Hey Bullets & Blockbusters. That was an amazing and interesting story of Quentin Tarantino's unmade "Casino Royale" film that you covered. Great job! I have another suggestion for you. Have you ever seen Bill Bixby's and Lou Ferrigno's "The Incredible Hulk" TV series from the 1970's? Well, after the series got cancelled, there were some television films that tried to not only revive the series, but also set up possible spin-off shows for Thor, Daredevil, She-Hulk, and even Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man to expand on its franchise. Unfortunately, these projects never got made. But I'm wondering if you can do a video that covers Bill Bixby's and Lou Ferrigno's "The Incredible Hulk" expanded universe like: - Eric Allan Kramer's "Thor" TV show spin-off - Rex Smith's "Daredevil" TV show spin-off - "She-Hulk" TV show spin-off - 1980's Nicholas Hammond's "The Amazing Spider-Man" revival (crossover with "The Incredible Hulk" TV series) - 1990's "The Revenge of Incredible Hulk" film with Gerald Di Pego's script Once again, I hope to see more of your projects. Take care.
Tarantino also said some years ago that he would like to make a more faithful adaptation of First Blood with Adam Driver as Rambo and Kurt Russell as the sheriff, that would be funny as his "Final film".
The 2006 version is amazing, but the idea of Tarantino doing his own retro version is a tantalizing idea given how successful his other period films have been
I've heard some crazy stories about producers before, but Ratoff almost takes the cake. As for the Tarrantino version, yeah, I don't think we missed anything.
I wonder why he stole the money. What was it for, and why did he think God would be appeased if he bought the film rights to the first novel he read a review of?
Very cool James Bond throwback. I’ve never seen that parody version. I might have to track it down someday just for the chance to see it. Your videos are always so interesting and informative.
This is one of those where I’m glad it wasn’t done differently. Not only one of my favorite movies of all time but hands down the best Bond film ever made. Yeah I said it go ahead and fight me over it
Tarantino's account of this project is very bizarre, and I'd argue at times crosses the line between exaggeration and outright lie. The reason he's associated with Casino Royale is because Miramax tried to get the rights to the book in the mid 90s (which wasn't an uncommon thing for studios to try and do incidentally). They presumably wanted Tarantino to direct if they ever got it or perhaps Tarantino expressed some interest in the idea. They couldn't attain them due to a deal EON had with the Fleming estate and nothing ever came of it. That's literally as far as his Casino Royale ever went. For the next ten years Tarantino would make some very strange claims about this project during interviews under the idea that it was his 'unmade Bond movie' - and keep in mind this was never an official project. Talking about the novel in 1997, he claimed the story ends with Bond killing Vesper (he doesn't, she kills herself), that Fleming's Bond is some sort of Mickey Spillane type character (I wouldn't quite say that, although it's relatively subjective), that the book takes place in the 60s (it doesn't, it was written in the 50s), and he even implied the novel used first person narration (it doesn't). I personally don't believe he's ever read the book. Fast forward to 2004/2005 and Brosnan's contract as Bond is not renewed, the rights to Fleming's first novel are back with EON, and Casino Royale is the next planned Bond movie. This is where we get Tarantino's idea of using an older Brosnan set after Majesty's. It's completely hypothetical and nothing more than him spitballing during interviews. Clearly it wasn't how he'd have approached this project in the mid-90s. The idea to adapt Casino Royale had nothing to do with him despite his claims, and he's never been considered or approached to direct an official Bond movie as far as I'm aware. As the video states there's a long and drawn out backstory to the rights, and the Casino Royale we got was an attempt to revitalise the franchise and go back to the character's roots. I'm a fan of many of Tarantino's movies, but it's laughable to try and claim such a minimal association with Bond directly impacted the franchise.
Great video man, you're the best!! I wonder if you can look into other james bond's unproduced scripts like warhead 2000, which would have been a second remake of thunderball, and alfred hitchcock's version of 007. I think they would be great in a video!!
@@Bulletsandblockbustersawesome, I work overnights in a hospital, so I end up listening to Long form video essays a good amount. Keep up the good work!
Charles Feldman's Casino Royale went through a lot of script drafts to do it as serious before deciding to do it as a spoof. Feldman had a lot more money than Saltzman and Broccoli so hired the 'Shakespeare Of Hollywood' Ben Hecht to write several drafts. All were apparently quite dark, and actually would have struggled to have got past the censors. It has been said that they were close to the 2006 film, despite being written in the early 60's. Feldman had legendary macho drama director Howard Hawks set to helm. Supposedly Hawks dropped out after seeing Dr No and deciding that he couldn't compete with EON. EON had considered doing Casino Royale after Thunderball, as a collaboration much as that film ws with an existing rights holder. After EON bailed, Feldman went behind their backs and offered the film to Connery, to lend some authenticity and false continuity. Connery said he wouldn't do it for less than a Million Dollars, a then colossal figure, that only Elizabeth Taylor had been paid for Cleopatra. Feldman baulked at that and it's said this was when he decided to make it a spoof to "ruin" the EON films. However rather than critique the EON films or make them laughable, his comedy instead veers all over the place in its attempts to do jokes and skits, coming across as just a desperate laugh attempt. The film went over budget and cost more than any Bond film at that time. Feldman said it would have been cheaper to pay Connery a Million Dollars to do a serious film after all.
