If he can't convince you how bad it is for disabled artists in this business, I don't know what to say.
I can tell you this, this actress having no arm, I had not even registered it when I was watching the episode. Totally flew over my head. As I was concentrating on her and Dan's relationship, and I never noticed or cared she had no arm. Her acting was lovely, and that should be the most important thing.
Deep sigh. Joseph Williamson was a real bloke. A philanthropist Christian. He did dig tunnels in Liverpool at the end of the Napoleonic wars. It was a time of great depression. Lots of demobed workless soldiers and the economy was a mess. The tunnels genuinely did have no puropse. The people have speculated about them ever since. I think.its a nice nod to a good local mystery.
Also Williamson was known as a philanthropist the tunnels were built just to give people work there is some detailed stonework in places where it would never be seen it was basically a victorian skills development program for poor people
Honestly, I saw she had one arm, went "OK" then immediately moved on. It didn't even process, just like the scientist from Pyramid at the End of the World being a dwarf (I think people complained about her too for equally bigoted reasons). Conservatives *literally* look for reasons to be offended rather than actually process the media itself.
@@LegendofBen There is a nothing “empty” about false equivalency. It encapsulates most of your opinion that “liberals make big deals out of benign issues” and framing it as no different than right-wing bigotry. If that’s not your intention, great, but I would frame it differently IMO.
Fun Fact: Nabil Shaban known to the Doctor Who audience as Sil was once considered to play a new incarnation of Master during an early draft of The Talons of Wheng-Chiang
Didn't know that but I did know (from Nabil's Myth Makers) that he did write to JNT saying he would love to play what would have been the 6th Doctor having been a long-time fan of the show. Needless to say JNT gave him a very polite no but Nabil was brilliant as Sil. Didn't bother me that he was a disabled man playing a villain, he was still great.
As a disabled person (stroke victim) im glad the episode didnt focus on it. We are not our disabilities. Treat it like a new piece of clothing or a new hair color. At most notice it quickly then move on.
Totally agree. As someone who is missing their right hand, I appreciate that they show her just living life, not dwelling on it. It was much appreciated.
With regards to the food bank scene - the sad reality fact in November 2021 is that millions of people depend on food banks in the UK to just survive for a couple of days. Dr Who reflecting what is actually happening in real life Britain is fine by me. I remember the classic "The Avengers" from ITV in the sixties, and the writers openly said "we only recognise one class, the upper class" - with every episode a picture postcard version of Britain in 1966.
Its easy for Nerdrotic to complain about a Food bank appearing on a TV program from his geek cave of accumulated merchandise like some kind of nerdy dragon horde
I'm so glad you brought this up! This stream BROKE ME. The attitudes of them both is sickening, and I've now blocked them from ever darkening my screen again. I used to watch them, like I do a lot of whovian fan vids, but it was this one that broke me. Disgusting. Speaking as a mentally disabled person who lives on the poverty line & relies on foodbanks to get me through the darker months (I can't afford to feed myself AND pay bills), I was really impressed to see so many valid daily life facts represented onscreen in my favourite show. Thank you Mr Tardis. You speak facts my man! You are now my favourite Whovian RUclipsr!
@@jaytender4949 you don't really block them. But you can stop YT from showing you suggested channels. On mobile tap the 3 dots on the right hand side. The option to remove the channel from your feed is there, as well as other report options.
Doctor Who is for everyone, like you said... and not just the fans. I think there are many members of this community who struggle with that concept... and I think they need other hobbies.
@@MC-up7rl, I also think some of those none fans should respect those who are fans of the show, instead of saying they're fake, or only joined the show "X" years ago, so aren't real fans.
They really shouldn't be watching Doctor Who anymore. If the show continues to be largely set In the UK, then you should see more food banks being shown, given how depressingly normalised it is now. Happy to see a fictional future presented where everything gets better, but it isn't going to a conservative future. Frankly, I'm glad the show is how it is, it clearly irks all the right people.
Nerdrotic and Bowlestwat are idiots, Heels vs Babyface (whatever that name means) is just absolutely repulsive in every way. I admire you dismantling them but I also hate to see them getting the attention they crave.

God, it makes me sick that apparently according to RUclips's policies, some creators can have their videos demonetized for swearing, but blatant hate groups, racism and everything else these people are guilty of is totally fine.
I've got many problems with the last couple seasons of Doctor Who but having a couple of disabled actors in there I don't understand how that could be a problem.
Many people have problems with the last few series but for these kind of people it's literally always just about certain types of people being in an episode
Not only that, but Rose had a PoC boyfriend and was the daughter of a single mother. Given that all this was established in Series 1 Episode 1, I'm surprised they bothered to watch the rest ;)
Fantastic takedown of Nerdrotic and really the entire Fandom Menace. This video was the best palette cleanser I could hope for after my Nerdrotic stream. thank you and keep up the good work!
This whole thing reminds me of when Bill Potts was introduced and everyone was like "Of course I have nothing against black people or lesbians but I wish they'd stop shoving it down our throats" and it's such a victimisation because how the hell is a few lines about her sexuality and The Doctor punching a guy who was racist towards her "Shoving it down our throats"?
@@Gh0stGamingincI don't remember them bringing it up that much, and tbh it's the reason I started watching. I was so happy to see a lesbian companion, it gave me the drive to rewatch and jump back into the community
It’s an ego thing, I think. They see someone who isn’t straight, white, heterosexual, able-bodied or male being portrayed well and suddenly the thing they’re reviewing isn’t saying how brilliant people with those attributes are.
