David has always been most underrated bassist in metal because he doesnt have that rockstar attitude in him. People always talk about Dave rhythm ability , Marty solo, Nick's drumming but rarely mention David's ability. His playing is 100% articulated and his tone made every notes feels like a punch into your head.
Dave E is THE BEST pick bass player - IMO. He is not only holding down the groove and providing the low end. But there is a very percussive style to it that most pick players do not have.
Its more that they just write a ton of riffs. Literally a ton. Then when they find some that work together, they form them into songs. Which is why they riffs exist in some form for years before release.
I don’t think RIP was written during 83/84. The writing and overall vibe of the songs on RIP are very different from previous albums they had released. Perhaps some riffs were written back in that time period... which is pretty normal for musicians / bands to do.
I'm not saying this as a megadeth fanboy but anybody who says else is ignorant. Honestly tho I'd give the performance ability to Newsted, he was perfect for Metallica's image during the black album era
Both Newsted and Ellefson are great in their own ways, Ellefson sure is hell of an bassist, and his technique is great, but Newsted is hell of a singer and headbanged like a total boss 😎😎 both are my favourite bassists!! 🤘🤘
Ellefson is amazing at bass.. just wish he was amazing on not yanking it online for all to see and in the process embarrassing his family and his band!!
@metallicaboy93 Dave had alot of songs written before he even put them on albums. He had songs like Hook in mouth (which was initially an instrumental) Bad Omen, My last words in their live set even before they released killing is my business. Same probably goes for this one.
Megadeth had songs written years before commercial release. An example is set the world afire, there's footage if them playing it in 1984, before even kimb was released
@@cossrabales9093 but why would they be rehearsing it. Usually when you rehearse a song it's before you play it. Your saying they played it 2 years before it's release?
they wrote it before it was released on 1992, as many of other songs from differents albums, for example rust in peace main riff was written in the 80's

yep besides Cliff Burton, Dave E is the best big 4 bassist for sure! him and rex brown never get the love they deserve!

David's bass playing is fucking incredible.
One of metal's most underrated songs.
all the idiots say the same about any song they see on youtube
@@cesarleythor oh shut the fuck up
@@cesarleythor I'm pretty sure if people say St. Anger is underrated, then this song fits in that category as well
@@cat_bicycle12 low St Anger is so shitty it doesn't deserve to be called shit. Call it utter garbage.
@@ClickClan100 Hahaha, well said.
Always a pleasure to see David Ellefson kick ass
GOD HAVE MERCY
HOLY SHIT! Ellefson is a beast!
For questions like "What would Ashes in your Mouth be like if they played it on Rust in Peace?" , we've now found an answer.
Exactly. If that riff section had appeared on rust it wouldn't have sounded how ashes ended up sounding like on countdown.
They made the song in the time they were makinf rip i believe
It would propel RIP even father than it was once
Ellefson is a great bass player. There's a live version of Train of consequences in Chile '95 where he plays a really cool solo. Must see it.
He did so good on that part
listening to ellefson is pure joy.
How does Ellefson even have that much endurance? My arm hurts just watching him.
Practice! In my last band I used to get awful cramp at the base of my thumb from fretting, it went away after a month of practice though :)
Well, now watch his performance on Tornado of souls live in Rock in rio 91 :D
Now we know guys..
I'm not a bass player but i would so want David's bass guitar.
That first riff sounds so cool but I don’t remember hearing that in the song
So this song was written 2 yrs before its release!!! makes you wonder how many songs they write per album!
Its more that they just write a ton of riffs. Literally a ton. Then when they find some that work together, they form them into songs. Which is why they riffs exist in some form for years before release.
Set the World Afire was written on the back of a cupcake wrapper in 83/84
wtf RiP in 83/84?, hope you're not talking about H18 lol

Claudio AB Yes the song Rust In Peace was written quite early. Look up the story "Rust In Peace and Child Saint".
sweet taste of vindication, it turns to ashes in your mouth...epic!
This is my Favourite song from Megadeth.
david ellefson kills newsted for sure, i mean on bass playing
by far! david is one of metal's best bass players!
Of course...
I'm not saying this as a megadeth fanboy but anybody who says else is ignorant. Honestly tho I'd give the performance ability to Newsted, he was perfect for Metallica's image during the black album era
newstead kills ellefson in growling

Me at 00:30: Haha Dave looks so goofy.
Me at 00:53: I take that back.
David Ellefson and Jason Newsted have to be my favourite bass players in trash metal
that bass tone
Friggin song is hard to play...
Its not that hard to play, but when you play with the whole band, it's very tricky, especially with the drum part!
Ignacio Centurion Yeah, there's many time signature and tempo changes in it that make it difficult to play especially the whole band.
Walamonga 1313 Thank god i dont have any friends to play with HAHA i just put backing track on yt and im DONE
A piece of history ❤
00:28 - " Ellefson got clean right after the drugfest which was the " so far , so good ...so what ! " period " . Yeah , that´s right .
Nah he's just too tired or drunk in this video
Dave's stuff it Soo clean and persise and on beat ...
0:53 O_O;
Ellefson is amazing at bass.. just wish he was amazing on not yanking it online for all to see and in the process embarrassing his family and his band!!
Yep, he didn't take religion seriously.
Fr
That was BS, Mustaine was a dick for.not supporting Ellefson . I can't believe all the fuzz just because he jerked off in front of a camera .
lol David Ellefson's face at 0:28
Junior is a beast
That bass...
Junior rips on the bass!
My fav megadeth song. This is the part I’m having trouble nailing down. Given what a fcuken cool song it is, theres fcuk all guitar tutorials on it..:
Will consider.
They play some riffs of the song, but it must be an early idea because they don't use all of those riffs in it.
Marty Friedman's left hand still scares me
Mustaine rocking a GWAR shirt!!
great bass player
The riff that they play in the beginning is included in any other song?
1:17 David started playing Rust in peace...Polaris for no reason
Lion hair marty😮😮😮 nice
fucking awesome.

This is like gold, man. Amazing. They are the reason i ditched metallica.
@megaluisdeth he was jizzing to the amazing tone he had haha
What’s that first part they play
Sounds like a real raw part of what would become The Killing Road off Youthanasia.
Who are these two people that come to this video just to downvote? What's the logic? Still holding onto the Megadeth\Megadeth feud?
It's a bit weird Dave said yes to this behind the scene project and half the time he acts as if the camera pointed on him is absolutely unbearable...
god damn man... why?
Jr did not write the intro line to peace sells Dave did
renDerde How is that related to what my dude just said?
What’s this song called
alguien sabe como ecualizaba marty friedman?
tengo la misma pregunta xd
Con tusca
You sure this is 1990? Cause the song was released until 92?
Megadeth had songs written years before commercial release. An example is set the world afire, there's footage if them playing it in 1984, before even kimb was released
@@cossrabales9093 but why would they be rehearsing it. Usually when you rehearse a song it's before you play it. Your saying they played it 2 years before it's release?
ladev91 it could’ve just been a warmup or they could’ve been playing around with the riffs
They were famous before they made an album
This video is from the RIP tour the song is not complete in that moment
Not possible , to move fingers that fast, on tempo, with feel , without drinking cocacola
Just sayin
Was waiting for someone to point this out 😂
The intro riff is so rust in peace-ish.. Dave if you read this (You prob. don't), use this fucking riff!!
It's funny he is wearing a Gwar t shirt here considering recent events haha
Ashes in your Mouth (ALBUM: Countdown To Exctinction) was released in 1992 and the title of the video says 1990??

What is this song, thanks DMV whoever
Ashes in your mouth, released in the Countdown to Extinction album
