If we only compare the "urban area" of both cities, Tokyo has 9.4 millon people, Chongqing has 8.2 million people. Tokyo is still larger, but both cities are not the largest cities in the world. Yokohama, the second-largest city in Japan by population and the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture, is also included as a part of Greater Tokyo.
      Population: 38 million
      2. Tokyo Metropolis
Extent: Official city, containing Tokyo proper, the Tama region, and the Tokyo Islands (Nanpō Islands). It has the same administrative status as a prefecture (similar to state or province or region in other countries).

China's prefecture-level city is basically a city of cities. A typical prefecture-level city generally contains several districts, several counties, and a couple of county-level cities. It is more like a metropolitan area rather than a true "city".
For most countries, there are cities, outside of these cities, the rest of the country is made of vast sparsely populated rural areas, but China and India have too many people, so they have groups of cities crowded together as mega cities.

The population density is still quite low tho, you can see that obviously despite the huge population the city has, it's size overshadowed all
I'm saying this from a country where a "city" can have population density twice as low as there (our country is small, so the cities' size and population should be around that of a Chinese town, but instead they make the size bigger than a district but population same as a village)😂😂😂😂😂

It is easy to find out how to pronounce it correctly, such as Google Translate, etc. OMG! So ignorant but you do get a lot of comments, but it is bad and do not genuinely give you more traffic. For example, no subscription here.

  • @bajaboy27

What? You don't make sense, the Urban area is just 8.2 million people, by urban we're talking, the Metro area which includes other neighboring cities and towns.
Now there's 32 million in a region the size of Switzerland where this city happens to be the county seat, so in China they just add everyone that lives in that region and say it's the largest city in the world by population. China and their obsession with being recognized as a country of good morals. 😂

It is actually the most populous metropolitan area in the world.
      There are 3 Tokyos:
      1. Greater Tokyo
Extent: Metropolitan area, containing Tokyo Metropolis plus nearby satellite cities from three prefectures: Saitama Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, and Kanagawa Prefecture.
      Population: 14 million
      3. Tokyo (Tokyo proper)
Extent: Urban area, containing 23 special wards. This is the real Tokyo city.
      Population: 9.4 million

  • @angelaliu9827
    @angelaliu9827 Год назад

"Chong ching" not king. Also, a lot of people consider the Guangzhou metropolitan area as the world's most populated. Even though it houses the 3rd, 4th, 13th, and 14th largest cities by Chinese standards. With a combined population of 65 million. China's population is just large. For example, the 50th largest city in the US - Wichita only has 400,000 people, whereas the 50th largest city in China, Baotou is 5 times larger.
