I have a 2016 Honda Rancher 420 4 Tractor with power steering and from watching this Vlog, is very very close to my machine. I have plenty of power. As a matter of fact, it will go much faster than this soft suspension will safely allow. But I did not buy it to go fast, I bought it to go strong and it does that very well in work and utility applications, and it does this very well. The biggest difference I see in our machines is I have full 4 wheel independent suspension with adjustable shocks on all four corners. This adds considerable cost , but one I opted for. Good luck, Be Safe, Great Vlog!
Just bought a 21 Foreman. After months of research I found it won out in every category except for top speed for what I need it for. Had it a week and love it. I just bought it as a toy to go trail riding with my buddies I bought foot shifter no power steering my thought process being the less added the less that can break
I have the 2021 Honda Rubicon Foreman 520. Total beast, Will plow any snow I put it up too and I’ve pulled a mini van out the rut with my winch. These machines are not speed demons with a top speed of around 40-45 but they are the most reliable machines you can get. People who dog Honda on their simplistic design simply don’t understand that’s where the high reliability come into play.
I’m looking forward to getting a foot shift model for snow plowing and pulling firewood out of the woods. My ‘84 atc 200s needs a break after decades of pure abuse
Back in the 70's I worked at a motorcycle shop for a while. Back then we had three-wheelers. We did some crazy stuff on those things (one-wheel wheelstands, etc.) In the early 90's a friend invited me to his lake home and he had two Honda four wheelers. Wow, what a difference. Progress rules. That Foreman looks like a great choice, Josh. Well done.
I have a 2004 with 500 hours and 1100 miles. All low speed heavy work, plowing, dragging, and moving dirt with a bucket. I wanted no belts and the Honda durability. Only non maintenance repair was a starter. Not bad in 17 years. Enjoy.
We had a 2012 Foreman, added Warn 2500lb wireless winch, chainsaw mounts and front and rear racks - very reliable - we sold it after buying a Ranger last year. I do recommend using ethynol free gas though.
Had a lot of Hondas, they're amazing. The rear axle is solid I do believe (both wheels turn all the time) unless you're overseas and they have a turf mode I don't know about. Enjoy your machine and land.
When I bought my Suzuki eiger 4x4 the only reason I chose it over Honda was their reverse was easier to use when needed to focus on use of snow plow. Hondas are great products for sure! I've had a few.
This is my go to with a heavy duty cart behind it. I cleaned 2 acres of woods of brush and small trees with this rig. Very hilly more useful than a tractor. Used the cart as skidder.
I know if you take care of those machines they will last 30 years or more. The reliability and durability is definitely there as a work machine. Great video And really good looking ATV.
Morning josh watching from England anyone who served for their country I take my hat off to u just started to watch your channel and like what I see will keep watching keep up the good work keep safe
I have owned several honda 4 wheelers ,they make a good machine. Of course the key to longevity is doing the maintenance on them.Since you purchased this one almost new it should last you many years. Thanks for the review.
Got a 2002 foreman 4x4 the machine is extremely solid and is still running good just keep up with regular maintenance, you can abuse the machine. My neighbor has gone through 2 Polaris and 1 Yamaha in the same time.
My preference would be Yamaha. It has an automatic transmission with high/low range. Which you don't have to worry about shifting, just put it in gear and go. Also independent rear suspension is so much smoother than the rear wishbone. All an all you do have a great ATV for your farm. Looking forward to all the updates to come.
dad bought 2 blue honda fourtrax 300s when I was a kid....he made me and my sis read the owners manuals before we could ride them....what a great lesson for a kid.....He should have never sold them...they probably had 30 hours on them in 2009
Unless they’ve changed something on straight axle four wheelers the rear is always locked because it’s a solid axle all the way through. Very nice four wheeler.
Electric shift is easier and funner to drive in my opinion. If it breaks, the parts are available and cheap and easy to fix. Id stick with electric shift.
You can not go wrong when you want a reliable quad. Have had my 250 for years. Nice review. People don’t like the price on Honda’s but there is a reason why.
