You are an excellent resource!! This is the only place I could find that adequately explained the differences between old and new, and the fact that you address the killerB mods as well is fantastic, thank you!
I wish this video had a bit more "nuts and bolts" data, such as oil capacity difference, what the difference in depth, etc. I have a 2010 Forester with an EJ253, and I'm looking for more oil capacity and a pan that doesn't hang down as much (impact risk). Also, I would think the two baffles in the older style pan would more effectively reduce oil slosh during hard cornering and such, and give the oil more time for bubbles to work out as it returns to the pan. It is true that the old pan doesn't have clearance for the newer equal length exhaust (I suspect this was Subaru's biggest reason for narrowing the pan bottom). However, I ditched my equal length exhaust because it wrapped fairly tightly around the oil filter and made replacing it a royal pain. On a side note, I love the "Subaru sound" I gained in the process. My Forester is not that far above stock, so I really did not notice any performance or mileage losses after going from EL to UEL. On a higher performance engine, an EL exhaust may make a tangible difference.
Great video. It's very convenient to get the part numbers. The only thing missing was part number for OEM pickup that fits that oil pan. Where I live, the shipping alone for the killer b pickup cost more than an OEM pickup...
I have a jdm ej205. I’m in the process of doing this exact swap. Just found out I cannot use the factory oil pickup. The brace for the oil pickup hits the new baffle and obstructs it from bolting up. Might go with the killer bee, not sure yet.
I bought a killer b pick up tube and baffle for mine I’m thinking about just cutting the top baffle out of the pan with a pair of tin snips and leave the second one in the bottom.
Do naturally aspirated EJ20 Subaru's need that for good measure? I plan to get 2006-2007 EJ204D Legacy(it was offered here in europe briefly with 165hp tune) I plan to drive it somewhat enthusiasticly and once in a blue moon on a racetrack.
Thanks man! Don't think this will help me now though lol. Bought an 02 wagon, did the oil change, and Abt 500 miles or so after buying it I think she's spun a bearing I'm so upset
I'm replacing the EJ25 in my 2003 Outback with a JDM EJ20. The EJ20 has the new oil pan on it and the EJ25 has the older style pan. Do I need to install the old style pan on the EJ20? I know that part of the difference is related to the exhaust routing new vs. old.
You can use the new style pan, and it’s def a better design. Just make sure you use the corresponding dipstick and dipstick tube, should be all good!!! Cheers!!!!
Part numbers? Like so I can copy and paste? Of the new baffle and the pan and the new oil pick up? And has anyone ever tried repairing an old style oil pick up ie adding brackets and rewelding the broken pipe? And they look brazed together
Would an alternative temporary solution for someone ready to go to the track be just filling the oil about a quart higher than the dipstick wants, or would that cause oil pressure issues and/or cause the crank to possibly dip into the case oil?
Hey Luke I have a 93 Subaru 2.2 in my 63 VW It out of a legacy. Do they make that reverse flow kit for that motor. Thanks Darren. I enjoy the videos thanks
Hey Luke, I'm in the prosses of doing this to my 2002 wrx. Everything is ordered and on the way but I did not order the oil dipstick guide tube. Do you know if this part is essential? or will my current guide tube work with the new 2.5L dipstick? Awesome videos by the way, I have followed and watched many of your videos thought my build!! Please help :)
I have been informed that 06+ oil pan will not fit on ej205 engine without changing the ehaust manifold to the later style. You don't mention it in the video, ca you please comment on that?
So there will be an advantage to switch to the new oil pan design? Or if you are not doing rally/ autoX etc it isn't necessary to upgrade to the new one?
Think the old one is fine for casual daily driving use. Lots of other areas to address for that type of driving - AOS for example, very important for a daily driver.
Been wondering if the Sti dipstick sticks in the pan or just inside the tube that sits slightly out of the pan I know the wrx goes in the pan about a inch but I noticed my Sti dipstick doesn’t go in the pan but sits about a quarter of an inch from the inside of the pan I’m sure oil goes up into the the tube but not quite sure
hey dude great video. So i have a v2 sti ej20g thinking of doing these upgrades. So just to clarify its the later 2007 era sump (with baffle dip stick etc) and the killer B pick up that would be the go to over the older standard design ? Thanks
When you upgrade to the later oil pan design, you’ll have to upgrade to the newer baffle too. The OEM baffles are pretty cheap so it shouldn’t be too bad. Cheers!
Lol. I think the spacing on the inside is fairly critical to get right, and since a new OEM pan is only about $90, I wouldn’t want to risk damaging the engine to offset that cost. But good question buddy! 👍
I'm trying to fit a killer b windage tray and oil pick up to my ej204. I think I have to also upgrade the oil pan. My question is, can I fit an EJ25, fa20 or fb20 oil pan to fit the new pick up?
Are you talking Subaru in general or just WRX? My 2000 Forester is totally different. Kind of like a cross between the two. It's rounded bottom, single baffle no notch ?
Loving your informative videos Luke. I have a couple of questions now though. You said if one uppgrades the old style flat pan to the newer 07 style you need to swap to the tube and dipstick for that pan, but what about the Killer B one? is that designed to go with the same tube and stick as the 07 revisioned pan or does it use some custom tube and stick? Also are the pickup itself the same across all EJ motors and if there is any differences what are they? I would definitively want to go the extra step for the Killer B setup myself for that little bit extra peace of mind when going for a spirited drive with a built engine, but that new style pan is definitively a worthy uppgrade for most of the old subies. Hopefully I will get to heavily uppgrade my EDM SF5 turbo forester one day. and your channel will be one of my go to for when Im doing any maintainance, repairs or uppgrades. Great video cheers!
The pickup is different. The newer style pan is deeper and has the pickup screen located in another location than the flat bottom pan. Google some images of the pickups and you can see the differences
Yes agree 100%. Pickup is different dimension (ie pickup location) for new style pan. Killer B setup is the way to go if you can afford it for sure! Yes, the Killer B Pan goes with the tube and dipstick from the new style. Cheers and thanks!! 🤙🤙
Oil pan new-economy. Exhaust pipe creator - not egineer , crazy. 4,5 l oil pan old. 3,5-4l new! It`s all, to say about oil pan. Exhaust pipe heating on oil pan. Oil temp go to up.

