We lucky that we have a concert from 1981 with such a good quality because it was being filmed/recorded for broadcast by MTV (when MTV played music!) using the best available technology.
Steve Perry is one of those few artists who sounds just as good live as he does recorded. Journey has soo many great songs you're in for some phenomenal music!! 🎶 🎵 ❤
I became a fan of Journey when I first heard them in 1978. I couldn’t stop singing along with Steve ever since then, especially when I was cleaning my house. Being a 68 year old woman, I am still a massive fan of Steve and the band!
Yes, yes, yes please more Journey with Steve Perry. The Escape concert was epic, every song was perfect (Escape, Lovin touchin Squeezin and more) the band in this formation played so harmoniously with each other, it's a shame that it fell apart. Journey without Steve is no longer the same
Thank you for shouting me out you two are the best. Remember Steve Perry never sang with an “in ear” device no auto tune nothing just pure pure talent but his last belt was soooo long and then he says “good night” like nothing wow
I'm so happy to see this live performance reaction today😁. Journey may have the ballads down, but they also have high-energy songs like this one! This has always been one of my favorites!!! Others include "Stone In Love," "Wheel In The Sky," and many more. Thank you, Joseph, for requesting this one😊 Let's Go! 💃
Hi Mare_bear, I’m glad they played my request I kept checking everyday lol but I love every single song in this concert I even have the dvd. I like Arnell but don’t get me wrong, Steve Perry is Journey, Joseph
Oh yes! It's slower, but "Lights" is such a Special song❤🎉 I also absolutely adore " Sweet and Simple" Slower too but so so good!! My problem is I love Journey/Steve Perry so much that Every song is great and special!!...its hard to choose one to request. Energy filled songs or slower ballad....no doubt the entire band is awesome...And Steve...well.....my my❤
@Mare_bear738 Agreed & Understood..I suggested it because it often gets overlooked/forgotten..As many others do like,, Smith "Baby It's You",, Stealers Wheel "Star",, New Radicals "Someday We'll Know" & others.
You guys need to do more from this concert. You won’t be disappointed. Do Stone In Love, Who’s Crying Now, Still They Ride, Escape, Keep On Running, or really any. You can’t go wrong.
The chorus is used in one or more commercials and the song was also in the film "Caddyshack." "Stone in Love" is another banger from this concert (Live in Houston - 1981).
I remember hearing the chorus in a car dealership's (might have been a local one) TV ad a number of years ago. I wasn't familiar with the song at the time, so I didn't recognize it as a Journey song. It was years later when I made the connection.
@@g3synth205It was used for a local car dealership here too, in the ’90s, IIRC. Funny enough, the dealership was called Annie Rae Chevrolet, and they tweaked the lyrics to make it fit the dealership name. I thought it was kinda clever.
This was played super fast because it's the encore - it's almost double time. Also as Journey had more and more songs to get through over the years they started speeding up the tempo of a lot of them. You guys should listen to the studio version when you get a chance. Thanks for the reaction as always!
I saw Journey in Dallas Texas back in the 80’s and they were amazing. Sadly the arena was torn down in 2008. I also saw Genesis and a couple of other bands there too. Good memories.
Great reaction, Sam and Phil! I always enjoyed Journey. You'll have to check out the first episode of AGT for this year. A contestant sang 'Don't Stop Believing' and it was an amazing cover.
The original Journey band before Perry was incredible. Perry was a great addition but loved the original lineup. Two Santana musicians with Gregg Rollie and Neil Schon Then George Tickner, Ansley Dunbar and Ross Valery. I saw them before Perry many times in the mid 70s. They blew you away live.
This was a great hit ! my friend s band were playing in bars and clubs and they were playing this song ! that s what i remember when i hear it ! I have the organ they were using back in the early 80s ! it s in front of me in my kitchen, right now ! lol ! 😋😎
This was exactly the way I saw this performance! It was so much fun. being 15. seeing my favorite group 2nd row! They brought so much energy and just overall greatness when they put on a show! Steve sounded the same on the first song as he did on the last song hours later,Just Incredible I was very blessed to have seen them twice w/Steve!
Omggg cant believe you guys did Journey again!! Love love your reactions! Please react to Stone in Love + Keep on Runnin from the same tour 1981❤ do not watch one without the other😂 you’ll miss the feeling!