I have a 2012 Honda rancher 420 FPA. It would go 53 mph on flat ground that was it. It had power steering. Rear independent suspension and was the best all around atv I ever owned. I can’t think of one bad thing to say about it. They are more less same as the foreman. It had 5,000 miles on it when I sold it in 2022. 10 years old rancher still got $4000 for it. They hold there value better than any other make of atv. My theeewheelers are worth more now than they were when new by thousands lol
Yes Honda is the best I have one Suzuki from the 90s with me is not a beast has gas leaks Hondas I have 12,000 miles on all of them almost and Therapis
9:00 - You could add a strong magnet to that compartment. Slap a magnet on your phone cover or just place your keys there. Whatever! Might make it more useful.
That Honda looks good for darting around the property. In my 3rd episode on my channel I introduce and do a walk around on my new Kawasaki Mule - Real Tree edition. I was as happy as a kid in a candy store. 812 ccs, 3-6 person adjustable seating, 2x4 or 4x4, dumping rear bed, roof, windshield. It’s basically my workhorse on my farm. I love it and I’m so pleased with its performance thus far. I’ve had it up to 55km/hr. 🇨🇦 But if I’m just doing something quick and easy like checking the fences or fallen trees a single rider atv might serve me well. Thanks for the explanation of the Foreman’s features.
Hasn’t changed much since my 350 Honda Rancher. Paid $4700.00 in 2000 for it. Twenty one years later, sold it with 5000 miles, for $4500.00. Cost me $200.00 depreciation over 21 years. Fuel, oil, filters, tires and one carb rebuild kit, insurance, registration. Relatively cheap fun. Honda costs little more, however she gives back in the end with resale. 🏁🏁🏁💰
Honda makes a good power unit. I still have a 2000 Rancher ES. Starts and runs great every time. I've rebuilt the carb once and replaced a choke cable and just routine maintenance otherwise.
Hey Josh. Nice ride. You talked about the suspension around the 8:20 mark and mentioned that it's in the 2nd to highest/stiffest setting. By the look of it, it's in the 2nd to lowest setting. So you can stiffen up the suspension and increase ride height a fair bit still by turning the adjusters up a few more notches. That will certainly help as you add attachments/implements to it. Hope this helps!
my son just turned 8 getting him a honda 90 next year for his 9th birthday and looking at a honda for myself aswell probably going to go with a rancher as I dont need something too big. Had a 90 growing up and a 250 those things lasted decades with almost zero maintenance lol.
With my 2021 foreman, I’ve found that the bigger(watertight) pocket on the side is great for putting my phone into(if I don’t have it on my belt clip), and the little pocket where you had your phone is good for a pocket knife or something small and heavy. Also there is a little storage pocket up at the front of the machine(let’s water in), where sunglasses, keys, and other smaller things can go.
Can't beat a Honda! that little compartment by your left knee you had your phone was in, that's where the automatic shifter lever comes through on the Foreman Rubicon Models, they use the same body plastics. Sweet Machine, that will treat you well for a lot of years!
Add some LED lights to front and rear for the upcoming dark winter nights. Light pods and/or rock lights from superbrightleds are inexpensive with great support. That's what I have on my 500 Sportsman ATV.
Nice review from someone serious about using an ATV as they were meant to. However, as a farmer , I can tell you that you should have gotten a Rubicon. The Foreman you have is underrated for pulling weight and heavy duty chores. The Rubicon can pull 1300 pounds plus and carry 200 pounds plus on the top racks. We often use the Rubicon (2022 model) to pull heavy mowers, pickup trucks and tractors out of mud ruts. (Although have not tried a combine yet.) The heavier weight carrying capacity is useful for liquid spray tanks of fertilizer and herbicide. They can also carry heavy equipment like chainsaws with fuel, etc. while pulling a trailer loaded with firewood. The Rubicon is better at pulling spring harrows, tined box tillers and rock catchers. As for fast speeds 40 to 60 mph with pretty body paint, no need there. The Honda is a very reliable workhorse just like a full size tractor. Funny I don't see many people here complaining about the lack of speed and mobility of a combine on woodland trails. Yes Can Am produces some equivalent workhorses at twice the price but they are prone to constant service. Have you tried herding cows and sheep with the Foreman?
The little spot where you put the phone on the four wheeler is not actually a storage . They use the same plastics for more base models atvs with a manual shift nob to put it in 4 wheel drive. Also the rear diff is always locked it’s not a limited slip love the videos good luck with the four wheeler
Recently bought a 2022 Honda rancher it’s got the independent rear suspension and electronic power steering and the automatic I love it took a little bit too get use to it was big but it’s a useful tool on my farm
You may not have to put it neutral each time you start. On our Honda Rincon, you can just hold in the right brake handle and the engine will start while it's in gear so you don't have to switch it to neutral each time. Ours is 2006 model I think and could be different now, but give it a shot.
