One of the most, if not the most loved hockey teams of all time. Not just by Latvian fans, but by all hockey fans. The sturdy porcupine defense combined with being lethal when in attack, and all this while being spurred on by the die hard Latvian fans. As a Swedish fan this Latvian team have been a joy to watch, a truly deserved medal for this extremely hard working team 🇱🇻❤️🇸🇪

@@ilarivaisanen I agree, the reason I feel so strongly that it’s good thing for these countries that do not the resources (or chose not to use them) for a state sponsored hockey program is good for the sport of hockey. Congratulations Latvia for a historical medal ! Your team showed a great fighting spirit and managed to win over Sweden and USA. These world championships have been very surprising Germany getting to the final final and Latvia to the Bronze. Before the quarterfinals the four biggest candidates for the champions were Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and USA. First three of them didn't win their quarterfinals and also USA missed the medals.

This isn't an accident or even a big upset at this point. They beat Czechia, Switzerland (who beat Canada and was otherwise undefeated), Sweden, and now USA. And they very nearly beat Canada in the semis.

its not that it fell in their lap, more to do with other teams overlooking latvia to get to more important games and the usa not giving a hoot about a bronze medal, only canada gave 1/2 an effort against the latvians but unlike everyone else, came out on top, the real question is how does every one play latvia at the next years tourney? I see a last place latvian finish in their pool next year due to this fact alone.
