More like **all of the 00XX OVAs**, that is. Even the Stardust Memory Gundams need an upgrade to the modern standard. Plus, they even managed to cough up the GP04G in U.C. Engage, so they should make a scaled-down version of the RE/100, right?
The Alex had so much development and refinement potential. Shame Anaheim keep pushing more extravagant MSs after the OYW. The Feds would have much better in house development capability if they didn't cheap out and bought finished products from Anaheim instead.
Poor Kampfer... never stood a stance *still haunted by that scene* I dunno why gundam wiki reference that the GM Custom and GM Cannon II were not base off of the Alex Gundam when you can clearly see the resemblence (GM Custom having the backpack and GM Cannon II having the Chobam Armor)
They weren't CANONICALLY based on the Alex... But they and the Alex were all designed by Hajime Katoki. He has a habit of re-using designs for early UC suits. Even his redesign of the RX-78-2 is basically the GM Custom with the Powered GM's shoulders and shield, a new backpack, and the RX-78-2's head, armaments, and paint job.
@@fripplicious7466 Personally, I don't like how Katoki changed the RX-78-2's shield. What makes it more puzzling is the fact that the G-Fighter Ver.Ka features the shield that HAS the old-style cross on it.
Ray Tsang I agree it does remind me of the FAMAS. Also I dont think it's a beam rifle. It has a magazine which indicates that it fires projectiles (bullets) rather than energy beams.
It was last week when I was resolved in never getting this model kit, pictures online made the head look awful. Then after your review I have to take it all back... Why does your reviews make Gunpla I doubt look awesome?! Your reviews have actually influenced me in buying more then a handful of Gunpla over the last year-ish, Bandai need to sponsor you damn it....
John Cole It's just my opinion, but I sort of like the Tristan because it gives alot of modification oppertunities for those who like to mod their kits and don't mind the effort and time needed. But from a straight built, it's crap.
I'm buying this kit this coming March next year, since March is like International Women's Month and Chris Mackenzie is the first female Gundam pilot...
Bullpup Beam Rifle, that's rather unique. This needs a new kit, especially as the spiritual mama to the Duel Gundam and its assault shroud. I like it more with the armor off, but the armor does make sense in that it was a test unit, and they applied the tech from it to the GM Cannon II, so I am sure it helped with gathering test data, like you said.
I think the chobbham armor is basically just padding when they launched the suit at the beginning of 0080. It is just extremely impractical for defense because of how many features it blocks and they'd have to divert resources to collect it if the pilot ejected it during battle.
I really want a revive of this. The Alex is one of my favorite Gundam designs. The legs are just sexy as hell, and the arm Gatlings are among the coolest on-board weapon systems on a Gundam ever. Oh well. I had to settle with the Ver ANIME figure.
Also, the Alex was not the last HG to be stuck with a toothpick. The HG Gundam Exia and all variants of the Union Flag are saddled with the useless toothpick and there might be more 00 High Grade kits that have it.
Still, a vast improvement over the Level 3 HG kit. Currently the Alex is being used as a test case for licensing in China and S. Korea, where larger-scale (more expensive) kits made from resin and vinyl are presently being marketed. Also, the Alex is currently available as a 'fix-configuration' die-cast figure, which offers many more options and is considerably more expensive again. When contracts with these products are fulfilled an RG release of the NT-1 will undoubtedly follow, which will render this kit effectively obsolete.
In defense of the CHOBHAM armor, there ARE small vents in the chest section, so the Alex would probably just overhead a bit faster. As for the covered thrusters, well they would only be a problem for maneuvering in zero gravity. Now as for the front skirts, that was unacceptable. It would've been really nice if there were opening ports for the gatling guns in the forearms. Also, the armor DID save the Alex from the Kampfer's most powerful weapon, so at least it did it's job.
Kyle Morgan but 1 little deadly flaw. The armor itself weight the gundam a lot and yeah, it did save the gundam but its because it not ready to deploy. If deployed, the Alex itself can actually dodge kampfer attack and remember the gundam armor is made from luna titanium, even if it took a heavy damage but if the attack is not plasma/laser level heat the body armor will just damaged with holes but will not damage the cockpit
now that we have the Master Grade we now know how the arms fire the arm vulcans with the shield still on, the shield opens just a little bit at the front for the arm to shoot out of
I really want to buy 1/144 NT-1 kit. This is not that particularly bad kit in my opinion but if bandai decide to release the revive ver in the future then it's absolutely no brainer this kit will be worse compared to the new one.
I think the armor is to make it a shield for other suits Just imagine him getting hit by a missile, protecting a GM, that's not going to damage the gundam.
Is that rifle a beam rifle or a projectile based weapon? Looks like a magazine fed gun which indicates that it fires projectiles (bullets) instead of energy beams.
It seems to make sense to me. It's heavy armor. Wouldn't you need to put it on a suit that has the thruster power to handle the weight? The Alex has crazy strong movements and thrusters, so it makes sense. Besides, the gatlings are emergency backup weapons.
I wish they'd make either an HGUC Revive or Real Grade version of this Mobile Suit. I don't understand why they haven't, since this is one of the coolest Mobile Suits in the Universal Century Timeline.
Do you know if it can purge its armor, or if it can only break off? Also, is it just me, or is this kit actually a little short? not sure if the GM Custom is supposed to be so much taller.
The reason why they added the armor was exactly because like the Mrk II it sacrificed armor for mobility theose feddies didnt think it through like had the kampher hit this without the armor it would of melted with that mine chain
If Bandai would want to be more creative, why don't they produce Build Fighters S3 featuring the Tristan and Alex and their other not-so-greatly-engineered kits. And do revive ver of them. Might help with sales more than releasing kits that are (in my opinion) getting really repetitive already.
I wonder if you could cut this thing up and mix it with the GM Custom to make a less "bricky" Alex... Probably wouldn't be worth all the work though, you would have to basically destroy two kits to make one kit.

