. Casino Royale 21. Skyfall (I swear I'm not a Craig hater lol I actually absolutely LOVE Daniel Craig, and not only him but I just ADORE the whole cast he's got with him in these films, I just adore the actors... It's the films I dislike) 20. The World is not Enough 19. For your Eyes Only 18. Tomorrow Never Dies 17. Die Another Day (so bad that I watch it as a comical movie and it never fails to crack me up) 16. Dr.No 15. OHMSS (loads of things I love in this one especially the theme song which is my absolute favourite in the whole series, and I find myself rather impressed with Lazenby, especially when considering it was his first real acting gig. But I feel a solid chunk of the film is too slow for me and not enough action for that same chunk) 14. The Man with the Golden Gun 13. Thunderball 12. Moonraker (I could LOVE this one if it wasn't for the constant change of locations which... Yes I find really exhausting) 11. Goldeneye (top 3 villains lineup in Bond, and probably top 10 in cinema history in my opinion aha) 10. Goldfinger (my apologies lol but I do love it) 9. You Only Live Twice 8. Live and Let Die 7. Diamonds are Forever (yes lol but brave yourself you're not done with extreme subjectivity here lol) 6. The Spy who Loved me (Used to be in my top 3 but the last time I watched it I found that all the praise about Triple X being a more modern and fair portrayal of women to be totally undeserved. I feel she still is this same embarrassing cliche of women whom need help from James to survive... And this did hinder my enjoyment) 5. The Living Daylights 4. From Russia with Love 3. A View to a Kill (OMG I'm so sorry please don't skin me alive James Bond fans, but I love this one so much, actually could be tied for second) 2. Octopussy (amongst so many qualities I find to this one, I will only mention one : as good as Goldeneye in terms of its villains lineup... And so many more things) 1. License to Kill (just like the previous one I will not mention all the qualities I find to this one. I'll mention two : 1. Absolute best villains lineup in the series in my opinion, and it's saying a lot when the competition is Goldeneye and Octopussy, amongst others. 2. FINALLY we have an exciting powerful interesting female lead in Pam Bouvier, whom I think is the first one whom deserves all the praise somehow given to the writing of Triple X. Even Lupe whom gets a lot of flak, I think is better written than Triple X and most of the previous female characters in Bond, wether they were leads or supporting.) Would love to get feedback from the fandom
Timothy Dalton. Absolutely. I personnaly wish he acted in Brosnan's films. Brosnan's a great actor, but after Dalton, I just didn't bond with his 007. I liked him a lot in the Taylor of Panama, but not his Bond character, too "cute boy" for action movies in the 90's and 00's maybe.
I think that For Your Eyes Only should be no lower than a B. It is a grounded film like Dr. No and From Russia With Love but with more action. Moore turned in a good performance.
Completely agree with Spectre, just awful. God knows why they decided to make Blofeld Bonds brother after not being able to use him since the Connory days. 😂
Agree that it was not very good. Started out well, but then went just to far on the deep end. It would have been good though, if this had been Craigs final film, as he was just driving out into the sunset. I feel that DIE ANOTHER DAY< is better, but just so uncecessary.
No hate here. I respect your opinions. I also grew up with VHS copies I watched on repeat in the 90s. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service has something to say. Even as a child, I could recognize that. I hope that one day, you see what I see. And yes, Spectre is a big disappointment. Goldeneye really is the perfect nostalgia film for 90s kids. I had a fun time watching this. Thanks for the upload.

Good list. Personally, I always have had a weak spot for a few "stinkers" such as Octopussy, The man with the golden gun (Christopher Lee is just too good a villain), and The World is not Enough. Spectre and On His Majesty's Secret Service is F tier for me as well. I just don't buy the plot in either movie. Best Bond Movie: GoldenEye. Best Action: Casino Royale. Best Bond Villain: Goldfinger. Best Bond Girl: Vesper Lynn. Best Henchman: Jaws. Best Soundtrack: GoldenEye. Best Plot: Goldfinger. Best Opening Scene: GoldenEye. Best Blofeld: Donald Pleasence. Best Gadget: Ejector Seat (no, I'm not joking). Best Bond: Pierce Brosnan(!)
