  • Overview of the Swisher ATV Universal dump bucket and mount kit on my 2016 Honda Rancher 420. It works but it's obviously not a replacement for a tractor loader or skid steer in any way. You wont be able to do any digging with this attachment. Here is a link to purchase the loader (paid link)

    I've been using one for years, definitely beats a shovel & wheelbarrow for moving gravel! Nice review.

    Put a load of gravel in the bucket then back drag what you spread. The weight will hold the bucket down better. This worked better than I thought it would.

    Lower the bucket when dumping, it will prevent the whole load from dumping in one spot. Then as you back up slowly lift it to spread out more. Just a tip!

      exactly what I thought... but you said it 1st

      Yup as a payloader operator I was gonna say the same too. Also, you can release the bucket with it up in the air and use the tip of the bucket to help spread the gravel. Think I may need one for my Honda.

  • @carlr9869
    @carlr9869 2 года назад +4

    To spread that better you should lower your bucket to the ground where you want to dump it then pull the dump leaver and then raise the bucket back up slowly as you back up to spread the gravel.

    * * * I have this exact bucket on my 500 Suzuki ATV. BUT "made a couple of important changes" you may want to read about. . I beefed it up a little bit. (1) One thing I had to do was remove my cable off my ATV winch and fit a 6'-8' long flat 2" wide strap on mine because when you lift heavy material like gravel (even snow) repeatedly up n down, the cable will bind and kink so that you can't unwind it. A flat strap will never kink up. I used a lifting strap rated for 1000-2000lbs. $15 online. Cut the length down to fit. To get my binding cable off the ATV winch, I had to hook it up to my pick-up truck ball hitch and aggressively back up the ATV. (2) Also, had to weld a vertical support piece at the base/bottom half of the square tube that has the slip hook at the top. I felt that heavy material (gravel, rock) would bend or break that square tube. (3) And the last thing is . . that most people who use a lift bucket on their ATV will overdo/abuse it by lifting too much weight, therefore wearing out the front bearings on the ATV. Your ATV is not a Bobcat! The normal use for an ATV front bucket is for mulch, branches, dirt or something lighter. I use my bucket for everything out here in the country! It's been a couple years now, but I know I'll have to replace my front bearings someday. Though I try to be careful. But the bucket is definitely a back saver.

    Nice video...I have one on my rancher and fyi leave a load in the bucket then lower it to ground the weight in the bucket helps when you drag over rocks to smooth out and then rocks in bucket fall out which adds more to your spread. I use mine everyday 👍

      Mr. Chance , first o all , that was a very encouraging comment you made , not only for me , but to all of those who use their ATVs for private or commercial WORK !!! Second, take a look at a totally unfounded and very negative review that was posted yesterday on RUclips on the 54" Warn plow bucket . I forgot who did the review , but he was on a red and black Polaris I think with his boy I gather. I RESPECTFULLY REPLYED to his comments . Thanks , Boehm and Associates .

    If you are going to back drag, you out to grab another bucket of gravel to weigh the bucket down as you drive in reverse

    if you want the spreading part to be more efficient, load the bucket with a few heavy rocks and then spread the gravel

    i figured i look into a bucket not as proprietary as a plow, more versatile!

    Use a snatch block on the winch. Double the lifting power and slows down the winch so it’s not so jerky

    Looks good. I own a skid steer but I kind of like how this would work on my 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500. Actually got a great deal on my skid steer I only paid $1,800 for it and it came with three buckets. The buckets are worth what I paid for it! Thanks for the demonstration.

      But I guess it only makes sense to lock the (soft) suspension of an ATV and the axles are the only sensible attachment point to transmit the loads of the attachments.

    I don't know. Maybe a bucket is good for hauling stuff, but not that good for much else.
    I once spread a huge load of gravel for a cement base in a garage site. A very large garage site.
    I just started eating away at the pile and moving it around, with just a plow.
    The job on this video could have easily been handled with the plow in less time for less money, and less monkying around with mounting that plow.
    For 17 years with my old atv, I moved boulders, railroad ties, mounds of dirt and rock, branch piles, snow,and more.
    I've thought about getting a bucket all those years, But the limitations inherent with the whole set up made me hesitate.
    This year I got a new atv and thought I'd look into buckets, and from what in seeing, I'll have to pass.
    Then there's having to remove your plow mounting system to mount the bucket. By the time you get it set up,you could have done the work with you plow,or even a shovel.
    Nice video though

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  5 лет назад +4

      A plow can not carry 250lbs of gravel 100 yards but thanks for the comment. Money well spent for my purposes.

    • @jhab2581
      @jhab2581 5 лет назад

      Swisher makes a plow attachment for this mount as well.
      Simply pull clip ring, pull pin, put plow on with same pin/clip, attach winch. Done..5 min. Max.

    • @richardtheisen6456
      @richardtheisen6456 5 лет назад

      @@JackofAllMasterofNone I get that but a guy can shovel 250 in to a trailer in about 2 minutes. If I was rich and had someone to go out there and switch the implements for me,I suppose I'd own one.
      Otherwise,I'll grab the shovel and get er done.
      And the trailer has many uses.
      I'm not knocking the front loaded. Its a great idea.
      Is just the limitations of an atv.
      For what I just spent on my new atv, I could find a used small tractor with a proper front loader. But then I wouldn't have an atv.
      With what I earned plowing 17 years with the old atv, I could've bought both.
      If I had more space I'd buy a tractor.
      Good luck

      @@richardtheisen6456 I have this same setup on my 01 Polaris sportsman 500. The bucket beats a shovel by a multiple of about 50 and you can switch between bucket and snow blade in about 3 minutes. I like this setup because it has a big leaf spring that carrries the weight of the bucket and material or the snow blade, and all the pushing and ramming is handled by the rear hitch. Obviously the ATV isnt gonna lift like a tractor...but it for sure beats a shovel by a long shot