In Oklahoma, if you're a disabled veteran you are allowed to ride a motorized vehicle/4 Wheeler or side-by-side into the woods to hunt. I said only people who are allowed to ride the vehicle into the woods for the purpose of hunting.
from what the dealer told me (i just bought this model but a 2024) h said the wrench will com on when service is due. the only downer to doing your own service to these machines is that only a dealer can clear the service light (the wrench)
not true at all my friend.....you can clear that service light by depressing the button...tons of vids out there on how to reset it. It's probably in the owner's manual also. Doesn't matter if it's a 2004 or a 2024. Check into it.....you can reset the service light
I dunno much about honda 4 wheelers. But I do know that nothing outlasts the old honda 3 wheelers from the 70s and 80s. Got 2 and they will run great another 40 years I'm sure.
That “storage” area on the side you mention is no storage area. That’s where the hi/low shifter would come out. As far as no storage, it’s a atv not a rv. It’s for riding not travelling state to state. Put a rear box or seat on it and you get more storage area than you can use
My dad had a hand shift Forman 2000 model and it had enough miles on the screen to go to north California and back and I live in south Mississippi haha
Josh, pretty hard to beat the Hondas. 2013 I bought my first 4 wheeler, wanted a Honda, the bigger one with the independent rear suspension, your back will love you for that. Could not find a decent one, so settled for an Arctic Cat 400, which had the Suzuki engine. It had the rear independent suspension, also came with a set of tracks, for the snow, geesh that thing would go anywhere with them. I do have a bad back and I found the independent rear suspension, is a must. Also the automatic with low range, is very nice no shifting what so ever. Hondas have the auto as well, bit more money, but if anything happens to that electronic shift the fix is $$$$$. I sold the Arctic Cat, and got a Polaris Ranger 700, for wood ect, and can still go on runs with the boys, and take the Grandkids for runs, but not the same as the old wheeler. My son in law has a Kawasaki 4 wheeler, and it is al right, but I really do miss the old Arctic Cat, it did impress me, but I am thinking the newer ones have the Kawasaki engines now, or Cat themselves. So thinking I may look for a Suzuki, in the near future. Oh and yes winch is a must, they do not push out easy.. lol
That top "Storage Space" for the cell phone isn't really a storage place. That is where the old 2wd to 4wd lever used to go. Instead of making new fairings to account for the change they put that black piece of plastice in behind the red body work. Thus making a little pocket that will lose anything you put in it.
Would've been funny to see you singing Stoney Ridge song during the intro of riding around on the Honda. Honda makes some reliable stuff. Enjoy the new ride. What's her name?
Crazy how similar yet different this is to my 80’s model fourtrax. The biggest difference is accessories and plastics. The old one had less plastic and less accessories. It also had a simpler design overall but still I notice many similarities. Rest assured that your machine will do some work. My 80’s model fourtrax 250 has on many occasions pulled 2,000+ pounds and it’s only a 250, that 500 ought to eat it up. Enjoy your new machine it will serve you for years!
It’s funny I have a 2004 rancher and other than a few more storage bins ,the gas tank location and extra light on foreman, it’s pretty much the same unit… I guess “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!”… I love my rancher! GL with yours … and please show a video on the upgraded racks.
Josh, it sounds like you are already looking into the loader system and three point hitch from Wildhare Mfg from the way you described it, but in case you are not, please check it out. It seems like something that could be very useful to you and your family on your farm.
Well I’ll be darn. Yesterday I went to the Honda website and ebay looking for one and here this video popped up on screwtube. Ain’t that something I have a 2017 Rancher 420 irs power steering auto shift. Its a great machine
You stated the shocks were at 2nd to highest position. That is actually the 2nd to lowest. If you crank the adjustment counterclockwise you are actually increasing the tension on the coil spring which will make the ride stiffer. Neither position will actually raise or lower the suspension. Less tension, allows the spring to compress easier with less weight. More tension requires more weight for compression.. BTW - when showing the features of info station, was 14.3 hrs or tripometer? Just thought I’d share. Great machine, enjoy and don’t forget that helmet.
