    We live in Airbnb's full time! Most of the time it's for 3 or 6 months at a time, and we've been successful at asking for a lower price. The host must be a Superhost with good reviews before we will book it. The downside is that the prices have been escalating quite a bit since we started slow travelling three years ago. Cheers from Vancouver :)

    Housesitting is interesting but also scary. What if someone's pet gets sick or dies while you're there? What if the house gets robbed or there's a fire? I don't want the responsibility of caring for someone else's home. When I travel, I want to relax and enjoy my trip, not worry about what might happen especially because I travel alone.

    I’ve used a house/pet sitting site for the last few yrs. It’s worked very well for the most part - only 1 house sitter that I would not invite back (I was in a pinch and took a chance on a younger person with no previous housesits which was a lesson and a mistake). We also did our first house sit for someone else and it was really enjoyable. As a home owner, very important to look at reviews and read between the lines to some degree. As a house/pet sitter, the same thing! Both pet sitter and home owner should get something valuable from the agreement.

    Thanks for another fun and thought-provoking video. We started our indefinite travels just a few weeks ago and hope to have many years ahead of us on the road. You’re now heading into your third year, so here’s my question for your upcoming Q&A video: how do you FEEL about the lifestyle you’ve chosen two years on from flying out to Cancun? Are you as enthusiastic now as you were then? Do you feel any of the initial spark and shine has faded? We look at you and think, “That might be us, two years from now.” So any insights you have are very welcome…

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  9 месяцев назад +1

      Toffeeboilingdwarf, great question.
      Keepingitreal, interesting read, I would say that anyone that chooses anything in life are going to be biased... even if its your football team. They get tanked in a game and can's can say "We were robbed!" So we get that probably exponents of FIRE are going to be biased towards their opinion on their life choices. That is only natural.
      If we have time in the Q&A video we'll try to answer this one because this is... well... keeping it real.
      Thank you both for your input and views. Very cool.

      I used Football as an analogy. I could be speaking of politics, religion or any idea that someone is emotionally invested in.
      I assume from this comment that you feel we are pretending with regard to our life or indeed defying logic. The one thing I know I am unable to do is to change your opinion on that, it really isn't my objective to do that.

    Just today the Victorian government has announced a 7.5% tax on short term rentals - saying that it is to release housing into the long term rental market. 1 to 2 per cent of the Victorian market is short term rentals. Other jurisdictions are limiting the nights you can have an Airbnb to say 180 nights. This will reduce the availability of accommodations and increase costs across the board. The real issue is the land availability. These measures won't help long term renters and will make the travelling lifestyle a lot more expensive.

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Steve. Interesting and we wouldn't say that the Victorian government that are making these changes. There are a lot of government interventions globally that are impacting Airbnb. Thing is, we have to sit on the fence with this one because the more we travel, the more we think of our responsibility to the local area and if we look at the UK as an example. There is such a housing shortfall at the moment that the price of property is out of reach for younger people.
      It is a real quandry which ever way you look at it. I guess the market economy will turn up a solution in time (every action has an equal and opposite reaction).
      Interesting comment, thanks for leaving it.

    For Q&A: 1) my concern about doing house sitting is where is the line between responsibility and liability? If the cat gets sick and needs urgent care or a storm brings a tree down on the roof. Is that something spelled in the agreement?
    2) I assume there is another negative about house sitting. You are probably not getting a beach house in Spain in the winter….likely you are taking care of that person’s home in England in the winter while they enjoy the sun. How true is that?

Some Questions for the Q&A. 1) Travel plans for the rest of 2023 and also for 2024? 2) Has the cost of living crisis affected your budgeting for future travel, ie what’s your full year budget for 2024 vs 2022 & 2023? 3) What if there’s a lost decade in stock market growth like between 2001 and 2013, will this affect your plans? 4) can I request a future video showing your yearly cost breakdown for 2023, overall and by category, and compared to previous years?

    We have just completed 6 house sits; one in France, three in England and two in Ireland. Some were great (a very affectionate Persian cat in Bristol in a beautiful home), others not so much (incontinent ageing dogs, dogs that expect to sleep in your bed, a new cat that can't leave the small house it shares with two large dogs, young undisciplined dogs, a rooster with hens, dogs with poor training and so on). So the message is try and pick somewhere with no young or very old animals. We are staying in a great spot (Airbnb) in Montenegro next year for $A57 a night for three weeks - so you think to yourself is house sitting really worth it? Also most sits are in the UK and in rained there throughout the summer we were there (and in Ireland where I had to buy gum boots to walk the dogs!).

    Happy Saturday Neil and Sarah! Nice to see you and enjoyed this video. Question: I'm curious which hotel booking site you recommend? I am a strictly Airbnb sort but am open to booking hotels considering the fees Airbnb is levying lately. It's often 1/2 to 1/3 the accommodation costs and for me, that is just too steep. So booking affordable, clean and safe hotels is something i'm definitely open to doing. Hope you're feeling better too Neil. Cheers!

      I don’t understand this comment. Genuinely not trying to be a jerk about it, but just curious about the intention behind it. Here’s what I’m struggling with. The title is “Free, Quirky or Dependable? Travel Smarter” This does not come across as clickbait to me, in fact, very much the opposite. I think the thumbnail had something about a budget buster and maybe that’s what you are referencing 🤷‍♂️. Second, if you are going to spend a ton of time and energy into creating content on RUclips, shouldn’t the goal be to get as many views as possible. If the title was dishonest or misrepresents the content, I’d be on board, but I’m not seeing it. If people are creating free content for me to enjoy, I’m certainly not going to begrudge them taking some liberties to build their brand and increase their viewership. Just my two cents, but feel free to correct me if I’m missing something?
