Toots Thielemans & WDR BIG BAND - Killer Joe | 100th Anniversary

Toots Thielemans plays "Killer Joe" by Benny Golson on harmonica together with the WDR BIG BAND under the direction of bandleader and arranger Henk Meutgeert. Another solo is played by Ludwig Nuss on trombone. Jeff Hamilton plays as guest on drums. Recorded at the Bühl Jazz Festival in 2004.
In memory of the great jazz musician Jean Baptiste "Toots" Thielemans, who died in 2016 and would have celebrated his 100th birthday on April 29, 2022.

For sure this is great music, but I can't deny myself to compare this tune with that performed by Norrbotten Big Band featuring the composer him self, Benny Golson that was touring the Sweden jazz scenes this summer, despite his age at 90 year. This time I vote on the later. Benny told about the story behind "Killer Joe" and that his wife wasn't particular keen on it until the money come in. Then she loved it! Sorry Toots, I like you too and the band of course.
