And you’re exactly right about making this show your whole personality because same 😂😭 I started it Friday on a whim and I already finished the first season, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. The first two episodes had me fighting tears the whole time. And while I relate to Anne to a certain degree, the show also has me feeling so nostalgic in so many ways even down to the music and idk why. I think it reminds me of some of the stories I liked as a kid 🥹 I also finally watched Little Women (2019) at the end of 2021 and that movie also changed my life like I can’t stop myself from sobbing every time I watch it. Everything about that movie is perfect as you said 😭 Lord of the Rings is also one of my favorites 😔 I haven’t returned to much in recent years but I was obsessed with it in middle school and I really need to rewatch the extended editions because I haven’t seen them in ages and the regular cut versions leave out SO MUCH! Avatar the Last Airbender and Ghibli movies like Howls Moving Castle and Spirited Away are also very high on my list of favorites as well. Also I finally watched Your Name a couple months ago after wanting to watch it for YEARS but not really knowing where to watch it l. And I genuinely didn’t expect to sob as much as I did 😭😭🥹 You also mentioned the music in movies and shows a few times and I feel like the importance of good music in movies and shows is never discussed enough, so I’m glad you understand 😂 Because for me if I’m going to get emotional and tear up or cry watching something 9/10 times the music playing in the background enhances my emotions to the point where I’m ready to cry 🥹 which is why I think it is so so important to good storytelling. Especially if the soundtrack is so good that you return to listen to it outside and the show/movie. Idk if you’ve ever watched Doctor Who but I wanna recommend it if you like stuff that has certain complex themes and make you think a little. I feel like Doctor Who doesn’t seem like it from the outside, but it really does have a lot of important themes in it that I’ve noticed and also makes you think a lot about humanity and stuff. And it’s one of the reasons why it’s probably one of my favorite shows beyond the quirky adventure aspects to it. FMA Brotherhood is one of my daughter’s favorites! She watched the original when she was about 10 and she got to the Hughes episode and at around 1am she burst into my room sobbing hysterically! She was just reminiscing about this a couple of days ago. Just wanted to share that!

I LOVE the 2019 Little Women movie. I grew up reading and loving the book, and this movie did SUCH a good job of adapting it while also keeping it relevant or interesting for modern audiences. The quote for me that gets me every time is Jo saying, "I believe that women are more than just hearts, and I'm so sick of hearing that's all they're meant for...but I'm so lonely." It resonated so deeply with me that every time I watch the movie, I get chills and close to tearing up.
Rachel McAdams does the Audible exclusive audiobook for the first Anne of Green Gables book (which actually covers all three seasons, with a TON of telling, not showing) and she does a wonderful job! You can tell by McAdams' performance that she was influenced by Amybeth Mcnulty's rendition of Anne. Very much worth the listen 🥰 Though, not nearly as diverse of a story as the show, which I'm sure you know 😔

ATLA is objectively good. I didn’t watch it as a kid, so I watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and it is one of my all time favorite shows if not my favorite!

I saw FMAB on thumbnail and clicked on the video. FMAB has my heart and soul for this life and no anime has overtaken FMAB. The story and it's depth has such an everlasting impact on my life and mindset. It open up your mind and makes you think about life with another perspective. Even the music is so beautiful. Avatar was, is and always be my favorite TV show. It's not just because it's a HUGE part of my childhood, but I think its story, world- building and characters make it unique. I'm also rewatching it, I'm almost finishing book 2, hehe. Also the fact that most of the characters are teenagers that deal with trauma and have to deal with pure evil at such a young age is also inspiring. I loved the fact that the the Gaang members had a character development and evolved so much in such a short amount of time due to their world falling apart. Although Aang had an incredible evolution during the 3 books, I also belive that Zuko is actually the one who changed the most, both mentally and spiritually. It's true, he had Iroh for a significant period of time, but it was himself who realised he is fighting for the wrong team and changed sides, and for that only, he is truly inspiring and an example for those who think people can't change and try to be good. Hannah, love your content and thank you for giving Avatar the recognition it deserves 💕 P. S. : anyone else excited for Azula 's upcoming novel??

loving that most of my favourites are on your list too haha. While ATLA is still my favourite show, the only show that has ever come close to touching ATLA for me is Arcane. I did not know anything about it. Heck, I didn't even know it was based on a game at first, but oh my god... It has stuck with me so much and I cannot stop thinking about it. It has a lot of the most well developed (and heartbreaking) characters I've seen in media ever, the story is developed amazingly, the animation is absolutely beautiful and the soundtrack is just spectacular. Would 1000% recommend💖💖
I was going to comment the same thing! The Dragon Prince is the show that feels most similar to Avatar to me, but Arcane is the only show I think that comes close to Avatar quality wise imo