My two Connery's are Russia and Diamonds. That may be down to what you were saying about the grounded vs slapstick. Gotta have one of each in my Bond buffet! Roger's are all pretty silly. If I'm going for any it's Moonraker. It goes all out which I appreciate. Dalton splits the silly and serious, both are appreciated for what they provide. Brosnan is the perfect Bond. I'll watch any of them any time. Quantum gets shit but it's the most fun of the Craig era. So much of the melodrama of his era isn't for me.
Regarding Connery, FROM RUSSIA with LOVE. It has been a long time, but felt that DIAMONDS was the worst of all Connery's films. Loved Liscene to Kill, though not at first time watching it. yes and of All the Rodger Moore ones, MOONRAKER was my favorite. I also have Quantaum of SOLLACE AS one of my favorites. I remember my girl friend whispering in my ear about Craigs Bond, HE'S A SOCIOPATH. CASINO ROYALE though is for me the best Bond film of all time. Though it was not necesarrily on my first viewing.
He has 6 fims in the superior rankings. I totally agree with CASINO ROYALE, which mgiht be the greatest bond film ever. Also LISCENCE TO KILL. I took this date out, a much younger woman than myself, sadly, I did not really put my best foot forward I felt on this date, and sad, never went out with her again. I felt I was a total idiot. Over time, though that film has really impressed me, with the lead hench men of Benicio Del Toro, and the most 3 divinsional villain of all the bond films, played by Robert Davi as Sanchez. At the time, many of us, disliked Timmothy Dalton as James Bond, he was probably the most hated James Bond, even more so than George Lazenby. But in retrospective, he is one of the best, along for me Sean Connery and Daneil Craig. Other films though that I would add to those top 6 are, in his order, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, QANTAM OF SOLACE, THUNDERBALL, and yes, the one he dislikes perhaps the most, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. The two worst, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, the film that almost killed the Bond Franchise at the time. Also FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. Got great reviews, but I saw it in the theater at the time, and found it very boring .I neever went to the movie theater to see another Rodger Moore Bond film again.
It’s a complete cliche now, but Casino Royale is my number 1, I’d seen Goldfinger (on a school trip to France cos it was one of the only videos on the coach, showing my age there) and GoldenEye I wasn’t a fan of the series and by the time I was getting interested in movies in my mid teens we were at Die Another Day. I only went to see it cos I’d heard good reviews and my mum wanted to go, so I’d get not only a free ticket and a lift to the cinema. Probably the worst possible film to see with my mother, but I finally got it. I’ve actually lost count of how many times I saw it at the cinema.
Yes, nostalgia and the game affect the tastes in Goldeneye, but it truly is an amazing film and the perfect Bond movie. If nore or Brosnan's films had been like GoldenEye he would easily be considered the best era in Bond. Instead we got one legendary tier film, two middling films and wtf ever Diamonds Ar-I mean Die Another Day is.
To this day I still think Skyfall doesn’t deserve half of the praise it gets. Way too derivative of The Dark Knight, and Silva’s grand plan makes less and less sense the more you think about it. The Home Alone sequence felt cringy when the movie came out and hasn’t aged particularly well either.
I feel Skyfall will slip further down my list over time. It’s a very flawed movie masquerading as a very smart movie. Certainly phenomenal talent went into its production and all praise given to those who made it; but unfortunately the bad writing and bad story decisions cannot hide underneath a blanket of cool visuals and an Adele song.
tbf a lot of Bond villain plans are nonsense if you really think about it. Dr No wanted a rocket to fall down. OHMSS Blofeld threatened the world with total sterility so he could get a vanity title. It's very that.
Also I think Aston Martin with machine guns is so out of place. It's like something from another universe, I can't imagine there is an Aston Martin with machine guns somewhere watching realistic and grounded Casino Royale.
Agreed. Although I don't dislike Skyfail as much as I used to, it's still massively overrated. TBH - other than Casino Royale - the entire Craig era isn't very good. Too much angst melodrama and focus on Bond's hurty feelings.
