Good tool for removal but not install. It could collapse and tighten the ball socket grease cup if you torque the nuts too much. Crows foot socket extension is better tool for installing new tierods because all the torque is on the thread end where it suppose to be and not on the ball socket. But for removal the crows foot usually slips because the tierod usually loc-tited in pretty solid.
I ended up having to cut the bolt off of the old outer tie rod. The top of the tie rod, where the 10mm socket goes, was completely stripped and even slipped in the visegrips. I'm thankful for I had a sawzall...lol
Im gonna change the right side inner n outter tie rod I orderd the tie rod removing tool the inner tie rod on my Kia forte dont have the section to use a wrench to hold it...what do I do there???
Might be able to save you some time. Back off the jam nut 1/2 turn all it does is push against the tie rod thread the new till it touches and back it away 1/2 turn then tighten the jam nut against the tie rod reattach tie rod end nut torque to 110 ftlbs Use blue loctite . Good time to check cv boots brake pads swaybar links . I just did this on my 2010 limited.
My garage is quoting me 4.5 hours for inner tie rods on a 2014 Ford edge due to the rack and pinion, what are your thoughts? Can this job be done without removal? how common are inner replacements when outer is still good? Thanks
Yes it can be done without removal. I don't know how common it is but in my case the outer was fine. 4.5 hours seems a bit too long for a shop if it's just the inner tie rod replacement.
I purchased a Moog inner and outer tie rods. Do they come pre-greased or do we need to grease them? If they already come pre-greased, is it enough or should we add more? Thank you!
How you noticed that it was the inner rod? My 2014 Ford Flex passenger side makes noise and it’s wearing the tire out , inside and outside. Maybe I have the same problem as your flex.
I took the tire off and listened while I grabbed it and tried to move it. If there's play in and out then it's bad. You can try some one turning the steering wheel while you listen to the suspension with the tire off also.
May I ask, what symptoms were you having to replace your inner tie rod? I’m having a little driver side vibration and grinding sound on acceleration. I’ve replaced wheel bearing hub, CV axle and transmission torque mount!
if you raise each wheel off the ground (can be one at a time). Grip the wheel at 3 and 9 oclock position and push/pull on opposite sides switching back and forth (trying to rock the tire side to side). If you hear or feel a clunk, have a helper hold the tie rod assembly, pushing inward toward the center of the car, while you repeat the rocking again. If the clunk goes away while your helper is applying inward pressure then it is the inner tie rod. if you still have a clunk your problem is likely elsewhere (wheel bearing, outer tie rod)..
Rexx Michaels • assuming it's not damaged on the threads then yes. But sounds like you won't be able to get away with not going to the alignment shop. Thanks for the question and for watching.
DAMB FORD FOR NOT HAVING FLAT SPOTS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE INNER TIE RODS!!! MAKES REMOVAL A PAIN!!!! IM GOING TO WELD THE SHAFT TO THE BALL & USE THE SEIZED NUT TO TURN IT OUT! I BOUGHT BOTH THE $90.00 INNER TIE ROD TOOL & THE $20.00 CLAMP STYLE INNER TIE ROD TOOL & BROKE MY 1 FOOT EXTENSION TRYING TO BREAK THE INNER LOOSE!!! SO, IM GOING TO WELD THE BALL JOINT SOCKET INSIDE THE INNER TIE ROD, WELD IT TO THE SHAFT!!!
D.j. B • Sorry to hear you had trouble. I was able to get the clamp tool to bite into the rounded part of the tie rod on first chance. If anyone else reading this is having trouble with that then I suggest sanding/filling groves in it. It's best to get the breaker bar directly on the clamp tool because they sure are tightly set. I've broken a few extensions too so I feel your frustration... Good thinking on the weld trick! Thanks for watching and commenting.
AT LEAST YOUR INNER TIE ROD HAD TOOLING/ FLAT SPOTS TO ACCEPT A TOOL FOR REMOVAL!!! ON A FOCUS, THEY ARE ROUND & NO FLAT SPOTS FOR A TOOL SO, I BOUGHT BOTH, THE CLAMP (PART # 25296 AT AUTOZONE) ITS CHEAPER ONLINE

Thanks. I was having trouble understanding how to remove the clamp for the boot. You saved me from a lot of unnecessary swearing.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.

This was very helpful on my 13 Flex. Thank you! I had to use an 1 1/2” inner tie rod tool to remove the tie rod
Glad to help. Thank you!
Wow thank you!!! Don’t have to replace the inner, but now I know how! Just doing outer today
Glad it helped you. Thanks for the nice comment.

Thank you for the detailed info.
I really appreciate this. Thanks, man!

Excellent work! Thanks for sharing and your kind comment!
Thanks for adding the torque specs!

You're very welcome and Thank you!
Thanks so much for the video buddy. 🤘🏻👍🏻 I have to do the tie rods on my MKS which “should “ be the same process as your Flex. Thanks again.
Im gonna change the right side inner n outter tie rod I orderd the tie rod removing tool the inner tie rod on my Kia forte dont have the section to use a wrench to hold it...what do I do there???
If there are no flat edges to grip then use water pump pliers to hold it. Here's a quality brand for them - amzn.to/3z4uloy

Thanks for the tips. The manual I used mentioned 77 ft pounds and red loctite if I remember right.

thanks for video , can i ask what was your symptoms ? .
Creaking noises when turning.

Pre-greased but I added some more to be safe.

Thanks I will do that.
What kind of problems where you having before you even start to inspect the inner tie rods?
Creaking type noises on turning. Thanks for watching!
We had a knocking over bumps. We pinpointed it by wiggling the steering wheel back and forth.
May I ask, what symptoms were you having to replace your inner tie rod?
I’m having a little driver side vibration and grinding sound on acceleration.
I’ve replaced wheel bearing hub, CV axle and transmission torque mount!
Creaking type noises on turning. Hope you get it figured out after all those options. Thanks for watching.
