I'm so glad to see modern Type-R badged Hondas still drive like they used to in the 90s, controllable lift off oversteer, rotation on demand, I love it!
@@RustyRussell_YT oh and relating to the video I also own an fl5 and it can drift you just need to weight transfer at a point of tipping in the front and slowly reach a meeting point between the throttle and brake
You're technique strongly resembles Keiichi Tsuchiya's, especially how you use all of the gearing, like how you jump to second to get just a second more acceleration just before going up to 3 again. Very impressive driving man!
Looks like it has an amazing and playful chassis. My only criticism of this generation would be the engine sound which seems quite forced and unrealistic

when I try to drive fast in corners I also have a lot of revs and a small gear. I was thinking that I should be able to have +1 gear up , I'd be faster but I'm just not confident. Maybe I am wrong and 2nd/3rd gear is good many times
The beeping at redline is kind of silly. The point of little motors is redlining the shit out of them. Amazing drive as usual!! You guys make every car seem amazing
It’s just to let you know you’re just about to hit the limiter so time to up shift to avoid bouncing off it. They use the same system in f1 and probably other race cars too. It can be turned off but it’s very useful in this car, as it gains revs very fast and the engine sound doesn’t really change in tone with revs, so it doesn’t let you know how close you are to the limiter.
I thought so too, but check Misha's latest video in a type R around the nordschleife... RIP. If it's just an unlucky mechanical issue, fair enough. But I'm afraid they might all be like this, lol. Overheating is no good
Pretty sure there was something (or several things actually) wrong with the one Misha drove. Max oil temp I’ve seen on mine was about 130 up Kesselchen. There’s a few Ring onboard vids of other guys on YT, max oil temp there was 126 or 127. The official lap also was around 130max if I remember correctly.
i think that one was a lemon, have met a few FL5 owners in my area with a good amount of miles and track usage on their cars without any particular issue. it is a honda after all!
Im sure that the Type R is probably the greates car to drive in its class and price range. Yet the only thing that bothers me about it is THE SOUND. It justs sounds plain bad and the pumped in fake engine noise is awful. :(
Thanks for asking amateur opinion since It's not saying much. For a peasant like me a good car has a neutral chassis and is in every conceivable way efficient and practical. In these terms the new civic is an absolute masterclass and everyone who loves driving involvement combined with modern legislations should buy this car while they still can since with any lightweight manual driver focused family car they will not to be available in a year or two until eventually these cars will cease to exist due to 2027 emission standards and therefore heavy hybrids or evs will dominate. For ex. one of a kind new age rally bred Toyota GR Yaris was sold barely two years until they ran out of models and it will be the same case with this Civic type R. I suggest the Hyundai i20N is only a couple of percent faster in low speed corners due to it's lower weight but everywhere else this civic will excel. I love driving. Who doesn't want to be in control of time no matter swift it seems to move unless one starts tinkering with LSD at their ''free will''. This channel is what I actually want to see. It's like watching best motoring international but with a more concise content. To name a few I have driven front wd 1993 lancer , 1993 5th gen 2 door civic 9300rpm carburetor, mk2 golf diesel , mk1 berlingo :D, mk1 renault megane, mk1 fwd and 4wd mondeo, 1997 volvo v70 etc etc...and all manual on loose surfaces or snow. Any of these forementioned vehicles where infinitely more controllable on the relaxed end of rear end departure rate than my 2022 dacia duster, 2011 ford focus or some skoda superb that I have also enjoyed these moments of lift off oversteer. In comparison these new boxes with electromechanical actuators may very well be good cars but are lacking in agility, direct feedback and suspension compliance compared to these older and lighter cars with boring but predictable chassis roll.
So much effort to minimise inherent flaws of front wheel drive, while all they had to do, was to distribute the work between front and rear by sending a shaft to the rear, and placing differential and halfshafts in the back.
It's a beast indeed, but I can't imagine buying this over Audi RS3 for the same money. Especially considering it's too stiff and uncomfortable on the road for daily use. Hot hatch should be at least decent when it comes to comfort.
That's just two car with different purpose. And they are not at the same price at all. Honda 45k, Audi 62k. Honda 300HP, Audi 400HP. Honda weights 3188 pounds, Audi 3638. I would choose honda over audi exactly because its stiffer, it's cheaper, I bet it's more reliable and Honda got 6 MT and not AT. How can you compare them in a such way i don't understand, if you are about comfort and AT transmission why even look at honda?
@@xman25ru And I just said "I" can't imagine buying this over the Audi. So what are you even talking about? I'm saying Audi is more car for money IN MY MIND. Shouldn't be too hard to understand. And it is in fact a better car for 90% of people 90% of time. Same as Golf R. You go ahead and buy the Honda if you're mad enough to pay those prices for a fwd hot hatch that will break your spine on the road. People are disabling active suspension to make bearable, it's hilarious. It's nearly 20k more expensive than the previous generation car and it's literally not any better. Only prettier. So, it's a ripoff. And let's not talk about reliability, it overheats at mild track use. You just made it up based on legends about cars from 20 years ago.
