Thank you SO much for this clear tutorial and for being willing to share your tips! I have gone through a search of social media expert/photog blogs and RUclips videos by at least 5 other photogs and tried their methods and it NEVER looked right until now. So frustrating to see your image you painstakingly shoot and develop look like a pixelated mess on Fb. THANK YOU! Will definitely be watching more of your channel!
Bro, thanks for heading straight to the point, you were really helpful.
Oh man! Needed info to learn and keep in mind! Massive thanks bro! Thank you the share!
Really helpful - many thanks! Taking 300dpi artwork created in Adobe Illustrator into PS and exporting it out like that in PNG for Facebook has just worked a treat - thanks for solving my problem!
Fantastic tutorial Miguel! Very thorough, easy to follow and well done! Most appreciated and now a subscriber! Take care, Rick
Great tutorial here man, much appreciated :). I just want to point out that I compared an other larger file size image to the one I exported with these settings, and this looks much crisper.. It must be the 'Preserve details', nice touch.
Amazingly helpful!!!
I just started working with Photoshop and I'm really enjoying it. I really enjoy your videos also.
Amazingly helpful.
Wow! It worked for me. My picture looks clear. Thanks!
Very helpful video! Last I checked (a few months ago) there was a setting in Facebook to request that photo uploads be in “high quality”. It was not easy to find and I kept hoping that FB would just make that the default some day. Worth a look because it did make a difference.
👍👍👍 I always give the clients the pictures in three formats TIFF for printing, full res jpegs and web optimised jpegs.
I use a different technique to optimise for the web, and comparing your Instagram vs mine the results are similar ( I don’t really use FB ) for Instagram I tend to use a 4x5 ratio in portrait 1080 x1350 , Instagram max allowed, alternatives are 1080x1080 for square and 1080x864ish in landscapes, where my method is different is that I first reduce the picture resolution to 120dpi then input 1080 pixels for the width, This in Photoshop with bicubic smooth for reducing ( or something that sounds similar I am on the tablet and can’t check) The reason for the 120dpi is to accomodate for professional screens that tends to have better than the usual 72dpi, generally 100-120, and finally export for web in photoshop at 100% quality in sRGB, the files are around 1Mb...
Thank you so much for this information. 🥰❤
finaly a good way to upload great quality, thank mate!
Great video, I've been searching for a video like this, resizing is very confusing..thanks !!
Excellent tutorial, THX
I knew about the 2048, but didn’t know it was only for horizontal! And the 900/960 for portrait is something I’ll try from now on, thank you!
is 2048px for the low side, regardless of orientation.Try......(Not 960)
me too
Nice sir Thankyu (from India)
Finally took 5 years and ypu made it easy...cheers
Sir i have tried everything from resizing to sRGB format to jpeg but always my photo get compressed but your video is so much helpful i am now uploading so much quality photos on fb and insta thanx you so much sir
I have same issue. I will try
This video was very helpful. Do you have one that shows the same but for print?
Thanks my friend it was very helpful
Thanks.its working
Thank you so very much!!
Excellent lesson - have yet to try
You SAVED me!! xoxo
This png method has created just the best eBOOK cover. I don't know anything about Photoshop but I added text over an image. On Amazon, FB, IG the image looked so blurry and compressed... until you showed me how to upload sharper, clearer images!
So happy to hear it! I've been using this method for years and it has yet to disappoint 😁✌️
Thank you
another excellent video, Miguel. Thanks!
Thank you!
this was helpful
thank you for your video. It helps a lots for me.
You are the best man I'm definitely subscribing it works
I only have photoshop elements 11 but will try out some of your tips if I can figure out the work-around. My Instagram photos look great in PSE11 but when uploaded to IG, they look horrible! with some crazy colors... hope I can get this to work. TFS!
Im trying to find a video that shows exclusively how to do this in PSE. To no avail.
Straight forward tutorial however i use Affinity photo and i doesn't have the preserve details resampling method option ...it has others like Bicubic, bilinear, and two more which are difficult to remember so can you please suggest me which is best for instagram .