Appreciate your ranking and commentary. Thanks for sharing and giving some much deserved love to Quantum & Living Daylights. And No Time To Die rightfully placed at F tier. Such an abomination of a Bond movie it’s not even worth mentioning. I refuse to include it in my Bond ranking
I get all the complaints about the Man With The Golden Gun but this movie has Sir Christopher Lee as the Villain Francisco Scaramanga my favorite Bond Villain played by who i consider the GOAT of Villain Actors and is my personal favorite Count Dracula and Finally he is Saurman in LOTR and Count Dooku in Star Wars so for me he Elevates The Man WithThe Golden Gun Just like Christopher Walken and Grace Jomes Do For A View To A Kill
Moonraker is the only thing in this world which actually make me believe in the Mandella Effect. Cause... the girl had brace, i remember laughing about it with my friend when i was a kid, the scene when they smile at each other was "Funny" cause they both had "metal" teeth... Now it's just "funny" cause she small and he's big... or both ugly... Anyone else here remember her with braces?
What about the unofficial Never Say Never Again, remake of Thunderball with an amazing cast and made at the same time as Octopussy? Before Dr No was Casino Royale, a comedy with David Niven.
“Never Say Never Again” would rank F tier. I’ve never seen the old Casino Royale and don’t really care to. I do consider “The Rock” a spiritual successor Bond film and that I’d give S tier.
I wouldn't say OHMSS is an F tier, there's things about it, but damn if it isn't far too long and far too slow. I'd love to see an edit that makes it paced just a little faster.
On her majesties secret service is S-Tier, no question 😮 For your eyes only is fantastic, what are you talking about? The spy who loved me is the best by far ❤ Goldeneye is ok, but not more 🤷
@@lesliestiers The Thing is: I' m a Roger Moore Fan What can I do ? 🤷😉 It's crazy: When I saw OHMSS first, I didn't like it all. But I loved it more every time I rewatched it since. Yes, Lazenby is not a good actor but I think he did it better than Connery in ,Diamonds'. Because you can see how tired Sean was of playing Bond at that time. Greatings from Germany 🙋
As for ‘No Time To Die’, if Phoebe Waller-Bridge wasn’t involved with it, it would be S-Tear, but she clearly had her say in two lines of dialogue that were just clear virtue signalling and it completely breaks the suspense of disbelief and takes you completely out of the film. In fact, it just makes me angry because it undermines the intelligence of the audience and are completely unnecessary. Lashana Lynch is absolutely kick ass and gives Bond as good as she gets. No problem with her being moved up to 007. How she gives Bond his 007 status back was dumb and out of character though. But there are a few lines of dialogue where you just shake your head and ask why? The rest of the film is baller though👌🏻
I will probably go to my grave defending TWINE as the best Brosnan movie. Yes, GoldenEye and TND are more iconic and fun. And Die Another Day is certianly very memorable, to put it nicely. But TWINE, to me, has one of the coolest Bond women, who also happens to be one of the most manipulative Bond villains. Elektra King is BOTH, and her demise is perfect. Bond cant help himself, but he also cant quite trust her either. Awesome music, good action, and excellent pre-title sequence, too. Yes, the final fight is lame. And yes, Denise Richards performance isnt very good. But Sophie Marceau more than makes up for it, for me.
What I needed from TWINE was more time to explore Elektra and Renard together. Remove Denise Richards character entirely and allocate that time to further fleshing out the Villains and Bonds personal stakes. Replace some of the settings, darken the tone even more, and you got a top tier Bond film in my opinion. The lyrics and power of the title song stand atop the peak of perfection but sadly the plot and characters don’t get to meet them there.
It doesn’t even matter what your rankings are for the rest of the actors, this ranking of the Connery films + 1 Lazenby film is perfect. I always appreciated FRWL and Dr No. but they don’t captivate me throughout to be higher, I never understood the craze about OHMSS, I always liked Diamonds Are Forever and just took it for what it was (and maybe not being emotionally invested in OHMSS helps me to enjoy DAF more) and I always found it weird when people didn’t rate YOLT highly as I saw it as whilst not perfect a deserving A Tier classic. Oh and of course Goldfinger is perfect
Very similar to mine, which has Tomorrow Never Dies at the top, closely followed by OHMSS, FRWL and Casino Royale. You Only Live Twice and Die Another Day are also strong with Quantum of Solace, the two Daltons and A View to a Kill closing the top ten
The Spy Who Loved Me is a dragged out contrivance of a Fleming short story. No film starring Roger Moore belongs in the S tier. His characterization of Bond as some know all, be all bon vivant instead of a gritty spy was terrible. Just my subjective opinions about a very subjective franchise. Cheers....
