- After three and a half days with the 2022 Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance, we share our overall impressions and answer the burning question: is it just an IS with a V8, is it really an IS F, or is it something different all together?
Bruh. LSD. Reliable NA big V8. Reliable trans. Fantastic sound system. Heated and cooled seats. Red interior. Touchscreen android / apple car play. Super cool unique gage cluster. Sunroof. What more do you honestly want. It's so perfect.
HUD would be nice…panoramic moonroof perhaps…ambient lighting…powered rear view mirrors and USB ports in the rear seats. I still love my 2021 IS 350 without the aforementioned, but those extras would be ideal.
@@alpadilla7343
Those extras are not for someone who's looking for a daily drifting machine...
Lexus put the money where it matters with this one, and it's the powertrain and handling.
@@yousef.al-assaf you’re not wrong. It’s such a great ride that a bit more luxe would kick it to the next level and I am here for it and willing to pay, unfortunately not offered. Regardless, agree with your comment and while other vehicles breakdown on the side of the road, I’m very happy to own mine.
@@alpadilla7343
Glad you're enjoying yours man. Just having this V8 be fitted inside a compact sedan in 2022 is a miracle haha.
I definitely agree with you too about adding the extras to the IS. It's already a special car that needs just a bit more as you said to be nearly perfect. It's just that Lexus and all other car manufacturers are too focused now on SUVs. Hopefully the next gen IS will be perfected.
The weak ass interior that’s what we want. It’s no perfect
My everyday car was the very 1st Lexus to have a V8 in a sport sedan, the 1998 Lexus GS400, a 4.0 V8.
I'm about to hit 200k miles, still love driving it everyday!!
the interior is still awesome. its simple, it works, and its a japanese design. the new screen was a must have and they delivered.
I love the tenor of this no frills, this is what it is, review. I planned to get this car as soon as it was announced, no matter what anyone else said. However...I am glad the response has been overwhelmingly positive and that 'Tony' will not be the only member in the IS500 Fan Club. :-) Nice review.
Same boat, when they confirmed the V8... I was sold and called my dealership. I already liked the IS350 but adding the 2UR-GSE was enough. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours once you get it
I was trying to figure out why this review was so easy to watch, and now that you mentioned it, his voice is definitely a big plus. Great voice.
It was weighed in at 3980 lbs by Motor Trend so it is pretty much the same weight as the 4000 lbs RCF and RCF is a bit shorter and has better weight distribution. Also, RCF is so much more track oriented/driver focused (brakes, suspension, tires, wheels, coolers etc.). RCF has a heavier steering wheel in order to build more confidence in high speed turns and corrections so that is where the feel of heaviness comes from. That is where the extra money for the RCF goes.
.
The is500 is also just a sedan with a V8 afterall
RCF is proven to be slower than IS500 in track testing so these differences really don't matter anymore.
I believe it’s 3,890 lbs . It’s smaller than a GSF and GSF weighs 4,034 lbs and is a lot longer than IS500. IS500 is roughly 100 lbs heavier than a ISF
I have a 09 ISF, great highway cruiser especially after changing dampers to Bilstein shocks. Is possible to achieve descent mileage when driven normally, great handling and passing capability. Nice job on the review for a spoken presentation format while driving.
You should be getting mid to upper 20's on hwy depending on the speed limit. Get rid of your cats and you will get high to very low 30's.
What Bilstein shocks did you get and how long have they been on your car? Where did you buy them? I have a 2012 and need to change out my struts
@@glennnichols4220 They are B6's Lexus ISF Forum for information, Spring of 2020 TDot Perf (CDN) custom order to Germany. Quality 10/10. Replace rubber spring pads and added spacer in rear to raise. Gap is close to stock +/- 5mm
To me the price is a massive selling point. Forgetting interiors, this car has a soul, a NA V8, and an amazing sound. The new M3 costs at least 25k more than this and has precisely none of those things.
I've watched 10 reviews. Best so far!
Very good review, the focus is on the IS500 instead of competitors. I wasn't expecting this to be a new ISF. I'm excited about getting a sports sedan that does excitement and luxury equally.
I picked up a Caviar color 2023 Lexus IS 500. Love it! Oh my the sound. Great video 🎉
I will give it to you that you have given the most honest review for anyone who might be considering this vehicle for purchase. Many of the others take an odd stance and review the IS 500 from someone who's been in every iteration of a Lexus for years and to them it is tired inside and not sporty enough to be defined as a great sports car. The trouble is most considering this car are moving from a vehicle typically at least five years old and for me, infotainment was heads and shoulders above my old ride and the interior was several pay grades upgraded. I see this as a throwback GT sedan with good manners for both daily driving and sporty weekend runs on the good roads. That 5.0 is sure one sweet motor and if I could just learn to drive it in a mild manner I might actually beat my old Chevy pickup's fuel economy ;-P
Agreed. Last of the Lexus V-8's.
This is the spec I'd have it in.. The dark grey with the red interior. So nice.
I really want this car. Getting my two cars appraised and ready to ditch for this.
What it should have is a manual transmission, an updated infotainment system and leather seats.
Coming from an e90 m3 owner. At first my next car was going to be a 10-14 isf. Now that the is500 is out, idk what I want now lol
Great vlog. The n.a. V8 sounds amazing. To add a lot to your videos, one should include videos of the car going through corners or driving down a nice scenic road. A running monologue of the driver commenting is not as exciting as say Throttle House or Straight pipes. Cheers!
Great feedback, thanks! We'll try to incorporate this kind of footage in our next review. 👍
Man, I really like this car! Would love to add it to my garage beside my 2010 RX! I don’t know if anyone noticed in the video I saw three RX’s in this video during his drive!😂😂😂. I’ve had my RX since new and I still love driving it!But I would love to have that IS 500 for some fun, spirited driving! Yesss!
