  • A Facebook Live video that shows an unrehearsed attempt to do classic marbling on leather.
The carrageenan and inks were acquired on Amazon and is made by Jacquard.
To see more you can look at my blog post about Marbling on Leather at

The kit in the video was bought here:

And you can pick up a 'too much yellow' by dipping a paper towel in the middle of the colour and drawing it back up. Less is more...better to take a little bit then go back for more with a clean towel to take up more if needed. Beautiful effect!

No, unfortunately the inks I used does not work on anything but vegtan tooling leather.
The water is thickened with Carageenan (I think they make that from seaweed?) and the inks are marbling inks made by Jacquard.

K=Love to know where you found the white leather at.

It is normal new vegtan leather that has not oxidized too much. So not white leather per se, just lighter vegtan.

What is your measurement of carageenan to water?

Pretty much what I found on the package I got it in. It was in the region of two teaspoons per 4 liters (1 gallon)

That was the carrageenan that was not properly dissolved. You will see it is not there in the next video.

Dried out on top of water? Do you know how much that can mess with a sleepy brain??? On water, dried out??... It must have had too much alcohol or Japan Drier in the mix. Perhaps adding an extender to it will give you more open time. Thanks for the video, I would never have thought of trying this on leather, even though I've marbled paper and cloth a bit more than a few years ago!

It was an out of the box kit - the inks turned into a plastic sheet before I could swirl it........
