Personally I don't like the colour of the wood trim, it is too pale. It looks fake, needs to be several shades darker. Maybe it is because it is so close to the colour of the leather
@@robertwillis4061 What do you mean it looks fake? Their are various types of trees and all of their wood looks different. Walnut is not the only real wood.
As a RR owner I can absolutely inform you that it takes time to learn how to drive a RR/Bently. The reference to bring a "boat" is sort of correct but an extremely smooth boat. After a few drives one learns the cars charteristics. For me personally I am never in a hurry. Why be in a hurry. Enjoy the drive.
Wow, this car is impressive. It is extremely elegant for such a huge car, with a really classic and beautiful interior. One of the first things I noticed is that it is super quiet, and it really wafts over bumps. I remember other cars you drove on the same route on some serious bad roads, this car just doesn't seem to care, it just floats over them. Really good stuff. And it is quick. Not fast, but quick because of all the low end torque. The Grand Marquis you mention is in a class of its own, but it will never ever come near this Bentley. The "new Bentley" shows a lot of very much needed technological progress, but the Continental GT and even the Flying Spur lost some of the charm that the Azure still has, even after all those years. Don't think about mentioning "Bentayga" and "class" or "stylish" in one sentence. No, this Azure and also the Arnage of the same era were the last classic Bentleys.
I really appreciated the more taciturn approach in this video. I love your commentary, don't get me wrong, but having watched this late at night, tired from work, that quiet V8 rumble all throughout was surprisingly soothing. I'd have a Brooklands myself if I had the money - that comes with the peak form of the 6.75L V8 and I love the pillarless coupé look - but these sorts of Bentleys really are just the best of the bunch. Thanks for the video! Your videos always put me in a great mood.
looks and sounds like she scoots pretty good, gorgeous looking car. i saw one in a purple metallic color was some special color omg was that car amazing
Funny time to post this, we have a '99 Azure at my shop currently with 38k miles. It's very similar besides the more 90s interior with a car phone in the console and disc changer in the trunk. There's many more switches and buttons though in the center area. One thing a video can't wholly express is the incredible quality feel of all of the buttons and switches. No plastic, everything is metal and weighted. That's the build quality I love about RR.
Man, the sound when it started & its sound while driving. What a feeling to be inside. And the look of the exterior & interior just want to make me to own one. You are so😂 daring to drive that car on such a lonely road.
Idk how but you just capture the essence of the cars with how you film these. You really capture the strengths and weaknesses and you have a good personality too!
I would love to buy an Arnage from this era which I could afford except for two factors. First, I am Community College professor, and people will generically think I am getting rich off public funds which is not the case at all. But appearances matter. Most folks don’t realize that Depreciation is what makes an Arnage in the same price category as far more humble cars. 2. If something breaks that is really bespoke Bentley, the parts cost scares me: my husband can do the mechanicals on most stuff, but it’s a risk. For now, I’ll watch Ted❤
It’s not just that some parts will be very hard to find over time, but it’s the sheer amount of parts on Rolls Royce/Bentley cars that really shocks people. These cars usually have at least 6 mufflers, and you can just imagine the hours it will take to replace them, then add in labor and the cost of parts. An oil change will cost at least $500. A new convertible top is at least $15,000. You can just imagine what you’ll spend on gas and insurance. Bentley’s depreciate really badly, often people buy them and don’t realize the time, money, and commitment it takes to keep one running. Even if you can afford it, it’s still a major commitment. Sadly, they’re also not known for being reliable cars. Buying a cheaper used one that looks beautiful might be tempting, but it can be hiding a host of problems only a certified Bentley mechanic would see. If you want an elegant and luxurious car, get a top of the line Lexus: they’re famous for being extremely reliable, better made than just about anything, not expensive to maintain, and are virtually silent inside when you’re driving. There’s a reason used Lexus’ hold their value so well.
@@Mike-rk8px I agree with what you wrote. I would never get a Bentley Convertible. We have a number of vehicles, mostly antiques. I have a 52 Jaguar Mark 7 that is slowly getting restored and that has Bentley styling: that will have to do. That will be my retirement pimp car.😂😂😂
I'm a Mercedes Benz owner. Love the turning radius, great on premium fuel, and isn't bad on synthetic oil changes. $138. Drove my CLK from San Diego to Tampa in 4.5 days. This car loved cruise control @ 85 mph. 300 miles per tank, that's from El Paso to San Antonio. By the way, excellent Bose sound system! Now I'm a Depeche Mode fan/air-conditioner here in Ybor City, Florida God Bless you all! 🇺🇸. 💯.
These cars are actually quite robust. I think the weak points are the soft top hydraulic cylinders. But Bentley and Rolls-Royce are truly built to last a lifetime. So if you actually keep them long-term it becomes quite economical to own. Bonus if you can do some of your own maintenance. There are a lot of Volkswagen group crossover parts that can save a bundle.
Have you ever owned one with more than 50K miles? My friend did; had to rebuild suspension, window motor, etc etc. My opinion; POS , especially given the cost of the vehicle.
I remember the WW2 generation having LTDs, Crown Vics, and more floaty boats as a kid. This Bentley makes those LTDs look like dinghys. Lay back in your seat and think of The Empire.
Do I really see a steering wheel, climate controls, probably even a seat base from an e38 era BMW 7 series? Also, maybe it's just on video, but this car could do with some quieter (maybe more modern?) tyres - feels a bit odd to be hearing thread noise at very low speeds.
Education, please! I wish I could say I knew - first hand - what you mean by one of your statements in this vid, but, alas, I do not. You said once VW and BMW acquired the RR and Bentley marques, they became "very, very different types of vehicles." I'd be grateful if you could elaborate on that point. Sincere thanks!
If you‘re really into this landyacht thing (like me) You should try to test drive a 1992 Mercedes 600 SEL. I’d let you drive mine when I‘ve finally eliminated that drive line shake… So if you’re in Germany sometime in the future hit me up 😂
I bet 95% of people don't ever come above 4500 t.p.m., especially not with a automatic transmission. And yet so many are so proud of how much horsepower their car makes (at 6000 t.p.m. or even more)
I always loved the parchment dials and I thought they should adapt that scheme to other interior colors. For example, a blue interior would have powder blue parchment dials. Same goes for other interior colors.
Size of a yacht and the yearly maintenance costs are probably about the same as a 100 ft yacht. I have sympathy for anyone that has to keep up with the mineral oil based hydraulic system in these.
That isn't realistic at all. It is still just a car with many moving parts. Things wear out over time through use and through environmental wear and tear. Just because something is so expensive, doesn't mean you are 100% free from repairs. Just look at all the motors and linkages needed to put the top up and down even.
@@Addison0526There's cars that last to 300k without any major repairs. They are mostly Toyotas, Hondas, or old diesels like VW and audi tdi. Definitely not a Bentley or anything British made.
It's astonishing how a soft top is as quiet on the highway as my four door sedan
It's not astonishing. I sold them when new. It's the staggering price that creates a vehicle like that.
That may be the most jaw-droppingly beautiful interior I've ever seen. Its glorious! Thanks again for all your vids, Sir!
