Here's the thing. If you want to innovate, and try to create a more affordable submarine, or anything like that, fine. As long as it's your own life, you're risking and/or test pilots who know what they're getting into and accept the risk. Where he crossed the line was inviting other random people to join him. Never mind the money they had to shell out for that "privilege".

Forgot how good this was. Very atmospheric series. CGI doesn’t have the same impact...just another 3d animation series, whereas, the original could be admired for the clever use of props and puppets.

I was born in 64 so u grew up with Thundebirds Stingray and Scarlett on Saturday mornings for years then re runs in the 90s None of my generation ever watched the new Thunderbirds because it looked computer generated where the originals felt like you could touch them see real smoke real explosions see puppets sweat and feel tension The new series felt like a cartoon. Team police actually brought puppetry from the dead and when the new series was announced prayed it would be puppets but unfortunately it wasnt to be .

"That was a bit abrupt". My reaction also. But you can't claim to be a genuine Captain Scarlet "generation". You're too goddam young. Captain Scarlet might get angry at such a claim. If he's been on the sauce ... and has one of his MANY laser guns availble ... well, just look out. And, of course, DUCK.

I LOVE captain Scarlet, both original puppet series and modern CGI version. both scared the life out of me both as a kid in the 1970's, and with the even darker modern series. I have the original late 1960' Captain Scarlet Annuals, and was always puzzled by who the officer was in off-white in the group photo around Colonel White's command chair, as I thought only Col. White wore white, only to later find out is was Doctor Fawn, a less well known character, later replaced by Doctor Gold in the later CGI series. As kids in the late 1960's and early 1970's, we had so many TV series that today would have to be toned down or have trigger warnings pasted all over the start, as they were extremely violent, dark, and had body counts that most war movies would struggle to keep up with today. I never really liked Captain Blue for some reason, but always wanted to see more of the other Captains (Captain Indigo was hardly ever mentioned, let alone seen in the puppet version, and only once in the CGI series), especially Captain Ochre, as his biography in the comic book Annual was pretty dynamic. In the comic book annual they also introduced Major Emerald, Lieutenants Gold, Sepia and Brass, and showed the Spectrum security guards too. TV 21 comic also introduced other Captains from different areas of the UK, created for the fans, which was wonderful at the time, as most of us kids wanted our own Spectrum Agent to play in our games. Oddly enough, Captain Scarlet was the only Anderson Productions puppet series to have puppet heads that were scaled to the right size for the bodies, according to Gerry Anderson's autobiography. Still love to watch both versions of this, even at my age of almost 60 years, and it still gets me excited to this day. I love how they now have female Spectrum Agents in the CGI series, with Captain Ochre now being an Irish woman, but at least they kept the Angels in character. Thanks for posting this video, as it shows so much honesty about the classic puppet show, and the difference in the content from way back then to what kids see today.

The main issue I have with TAG, is that the rescues in them lack the same level of 'danger' the 60s show had. There's too much in the way of cracking one-liners instead of taking the threat of death at hand very seriously. Compare both versions of the Fireflash landing for example. TAG having Thunderbird 2 casually come in at the end to grab the craft just makes all that stuff with the Elevator Cars beforehand completely unnecessary. Very poor writing frankly. Additionally the new craft feel a little too gimmicky (Thunderbird 3 especially) like they were intentionally designed to be made into toys, unlike that industrial kitbash look the originals possessed. Overall, I think if Gerry Anderson had lived long enough, I'm pretty sure he would have made a better modenized Thunderbirds. More in the vein of NCS.

I watched this when it first came out and it didn't shock me even though I was a young child. I found it exciting and sometimes scary, but then I knew it was a television show. Seem nowadays, we're raising kids that are being badly affected by social media and various ideological groups seeking power over us which results in kids being told they should be scared/offended/paranoid about anything even if it's mildy challenging.

Absolutely no way should any of Gerry Andersons masterpieces be 'rebooted' The originals were the best. Never bothered with the animated reboots of Captain Scarlet or Thunderbirds. If Gerry and his team thought all this stuff up brand new, what's wrong with storywriters/creators today? Gerry didn't make reboots. Some AI already coming through looks good, with some imagination alot is possible but lets have some new ideas. Right about Captain Scarlet being dark. Never noticed it at the time first watching it as a kid. Our favourite parts of Gerry's stuff was all the explosions. We loved all that and got some in every episode, never disappointed! Looking at it now with the humans being the 'bad' guys essentially for starting intergalactic war was a genius move. Never been done before IIRC. All the Angel pilot being hot girls, lots of stuff, espionage etc. super stuff! Really miss the imagination of Gerry Anderson. Made adult content for kids that adults could enjoy too. I love watching them now at 56 with a bit of a tear in my eye as his projection of the future was always eventually hopeful but in reality never realised. RIP Gerry Anderson 1929-2012

Captain Scarlet (modelled on Alain Delon RIP me thinks) was my first ever crush. Pupils at my school thought my dad was in Spectrum as he was Captain Silver and wore a uniform. First watched these shows in B&W as we didn't get a colour tv until the Olympics in 1976. Check out Fireball XL5, Stingray and Joe 90 too. Gerry Anderson RIP was cremated near where I live and I recall seeing his funeral on tv news.

We grew up watching cowboys being roasted alive on wagon-wheels by ‘Indians’. At least the gratuitous beatings and shootings in Captain Scarlett weren’t worse than that, but it was still quite scary. Shortly after that, Doctor Who got a lot more violent under Jon Pertwee and then Tom Baker.

Born in '67, I grew up watching Captain Scarlet. I used to love the opening titles & pic's. Best Gerry Anderson show imo, terying to think what else was around. Ah yes, Joe 90, Aqua Maria, Thunderbirds, the Lady Penelope show (can't remember where that came from). But Captain Scarlet was just, well, much more sinister & in those days kids didn't need councilling. And no, don't CGI it, it remains a classic series that should be left in its original format. (Just like my favourite film, Json & The Argonauts. That was fairly bloody too. But for its day it was & still is amazing.) Quick sidenote: Remember watching the original Salem's Lot whilst still at school, over two nights it scared the living daylights out of us, but we watched the 2nd part. I have that on DVD & it still packs a punch. This is the voice of the Mysterons saying see ya.

I watched the original series in Australia. I had an SPV (Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle) Dinky toy that had a missile launcher. (In the show they were hidden away in strategic places e.g. old barns, ready to be activated.) One of my most prized possesions back then. I remember I was fascinated by the show, particularly that Captain scarlet was a baddie who was resurrected and bcame an indestructible goodie. (I still say to my childen who are around 30 now...
