Which one of those rigs fits your needs?
Needs are far surpassed. As are budgets. 😂
YES! I love that you walked us through your whole thought process. I've been through so many rig builds and your needs have been the most similar to mine. Seeing how you ruled out options I've been trying to sort through was so helpful!!
Best minimalist rig video on RUclips, thank you.
Man another great video, I was just asking myself how I should start thinking about what build would be most comfortable for me and you explained your thoughts so well. Thank you so much! Just picked up the bmpcc 6k today
I use the half cage too, but yr idea to attach the mic and monitor to the handle is great! Solves my packing issue.
I had a similar problem with my NPF + Power Junkie, so I picked up a light switch socket cage and cut away all of the metal to open each port. After sanding down the cuts I painted it black to match the BMPPC 4K & cage. The metal case not only protected my plate & battery from bumps, but allowed me to attach it to my cage via a magnet w/ 1/4-20 screwed into the left side of the top handle while the other portion rests securely on the left side of my SmallRig 1/2 cage. I can now shoot handheld without a bulky rail system for about 2 hours per battery.
Yes! I don't need the bulk, and also don't need the ssd mount and follow focus. I'll be doing something similar, good stuff!
great vid! doing research for my own rig and this is super helpful in the process!
I just set my rig up around the manfrotto 501 plate system since that’s what my gimbal uses. I have a shoulder rig with a qr plate, then I have my handheld rig with the 15mm rods, v mount battery, and a follow focus that slides into the shoulder rig. Then the bmpcc 4K has a qr plate to be pulled from the handheld rig for the gimbal and a NATO top handle that has my monitor attached with a 15mm rod and a long NATO rail to an evf mount so I can remove everything from the camera in about a minute. Then I have the small rig gimbal handle with another NATO rail for the evf/monitor to be slid on quickly. No tools needed and everything just quick releases and slides right out.
Thank you so much man. I'm new here, although I've been watching your videos for quite awhile.
Great rig setup. I just might have to set mine up the same way. I dont like my v mount setup. Its to much specially with all the wires. Thanks for this. It really helped
Finally a rig I can use. Thank you!
Finally a rig setup that I can work with.
I think I’m gonna replicate yours 😁
Loved the vid bro! Very helpful!
Excellent review , great presentation! You got a new subscriber! I'll be checking out your other videos.
Nice work. Awesome content😎😎😎
Awesome. Glad you finally got to use that SD mount! (Alaska calling) ;-)
Glad you got it all set up!
Me too 😂
Awesome video. Thanks man
This video is way different. Loved it!
Thank you Ayush
Did you try the tilta side handle with focus pulling integration. works nicely and has a sony np slot. my solution for switching from handheld to gimbal: buy two bmpcc6k
Looks great Damien! What is your favourite setup for the Canon Eos R? And do you use digital stabilisation on the Eos R? Thanks
hahahahaha the intro is SO RELATABLE! Thank you a lot! I'm going with your setup after 23867324872347234 tutorials. Just adding the smallrig handle grip with the T5 space to put the SSD inside. I'll tell you how I feel about it when it arrives!
Haha, the struggle is real :D
I meanwhile ditched the T5 and got a 1TB Cfast card
@@damiencooper wait what?! 1tb cfast? Sold your house?
I like the way you think. That it, great video once again.:)
Thanks a ton! :)
Do you mind sharing your gimbal settings? I have the same setup and I'm not that pleased with the Crane 3 with the Pocket 6K.
Would you say that a 7 inch monitor is top big for a bmpcc4k/6k rig if you shoot handheld?
Hey ! I'm thinking of putting a 70-200 on this camera. Will rigging it like this give me somewhat steady shots?
hi brother,,,
pls suggest me an adapter for usig my ef lens on p4k. I m not looking for speed boosters, but must have iris controll .
can you use zyuhuin follow focus without the gimbal
Your content is absolute fire and thank you for this! Now I have a simple solution and sorry you had to be driven crazy to figure it out LOL. Now we get the fruits !!!
haha, I am so glad I finally found the right solution for me ;)
What kind of baseplate is that? Thanks
Isn't it left heavy?
Boom!
love best rig
Thanks
I really enjoyed you going through your process!! Thank you! What lenses are you generally using with this rig? The Tokina that you reviewed recently?
All kinds. 16-35 Canon, 24mm 1.4 Canon, the Tokina and the 100mm Macro are probably the ones I use the most
What a process haha. Total cost of the end rig?
I Love your content 👌
thanks man! :)
It’s so underrated
Hi another cool video!! Keep it up!! I'm looking for a lens to use on my gimbal since the sigma 18-35 is giving me micro jitters and sadly can't combine it with the weebill s and the 6K. Are you using Canon 16-35 and how is your experience shooting with it on a gimbal? Do you have any balance issues, micro jitters and restricted moves?
G S I’m currently testing the crane3s. So absolutely no issues there
thanks for the informative HQ content. I have a question; when the rods were getting in the way of your hand reaching the lens, would it have been resolved using a follow focus solution? im asking because im very new to this, and I was considering a rig with rods to accommodate more accessories. thank you!