I totally agree with you on Avatar. I watched the show for the first time ten years ago, and since then, I have re-watched it (and the Legend of Korra) every summer with my older sister. This year we'll be going on 12 re-watches for both series, and we NEVER sick sick of them. They're literally both of our all-time fav shows and we just seem to adore and love them even more with each year that passes. It's the kind of show where, you relate to different things each time you re-watch it. Like, I relate and understand totally different elements of the shows now that I'm an adult than when I was a kid and I think that's something very beautiful. ❤ I'm definitely gonna raise my kids on ATLA and LOK too, they're true classics and some of the best tv ever made!!
Congratulations!! I recommend the Canadian miniseries Anne of Green Gables from 1985. Would love a video of older movies you like. If you haven't watched movies from say before 1970, I highly recommend that adventure!

I remember watching the first version of Fruits Basket, I was still in high school at that point and all I want for that anime was the love story. That's all I cared. And now that I am an adult, I started watching the new version and finished it so quickly because never have I relate to an anime as an adult. I cried so hard at some dialogues and scenes. I felt like someone can understand what I am feeling and somehow felt like being seen. Despite of it all, I love Fruits Basket. Also, fullmetal alchemist is my favorite anime second to ghost fighter (mostly because of the nostalgia it gave me everytime I look back). I think I need to watch Anne with an E because I kept stumbling videos on tiktok about this show and it caught my interest 😊 And Howl's Moving Castle ❤ chef's kiss.

I just started watching Yona of the Dawn after this and it reminds me a lot of „Fushigi Yuugi“. If you never heard of it: I can recommend the mangas and especially the follow up „Genbu Kaiden“. It’s similar in the sense of kingdoms being in danger, a girl being the one to come into her power to safe it and worriers sworn to protect her. One of them being her love interest of course 😉. My beloveds... ♥ My first Makoto Shinkai movie was 5 centimeters per second (which I think you've read) and none of his other movies have hit me quite as much since, including Your Name, but the animation alone is always stunning. I loved the book of Little Women and immediately watched the 2019 adaptation and loved it. People always hyped up the 1994 adaptation and I was skeptical but I caught it on tv one day and my god... just the script alone, burst into tears twice. I would definitely recommend that version too if you haven't seen it yet! Also, heard just yesterday that Book Depository is shutting down this month, but maybe Amazon can do internationally...

Hi! Just wanted to recommend the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena because I think it would be your thing? It's a about a girl who dreams of becoming a princes who ends up participating in strange duels at her school with the "rose bride", a schoolmate of hers, as the winning prize. It's a very dark/austere toned show with shots of absurdist humor, but it's mostly a deeply feminist show, with a sapphic main love story, wonderfully directed by reusing the imagery of classic shoujo manga and fairy tales, and in general A Lot of symbolism. It has a lot of sensitive content so do check out the content warnings tho. But I think thematically it's one of the strongest shows ever made, even more knowing it was released in 1997. Congrats on the launch of the tv/movies journal!

I think you'd really like Mo Dao Zu Shi, particularly the animated adaptation. It's based on a Chinese danmei (BL) novel but the donghua (Chinese anime) is absolutely phenomenal. There's also a live action adaptation too. I only say this because I'm a huuuuuge Yona stan and I think if you like Yona you'd like MDZS. And it centers a queer romance! Anyway been watching your vids for years but never really commented but I am glad to see you're doing well! Love your content!!

Rachel McAdams does the Audible exclusive audiobook for the first Anne of Green Gables book (which actually covers all three seasons, with a TON of telling, not showing) and she does a wonderful job! You can tell by McAdams' performance that she was influenced by Amybeth Mcnulty's rendition of Anne. Very much worth the listen 🥰 Though, not nearly as diverse of a story as the show, which I'm sure you know 😔

ATLA is objectively good. I didn’t watch it as a kid, so I watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and it is one of my all time favorite shows if not my favorite!

Avatar was, is and always be my favorite TV show. It's not just because it's a HUGE part of my childhood, but I think its story, world- building and characters make it unique. I'm also rewatching it, I'm almost finishing book 2, hehe.
Also the fact that most of the characters are teenagers that deal with trauma and have to deal with pure evil at such a young age is also inspiring. I loved the fact that the the Gaang members had a character development and evolved so much in such a short amount of time due to their world falling apart. Although Aang had an incredible evolution during the 3 books, I also belive that Zuko is actually the one who changed the most, both mentally and spiritually. It's true, he had Iroh for a significant period of time, but it was himself who realised he is fighting for the wrong team and changed sides, and for that only, he is truly inspiring and an example for those who think people can't change and try to be good.