We've got 2 grizzlys and the honda.I have to say I like the automatic transmission on the grizzly 700 better and the notches on suspension is for a tight ride or a softer ride ,doesn't make it higher or lower. Thanks for the video man.
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF WITH THIS MODEL ! I have a 2017 Rubicon special edition but basically the same exact thing as the 2020 .I had multiple issues with the throttle position censor, not really a big deal but the check engine lite stays on until you the shop resets it ..also when using a snow plow on the front and having the extra weight in the power steering it gets hot and stops working so if you turn it off and let it cool down for a bit the power steering will work again until it gets hot again ..also its really important to keep the clutches adjusted! When they get out of adjustment the thumb shift becomes sluggish and you will find that its hard to get into reverse and shifting back into 1st gear ..I really wish I got the foot shift but its not available in the special edition..other than these things listed its dam near a perfect machine ..I use it for all types of work and alot of extreme trails ..the full locking 4 wheel drive is awsome when going up the power lines in deep rutted and massive rock trail s ...mine is still stock and have yet to get it stuck ..I live back in the mnts of WV and have access to 100 mi of trails and I havnt found one trail or hill that I couldn't get through ..id put the dependability of Honda against any other four wheeler ..not once has this thing left me sitting or broke down and I really have put this thing to the test..fyi, mine is the independent suspension in the rear with disc brakes in the rear also im not sure how good the straight axle would do on the extreme places I go but from the looks of the flat fields u have im sure it will be just fine
@@Mattias.Bergstrom probably something to do with this ethanol gas eating away at the gaskets ..I try not to use ethanol because mine sits for long periods of time while I'm away at work . If I use ethanol gas I put the stabilizer in to protect the fuel lines ..been quite a while that I've had mine now and still no issues aside from that throttle position sensor .
nice bike can't beat Honda I have a Yamaha Kodak very good bike to but both my motor cycles are Hondas and was going to buy a Honda 4 wheeler but couldn't get a salesman that really wanted to deal with me there is the bike take it or leave it that was two times so I knew a young man working for Yamaha so guess where I went that was in 2009 okay I will shut up you have a great day enjoy your bike thanks for sharing
Nice machine! Wish I could’ve convinced the other half to let me get a Honda. I recently picked up a 2020 Canam Outlander 450 and I love it! Not all the fancy storage places, power steering or any of them bells and whistles but it gets the job done :)
Looking forward to seeing more videos on the quad additions our disabled daughter just got one so looking forward to what you add to the machine re carrying stuff and storage my daughter wants to be able to feed her pigs so carrying stuff very important
I have a 2008 Honda 420 rancher electric shift and the only thing I’ve ever had replaced on it was the shifter because I used to go mudding and never cleaned it so now it’s just for farm use and it’ll get up to about 60 mph on flat ground

Yes it is
Electric shift is easier and funner to drive in my opinion. If it breaks, the parts are available and cheap and easy to fix. Id stick with electric shift.

Yep....you can manually shift this with the tool in the toolbox if needed my friend...I prefer the manual myself...frees up a hand for filming lol
Good looking 4 wheeler stoneyman you exactly right go red or go dead honda is the best brother
I sold an older diesel Gator and bought a Pioneer 1,000 and Rubicon Deluxe. Love them and way better than the Gator.
I think that bike is a 2019 because of the headlight pod and the racks are not the 2020 one! But very nice machine
Did you see that "Lumuna Acres" just picked up a 500 acre of light forested land, good luck to him and you with your farm
@Ptguy0618 i get jealous when people have more than me, also. Lmao.
You may not have to put it neutral each time you start. On our Honda Rincon, you can just hold in the right brake handle and the engine will start while it's in gear so you don't have to switch it to neutral each time. Ours is 2006 model I think and could be different now, but give it a shot.
Yessir thanks so much...another viewer pointed that out to me also...I nearly cut a flip! Thanks for the awesome tip!
In Oklahoma, if you're a disabled veteran you are allowed to ride a motorized vehicle/4 Wheeler or side-by-side into the woods to hunt. I said only people who are allowed to ride the vehicle into the woods for the purpose of hunting.
even if it's your pinky finger that's has you qualified as a disabled vet?
from what the dealer told me (i just bought this model but a 2024) h said the wrench will com on when service is due. the only downer to doing your own service to these machines is that only a dealer can clear the service light (the wrench)
not true at all my friend.....you can clear that service light by depressing the button...tons of vids out there on how to reset it. It's probably in the owner's manual also. Doesn't matter if it's a 2004 or a 2024. Check into it.....you can reset the service light
A new toy is always fun... good luck with your farm pumping out of your 4 wheeler..