Goldfinger is classic but the way it treats women is awful. One of them dies just because Bond seduces her. Another has a very awkward scene in the barn. There is also a scene Bond blackmails a nurse. I mean all in all, these things just detract from enjoying the film. Moonraker has a similar awful writing, where one Bond girl exists just to please Bond and then die.
Louis Jordan is probably my favorite villain (followed by Robert Davi)
Dalton: my second favorite actor to play Bond. Both his movies are superb. Daylights is more of Bond on assignment. License - he is on a personal vendetta. Both are great. Benicio del Torres is a great henchman. I like Dalton's gritty, no nonsense, serious professional approach to the job. Living Daylights has a great soundtrack by John Barry (the last he would do for the Bond series)
Brosnan: Yeah, Goldeneye hits it out of the park (but does not crack my top 5).
So, my top 10: (5, 6, 7 are all kinda tied for the same spot)
10. Spy Who Loved Me
9. Octopussy
8. Skyfall (or Tomorrow Never Dies - depending on my mood)
7. Thunderball
6. Goldeneye
5. Casino Royale
4. Living Daylights
3. License to Kill
2. Goldfinger
1. From Russia With Love
My rankings of the actors who have played Bond:
6. Lazenby
5. Moore
4. Brosnan
3. Craig
2. Dalton
1. Connery
Anyway, this is all subjective. It was fun watching your video))
The Living Daylights is so memorable because it’s the last James Bond score composed by John Barry. It’s his best work.
One of my issues with the film was that the first half of the film for me is like the best of Sean Connery, but the second half is like the worst of Roger Moore. No, I was not a fan of Roger as James Bond, he was for me THE SAINT.
Agreed - the Mujahadeen track is the best
Underrated channel! Great video
I’m with you right there with Dalton, so underrated and wish he did a third. Love license to kill and always look forward to watching it.
55:46 you earned my respect with this one.
If they tell us in the next movie that this was just a massive Bond fever dream, I would absolutely believe it
@@sctmcg fever dream is one word for it
Did not think I would enjoy this video but man I loved it.
My top 10 would be:
1. Goldeneye
2. The Living Daylights
3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
4. For Your Eyes Only
5. From Russia With Love
6. Casino Royale
7. The Spy Who Loved Me
8. Goldfinger
9. License To Kill
10. Octopussy
Man 007 & N64 are two of my passions as well.
The golden girl in Goldfinger burned her image on my brain. That was genius!
My top five films:
1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale
3. Licence to Kill
4. Living Daylights
5. Goldeneye
Cascino rtoyale and Liscene to Kill yes.
My top five is:
Licence To Kill
Casino Royale
Octopussy
The Spy Who Loved Me
The Living Daylights
So nice to see a list that has all of these in the top tiers!
Really great work, man, so pumped to see what else you rank
Btw, where do you put Never Say Never Again?
Thanks for ranking and keeping Bond alive, even though I fear his production company has killed him off for good.
Leslie, what is the track in the outro? A remix of Surface ?
It’s an unused track my friend made when he scored a Goldeneye fan film we made last year.
@@lesliestiers sounds great! Good job both of you
Really good video on the series even though there are several here that I have differing opinions on.
And the Bond team thought they could get away with a lazy ass retcon scene, where Blofelt just says ‘It was all me!’
What a load of horse poop!

I appreciate you, thank you!
Awesome list thanks man
Agree on The Living Daylights.. I feel the same.. I rate both Timothy Dalton´ movies in S tier too.
I also like Quantum, alot. Almost as much as Casino Royale.
I consider myself only a fan of the first 16 movies.

huge Roger Moore fan
Great to see some love for the Dalton films - he was a great Bond 👍❤️
Good list and totally agree with your Daniel Craig placings
Timothy Dalton's Bond was the only one that carried the ghosts of the past within him. Roger Moore just dealt with the trauma by being a straight up predator 😂
Finally someone who appreciates tomorhy dalton.
