18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker (GameCube) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Acclaim Cheltenham's 2002 arcade truck-driving racing game for the Nintendo GameCube, 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker.
Played through the arcade mode on the normal difficulty level as Asphalt Cowboy.
18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker on the GameCube is a thoroughly solid port of an excellent Sega arcade racer. Developed originally by Sega AM2 and ported to the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and the Gamecube (the latter two ported by Acclaim), you play as a trucker in charge of a massive 18-wheeler responsible for hauling cargo from New York to San Francisco over the course of four stages.
There are quite a few things that it throws at you in typical Sega fashion to spice up the action: you can slipstream behind other large vehicles (which effectively provides the equivalent of a turbo boost), take alternate (and far more difficult) routes in search of shortcuts, wipe out specially marked cars to increase your remaining time, and in between stages, you get bonus rounds that can earn you important power-ups for your truck.
These power-ups are essential, as you aren't just racing against the timer. You are given a rival in the form of the ever-looming Lizard Tail. This guy just doesn't give up, and he thinks nothing of running you off the road so that he can deliver his shipment first. He growls at you constantly over the radio and provides a great deal of entertainment, though I wish he would get sucked up in the tornado that touches down in the second race.
The ads are pretty funny in this - I always get a kick out of seeing random things like the Denny's restaurant, signs for Holiday Inn, and the Texaco stations on the roadside. Sega loved those in-game advertisements for awhile - remember Crazy Taxi?
I remember this game not reviewing well when it was released, but I enjoyed it. I had it on the Dreamcast and always thought it was great. Being an arcade game, it doesn't feature a ton of content, but everything that is here is great: I never really thought it needed more. It adheres to an older game design ethos than many of its contemporaries - you play it again and again, improving your times and high scores, and that's the point. It's fun for the sake of being fun, not because it forces you through a half-baked story mode that lasts six hours. If you've played other Dreamcast-era Sega arcade ports, you know the drill, and you probably already know if this will appeal to you or not.
I personally give it two thumbs up. If you require an RPG-like experience in any game you play, you'll be left wanting, but I can pretty much guarantee that any fan of Sega's old arcade games will really enjoy it , especially given the dirt-cheap prices you can find it for.

18 Wheeler was yet another Sega arcade title that took a completely unexpected and boring sounding concept and turned it into something that was always a blast to play. With how cheap it is, there's no excuse for Sega coin-op fans to not try this one out!
believe it or not this game was on a 700MB CD instead of a DVD format disc
by the way I just thought about this you should play last night
and you did
I had this game on ps2
I'll hunt it down as quick as I can when I get the chance.
Sega's 'cade offering as a 'rig driver makes mincemeat outta these two (one of which I already mentioned in my comment above)...

i remember playing this game back in the day. and my dream was that one day to have an actual trucker game. where traveling from a city to a city would've take hours. now we have american truck simulator and that dream came true.
This arcade games brings back so many memories from my childhood. As luck would have, I found it in an arcade one day, and as an adult, it’s still funny crashing into other vehicles!
You're Winner!!
.....Oops, wrong game. LOL
Ha-ha.
This game looks like a bonafide classic as a trucking title, especially as a Sega arcade game. It beats the stuffing out of the game you referenced and another...

Hell, there's a diner in the small town I live in that still has the arcade machine and an arcade next to a pool table.
I played it at Chuck E. Cheese.

I was quite poor growing up. My mom saved up for a long time, every paycheck she could to buy me and my brother a gamecube with this game when my father went off to prison. This was mindblowing at the time for me, it truthfully started my love affair with video games. It randomly crossed my mind so I searched it and found your video. Thanks for the nostalgia Stranger. Cheers.
I remember my dad surprised me with this game when I was kid for the GameCube since he was a trucker at the time and still is🙌🏼
THERE’S A TRAFFIC JAM AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT
If I had a CB in my car that's what I would say to my fellow motorists
I remember playing this on ps2 it’s so nostalgic watching it now that I have PS5. And crazy that now I’m Truck Driver myself.
If I ever get an actual arcade game, I want the deluxe version of 18-Wheeler American Pro Trucker. Honking that horn was so much fun in the arcades back in the day, it was worth the dollar every time.
Hahahaha, that'd be a blast. You could scream obscenities at other people in the room like the bad guy does!
♫ Cause we got a mighty convoy

Like a Rhinestone 🤠 riding out on a 🐴 in a ⭐️-spangled rodeo...
Random oscillation of the vehicle makes the game super realistic, despite its low-resolution graphics.
The graphics are a from a 1999 arcade game lol. Biggest issue here is jaggies.
I was play gta5 doing a mission in a 18 wheeler and I just kept saying “18 WHEELER” it made me have a flashback to when me and my dad used to go to this arcade in ny and the game has a actual truck large wheels steering wheel mirrors and seats thanks for this memory
I think Lizard Tail took one too many speedballs.
I remember playing this in New York New York arcade, Las Vegas. Goodtimes!! thanks for the memories!
I remember playing this game on a big machine at my then local movie theatre. Bench, Steering Wheel, Shifter and all.