loving that most of my favourites are on your list too haha. While ATLA is still my favourite show, the only show that has ever come close to touching ATLA for me is Arcane. I did not know anything about it. Heck, I didn't even know it was based on a game at first, but oh my god... It has stuck with me so much and I cannot stop thinking about it. It has a lot of the most well developed (and heartbreaking) characters I've seen in media ever, the story is developed amazingly, the animation is absolutely beautiful and the soundtrack is just spectacular. Would 1000% recommend💖💖
I was going to comment the same thing! The Dragon Prince is the show that feels most similar to Avatar to me, but Arcane is the only show I think that comes close to Avatar quality wise imo

There's a really good anime that I'm addicted to which is Attack on Titan! If you've never seen it, I recommend it.

I totally agree with you on Avatar. I watched the show for the first time ten years ago, and since then, I have re-watched it (and the Legend of Korra) every summer with my older sister. This year we'll be going on 12 re-watches for both series, and we NEVER sick sick of them. They're literally both of our all-time fav shows and we just seem to adore and love them even more with each year that passes. It's the kind of show where, you relate to different things each time you re-watch it. Like, I relate and understand totally different elements of the shows now that I'm an adult than when I was a kid and I think that's something very beautiful. ❤ I'm definitely gonna raise my kids on ATLA and LOK too, they're true classics and some of the best tv ever made!!
Congratulations!! I recommend the Canadian miniseries Anne of Green Gables from 1985. Would love a video of older movies you like. If you haven't watched movies from say before 1970, I highly recommend that adventure!

AAA THE JOURNAL!!! this sounds so perfect for me bc i love keeping track of what i'm watching but i watch so much more tv than film these days (i'm currently 7 seasons deep into a spn rewatch) - and it comes out right before barbie, which is my most anticipated film of 2023. this is so exciting!!

I remember watching the first version of Fruits Basket, I was still in high school at that point and all I want for that anime was the love story. That's all I cared. And now that I am an adult, I started watching the new version and finished it so quickly because never have I relate to an anime as an adult. I cried so hard at some dialogues and scenes. I felt like someone can understand what I am feeling and somehow felt like being seen. Despite of it all, I love Fruits Basket. Also, fullmetal alchemist is my favorite anime second to ghost fighter (mostly because of the nostalgia it gave me everytime I look back).
I think I need to watch Anne with an E because I kept stumbling videos on tiktok about this show and it caught my interest 😊 And Howl's Moving Castle ❤ chef's kiss.

I just started watching Yona of the Dawn after this and it reminds me a lot of „Fushigi Yuugi“. If you never heard of it: I can recommend the mangas and especially the follow up „Genbu Kaiden“. It’s similar in the sense of kingdoms being in danger, a girl being the one to come into her power to safe it and worriers sworn to protect her. One of them being her love interest of course 😉.

Anne with an E has been on my list since it was released but I haven't had a chance to watch it. I wanted to watch it because I loved the TV mini-series of Anne of Green Gables with Megan Follows and the sequel Anne of Avonlea. I've only seen the first episode of Anne with an E and it was more intense than I was expecting but I hope I can make time to watch it in its entirety.

My tastes align with yours SO much! I had no idea you loved the LOTR movies! My beloveds... ♥ My first Makoto Shinkai movie was 5 centimeters per second (which I think you've read) and none of his other movies have hit me quite as much since, including Your Name, but the animation alone is always stunning. I loved the book of Little Women and immediately watched the 2019 adaptation and loved it. People always hyped up the 1994 adaptation and I was skeptical but I caught it on tv one day and my god... just the script alone, burst into tears twice. I would definitely recommend that version too if you haven't seen it yet!
Also, heard just yesterday that Book Depository is shutting down this month, but maybe Amazon can do internationally...

Hi! Just wanted to recommend the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena because I think it would be your thing? It's a about a girl who dreams of becoming a princes who ends up participating in strange duels at her school with the "rose bride", a schoolmate of hers, as the winning prize. It's a very dark/austere toned show with shots of absurdist humor, but it's mostly a deeply feminist show, with a sapphic main love story, wonderfully directed by reusing the imagery of classic shoujo manga and fairy tales, and in general A Lot of symbolism. It has a lot of sensitive content so do check out the content warnings tho. But I think thematically it's one of the strongest shows ever made, even more knowing it was released in 1997.

I think you'd really like Mo Dao Zu Shi, particularly the animated adaptation. It's based on a Chinese danmei (BL) novel but the donghua (Chinese anime) is absolutely phenomenal. There's also a live action adaptation too. I only say this because I'm a huuuuuge Yona stan and I think if you like Yona you'd like MDZS. And it centers a queer romance!
