  • In this video, I go through the settings that affect CPU and GPU and explain how to tune these to get the best performance. This will depend on whether the sim is GPU or CPU-limited.
    Have a look at my previous video for all my settings, as well as how to measure performance:

    Didn't even watch this video after seeing your specs. I'm amazed daily at videos like this. Latest, Greatest CPUs with 4080, 4090s. I'd love to see a video for once where an average PC was used. Most MSFS users are still sporting mainly old i5 and i7s, RTX3060s and below, RTX 2 series, GTX, etc. Where are the videos to help the average user? Here's an idea folks, go out tonight and drop $4K on an i9 with an RTX 4090, 2tb SSD and 64gb of high speed RAM, you won't need these tweaker videos. Oh, what's that, you have a mortgage and kids to raise, college tuition, gas, groceries, all 20-30% higher than when MSFS came out?

      The same principles still apply, regardless of the hardware. Most people will be CPU-limited, hence TLOD and AI traffic will be important. It’s true that I didn’t focus much on GPU-related settings though, besides mentioning resolution and the potential benefit of DLSS. Even though the RTX40-series was launched two years ago, there’s a surprising level of anger and frustration directed towards people with those cards… I get your point though. I’ll consider making my videos more relevant for a wider audience.

      I spend 4 to 6 grand every year building a new system. The ones I don't use are given away to family and friends who need a system.
      That said. My latest
      Is in a Hyte Y70 case.
      Aorus extreme z790
      64gb of top speed ram.
      14900K, RTX 4090 OC
      Hynix 4tb platinum 2 sticks for 8tb.
      Lian li trinity Galahad with addon mirrored rgb.
      I use total 7 fans all the latest lian li fans with rgb out the wazoo.
      All that and still the system can be brought to its knees running in certain conditions with addon software.
      The system is very stable though 95 percent of the time.
      My point is, Flight sim has always been way ahead of any hardware to run at more than 60fps maxed out.
      Once it gets close, they come out with a new one that requires hardware not yet developed for another 3 years.
      I also buy 2 to 3 thousand dollars every year it seems for all the latest addons, airports, aircraft, and so on.
      Point is I run maxed settings and these videos with tweaks help even my self who just doesn't know that much about settings and I dont want to go touching what I don't know. Some settings really help others don't but it's really great to see these content creators helping with their knowledge and discoveries. I just want to fly and letting them do the bulk of trial and error is the value I get from these videos. So thanks to Captain Piett and others as well.

      @@onlyyou7171 I thought that was a great point - even with a top specced rig, we'll run into bottlenecks. My reason for upgrading was that my i9-12900KF was holding everything back. Yes it's awesome having a 4090 and frame gen, but it really doesn't help with the CPU/mainthread limit situation we run into when increasing TLOD and AI traffic. Besides this, I really enjoy all the tweaking and experimenting, so it's always great to hear that my videos can be useful.

      It causes some “distortion”. I wouldnt say blurry, but definitely degrades the image. Its much cleaner image without it

    Never put your Anisotropic filter to OFF otherwise your runway will looks totally blurry. It should be at 16X in all time. Also, using AUTO FPS app, you should let your Terrain Level of Detail to 200 and the app will adjust it automatically. What suck the most on the pereformances is TLOD. Beflow 5000' it's the best idea to set it at 50 but above that you have to increase it gradually to 100 and 200 to make your texture appearing farther. Also Shadow map and Terrain shadow should be at 2048 for very nice sharp shadows in the cockpit.

    • @dennis.oosthuizen
      @dennis.oosthuizen 9 дней назад +3

      Just a comment: There are a few posts on youtube that explain why you shoult rather set Anisotropic filtering in the Nvidia setting to 16X and then switch it off in MSFS. This will give you a better result. The Anisotropic filtering in MSFS is not optimal yet.

    i have a 5800X3D, 32GB RAM and RTX4090. My game is on ultra settings with TLOD and OLOD set to 150. TAA and Frame Generation used. I get 110 fps with fenix a level flight. average 40 - 60 fps at busy airports in ground, medium airports 60 - 80 fps and smaller airports over 100 fps. Game has never been smoother it's amazing.

    I am curious to see the changes after you upgrade. I have an Intel 14900k with an RTX 4090 GPU. I have limited my fps to 60fps with similar settings to you, my LOTD at 200 though and some of my setting are at ultra where I saw you yours were set to high or off. I have limited my FPS to 60FPS (due to my monitor) in my Nvidia settings and my FPS does not drop below 59fps. With Frame Gen on my monitor is always at 119fps; (I only have a 120hz monitor,) which is good enough for me. (My monitor records actual FPS but on MSFS it will only show the FPS generated by MSFS). I have no stutters or any issues, no mater what i fly. I am sure the Ryzen CPU will make a big difference for you. I have no issues with my system, and my graphics are perfect for me. I think you will be happy with the upgrade. My CPU and GPU temperatures are at safe levels even though I have overclocked and under-volted my CPU. (CPU temp stays below 70 degrees, only clocked at 5200mhz., GPU usage runs between 40 to 95%) I have upgraded my fans on my cooling system too. Overall, with the right settings, better hardware and some testing, I am sure you will be happy with the upgrade.

    I'd rather have TLOD at minimum 100 with lower fps, game looks awful with anything under, with a 12th gen i9 and a 4090 there is no reason whatsoever you should need to run TLOD at 50, i get away with 100 with a 2070S and r5 3600x, obviously adjusting the settings accordingly

    • @captainpiett765
      @captainpiett765  9 дней назад

      I can agree with that. At TLOD 50 the runway is blurry on short final. But don’t think my 12900 can handle much more than TLOD 100 on approach to KLAX, KJFK, EGLL etc. So I have to make compromises.

      A 4090 won’t say the day if you’re CPU-limited. My reason for using lossless was to increase AI traffic, which is a CPU-related setting. So in this case the 4090 doesn’t matter. There’s this misconception that if you’ve got a 4090, you won’t have any issues with performance. This is simply not true. TLOD and AI traffic are dependent on CPU, not GPU

      MSFS is challenging to run. Even with a 7800 X3D and an RX 7900 XTX, I struggle to achieve good performance. I rarely hit 60fps with ultra settings and often dip below 30. (I know the 7900 isn't a 4090, but it's basically the next best thing). Anyone who plays this thing is interested in performance, regardless of what they have driving their PC. Hopefully, MSFS 2024 will be better optimized.