A friend of mine converted his old oil pan to a new one himself for free!
(He set his car on a rock)
Some 2006s made later in the year have the new style pan. My 06 fxt has the new style pan.
Thanks!! Guess the transition year was actually 2006 - good to share!! Cheers!
@@SubaruONLY my 2005 legacy gt has the new style..
Yes, good call man!!! 👍👍🤙
@@SubaruONLY yep all ej25 turbo engines have this pan.
Good to know. Thanks for confirming! 👍
Great video. It's very convenient to get the part numbers. The only thing missing was part number for OEM pickup that fits that oil pan. Where I live, the shipping alone for the killer b pickup cost more than an OEM pickup...
Thanks man. That shipping is crazy, whoa!!!
I like the way you present the content.
Thank you. Means a lot to hear this feedback man. Much appreciated. Motivates me to make more big time!!!

Great video man this is definitely happening on my next Oil Change, thanks for the info
Legit! 👊

Tons of info I was looking for. Thank you!
Awesome. Glad it helped!
i have a legacy 03 , engine EJ 25 , can i change for one of those, thanks
Thanks! I'm doing this on my 2002 impreza build
anyone know what oil pan the R sport 2006 hawkeye has?
This channel is awesome! Thanks man!
Thanks back! 👊

Ahhh, sorry to hear man. That’s never a good time at all.
@@SubaruONLY Good news is, I got it back just under a month ago, about 750 miles on it right now. Running fine, need a tune bad though.
Nice!!! Good place to be! 👍
JUST WHAT I NEEDED

Anybody know if I can use this dipstick tube for my 2.5 DOHC? 1998 OB

Will this upgrade using the Subaru made parts (oil pan, baffle, dipstick & dipstick tube) work for my 2005 Baja Sport?
Isn't that oil pan used in the twin scroll Subaru models?
Would an alternative temporary solution for someone ready to go to the track be just filling the oil about a quart higher than the dipstick wants, or would that cause oil pressure issues and/or cause the crank to possibly dip into the case oil?
Yeah not a good idea, just get the newer pan, and the pickup. It’s a lot cheaper than a new short block
Hey Luke I have a 93 Subaru 2.2 in my 63 VW It out of a legacy. Do they make that reverse flow kit for that motor. Thanks Darren. I enjoy the videos thanks
Is it a must-do mod for ej205 before even occasional trackday usage?
What’s the difference between 11109AA151 and 11109AA131? Trying to decide which to get as an upgrade for my ej205 oil pan.
Sorry, don’t know those specific PNs. Might just be an updated version.

While upgrading this does this new pan require more oil or the same amount

Dipstick tube is the same from 1996 to 2012 on all subarus
good add - thanks!

Probably too late now but they are the same I looked into it. Just need the dipstick itself

Yep, exactly!!! 🎯🎯🎯
I have an 96 JDM WRX STI that has the stock EJ20K. Would this work with my engine as well??
Yep
100% 🤙
01 outback 2.5 ej205 will these parts fit from this video?
Yes, believe so. 👌
Even though it’s a N/A
is it possible to reuse the baffle without upgrading it to the PN 10915AA010 ?
When you upgrade to the later oil pan design, you’ll have to upgrade to the newer baffle too. The OEM baffles are pretty cheap so it shouldn’t be too bad. Cheers!
@@SubaruONLY Thanks Luke! I'm going to order the new baffle too then
Could one potentially heat up, and bang a flat bottom in?

I’m on a budget rn and I was wondering if I can just bolt the sti pan on to my ej205 without the other stuff?
Sorry, you’ll need to do it all. The baffle has to match the pan, etc.
I'm trying to fit a killer b windage tray and oil pick up to my ej204. I think I have to also upgrade the oil pan. My question is, can I fit an EJ25, fa20 or fb20 oil pan to fit the new pick up?

@@SubaruONLY ah yeah I see. I'll need the ej25 oil pan by the sounds of it. Cheers legend!
@@SubaruONLY actually, I've been meaning to get your expert thoughts in relation to baffle plates. Is it worthy a upgrade?
Yep, that’s it. Cheers buddy!!! 👍
I think so. It’s one of those things that only helps and the OEM would likely have done it if it were cheaper.

Excellent. Love this kind of stuff. I feel like a Padawan learner lol
Ha!! Thanks! lol. 😁😁😁
Do you have a part number for the new pan?
Good info
Because I haven’t seen you assemble a short block, I’ve got to ask. Have you made a video for assembling a short block?
Not yet. Check out Subie performance. Highly recommended!!!
Nice video where can i buy these parts thanks?
Amazon, eBay, or Subaru dealer for the OEM parts. Killer B or IAG for the pickup. Cheers!
Will this fit my ej20 motor 2002 to 2004 2.0
Yes. It fits for sure.
Isn't this pretty much a 2.0l vs 2.5l pan???
The 2.5 pans were wider plat bottom before 06/07 transition too. So the 2.5 pans had both styles as far as I know.
Put on the new pan and an oil cooler. You get better oil pick up, cooler oil temps and more oil volume. If you don`t track your car save your money.
Totally. That’s my plan and it gives the same or better oil temp control than using the Killer B Pan. 100% on target! ✅
👍👍👍👍