Casino Royale as is, is by far my favorite Bond film. But I would like to maybe see a non-continuity Tarantino / Brosnan take on the film. That would be interesting.
Casino Royale for Brosnan's Bond could've been the perfect send off. Just imagine this: Bond finally meets a woman who's interesting enough for James to consider retirement, and eventually... He does retire, gets married and settles down, thus putting an end to his highly paced spy days. And his wife isn't shot dead like in the closing act of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". It could've been the perfect farewell to Pierce Brosnan's 007 days in my opinion
I loved Brosnan’s take on Bond His movies were very hit and miss, but Brosnan was the epitome of charm and mystique with a dark edge when you needed it.
@ I always loved The World is Not Enough and Goldeneye. Tomorrow Never Dies was fun, but felt weaker than those two. Craig’s Bond was solid, but I didn’t love his movies. Casino Royale was great but some of his others felt more personal for Bond which felt like a strange creative choice to me.
@ TND was seen as a bit of a non-event at the time but history has shown it to be a great standalone Bond. No silly arc shoehorned in, just a good flick with some great action, gadgets and a solid story. That’s what the 007 series to do best. Used.
I really like Tarantino. Been a fan since seeing RESERVOIR DOGS twice in the theater while in college. But the CASINO ROYALE we got is (along with THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) a perfect action movie.
Interesting. As a person who has all of the Bond, and Quentin Tarantino movies, i couldn't picture QT making a Bond movie. I hope he makes a Vietnam war movie though. The dialogue alone would be epic!
Future recommendation for a version of Hannibal that was supposed to reunite Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins for a true proper Silence of the Lambs sequel.
I don't know how true this is, but I remember seeing an interview back around the time the film came out with Barbara Broccoli that their reason for not using Quentin Tarantino was because he wasn't a member of the director's union and they're obligated to use a unionized director.
I don't like the idea of setting the film in the past, but Daniel Craig is the only Bond actor I absolutely despise, so I would've preferred ANY film that prevented the worst Bond from ruining almost two decades of the franchise.
Giving any bond film an R rating or an artsy director like Tarantino would have destroyed the franchise. Bond has only ever needed to be PG-13 due to the invention of the rating and the standards changing but he works best in the realm of PG-13, showing less but leaving more to the imagination, and allowing bond to have more violence, language, and sex goes against the fundamentals of the franchise and would result in moving away from the basics of bond onto a more violent and unrecognizable bond. And bond is centered around simplicity in filmmaking styles so trying to fix something that isn’t broken with an artsy director would wreck the franchise.
I’m genuinely glad Tarantino never made his version of Casino Royale. I don’t want to see Uma Thurman as Vesper Lynd. Nothing against her but I loved Eva Green’s performance. Plus Sam Jackson as Felix Leiter??😂😂😂
Here's a good idea for a future video: *Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO/ZORRO* The 2019 film adaptation of Quentin Tarantino & Matt Wagner's 2015 crossover comic book sequel to *"Django Unchained"* (2012) with Jerrod Carmichael as Quentin's co-script writer. Actors Jamie Foxx & Antonio Banderas were to return as Django Freeman & Don Alejandro de la Vega aka "Zorro" who met in the American Southwest and would team up to help save the local indigenous people from slavery.
Hopefully Tarantino makes a Spy movie that he wanted or his last movie. I believe he will make more tbh.. I want to see a gritty take outside of bond and see him do a spy movie. That would be awesome
I love the Bond franchise, but I love hearing these rejected ideas even more. They sound so intriguing and would often wonder what if we would've gotten those versions instead.
Skyfall singlehandly brought back the allure of shaving with a straight razor. Yeah, one scene and everyone was looking to buy one or a barber that used one.
I’m torn on this. Although as described, this would have been phenomenal to see come to fruition, the EON Casino Royale we got is my favorite Bond film of all time and a masterpiece in it’s own right. Just hoping that Bond 26 continues to explore and push the character in new directions that takes risks while still being faithful to its legacy.