I have an 09 and the seats are incredibly comfortable. Get a GSF more room of you need it.
I really like this car. I live in Ontario though and am wondering if this car would be ok to drive in the winter as its rwd.
Well done!!! Great review.
very nice review I really wanna test drive one of these and thanks for sharing as well
Lexus should send it to other countries that do get the IS rage
Waiting for chance to order mine. . .top of my dealer's list but so many cars are on back order. This car will be special. And, FWIW, the IS 350 F Sport is also pretty awesome.
I put down the deposit for the IS 500. Hopefully I'll get it by the end of the year!
Great review! Can you confirm the engine sounds the same as in GS F and LC and that Sport+ transmission programming is identical to that of the GS F. Thank you!
I don’t think it sounds quite like the LC
Much more like GS F/RC F - not so similar to LC 500.
Would you choose the gsf or this bro as a daily
I love this car is a well made car
Great review…thanks!
Great Review! Did you ever drive the 2008 Lexus IS-F, 5L, V8 with 416 HP? I haven't but was wondering since the 2008 was a seemingly smaller car than the 2022.
And thank you......I did't know that Lexus made the GS-F with the large engine. I thought the "F" badging was just a trim level and not a larger engine.
As car salesman and mechanic prior I was impressed with the ISF underbody floor. Very well built. I also drove a ISF (like a crazy man). It was a more raw experience than a IS500 . It’s a tad lighter at 3,730 lbs and I remember when pushing it through corners the suspension was pretty soft in ISF. Suspension is also soft in IS500 . Both are very comfortable if u ask me.
What's the 0-60 times and 1/4+MPH?
who cares lol
That's easy, all slower than the competition and won't matter here of course because it's lacking.
4.3s on a good day.
This car performs much better on HIGHWAYS...
100-200 km/h
GT-R : 7.x
Panamera Turbo : 8.x
IS500,RCF, GSF : 9.x (not among the fastest but still VERY FAST!!!)
M340 : 10.x-11.x
@@MercOne You have to have good skills and traction to be that fast.
0-60 (tested by an average driver like me or at least 90% of the drivers on the roads)
2017 GSF almost empty gas tank (my current car) : 4.93
2018 M4 Competition 3/4 gas tank (rental car) : 5.01
We finally get a review from Lexus Enthusiast! I was about to say, you should videotape your podcasts and upload them on RUclips. Keep reviewing and sharing your insights!
Great realistic review
60k can buy a lot of different cars. Setting aside the dated interior removes a big portion of what makes a 60k luxury performance car imo. Also, looking at used car prices as an example of how any given car holds its value is a bit laughable now. Car prices are ridiculous across the board now. Heck, if the situation won't change, this thing will have a 5-10k markup attached to it like many other cars nowadays.
What it should have is a manual transmission, an updated infotainment system and leather seats!
Gonna wait until I see one with decently low miles for around 50k and snatch it
I don't understand why Lexus decided to use fake engine sounds. The 2UR-GSE V8 is a master piece. Why didn't they add piping inside the cabin like the RCF or active exhaust?
Definitely a collectors cars
Needs a better exhaust. Doesn’t need to be loud & obnoxious.
What’s the sound system like do l hav to buy new speakers and amplifier
Can tell how much is it ?
I say bring on the turbo v6!
Thanks!
Ha! I like the way you ended the review . . .
Engine was good for its time, but Lexus is really beating a dead horse with the IS line
I just sold a INFINTI Q50 RS for a IS500. If u haven’t got a chance to drive one for a 30 min (is500) then u probably should before critiquing it. I have a 2004 IS300 with a forged 2jz build going right now. 4klb modern turbo cars is something I just dnt need LOL
Nice
Subscribe this channel guys. I'm from Malaysia, finally found someone with fine explanation. Short speech n that's all we need to know.
It’s a dinosaur with V8 #Lexus #IS500
I love the v8 as much as the next guy but it is time to put the ice to rest once and for all . You had a good run !!
You’re overthinking this car. It’s a third-generation IS with a V-8. So with that said it could be a 2013 or a 2021 with an engine swap. Lexus did almost nothing else to the car other than add two cylinders and more horsepower. PERIOD! It’s obviously their blowout model before they release the fourth generation. Kind of what all car companies do just before they drop the next one. Go buy one if you want more torque and horsepower but don’t expect anything more than that… if you want a Lexus that offers premium technology; go get an LC500.
Blah blah blah
Contrary to popular opinion, I actually think this car is a little overrated. I do LOVE the NA V8 in a compact luxury sedan, it's such a throwback and brings so much character. Yes, Lexus reliability is stout and this should hold its value much better than its German rivals. However, I think there are a few drawbacks of this car:
1. Transmission - This is a deal breaker for me... The responsiveness and tuning of the gearbox is just so far behind its competition.
2. Seats - These seats look so cheap and cost cutting. It lacks behind in adjustability and comfort. Lexus didn't even bother to do leather on the IS500.
3. Design - This car overall is so dated. Lexus is basically using a platform from the mid-2000's, a dated interior, and didn't bother to update much. I understand this is part of the reason why this car is so reliable, but come on, they could've done something with the refresh...
4. Price - $62K gets you close to the big leagues: M3, C63, etc.. As much as I love a NA V8, I would think hard about pulling the trigger at that price.
Good luck getting a similarly equipped M3/C63 anywhere close to $62K. That alone tells me you're spec racing and not living in the real world. Find me a brand new well equipped, non-barebones M3 for close to that price and I'll buy it ASAP. I won't bother holding my breath lol.
What a boring road
Under 3900lb… ahaha… that thing is a pig!