I would spend all of my $20 for the arcade just one this one game. This game and the Hard Truck series are what inspired me to become a truck driver.
Cult Classic! One of my favorite Trucking games along with the PC simulators Hard Truck: 18-Wheels of Steel
Oh man, I remember having a blast with this in the arcade!
I need to take my kid to the arcade
I used to rent this game from blockbuster when I was 8.. probably what got me into American Truck Simulator lmao
Same lol
Wow brings back memories
I miss the days when you can grab any game off the shelf and have one helluva day or evening
Looks a Hell of a lot better than that crappy Rebel Trucker game for PC, especially considering that this title is a port of a Sega arcade game.
The first level's music is just so damn catchy! 🤟❤
I remember when I first played this game in the arcade. I had to get it so I end up buying it for the consul.
I played as a teenager. I liked a lot. I stil having it on Dreamcast.
It seems any game Yu Suzuki has a hand in (producer in this case) it's unique and awesome.
This version & PS2 has the World Trade Center Twin Towers that appear at the 1st level omitted due to the towers destruction on the 9/11 attacks, but the arcade version has the World Trade Center Twin Towers appear at the 1st level.
That's cuz the arcade and Dreamcast versions came out before 9/11 happened
Here in Europe Playstation and Nintendo 64 was more popular. Now Im 30 I bought Gamecube and I trying to get in to it. 😁
I have this game for my GameCube, too! I beat the game with all five trucks on all difficulties and got the high score/time on every score attack/parking level. Supposedly you can unlock Lizard Tail, but I don't think it's possible.
I’m crying 😭 me and my mom played this when I was 3 that was about 9 years ago
Also I was on the road with my dad and I found this game in an arcade crazy am I right
This game needs a remaster for the new gen consoles lol it would be awesome!!
I would pay 40$ for this
Ya honestly with things like Vr and actual steering wheel controls setup it should get one!
Men I probably buy a gamecube to play all this games again 💜
I did. :-)
never heard about it, looks fun!!
There's danger out on the nation's road

They can flatten a cow or a horse or a manatee

I remember playing this game back in the day in the arcades and my game cube Nintendo man those were the days 😢 miss my childhood games. Now I actually drive real 18 wheelers for a living 😊 has always been my life dream and career choice since I was a kid.
Joguei muito esse jogo na minha infância sdds mds 😂👏🏻👏🏻
This looks too fun!!
The only problem I have with this game is, no matter how well you drive your truck your opponent NEVER falls behind completely. It's a cheat and ruins the experience IMHO.
If only real life trucking was so unregulated... damn DoT...
When Stuttering Craig of ScrewAttack reviewed this game, all he did was whine and cry about the home ports not being as good as the arcade original.
Deep Ghoul The Dreamcast version was pretty close to perfect. It was running on Sega's Naomi arcade system, which was just a beefed up Dreamcast.
I saw the arcade machine multiple times back then and had fun driving a truck. But i hate the rival being noisy af
I still don't understand why they changed all the voices in this game.
Another difference between the arcade & console versions is that the console versions have a Grand Canyon billboard on the left side of the screen at 1:24, while the arcade version has a Holiday Inn billboard on the left side of the screen.
Dude how could I enjoy this game 🤣
Parking a semi is way harder than driving it
I can tell you that specially when I was taking my test to get my Class A CDL.😂😂😂
If I didn't have so many crappy responsibilities in life, I'd track down a copy and toss it in my Wii for an hour or two. Looks like a blast. I remember it in the arcades but never gave it a chance.
Just like how I never gave Rapid River (which, unlike this game was never ported to consoles) a chance myself.
Super easy now if you just download a dolphin emulator on your phone and search a rom of this game for gc. Then voila playing it on your phone to fill your nostalgia needs
What Big Rigs Over the Road Racing should've been.
God I remember playing this game on GC as a kid! I never got past the second level but I had fun playing the time attack mode.
I never knew this was an Arcade game until years later.
Joguei esse jogo recentemente,e ele é muito bom recomendo
This truck mega drive game is funking great dudex ooh yeah broer ooh cool man punk
this game is classic. still fun as hell
The parking challenges on this game were my favorite
In my mind this is a prequel to crazy taxi

This game well i heard of that when i only seen the magazine.
Nice
I remember playing 18 wheelers in the arcade it the cabin looked like a semi truck
I'm a trucker, NGL I would call this an ultimate simulator.
Hopefully they do a remake with no background popups, if it didn't have them it would of looked as good as a Sega model 3 game for sure, when i look at this game i always think they starting building a really nice looking game typical Sega genius but then got slack at the later stages of development, i don't know maybe Sega needed to give the makers a longer time frame to complete it.
You could say they had to go faster faster
Western star , Peterbilt , kenworth , mack , and freightliner is this very huge badass

For you American badass truckers if you play this game reply i
oh yeah as boring as it to quickly beat this game
it did however feature challenging parking minigames where you collect the green balls and you had to park your vehicle however while avoiding driving off the side of the roads like the mountains