Have a good day 🍁🍁🍁
Galion wire fence shells. Dump rocks in for permanent beautiful rock walls. Touch em once. Great plans. Big fan.
Tip- in the air intake, get chicken wire and roll it tight and shove it in the intake pipe. no mice!!!
I live ther to near forest mississippi and my dad also had one
That Honda will take you to the old folks home!!!
Oh and yes winch is a must, they do not push out easy.. lol
A friend of mine had a bucket for his atv. It's to hevey for the which and keep stripping the gears out of the winches with the bounce it causes.
Thanks for keeping the bloopers in at the end, good to see you still make goofs. Wooooooooo!
That top "Storage Space" for the cell phone isn't really a storage place. That is where the old 2wd to 4wd lever used to go. Instead of making new fairings to account for the change they put that black piece of plastice in behind the red body work. Thus making a little pocket that will lose anything you put in it.
Glad you got the 4 wheeler
Nice tutorial. Atv vs side by side or compact tractor !
we run polaris sportman 570SP's and love them....farm looking good Josh.
What year are they because I have a 2020 Polaris sportsman 570 Premium edition In Blue
Can't wait to see it pimped out with the loader, new racks and the 3 point!
I also have an 80’s model 3 wheeler and it is a mud beast it just doesn’t do much work because of the stability.
2000 plus pounds on a 250😳😳😳 this machines rated for 900 but ur making me second guess that
@@fabiancoretti4237 oh yeah, it pulled our double axle steel livestock trailer pretty easy. As long as you can keep traction it’ll pull about anything
@@stonewintjen505 oh with wheels ok yeah that’s different, thought u mean u literally moved a 2000 pound object like a big tree log or smth
We had ATVs in AFG to move gear around. When we were in garrison, they were a blast to tool around the base.
Storage should be your least concern but a box for it. The straight axle will put the Hurtin on your back but that’s a nice quad
Another machine for upkeep boys and toys
Props to this guy for making his own intro music
Josh, it sounds like you are already looking into the loader system and three point hitch from Wildhare Mfg from the way you described it, but in case you are not, please check it out. It seems like something that could be very useful to you and your family on your farm.
Well I’ll be darn. Yesterday I went to the Honda website and ebay looking for one and here this video popped up on screwtube. Ain’t that something
I have a 2017 Rancher 420 irs power steering auto shift.
That space where you wear putting your phone is where the manual 4x4 shifter is but it looks like yours is not the manual shifter
When I travel internationally and they ask me have I been to a farm. Does watching stoney ridge farms on RUclips count?
FYI If you pull back the brake lever you can start it in any gear.
Thanks for another great demo. Things have really changed since the older models. I still like the old dump truck better lol
Correct me if I’m wrong but Honda changed that reverse system in 2020 models, still that style in 2019.
The prior year models had a locking system built into the rack for attaching stuff looks better too
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF WITH THIS MODEL !
My has the fuelpump broken down! 2019 foreman Only 100h
Looks like you are having a blast.
nice bike can't beat Honda I have a Yamaha Kodak very good bike to but both my motor cycles are Hondas and was going to buy a Honda 4 wheeler but couldn't get a salesman that really wanted to deal with me there is the bike take it or leave it that was two times so I knew a young man working for Yamaha so guess where I went that was in 2009 okay I will shut up you have a great day enjoy your bike thanks for sharing
Great review, very thorough and to the point. Keep up the good work of producing quality videos.
Great review. I look forward to seeing the long term, high mileage or hours review.
That power steering is super sweet!.
Nice machine! Wish I could’ve convinced the other half to let me get a Honda. I recently picked up a 2020 Canam Outlander 450 and I love it! Not all the fancy storage places, power steering or any of them bells and whistles but it gets the job done :)
Also put on a 3000lb viper synthetic rope winch for $220 from the Amazon, simple install and works well so far
Hey Josh thank you for the video and I hope you and mrs. Stoney ridge had a quiet and peaceful Thanksgiving
Woohoo, Farmall Fanatic got a Rancher and you got a Foreman! Honda wheelers are taking over RUclips lol. Nice buy Josh!