Journey - Escape, Styx - Paradise Theatre, and R.E.O. Speedwagon - Hi Infidelity were the first albums I purchased as a kid. I played them non stop until my folks went crazy. All great bands. Music just is no longer the same as that era. You should check out Journey Stone in Love from the same concert. Great fast paced song with one of the best guitar solos and outros of the genre. Neil was so underrated as a guitarist.
If you ever really want to hear Steve Perry's voice at its finest, go listen to "Good Morning Girl". There is no live version, unfortunately, but his range is just amazing.
I don't know why more RUclipsrs don't react to this song. It's my favorite Steve Perry era Journey song. That guitar solo, although short, is just blistering. I mention the "Steve Perry era" because it's only been a few years since I discovered early Journey ("Pre Steve Perry) here on RUclips, and it's pretty awesome. Some of it is almost like progressive rock. Pre Steve Perry, Journey had Gregg Rolie in the band as one of the lead singers and the keyboardist. He is most famous for his work in Santana. Gregg Rolie is the singer on "Black Magic Woman".
You guys really need to react to the Escape song from this concert!!! Also........Where Were You, Stone In Love, Dead Or Alive and Line Of Fire (from this Houston concert)' And also........Chain Reaction, Edge Of The Blade and Message Of Love!!
Their #1 banger is "Separate Ways," but be sure to listen to the FULL 5:27 version and NOT the Official Video which is actually chopped by a full-minute.
@@Mare_bear738 True (about the video), but the biggest issue with the video is that it cuts a full minute out of such an amazing tune. And I'm with you... one of my favorites. 👌
I'm so glad you guys are doing these songs. I'm just amazed (and glad at the same time) that it took so long to get through these great classics! Oh man, i feel so blessed to be able grow up to this music as well as MANY other bands during this era. I'm really bummed that the current music didn't follow through for the ear like it used to be :( ...Thank you for the reactions, i appreciate you guys 💞
Any Way You Want It is from the album DEPARTURE. The studio version on that album peaked at a respectable #23 in the BILLBOARD Hot 100. That was in 1980.
Have you guys done "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" yet? Excellent Journey song to consider doing next, but I guess you can say that about pretty much any Journey song.
This song made an unexpected appearance in the movie Caddyshack, with Rodney Dangerfield (who you've reacted to before) dancing to it.😂 One under-the-radar Journey song you might check out is "Chain Reaction"--though the beginning of it might jolt you out of your seat!!
Not only is this my favorite Journey song but my favorite song period. I love the way it starts off hot and never stops throughout. The best version of this song is on the "Captured" CD. Back in the day, 1980, this came out as a two album set. It was recorded from live concerts of which I was at one of them. It's obviously their older stuff and songs like "Don't stop believein" and "Faithfully" and "Open Arms" etc, are not on it. I guess all their songs are older stuff. Side 2 of the second album was saved for their best songs at that time. It first song on that side is "Lovin, touchin squeezin" then "Wheel in the sky" then hell yes, "Any Way You Want It." Best version of that song ever. Then the final song is one hardly anyone knows about today and I never have understand why it wasn't played more. If your looking for another Journey song to react to, this is the one. The last song on the "Captured" CD has two names. "Hopelessly in Love"or "Parties Over" which ever you choose. Anyway it is a great song and love the way it starts out. Trust me you will love it. I have never seen anyone react to it so be the first. believen
Have you seen caddy shack? Anyway you want it is featured. I love when Sam dances, she looks lost in the music. It's like Sam forgets you two, are shooting a video😁.
Steve perry the Best male voice ever no one cant touch Steve perry voice
We lucky that we have a concert from 1981 with such a good quality because it was being filmed/recorded for broadcast by MTV (when MTV played music!) using the best available technology.
Great stage performance!!
"stone in love" from the same tour is awesome.
That's another banger!
I agree! 😊
💥🎸🥁💯🥳💃❣️
Journey's most rock song. Love the riff
No one can sign like Steve Perry the best Malé voice ever
The official video of this song is pure fire!!! Handsome young Steve Perry. Can’t take your eyes off of him the entire video. A must watch!!!🔥🔥🔥
Most definitely! 😳
Totally agree. Steve's energy and the totally incredible way he expresses emotion is amazing.
Completely different vibe, though, and about half the speed. Steve smoulders into the camera!
They introduced a "new" song "Separate Ways" which is a true Banger!
