I haven't powered up anything yet. My main concern is not to fry anything with potentially the wrong dummy battery for the monitor. Loving the time you put into your videos Chris! I got the 6K earlier this year but I've not really had a chance to use it outside of my studio yet. Curious to know what made you switch from the Nucleus Nano to the mechanical follow focus?
Hey, I was pretty sure I replied to this, but it's saying it didn't go through! The reason I switched was because there is no more batteries to worry about and I don't have to plug the motor in! The Nano is still a great choice, I just wanted something a bit faster!
Great build-out. Your other video actually had me going for almost the exact same set-up but then at the last minute I changed to another direction. Excellent work!
I was wondering how do you travel from your studio to where you are going to film with your rig? Do you break it down and put it a bag/case or do you leave it built out? Also why did you go with a manual follow focus system compared to that of the nucleus nano?
Excellent question! Depending on the distance, I usually break it down and store it in a pelican case! But if I can, I leave it built out if I’m not going far! And as far as the focus system goes, I decided to go with the manual focus because I don’t have to worry about charging batteries or extra wires with the motor! It’s simpler, and faster to set up!
@@ChrisFranklinJr about how much did it cost to put together a solid pelican case? I've been planning to do the same thing it's just a little budget tight at the moment. Harbor Freight has some solid alternatives I've found.

Chris, last question. My 6k is kind of noisy at times as far as the fans and internal components. Kind of rough for audio, even external mics depending on the environment. Do you have that issue? If so, how do you combat it? Thanks!

Thanks! And no particular reasons, I already had dummy batteries in house so I went with it! ALSO, the monitor that I like to use the most does not support DC input!
You might have answered this already but, is there a particular reason you didn't go with the Tilta Mini Mattebox? It's only $99 and you aren't forced to use Polar Pro's proprietary filters. Anyways, great video!
Excellent question! The mattebox mini was actually my first choice! But I really wanted something that had a variable ND! Plus I looked at the individual price of filters vs buying the one VND and decided to go with the polar pro!

Thanks for this! I'm thinking of buying the battery and plate through the link after I save up a little more! Can I ask, do you have a rough approximate of how many hours of 6k raw footage you can shoot with this battery and this whole set up?
Couple of questions. Is the fotga dp500iii better? It’s only $5 more so I was wondering if that one was worth it. And what kind of tripod do you use for that rig? I’m literally following the EXACT same build with my 6k and I’m looking for a solid tripod.
@@ChrisFranklinJr I bought the one from your description and built my rig. I love it!! Dumb question though. How do I charge the battery? 😂😂 I plugged my coresxw ptap charger into the battery itself but that didn’t work. Or do I charge the plate, and if so how do I do that? 🙈🙈
I have a really dumb question. If I have the BMPCC6k connected to an Atomos Ninja monitor that has an SSD attached, is there any need to attach a separate SSD to the camera?
Have you tried adapting the Sony lenses you have to the BMPC 6K? I am thinking of getting the BMPC 6K for my commercial work along with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 but I wondering if my Sony lens could work as well. I tried searching for videos on it but nothing.
Everyone seems to say the screw-in cable from Tilta isn’t enough for the 6k. Tilta only claims it works for the 4k. Lots of people have had issues recording to the T5 with that cable, which is a dang shame because no third party cables will screw into the cage like that. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) Oh well, I’m only using SSD in controlled environments. CFast for everything else.
@@ChrisFranklinJr Hmm, interesting... I wonder what could be causing an issue for some people. In case anyone's interested, I'll leave the following e-mail response from Tilta that I received last month: "Thank you for reaching out. Their have been issues reported with the new 6k and 6k pro with these cables (our screw mount versions) so I would probably suggest picking up a third party cable if at all possible for use with our cage and our SSD holders. This is something our R&D team is aware of, but we currently don't have an immediate solution coming out. We apologize for any inconvenience! Since we do not currently have a USB-C cable clamp and this is a sticking point for you, then we would probably recommend looking at other cages." I thanked them for their candid response and told them I was still going to buy their cage, which I did. (Just not the cable in question... although I might give it a try.)
Bro me wondering what you actually doing with all your equipment... you‘d been telling us all the time what’s your fav is what you like bout so ever - which Camera you using for whatever - how a perfect rig needs to look like - how bout showing more footage while explaining how you did your shots and why... me wanna see more of what you do with all the equipment how creative you are at least... probably learning from you... what you think? is it possible to see more bout this here?
How is handheld footage with that lens looking? I’m talking non slow motion just in the moment documentary filming. I’m torn between sigma 18-35 and canon 16-35 f2.8 IS.. At the moment I’m shooting with Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 mft. It has IS but it’s not artistic at all.
So I love the handheld look BUT if you’re not careful, it can get really shaky, really fast! So I the idea of having a lens with IS. but personally, I decided to go with a lower F stop of 1.8 then go with IS!
I don’t have any particular brands BUT I will look up some more and try to update the link! It was just available haha but It frequently goes in and out of stock!
@@ChrisFranklinJr I know but it worths the investment believe me. I had Samsung 2TB T5 ssd drive. I used it for few months and suddenly start to fail me and stop recording while shooting. Wise Cfast is cheapest and recommended by BMD. And yeah less cables to carry around.
Wondering why anyone would spend 5K on a rig for a camera that's only 2K? If the rig is 3K and the camera 2K, that's still a bit on the rich side. Regardless, I'm sure there are way less expensive alternatives to keep the cost down. After all, the camera already has the most important element. The 6K sensor. All else, I would say, can be shopped around.