I do hope this will get a Revive, given the Kampfer, what many people will pose this with, is clearly a much more up to date model kit.

Actually the armor of GM cannon ii was based off Alex’s Chobam armor if you read the wiki
While the Chobahm armor assembly is frustrating, the kit is a huge improvement over the original 1989 version.
9:45 I always think the NT-1 beam rifle as a FAMAS rifle with a non bullpup design...

The mg 2.0 of Alex has recently been released. I wish they can also do a revive ver of this kit in 1/144 to fix the chobam armor.

They should of made a alex custom in build fighters.
hell yeah and did you hear about the ez8 kai for season 2 of build fighters.
Yeah i hope they give a custom heavy arms another hit at the show.
Didn't happen. Sorry.
The HG Aile Strike Gundam was the last 1/144 HG kit, to come with a non transparent Beam Saber(also molded to a 1 piece hand).
Twilight Nocturne actually all hg exias were the last. And maybe the g30th rx 78 2

I came in here to watch if Tristan and Alex have the same articulation.
After watching this, well, better buy Alex.
Btw...is the scale for this kit accurate? It looks smaller than some of my other kits even when the specs say they're about the same height.
I do like added bulk that that armor brings but execution could had been better.
I think the armor is to make it a shield for other suits

Heh, now we'd get the HG Alex, HG Alex Arms, HG Alex Chobham Armor as separate kits.
I wonder if the GM sniper II can wear the chobam armor
My head canon is that the chobahm armor was experimental and made for ground type units, the rx-79s to be precise, but that's just me
I just realized after watching this, mine came with the old 1/144 decal. Really Bandai..
After I finished watching this review, I go back and re-watch the anime. The chopham armor can actually open and reveal the hidden thrusters.

well the armor was only there to keep the alex a Secret and to temporarily protect the alex

the beam rifle resembles the HK G3 battle rifle and stick the carry handle of the FAMAS on top of it...
