The story about the tomatoes and lead poisoning is true. For about 200 years, the British never ate tomatoes because of it. The very rich people used to have pewter plates made with lead, which the acid in tomatoes would basically extract the lead from the pewter. That's why pewter no longer has lead in it.
That's the beauty of it, almost everything he says has a foundation of truth behind it. It's just that he is the filter by which we receive the information.
Lots of the things Karl says are based in truth. But the way he tells it with minimal information or exaggeration makes it hilarious. Ricky said something once like, “You could have Professor Stephen Hawking whispering in your ear, but once it’s gonna come out nonsense.” Which is why we love Karl
Lmao... I love how much you guys find this funny too... I've always known humour is universal, it's just obvious. But, it's nice to have proof of it, cause when people... British people (I'm from the UK myself) say this a lot like ''Americans don't get...'' and ''British and American humour is so different''... NO it's not. We have different accents and references but humour is the same! Like, yeah our mainstream shows have some different vibes n themes as in... UK have more losers, and Americans have more winners / pessimism vs. optimism etc. but we still all find the same things funny!
On the topic of medical marvels, there was a guy in a coma for about 20 years who woke up, his story was on the news at the time, but soon afterwards he tried to get out of bed alone and hit his head and went back into a coma for a year or so before he died, how fucked is that.
Imagine trying to explain to someone who just woke up from a coma what has happened in the world in the last 5-6 years. It would put them back that coma.