Brosnan didn't need to do a 5th film if DAD was rewritten much better post Bond's capture/release - even then the pre title music action sequence (Moon's Base) would have been changed in my mind. No Jinx, Graves, Frost, R, etc...or freakshow Madonna; However I would keep the two Moon characters, rewrite Zao as an ally (a relative of Wai Lin) plus make Bond completely rogue; fading into the shadows towards the end - instilling a sense of ambiguity as to whether Bond is either killed or 'killed' off. Brosnan IMO still had the acting chops and intensity to portray a hard arse, old school Bond (not Dalton or Craig level), but in a way that still retained some of the Brosnan Bond wit, charm and character.
It would have featured a 20 minute scene of Bond, Vesper, Felix and Mathis debating how much they tip bartenders and card dealers. And that would have been perfectly fine!
Another actor that was in serious contention at the time was former ER actor Goran Visnjic. Word is the final 3 actors in contention were Henry Cavhil, Daniel Craig and Goran Visnjic
Speaking of which, ER, absolutely set the standard for wearing out its welcome, and, when it had finally run its course, after a, WGA, strike, it was granted an, indefensible, extra season because, "it had earned that right," the only person happy about that was Noah Wyle, NCIS, broke, The, Gunsmoke Threshold, canceled, three, spin-offs, had, 1,000 episodes, across all formats, the departure of Mark Harmon, and, the death of David McCallum, insane popularity, aside, this show is, The, Poster Child, for the fact that true greatness is knowing when to leave.
Id rather anyone have the reigns of 007 over Barbara Brocolli. She doesnt deserve 007 she was just born in the family and doesnt care about who the character really is and what the fans want. She rather kill off masculinity then work on a diveristy lead Bond mlvie
I'm about as big a Bond fan as you can imagine with a lot of respect for the traditions in the making of the Bond films, but I have to say it pains me that they didn't entrust this to Tarantino - I genuinely think he would've made one of the most celebrated Bond films in the entire franchise - They just weren't willing to take the risk, such a shame. And Brosnan would've smashed it with Tarantino's vision, I'm sure of it.

IT WOULDVE BEEN A SEQUAL TO OHMSS
WHAT
The Bond girls would be showing their feet of
Hey Bullets & Blockbusters.
But I'm wondering if you can do a video that covers Bill Bixby's and Lou Ferrigno's "The Incredible Hulk" expanded universe like:
- Eric Allan Kramer's "Thor" TV show spin-off
- Rex Smith's "Daredevil" TV show spin-off
- "She-Hulk" TV show spin-off
- 1980's Nicholas Hammond's "The Amazing Spider-Man" revival (crossover with "The Incredible Hulk" TV series)
- 1990's "The Revenge of Incredible Hulk" film with Gerald Di Pego's script
Once again, I hope to see more of your projects. Take care.
I can def look into it! Thnx!
And a Doctor Strange series as well.
Can’t wait to watch this once I’m off work!! You’re the best man
Enjoy!
I'm at work right now watching this!!😅😅
I am working on next week’s video watching this
@@Bulletsandblockbusters keep it coming big Homie
Very cool James Bond throwback. I’ve never seen that parody version. I might have to track it down someday just for the chance to see it. Your videos are always so interesting and informative.
Thanks!
This is one of those where I’m glad it wasn’t done differently. Not only one of my favorite movies of all time but hands down the best Bond film ever made. Yeah I said it go ahead and fight me over it
If he directed, if would have a lot good bloody action and curses. It might cool
That was something else that put off EON. R Rated. They needed the Bond films to stay PG-13
Somewhere out there is a universe where Henry Cavill has played James Bond.
It is a bit crazy that it's not going to happen in ours.
@Bulletsandblockbusters Made a small edit to the second sentence and it took away the heart you gave me. Appreciated all the same. 🙂
Great video man, you're the best!! I wonder if you can look into other james bond's unproduced scripts like warhead 2000, which would have been a second remake of thunderball, and alfred hitchcock's version of 007. I think they would be great in a video!!
💯
Anybody else listen to these more than watch the actual video? BB, have you ever thought about making longer, audio only versions of these?
I’ve considered a podcast
@@Bulletsandblockbustersawesome, I work overnights in a hospital, so I end up listening to Long form video essays a good amount. Keep up the good work!
Thnx!
11:16 - If there's ever a bio film on Christopher Nolan, I know who I'd cast.
I hope Tarantino casts Brosnan in his next movie...
I loved Brosnan’s take on Bond
His movies were very hit and miss, but Brosnan was the epitome of charm and mystique with a dark edge when you needed it.
he did a very good job of embodying Connery, Moore and Dalton in one portrayal while looking the most Bond like.
He had three good ones and one bad one. Better batting average than Daniel Craig who had two good ones and three bad ones.
Used.
Love the channel. I know you mostly do larger movies, but what about "What could've been National Treasure 3" or the plans for a 3rd Ghost Rider film?
