The biggest mistake you can make is by using regular "All use cement" with limestone works. It creates chemical reaction and gradually destroys the stone. Instead you should use special "Limestone cement mix" of the same mineral content. I know it from Malta, where all building are made of stone, and I was supervising to restore 600 years old UNESCO house.
A stone mason in Virginia told us the same thing about our house (1780 stone and brick colonial). You can't repoint the stone work unless you use the lime mix, he said. Along with the advice (ignored by a previous owner) never paint stone, lime wash it instead.
It's refreshing to see a couple calmly working together and more so that Louis is patient and willingly to explain or teach Millie how to do things (brick laying, concrete, circular saw, etc.).
The windows are absolutely stunning guys, you definitely nailed the vision of enhancing the stone and not detracting from it. Love your couple banter too, so cute and funny 😂
@@joost7153 I follow Jenna Phipps . She and Nicky are doing wood house reno in Vancouver area. They too do as much they can by themselves. Milly once mentioned they follow them too 😊
The amount of respect you both have for each other shines through in every video I have watched the windows look amazing looking forward to watching the Q&A one NEXT has been busy catching up😊
Wowzers! Just repeating as it perfectly describes this transformation. I wasn't expecting the exterior colour to match the stone, and it's such a good combination!
Always great when the homes getting closer to watertight and insulated. great update 2x 👍 I look out to the north sea and had the windows in my flat changed first week of January a few years ago. We have a turret with wall to ceiling windows and that was left open over night in January 🥶 (it worked out a bit cheaper as the company dont get much work in the winter)
We had the "out of stock" trouble when we retiled the faux mansard AND retiled the pool. But the choices we had turned out to look great, so yeah, happy accidents! Louie is incredible, he knows so much and works so hard! Beautiful progress ❤
Re: throwing the brick in the cement mixer while cleaning it. That reminded me off a coffee pot cleaning hack I learned long ago. Those clear glass pots that you brew coffee into? When it is clean, fill about 1/4 the way with ice then add salt and shake/spin it in a circle movement. The salt sticks to the ice and works as a scrubber! It cleans it so well and gets rid of those old stains! I went home and was floored! Afterwards, every time I went to family or friends house and saw their pot had some stains, I showed them. It was pretty cool! 😂 I am easily amused. Sorry! 😂😂
Yes my thinking exactly… and a bit less of the concrete in the black plastic bucket would be more back-friendly and it would not spill all over the place while being carried upstairs…
Fantastic! YOU HAVE THE BEST MUSIC! I follow 70+ vloggers and yours is so lovely. Hard work, great progress and fun. ❤🎉 With almost all the other vloggers I turn of the sound because of the terrible loud and bad music. 😵💫
I love the window color! For the stone in the kitchen, can you do a limewash treatment on the wall that allows the stone to show through a bit, but disguises the cement blocks and tones it down a bit? It might be nice to keep even just the one wall that way as a feature wall.
You are such a good team love watching you both and I love the windows. That’s a good trick with the brick in the mixer. You are both so good at this. See you next time👋🏻
Milly and Louis, you are doing an amazing job. Really nice to see younger people roll up their sleeves and it must feel so rewarding when you step back and see what you have accomplished. ❤ I am not trying to be mean but, Milly, are your eyebrows your own? 🤗❤️
Love watching your journey... Louis seems to be so overpowering when it comes to Milly having a go at doing anything practical...great house great journey
Love the colour of the windows blending with the stone, want to see how that looks from the street because I bet it's really elegant - but I guess that the scaffolding is in the way too much at the moment.
I absolutely love and appreciate you both buying a property that needs tremendous TLC, hard work, and a lot of renovations! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👊🏼👊🏼 Molly, please stop saying you’re sorry, we love seeing anything you guys do and I would love to see some pictures of your other properties and projects that you’ve done!! The house is so beautiful and has tremendous character, I love the idea of buying run down, un cared for homes and rejuvenating them back into livable homes!1 Molly do you really think the house may be haunted with bum touching ghosts?🤣😂 Keep up the great work, and thank you for taking time to video, it’s amazing watching your property or mansion, become a beautiful home!
Beautiful windows! And what a transformation! I know it was incredibly expensive, but it’s an investment that will pay dividends in the long run. The renovation is going great! 🇺🇸
Ooooo windows look lush! I've done a fair bit of DIY in the past, and Milly reminds me of me, wants to do all the tasks, but just isn't strong enough for certain things, even so, they can usually be done, just takes longer etc.
Great video Milly how can you look so gorgeous while working Louis your a lucky man . Outstanding work on the house you two are amazing and should be so proud of your accomplishments .Sending good vibes from California
Morning guys, those new windows look absolutely fantastic, I have just replaced the large window in my main bedroom, so have now replaced all the windows in the house, all double glazed, so I know how you feel, as for your brick laying you get top marks, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia,
Before puting concrete in You have to make surface wet. Otherways it’s not gonna stick and be like separete block there! Also all rocks what U throw in must be wet.

You’re correct there, a lime mix should of been used.
A stone mason in Virginia told us the same thing about our house (1780 stone and brick colonial). You can't repoint the stone work unless you use the lime mix, he said. Along with the advice (ignored by a previous owner) never paint stone, lime wash it instead.
Wow that’s important I hope they’ve seen your post about the mix!
Really hope they read this!!

Love the banter between you two. Great vid guys, keep up the great work. Nice big sleepy yawn 🥱 towards the end 😅
You are supposed to stagger course your brick with the existing brick. Plus, I’m pretty sure that some rebar in that slab pour is required.

I would leave exposed stone where you can, especially around doors, it’s gorgeous.

Great progress, a bit more air in the barrow tyre would make life so much easier...
Yes my thinking exactly… and a bit less of the concrete in the black plastic bucket would be more back-friendly and it would not spill all over the place while being carried upstairs…
I love seeing this coming together and all the sweat equity that you both are putting into the restoration of your home❤

Nice work, hope you kept all those old windows to make a glasshouse/garden room?