Journey - Wheel In The Sky (Live in Osaka 1980 version it is epic
Wheel In The Sky⭐Lights⭐ are two good songs as well🎸
Stone in love should be your next & anytime
Journey: “Stone in Love”
While golfing in the movie "Caddy Shack," Rodney Dangerfield turned the radio on from his golf bag and danced, to the song. Peace!
Funny movie own it
What he said 👆
So what? So let’s dance!
Stone in Love, Keep on Running, Lovin, Touchin, Squeezing.
Yes, yes, yes please more Journey with Steve Perry. The Escape concert was epic, every song was perfect (Escape, Lovin touchin Squeezin and more)
the band in this formation played so harmoniously with each other, it's a shame that it fell apart. Journey without Steve is no longer the same
What a great time to be alive! 😎
Thank you for shouting me out you two are the best. Remember Steve Perry never sang with an “in ear” device no auto tune nothing just pure pure talent but his last belt was soooo long and then he says “good night” like nothing wow
I was fourteen in 81 & saw them during this tour in Seattle @ the Seattle Center Coliseum, now the Key Arena. Fire 🔥😘✊🤙
I was at that same show at 16. Brought my girlfriend to it. Had her on my shoulders almost the entire show.
This was an encore at the 81 Houston concert. The energy they had after a long concert with no breaks is amazing.
Holy shit, this was an encore? It looks like they just started their set...
*sighs*
They don't make bands like they used to.
I'm so happy to see this live performance reaction today😁. Journey may have the ballads down, but they also have high-energy songs like this one! This has always been one of my favorites!!! @theshop62 ☺️ Hi Joseph, I couldn't agree more, and I'm glad they played your request, too. Thanks again 😊
Mother Father - performance from this concert is another one to check out!
Another beautiful MUST HEAR Classic,, Journey "Lights"..TRUST ME on this one!! 🔥
Oh yes! It's slower, but "Lights" is such a Special song❤🎉 I also absolutely adore " Sweet and Simple" Slower too but so so good!! Followed by “Anytime “. A total must!
After “Lights”, that is.
Lights/Stay Awhile in Japan, I think in 1980. Best live version of those two songs.
Stone in Love and Separate Ways! Both excellent upbest songs. 🎶🙂🎶
Kudos to drums and bass as well, they slay too, giving the song it's drive.
Applebee's commercial. I'm like really? 🤔🤪

That entire concert was incredible. Thanks for sharing this song!
Next up:
Wheel in the Sky
Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'
Wait until they get a load of wheel in the sky from this concert lol
@markk4941: they'd already reacted to "Lovin,Touchin,Squeezin"
Keep in mind this is the encore! Steve's vocals are insane! I was there for this tour along with many others
The band was fantastic in concert!!!
Keep on Running & Stoned in Love. This concert too
Highly recommend Lights/Stay Awhile live in Osaka, Japan 1980. Steve Perry's voice on display big time
This was played super fast because it's the encore - it's almost double time. Also as Journey had more and more songs to get through over the years they started speeding up the tempo of a lot of them. You guys should listen to the studio version when you get a chance. watch the video
The best version of this song is on the "Captured" CD/
.. Once again, the pride of Hanford, CA at his finest!
Hey, Phil and Sam.
Another high tempo song that Journey has in their library is "Separate Ways"
A must! Well known song! Love it!!!
They're playing this tempo almost double time! Journey was my first concert back in '80 and they were amazing
I saw Journey in Dallas Texas back in the 80’s and they were amazing. Sadly the arena was torn down in 2008. I also saw Genesis and a couple of other bands there too. Good memories.
Journey is amazing live. Try stone in love and loving touching squeezing.
Ealry Journey is sooo good. . . You should do Feelin That Way/Anytime which have to be done together.
Another awesome Journey song!!!❤❤❤
That's how you end a concert! 🔥
ABSOLUTE BANGER! 🔥
JOURNEY - " STONE IN LOVE " Studio Version. @ND " WHO'S CRYING NOW " Studio Version. 2 more Amazing songs from their ESCAP3 album
Great reaction, Sam and Phil! I always enjoyed Journey. You'll have to check out the first episode of AGT for this year. A contestant sang 'Don't Stop Believing' and it was an amazing cover.
I second this
3 words: Stone In Love!!! 🔥
Steve Smith is an excellent drummer and does a great solo in this show might want to check that one out
I know you have reacted to Open Arms by Journey before but the live version from the escape tour is absolutely flawless! You NEED to hear it!
"Feeling That Way/Anytime" should be on your list. Both together, uninterrupted. Studio. Part of the evolution to the Journey you mow know.
