After all, most of it is just simple verse and chorus-style songs, sometimes with a solo (e.g. a cadenza) but no development. And while we might be impressed by some rock guitarist shredding a solo it's still not as impressive as the stuff that Beethoven managed in his late piano sonatas or Mozart in his Requiem. Actually Mozart himself was a highly formulaic composer but his bag of compositional tricks was so big that it's completely irrelevant that he did in fact follow a formula in every single one of his works.

I actually wonder what composers like Beethoven or Mozart would think about the music we have nowadays. Maestro Segerstam seems to be confused.