Thnx I’ll look into them
I really like Tarantino. Been a fan since seeing RESERVOIR DOGS twice in the theater while in college. But the CASINO ROYALE we got is (along with THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) a perfect action movie.
I stopped watching the bond films after Casino Royale.. bring back Brosnan
Interesting. As a person who has all of the Bond, and Quentin Tarantino movies, i couldn't picture QT making a Bond movie. I hope he makes a Vietnam war movie though. The dialogue alone would be epic!
I've always considered Everything or Nothing as Brosnan's 5th outing.
Watching these content gives me of little knowledge of unmade movies
I would've LOVED to see this version of Casino Royale!
a Tarantino script set in the 60s would still somehow have annoying pop culture references
I would’ve loved to see that
It could’ve been such a cool prequel to the Bond series
Great research bro. Keep it up
Thnx man!
Future recommendation for a version of Hannibal that was supposed to reunite Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins for a true proper Silence of the Lambs sequel.
Gregory Ratoff's story would be a great catalyst for a Bond movie
Casino Royale is the best Bond film
I don't know how true this is, but I remember seeing an interview back around the time the film came out with Barbara Broccoli that their reason for not using Quentin Tarantino was because he wasn't a member of the director's union and they're obligated to use a unionized director.
I want to see what tmnt 3 would have been if it wasn't bad
I don't like the idea of setting the film in the past, but Daniel Craig is the only Bond actor I absolutely despise, so I would've preferred ANY film that prevented the worst Bond from ruining almost two decades of the franchise.
Ten seconds in and I already knew this was gonna get nuts
Let this man cook, my day always gets better with a B&B drop.
Appreciate that my friend!
After the Craig era you really gotta appreciate how Bondian the Pierce movies were. Just great !
Pierce movies awfull to rewatch
Sam Worthington Says He Didn’t Get The Role Of James Bond Back In 2006 After An “Awful Audition.”
Sam Worthington was basically Colin Farrell, Hollywood tried their darnedest to make him happen, unfortunately, he was just never going to happen.
Casino Royale was also adapted into an episode of Climax! in 1954. It featured American secret agent Jimmy Bond.
One of my favorite cinematic characters, Bond, James Bond.
I’d like to see Brosnan as Bond one more time. Old man Bond, sorta like this franchises version of “Logan”.
Here's a good idea for a future video:
*Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO/ZORRO*
The 2019 film adaptation of
Quentin Tarantino & Matt Wagner's
2015 crossover comic book sequel
to *"Django Unchained"* (2012)
with Jerrod Carmichael as Quentin's
co-script writer.
Actors Jamie Foxx & Antonio Banderas
were to return as Django Freeman
& Don Alejandro de la Vega aka "Zorro"
who met in the American Southwest
and would team up to help save the local indigenous people from slavery.
Hopefully Tarantino makes a Spy movie that he wanted or his last movie. I believe he will make more tbh.. I want to see a gritty take outside of bond and see him do a spy movie. That would be awesome
I’d love to see an espionage/spy thriller from Tarantino in general. This could’ve been a great addition to the Bond franchise.
At one time he was planning a movie trilogy based on Len Deighton's Game, Set And Match trilogy of spy novels.
I love the Bond franchise, but I love hearing these rejected ideas even more. They sound so intriguing and would often wonder what if we would've gotten those versions instead.
I seriously want a Tarantino James Bond film now.
That parkour scene was so good
Tarrinto is American and don't they own enough in cinema? They've always said Bond doesn't need to be British but not North American.
5:46 Parkour!
The two biggest what if's: this one and the Roger Moore version of "The Living Daylights".
Skyfall singlehandly brought back the allure of shaving with a straight razor.
Yeah, one scene and everyone was looking to buy one or a barber that used one.
Now that would have been crazy!
Brosnan deserved CR
This film would've been amazing, though the Craig film is really good
Executive Meddling's heartless, unquestionably.
Would’ve really loved to see Logan as Bond kinda like patch ❤
God i would have loved to see Tarantino's version of Casino Royale. Especially with Pierce Brosnan back as Bond.
GOT THE COFFEE READY BOSS... but im streaming and hope you dont get mad but i want to show your skillz bossman lol LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Quentin Tarantino's version sounds soooooooo much better than what we have gotten.
Apparently he lost out as he couldn't master an English accent.
@davidjames579 Unfortunately, predictable, development, unquestionably.
Id rather anyone have the reigns of 007 over Barbara Brocolli. She doesnt deserve 007 she was just born in the family and doesnt care about who the character really is and what the fans want. She rather kill off masculinity then work on a diveristy lead Bond mlvie
They need to give Cavill a run immediately
Too old now unfortunately.
I was aware of Tarantino's Casino Royale plans back in the day.
Please make a video about original plans for "True lies 2"!