Stone in love from this concert is also great high energy!
They seemed on top of the world then.
I saw them on this tour at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tx. They sold out three consecutive nights.
Epic!
Steve Smith is a monster behind the kit!
The Osaka concert is really good too ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The original Journey band before Perry was incredible. Perry was a great addition but loved the original lineup. Two Santana musicians with Gregg Rollie and Neil Schon Then George Tickner, Ansley Dunbar and Ross Valery. I saw them before Perry many times in the mid 70s. They blew you away live.
Journey always gives its all. Love this song. Love your reactions!
And on top of everything, this is the second song of the encore from this concert and the energy is still outstanding!!!
I saw them on this tour in 1982. I finally ordered the DVD, and it'll be here tomorrow.
This was a great hit ! my friend s band were playing in bars and clubs and they were playing this song ! that s what i remember when i hear it ! I have the organ they were using back in the early 80s ! it s in front of me in my kitchen, right now ! lol ! 😋😎
I saw them on this same tour. it was one of the best concerts I've ever been too. they were all at the top of their game.
Me too I thing but in Atlanta GA. No one sat down during the concert.
I WAS INTO JOURNEY MANY MANY YEARS AGO I LOVE THEM!!!!
By the way, please check out Journey “Lovin’,Touchin’,Sqeezin’”
Feeling that way is a must do
❤❤❤🥰🔥🔥🔥
Omggg cant believe you guys did Journey again!! Love love your reactions! Please react to Stone in Love + Keep on Runnin from the same tour 1981❤ do not watch one without the other😂 you’ll miss the feeling!
Yes, Keep On Runnin is a banger too❤ and Stone In Love, of course. ❤
Hey I know there’s nobody that will take his place , but I’ve seen Arnell twice and he does a pretty damn good job
Journey - Escape, Styx - Paradise Theatre, and R.E.O. Speedwagon - Hi Infidelity were the first albums I purchased as a kid. I played them non stop until my folks went crazy. All great bands. Yes! I had all of these too and I agree,I also had Foreigner-4,,such GREAT music back then!
I installed a cassette deck in my 1970 Buick Electra and played all of those tapes while cruising. The early 80’s were the best.
I was there for the concert in 1981 at the Summit it sounds great .
Great song and I have heard it at pro hockey and local hockey games. Stone in love is my personal favorite Journey song 😊
The 80's rocked
Lol Steve's in his 70s now probably not running like that these days what energy 😂
Greatest concert I’ve ever attended
The first time I heard this song was the very end/bloopers from Charlie's Angeles 2 Full Throttle.
If you ever really want to hear Steve Perry's voice at its finest, go listen to "Good Morning Girl". There is no live version, unfortunately, but his range is just amazing.

Yes, early Journey progressive❤
Stone in love should be your next
Love your reactions! Can't wait till you get "long way there" Little River Band. One of 3 best guitar solos' + about 12 transitions.
You guys really need to react to the Escape song from this concert!!!
Also........Where Were You, Stone In Love, Dead Or Alive and Line Of Fire (from this Houston concert)'
And also........Chain Reaction, Edge Of The Blade and Message Of Love!!
How hard does it have to be to sprint around the stage and still have your breath to sing.
Hard!
And seeing this is their SECOND encore song after a full concert.
Their #1 banger is "Separate Ways," but be sure to listen to the FULL 5:27 version and NOT the Official Video which is actually chopped by a full-minute.
Love "Separate Ways! " I know..the video is a little cringe...its almost so cringe its good! Regardless, the song itself is a banger!

This song was in the Tom Cruise movie Rock Of Ages! 🔥
Always love your Guys reactions! You have to do the song “Dixie Highway” from their live album called journey captured!

How is it possible to have never heard this song before?
I saw them on this tour either a few days before or after the Houston show in Dallas. Unbelievable!! My first big stadium concert.
Ya, this song has been everywhere. It reminds me of thr movie Caddyshack😂😂. It is a little faster but still awesome ❤❤
This song was used in both State Farm and Southwest commercials.
Yes, that's right. I remember that now. Ok, Monday morning, I'm switching to State Farm. Lol, just kidding...🤔 😊
Phil & Sam for yet another side of Journey check out their song Walks Like A Lady.
This is one of my faves by them!!

I still have a t-shirt from this tour
... my kids are wearing it now
this song was in the Bill Murry and Rodney Dangerfield classic movie Caddy Shack