Came here for Goldeneye. Left happy. EASILY the best Bond film. Solid list!
Yes sir! Goldeneye is king. Thanks for watching!
damn straight!
Goldeneye is S+++
That makes me happy. I was hoping this video would prompt someone to watch a Bond film, much less the entire series. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@@lesliestiers It's only 100 bucks. Thank you for the inspiration! I'm so stoked for the older ones especially.
Good job! Except "Live and Let Die" has great imagery and should move up. And so should "Diamonds are Forever". Otherwise, love your descriptions that make me chuckle! Good Luck!
Diamonds are Forever is one of my favorites because Jill St John is a top tier Bond girl.
“Live and Let Die” is ready to kick down the door to B tier. It took me awhile, but I like it a little more every time I watch. Diamonds may move up over time, but it’s already high enough for a very silly movie.
@@lesliestiers Great! Fine listening!
My ranking:
25. No Time to Die (Many reasons for this, although I don't think it's as bad as a movie like Never Say Never Again)
24. Octopussy (Just because it's in second to last place doesn't mean I can't enjoy this movie)

GoldenEye first.

On her Majesty’s secret service is my favorite😂
really appreciate your rating for Octopussy which is a movie that I always enjoy, and your rating for on her majesty secret services which I never liked
Some surprising rankings, but very entertaining. I'd love it if Calvin Dyson started dropping carpet s- and f-bombs like this in his Bond videos 😄
Live and let die my 2nd favorite moore movie
Thats a list i can mostly agree with. The die another day fencing scene is really good and the start is one of the darkest, but it does lose a lot with the rest of the film. I always enjoyed a view to a kill Roger is to old but walken and jones are really good. But your S tiers are sound (maybe not living daylights great film but b area).

Here's my personal ranking :
Would love to know how other fans feel about it
25. No Time to Die
24. Spectre
23. Quantum of Solace
22. Casino Royale
21. Skyfall
(I swear I'm not a Craig hater lol I actually absolutely LOVE Daniel Craig, and not only him but I just ADORE the whole cast he's got with him in these films, I just adore the actors... It's the films I dislike)
20. The World is not Enough
19. For your Eyes Only
18. Tomorrow Never Dies
17. Die Another Day (so bad that I watch it as a comical movie and it never fails to crack me up)
16. Dr.No
15. OHMSS (loads of things I love in this one especially the theme song which is my absolute favourite in the whole series, and I find myself rather impressed with Lazenby, especially when considering it was his first real acting gig. But I feel a solid chunk of the film is too slow for me and not enough action for that same chunk)
14. The Man with the Golden Gun
13. Thunderball
12. Moonraker (I could LOVE this one if it wasn't for the constant change of locations which... Yes I find really exhausting)
11. Goldeneye (top 3 villains lineup in Bond, and probably top 10 in cinema history in my opinion aha)
10. Goldfinger (my apologies lol but I do love it)
9. You Only Live Twice
8. Live and Let Die
7. Diamonds are Forever (yes lol but brave yourself you're not done with extreme subjectivity here lol)
6. The Spy who Loved me (Used to be in my top 3 but the last time I watched it I found that all the praise about Triple X being a more modern and fair portrayal of women to be totally undeserved. I feel she still is this same embarrassing cliche of women whom need help from James to survive... And this did hinder my enjoyment)
5. The Living Daylights
4. From Russia with Love
3. A View to a Kill (OMG I'm so sorry please don't skin me alive James Bond fans, but I love this one so much, actually could be tied for second)
2. Octopussy (amongst so many qualities I find to this one, I will only mention one : as good as Goldeneye in terms of its villains lineup... And so many more things)
1. License to Kill (just like the previous one I will not mention all the qualities I find to this one. I'll mention two :
Even Lupe whom gets a lot of flak, I think is better written than Triple X and most of the previous female characters in Bond, wether they were leads or supporting.)