Worked like a champ. Also thanks for fixing my problem with ocf not firing. You fixed that issue too
Hi miguel is there any difference between this Method and save for Legacy at the end result? and whats the maximun size of Mb we should be aware before uploading the image, cause i see yours has 2Mb ive heard people saying to not get compressed in instagram is Less than 1 Mb, waiting your answers and thanks man!!
a New EGYptiAn subscriber! ThANK Uuuu
Miguel...another great video!
This was very helpful, Thank You.
Hey, thanks for sharing. Does this method work for Instagram? Same numbers applied?
Thank you! Yes, it's the same process for all social media channels.
@@MiguelQuilesJr When I try to upload to Instagram the .png file is not available. Does instagram only to .jpg
Is this gona work with the FB cover ?
Thank you for this video. I only have Photoshop Elements. It seems to have to options of saving as a .png, but none of the additional parameters you discuss at the time of "save as". I start with jpg. How do you start with a tiff? Thanks for any input -
Now THIS is useful stuff.
what about image size? i cant make the image below 100kb files. plz suggest.. its not working for me.
Question, I took 3 photos of a volcano using AEB, after merging the images in Photoshop I had a 32bit raw image, to make a jpeg I had to reduce it to 16bit by which time the image looked totally different. How can I end up with an image that justifies using AEB and post it to facebook?
Very informative video 👍
Thank you for taking the time to produce and upload this information.
Are the re-sizing values still current for September, 2018?
Thank you and yes, it's still the same 😃👍🏻
Miguel Quiles Thanks, Miguel 👍
I have been resizing my converted RAW file images, to 2048px and saving them as a .jpg using the ‘Save As’ option in Photoshop CC 2018.
I didn’t think to use the ‘Export > Export As’ function.
Thanks that helped me a lot
very helpful. However, my settings do not constrain the proportion. Not sure how to adjust this. Tips?
Thank you! Very helpful! What about if it is artwork created in Illustrator to share on Instagram? My uploaded imaged on Instagram are blurry, but the originals are high resolution.
which one is better to upload a photo on fb- pc or smartphone??
Great advice, thanks!
Only photographers realize the frustration of spending a thousand bucks to buy a high res camera, a hundred more or so for a good editor for the best possible images, only to have your girlfriend take your shots of her and run them through some cheesy "art" editor that was probably just meant for phone pictures before she posts them! 😂
One time my girlfriend just took screenshots of the photos I've sent her, And posted them! :(
@@sharonleibel wowwww lol
@@sharonleibel I've had many photographers accuse me of doing this but sometimes it doesn't matter what we do, if you're shadow banned or if you're being throttled your post quality will always be lowered no matter what. Plenty of people ask me if I'm screen recording their content of me etc and offer to help me and it's really just annoying at this point. I've been banned multiple times from both platforms in a struggle for self expression, everything I post is always and will always be blurry. The site does it to some accounts on purpose.
thanks
OK so what is the best format to save for printing?
Thnk sir ,
Does this still apply? Also, any specific on square format? Thanks :)
Great tips Miguel! Thanks so much! would you sharpen before or after the resize? Big thumb up from Italy!
thank you very much!
For FaceBook profile picture, what photo dimensions do you suggest? FB says 170 x 170 but wouldn't that make the quality of the photo awfully bad and pixelated?
How about for square size sir? , some of us are using 1080px x 1080px, is that okay? or is there another way ?
It works fine, just make sure to export it as a PNG. 👍
Awesome thanks!!!
Hi, have you noticed some changes in FB image compression recently? I did a test by uploading three types of files (tiff, jpg, png) and the quality of every image was exactly the same.
I mainly create graphics for Facebook mobile users. I have followers your suggestions but it works great in computer, I steel facing some quality issues in the mobile view. please give me some suggestion
Wow huge difference, thanks!
Great video! How do you save/export an image that you had to blur skin because the subject's skin wasn't flawless since you indicate that this method won't work when using gaussian blur, etc. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you! The method would be the same, the issue is with managing expectations. If you upload an image with blurred skin, it's still going to be blurry once you upload. The point I was making is that you can't expect it to look sharper after the upload than it originally started with the high res file.