MindBlast honestly: not sure. Problem is 80% of the weight is on my left hand. So I think it would be very hard to pull focus with that hand too. I am currently testing follow focus systems so watch out for more content on this soon!
@@damiencooper oh i see what you mean, you can not stop supporting the weight of the camera and use that hand for follow focus alone, rig ergonomics is so complex when you are not holding and testing out gear physically. thanks a bunch! will stay tuned for that before I buy anything!
Great work on the video! The only thing I'm wondering is how smooth your handheld footage is- I am deciding between the weight and stability of v mount battery or the size and ease of NPF plate. I want NPF to work but is it heavy enough to take out the micro jitters? Have you got any footage with this setup I can watch?
Shot by Myles I think it’s def heavy enough. I haven’t uploaded anything yet. Did you watch my Tokina review yet? There’s some footage shot on that rig in there.
@@damiencooper Appreciate that, I'll watch it now cheers!
Looks like you got the rode ntg gotta ask where can I find the the dead cat. Can't seem to find the right fit.
there's link under my Rode NTG review
Well done. I'll take your part recommendations. I'm actually moving to a rig that uses the battery grip to also remove cables and some bulk. Btw I'd love to see a video about how you rig up your gimbal with the bmpcc 6k. Do you need an offset plate? If not, please let us know!
I use the crane 3 lab. It doesn't need anything. No counter weights and no special plates. I can balance it with the SSD, the half cage and the batteryplate. I do have to take off the battery but I could easily mount the plate to the side of the gimbal if I wanted to
thats a greatly focused video absolutely catering to the pros. its really a pro thing to cater to the feel of the shoot than just the physicality of the gear. This sounds great but i just have to feel it myself to see if it feels great as well. but on top of the mind question is ...is there enough space between the battery and the hand grip for a smooth operation of various kind of handheld shots. in my opinion it feels that there isnt enough space...if at all a compromised spacing. how did u feel about that while shooting. thanks for the great content! wishes.
Thanks for the comment.
I never touched the battery. So yes, def enough space!
@@damiencooper thankyou. will chk it out
how do you like it compare to canon C500mkii C300mkiii ?
Never used the c500. And it’s obv a diffeeebt kind of beast. But overall I definitely prefer the C300III
How did you mount that SSD holder to the side
Just mounted it to the holes on the cage. Think I did it reverse
@@damiencooper if you could post some pics that be great!
Thanks for this video! Would you ever suggest the 4K or is it just better to go right to the 6k in your opinion?
I personally would never go for the 4K. 1) I don’t have any mft lenses 2) less shallow depth of field 3) more crop
Get an XL speedbooster for the 4k and use full frame lenses and you’ll have a wider field of view and far less storage cost if that’s a concern, also more light for low light scenes.
Josh Ben Bernales yeah I know. I don’t know what it is but I’m just no fan of putting anything between the lens and the sensor and decrease quality. I always like to go as simple and native as possible. Especially when doing commercial work I try to avoid as many points of failure as possible.
Monkeypixels I hear that, I’ve shot 20tb plus on my pocket4k on the past year from casual to very important commercial work and it hasn’t skipped a beat, very happy with this little beast, I do wish is had better ergonomics though... I also use metabones adapters, the cheaper alternatives get very soft and I shoot mostly Sigma ART primes so it’s plenty sharp, in often using Promist filters to soften it as add bloom to the highlights. Great cameras all round.
Are you shooting Braw or Prores because I know your using FCPX.
I’m only shooting prores for now
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
That ice skating shot, how was that done?
what do you mean?
@@damiencooper dude looked like michael jackson with some wires leaning in the wind.. he's just that smooth I guess? because that shot was killer lol
@@buddyfx7026 ah that one.. yeah. he's just crazy like that ;). Plus the filming angle emphasis it
@@damiencooper dude is talented for sure but that angle is and motion is spot on. Love that shot!
Simple solution get two black Bmpcc one with for cage rig seconds one for the gimbal that way you saving time without breaking down for next set-up ...you'll never have to stop and the perfect work flow..hopefully that my suggestion will help you ..it's made my productions work flow ran much smoother..amen
I hated all the rigging, that’s why sold mine and kept my c200B with canon grip and shinobi. Clean nimble and balanced on my hands. Love your content, hate the rig 🤣
Haha, i totally get that! Not 100% convinced either! 😉
Check out Justin Phillip channel He has good ideas When it comes to rigging out your pocket cinema camera by black magic I think he has the 4K but I’m sure the 6K could benefit as well.
Justin has a very different philosophy than this dude.
Bisschen unscharf am Anfang, oder?
The OLLI ja 🙈. Focus verpasst 🤦🏻♂️
I don’t like this rig
so much of this crappy rigging is solved in the Tilta stuff. you seem to cheap out on every decision and waste so much energy. all your cables are not right and not properly secured.
That rig is trash bro I'm sorry. Love your work ethic but, turn the handle onto the epicenter of the weight.
