All good tips - reminds me of Steve & Ivana of JetLag Warriors, another RUclips couple who got robbed in Peru. Someone broke into their hostel room through a window and stole $10K of electronics including their laptop and editing equipment. They had to cut their travel short to return to Canada, file an insurance claim and buy new stuff to continue filming. Suggest a tensile rod or crowbar to put in the window jamb to prevent anyone from entering that way. No place is safe when they see your expensive gear!

Love the no blame culture! The one time I was in charge of paying a restaurant bill in Cartegena , Columbia, I left my purse with £200 in it at the restaurant . I remembered when my other half checked I had it 10 minutes later. After a panicked march back , we found they had it- we were glad we’d tipped well! To be fair, my other half has never even taken the mickey( which is very unusual😂) We’re thinking of YouTubing our travels next time we go rather than our written blog so any tips would be great .

We stumbled across your channel 2 days ago, looking for Malaysian study material, as we will shortly be visiting Kuala Lumpur in late September into October. We have absolutely fallen in love with your content and the way you both interact and put this all together, it's unique. I have hours of footage of our travels around the world, but none of it is on RUclips. I feel that it is our memories as we grow old and woolly around the edges. We have recently talked about retirement in Malaysia, our vacation will be a learning curve. We both agree, the climate in the UK is not for us as we get older. Keep up the great work, you're both an inspiration.

It's a neat bar in San Miguel de Allende but good points about listening to that inner voice if something doesn't feel right. I teach my kids this and my 17 year old daughter told me somewhere we were at felt "sketchy" to her. I didn't feel it but I listened to her and we left the area as it's important to grow these skills without losing the adventurous push:) I will say that your comment about starting at a mall works well in many places except we went into a huge food court at one in Santiago and it was filled with every single US fast food you could imagine! It was crazy as we couldn't fine anything "local." Great video as always. Do more please.

Great tips guys. I especially like the tip to seek out the local eats. It's such a huge party of the experience. It's one of our favorite things to do and we spend a good deal of our time in each place seeking out the great local eats. Doing a bit of research regarding local food ahead of time is helpful. Another tip regarding local food is to look for the places where the locals are going as you walk the streets. Sometimes us westerners can be a bit put off by the look of a place and get concerned about it's hygiene standards. However, if there are many local folks patronizing a place you feel confident it's ok for you as well. Safe travels guys.

Very useful information! Thankfully Joey is way more observant about these things, than I am, and he’s steered us around to avoid a few potentially dodgy individuals. It’s fun when you run some of your B-roll and I’m like, “I’m pretty certain that’s the theatre in Guanajuato.” Hope you had a Happy Birthday back when you filmed this! We fall into the taking photos of everything everywhere camp, however I find this works well as an aide to memory. The photos are all timestamped and geotagged, so we can often piece together when and where we were for anything. I have tried to do bullet point journals at the of the day, but I often forget. The only thing I’m relatively consistent about is logging restaurants we go to and what I ate there. It’s a little thing, but it’s actually come in handy a few times during a re-visit. Still looking forward to the Pivot episode 😊.

Traveling in the moment: I've had to learn that and it is HARD. I love to tote my various gizmos around to video / photograph as much as I can, or as the mood allows it, and I kick myself at times for not just pausing , just pausing for a few minutes to enjoy the moment with my woman and her with me and take it in. Nope... I'm already looking for composition angles, rules-of-thirds, .... shadows and light ..... how to frame .... where is a good place for my B-roll tripod............ and I dont realize this until I get home. It is a terrible travesty. It is akin to going to Mount Vesuvious to visit, and taking a photo of it, ..... then painting it back home, when you could have taken 15 minutes to pull out your fild notes and sketch a carbon image of the mountain and remember it forever. We have become slaves of the potential future audience and the monetization we hope it brings, rather than REALLY understanding what it is were are wilnessing, and the joy to be in a place where so much has happened before we were born, so many lives have been at this very place and so on. We, unfortunately, have the attention span of a gnat.

Love the tips. Great suggestions for low-tech safety. I have been documenting our trips for years some of them are on a small videotape that I need to convert to something. LOL I have even done room tours of our AI resorts that I may have tortured people with. I did this before it became a thing on RUclips and we love to go to memory lane and watch them. (Only with each other.) :) I bought
a go-pro after watching your first video but, I need practice. Thanks for another great episode.

There should be someone local that can convert the videotape but don't leave it too long as the tape will degrade and fewer people to help!
GoPro is fantastic, really worth learning to use well.

Great video. The rubber door stop is a great tip and would have saved me a weird encounter in a hostel in Thailand when I woke up at 2am with a hotel employee in my room making his way to my backpack.

We love street food! Thailand, Mexico, Vietnam and Malaysia was especially good for this. I really like this type of video.

    Great video as usual.
I totally agree with not looking at everything through a lens.
Enjoy the moment experience where you are.
Take a few photos so you can look back and reminisce (making a photo book) put it on a coffee table and enjoy your memories.
    Absolutely love your videos ❤