Thanks so much for clarifying and for sharing your work and knowledge. I know it takes a lot of time and work to create content and I appreciate that very much.
can you help me what is the highest size for vertical / portrait resolution . I have tried so many but all are converted into 960 height ,not the width, not more than that
🙌❤️
Hello Miguel, how about the dpi? Can we keep it at 300? Appreciate it, thank you!
Dpi is only useful for printing.
Screens use ppi.
If you use smart phone, you can use Quick Resize & Watermark application to do it. It can execute multiple images at once
Feature:
- resize (include resize 2048 to post fb and 1080 for instagram)
- add watermark
Great vid Miguel! Would it be safe to say follow the same process for landscape photos?
Thank you! Horizontal specs are in the video as well. :)
If you upload your image with aspect ration 4x6 to Facebook it will l display it on your personal page as an aspect 4x5? Then I guess if you want to see the full 4x6 image you then need to open it? Am I misunderstanding what’s going on here?
Muchas gracias don Miguel..you rocks..
can u also this in LR? with the png and everything or it only works with Ps?
I have reduced a face photo of myself in size as it's too large but when I try to upload it onto Facebook it is still too large. What can I do to make sure the smaller photo gets shown as a smaller photo on my Facebook profile?
What editor should I use if I want to upload screencast videos to RUclips? Can anybody help me?
Excellent Miguel....new UK subscriber :D
Thank you! Happy to have you out there :)
Thank U very much.....I can't believe this....
Facebook compresses photos if they have a resolution higher than 2048 on the big side, but also if they exceed a certain size (Megabytes / Kilobytes). I don't know exactly, starting from what size, Facebook compresses the image. If you have this information, it is also very important. I think is also important at what DPI you save the photo, because that influence the size. THX!
Hi, ive a major issue. Whenever I EDIT IN > Photoshop, the image loses quality and sharpness. Ive tried exporting as 16bit TIFF and PSD and its the same issue with both. how can I export to photoshop without losing sharpness? Do I need to re-add sharpness after the PS edit?
wait, what about Instagram? does that resolution apply to Instagram too?
Yes!
I hate to admit this, but my smaller images are all a little bit soft compared to the original. :/
I followed your instructions to the letter. The results were not REAL bad, but definitely noticeable, I'm afraid.
thankyou sir
What if the photo is square? Like 1080x1080
Some tutorials suggest changing the higher number to 2048 (instead of changing the width to 960 if it is a portrait). Essentially, this is doing the same thing! Do you know if there's a difference / what works better?
Same question..
So how are we digital artist in mobile? we are blurring the skin to make it smoother even I max the canvass of the photo my quality still shit, how was that?
My export as option always get crash and it shows unknown error so I use quick png for saving image any solution to this... thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Thank You!
Thank you so much brother!
My pleasure! Hope it helps :)
Is this just PNG to face book, and a jpeg to your own website, Why do you not use export with legacy dialogue box?
Did Facebook recently change something because I have been doing this trick for a while now and pictures Uploaded to Facebook have turned out great up until today? I lost color and detail!!
Thank you for sharing this good quality and very user friendly tutorials. Highly appreciated! God Bless & Stay Safe.

Hi, is this for facebook alone or those this apply to instagram as well
Works for all social media! 👍
Thanks Miguel!
My pleasure!
How do you batch process a bunch of images at once using this method?
I know Facebook has a rather aggressive sharpening algorithm that it applies to all images, but do you sharpen anyway, and if you do is it done to the resized image?
I typically don't sharpen the image beyond normal. If you started with a shot that's in focus and sharp, then it should carry through with this process once you upload.
If you upload to instagram did colour of your photos using your phone looks the same as on pc or no
Hi mr. Miguel , I usually do the same steps but as a Jpeg and it works, I still get the quality and sharpness i want , as png the file will be bigger as i know , and about the size dialog I intended to change the percentage from 100 to around 50% , do you think it will be wrong or right? Thanks for your valid information.
Question? How would I calculate file size for a panoramic.
For social media you'd still use the same 2048 for the long end if it's a landscape orientation or 900 for portrait orientation 👍
@@MiguelQuilesJr thanks that helps a lot🙂
What is the website that you edit the pic and it is free
i did research and fb compress picture to 8bit..
Will these settings work for uploads to Instagram as well?
Yes!