Would love to get feedback from the fandom
fuck yeah for putting octopussy and a view to a kill up the top
Timothy Dalton. Absolutely. I personnaly wish he acted in Brosnan's films. Brosnan's a great actor, but after Dalton, I just didn't bond with his 007. I liked him a lot in the Taylor of Panama, but not his Bond character, too "cute boy" for action movies in the 90's and 00's maybe.
I stand firm with you in that spot for GE!!!!!!!
Checked out of the list after 20 seconds 😂
I think that For Your Eyes Only should be no lower than a B. It is a grounded film like Dr. No and From Russia With Love but with more action. Moore turned in a good performance.
Completely agree with Spectre, just awful. God knows why they decided to make Blofeld Bonds brother after not being able to use him since the Connory days. 😂
Agree that it was not very good. Started out well, but then went just to far on the deep end. It would have been good though, if this had been Craigs final film, as he was just driving out into the sunset. I feel that DIE ANOTHER DAY< is better, but just so uncecessary.
Yes, definitely goldeneye, and as you say about the role for each actor, this definitely fits Pierce Brosnan the best
I laughed out loud at the M rant lmao
YOU OWE ME ONE MILLION BUCKS!!!!! Man I love goldfinger and now I’m going to watch goldeneye
Jaws was popular with kids after Spy who loved me, so they made him even more kids friendly and funny in Moonraker
1:14 And remember: If you go to a beach..always wear a camouflage suit (or a tuxido)
I’ve actually lost count of how many times I saw it at the cinema.
you've got a bit of a Bill Burr thing goin on
21:57 - Roger Moore's bond summed up in 5 seconds
Im one of those rare fans that likes living daylights over licension to kill
I would put from russica with love at A or S tier
Skyfall is visually and technically absolutelu beautiful movie. Probably the best one out from all the Bonds.
excellent
Moonraker's Bond girl SUCKS ? Fits her name, then !!!
Tracey alone makes on our secret service above a f tier
Yeah I always say to myself Moonraker could have been much better.
What about the unofficial Never Say Never Again, remake of Thunderball with an amazing cast and made at the same time as Octopussy? Before Dr No was Casino Royale, a comedy with David Niven.
I enjoyed NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN very much. Just did not like Moore as Bond.
“Never Say Never Again” would rank F tier. I’ve never seen the old Casino Royale and don’t really care to. I do consider “The Rock” a spiritual successor Bond film and that I’d give S tier.
time to rank the bond songs dude...
I wouldn't say OHMSS is an F tier, there's things about it, but damn if it isn't far too long and far too slow. I'd love to see an edit that makes it paced just a little faster.
How the hell does On Her Majesty's Secret Service get an F? It's one of the best films in the franchise.
I was not bored by NTtD. For me, the worst Bond movie is "Diamonds Are Forever." Best is "Casino Royale" (2006).
On her majesties secret service is S-Tier, no question 😮
For your eyes only is fantastic, what are you talking about?
The spy who loved me is the best by far ❤
Goldeneye is ok, but not more 🤷
I think you should make a tier list. I’ll watch it.
@@lesliestiers
The Thing is: I' m a Roger Moore Fan
What can I do ? 🤷😉
It's crazy: When I saw OHMSS first, I didn't like it all. But I loved it more every time I rewatched it since.
Yes, Lazenby is not a good actor but I think he did it better than Connery in ,Diamonds'. Because you can see how tired Sean was of playing Bond at that time.
Greatings from Germany 🙋
Spectre came out at the same time as the Marvel Films, that all did a fantastic job of foreshadowing each other and hinting towards a deeper connection in later in the franchise. Something Marvel planned ‘years’ ahead!
And the Bond team thought they could get away with a lazy ass retcon scene, where Blofelt just says ‘It was all me!’
What a load of horse poop!
Moonraker came out 2 years before the first Space Shuttle launch. How about that for an impressive fact?
Interesting that you ding OHMSS for some of the same things you love about TLD and CR.
Name one thing
Octopussy A - seriously? Come on...
Of course, Octopussy is fantastic 👍👍👍
Putting OHMSS where it belongs puts your tier list in the S tier. Dreadful movie.
Tracy dies in the novel. So, the screenwriters were just following the source and not trying to bring melancholy to the film.
Wtf die another day at B? Bold.