@@ChrisFranklinJr thank you brother. I just went ahead and just ordered some!!
Couple of questions.
Is the fotga dp500iii better? It’s only $5 more so I was wondering if that one was worth it.
And what kind of tripod do you use for that rig? I’m literally following the EXACT same build with my 6k and I’m looking for a solid tripod.
I think either would work fine! So far I have no problem with the one I have!
And I use a $600 tripod from Ikan! It's super nice!
Technically no unless you want to dual record!
Have you tried adapting the Sony lenses you have to the BMPC 6K? I am thinking of getting the BMPC 6K for my commercial work along with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 but I wondering if my Sony lens could work as well. I tried searching for videos on it but nothing.
Excellent question. Unfortunately, you cannot adapt Sony lenses to the BMPCC because the distance between the lens and the sensor would be too great.
What gear ring do you have on the 18-35 sigma lens? It looks seamless !

@@ChrisFranklinJr Thanks!
Really?! Never noticed and I've never had a problem!
@@ChrisFranklinJr Hmm, interesting... I wonder what could be causing an issue for some people.
In case anyone's interested, I'll leave the following e-mail response from Tilta that I received last month:
"Thank you for reaching out.
Since we do not currently have a USB-C cable clamp and this is a sticking point for you, then we would probably recommend looking at other cages."
I thanked them for their candid response and told them I was still going to buy their cage, which I did.
I will!! I'll be making a site soon and will be posting more of my client work!
@@ChrisFranklinJr 🙏🏾 Thxx would really like to see it...
What follow focus ring are you using on the sigma?
It's from followfocusgears.com/

Nice brother :)
yo chris, how heavy is this rig you think?
You don't use IR filter?
I don't! But I have heard that I should potentially start! Will look more into it!
Have you shot on a gimbal with it ??
How do you use the camera menus if the battery covers the screen?
Hey! The battery plate just rotates up and out of the way! It's really easy
Is version for canon is f4..the 2.8 got no is sadly..their 18-55/85 f2.8 do have is but not L series:(
@@ludovicavice3496 Right? There has to be a sacrifice somewhere :(
The monitor dummy battery doesn't seem to be available, any other recommended brands?!
I don’t have any particular brands BUT I will look up some more and try to update the link! It was just available haha but It frequently goes in and out of stock!
13:27 HA...HA! (Chris’s Trademark)
LOL! That's so accurate!
can this build work with the Moza air 2
I am not sure! It is pretty large! And I have never worked with that gimbal in person
did he say ''im sorry if it triggers your LCD"??
cool rig, my concern is the weight 😀
It gets really heavy, really fast! That’s usually why I’m using the smaller build out without the v mount!
Chris Franklin ikr I changed my set to bmd battery grip, cfast for storage, top plate for mic and sometimes sun hood.
@@Dub105 I want to get into C-Fast, they're just so pricey! haha
Nice smile bro
You have a sunhood and a full size V-mount battery blocking the whole screen lol...
It swivels up and away from the screen
Bro how much for this setup ?🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It’s almost $5,000 on the dot!
Yo yo!!
BOY YOU ARE FAST!
I don’t understand why people love with a passion 5 inch monitors, Just get a 7 inch😡
~5600 total
Thanks!!
How I built my CAMERA RIG for DIGITAL
It's a SOLID build!!