Oh yes. A white nationalist group whose leader believes Britain should have allied with Hitler working with the Daleks, the Daleks' philosophy of racial purity being spelled out, and a young woman beating up Daleks with a baseball bat and shooting them with rocket launchers? They would be steaming.
Same that was litterally my first thought the only thing that pissed me off about the episode was bloody Alan, let Dan do his free tours, he only wants to make people happy, I can relate, bloody Alan... sorry that still pisses me off nearly a whole week on
I did notice her lack of a right arm while she was walking down the steps of the Liverpool museum with Dan because it's simply part of our human nature to notice things that deviate from what could be considered "the norm" and that was one aspect of her that stood out to me, but not to the extent that it took away anything from my enjoyment of the episode. Also the fact that she doesn't have a right arm doesn't necessarily mean she was born without one. For all we know, she could've had it amputated after an accident years ago or as a result of a health problem. Whatever the case, none of it really matters. After all, it wasn't something the episode took the time to address since there were much bigger things at stake. The only reason we're even talking about it is because certain uneducated RUclipsrs feel the need to look at the most minor of deviations from the norm and blow things way out of proportion, and then they call *us* snowflakes for making reasonable critical counter-arguments.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed how bigoted some corners of this fandom can be. *Disabled people exist* So many people on twitter being like: “WOKE!”

And yeah, the whole tangent about how all the military figures are women again has no basis in the show where soldiers have always been men and women and the biggest factor seems to be (not "identity politics") but which special guest they could get for the episode.
@@nico2605 Indeed, and the precedent for female UNIT commanders goes way back to the 1980s, with Brigadier Winifred Bambera played (wonderfully) by Angela Bruce - who is neither male nor white.
So glad I found you. I started looking on youtube to kind of catch up since I stopped watching a couple years about but was so disgusted with all the hate and bigotry for the last couple of seasons. I was just done, but then I came across your channel and finally found someone who could discuss the series intelligently. You are refreshing and a much-needed voice.
The moment I saw the character I was like: "Well, I bet some people are going to make a big issue out of this." At this point it has become too predictable.
Thing is, this episode did precisely what these guys are always insisting they want: had a minority and never drew attention to them. Diane's arm, never brought up once. At all. Ever. And they still got mad anyway, so 'forced diversity' is a crock of shit to hide garden variety discrimination. Disabled people exist, they should grow up.
fuck me, imagine having a problem with disabled people existing. disabled people live in the world. literally get over it. this video was fucking outstanding Will❤️
Thank GOD! You do not realize how refreshing this video is, as I was literally just complaining about the sheer toxic negativity that is encompassing DW currently, just as many from people who don't even watch the show as much as those who do. Like, I got irritated at the number of videos I saw on my recommended that boiled down to pointing and laughing at the abysmal overnight ratings it got, even though for those that did watch it the majority of responses I saw was everyone agreeing that it was greatly enjoyable, if a bit busy. Now, this is not to say that the toxic positivity going - out of their way to attack anyone that even seemingly tries to criticize the current show even constructively - are any better, but I cannot stand the people who are saying that DW is dead and even claim they're going out of their way encourage people not to watch the show, appearing to ignore the decades of legacy it had, even in the twelve or so years of Modern Who prior to 13. It just greatly saddens me that this is the state of DW now. If you like it, ANY part of it, you're a shill and a feminazi or whatever. If you don't like it, you're a misogynist or an istophobe or something. And people like us, the normal fans that can see both the good and the bad, are stuck in the middle, suffocated and seemingly unable to find a widespread voice. I'm genuinely excited for Doctor Who moving forward; RTD is coming back with full creative control, the 60th anniversary is less than two years away, and even Season 13 feels like it's off to a strong start, but with all the fighting it makes it hard to feel that way.
Follow-up I had actually watched some of Nerdrotic's videos when the Thirteenth Doctor got started, I wasn't subscribed or anything I just saw his stuff, but eventually tuned out and blocked his videos because they just got so redundant. Now I see this video and all the bullcrap that he actually spouts and realize, "wow. He is scum. I'm glad I stopped watching him."
When it comes to characters, it doesn't matter to me if they're disabled, LGBT, or that they are from a different country, what matters is that they are well written, and the story that is being told is good. I watched the latest Doctor Who episode and I found none of what these conservatives say was an issue in the episode.
I just realised Nadia Albina was in the National Theatre production of 'The Madness of George III'. She's a great actor in her own right. Can't believe people have a problem with her in Doctor Who.
Hey @Mr Tardis I found your video interesting. As a long standing Doctor Who fan who is disabled, I do feel that more disabled acters should be in main stream media in general. Granted I am not a fan of the Chibnall era for a number of reasons, It was good to see that the disability that she had completely normalised. I am blind myself and it wasn't mentioned in the Audio Description that Dianne had any sort of disability. I feel this needs to happen more and is the way forward. @@galarstar052 Admittedly Davros is an alien, so it's not quite the same as say an able bodied person playing someone in a wheelchair. But that being said, Davros is canonically disabled, so what makes it a 'dumb idea' for a disabled person to play him? The role doesn't require any physicality that would be beyond a disabled performer, so why is it an absurd suggestion to say that such an iconic role should be extended to someone disabled? Especially when it's much harder to find work as a disabled performer, so a role this huge would be amazing for their career.
I told youtube to never show me nerdrotic or bowlestrek stuff years ago. I had honestly forgotten they existed until these recent videos by the ever reliable Mister Tardis. I am not disabled. I'm curious whether those channels are legit Doctor Who fans or they're just talking about it and using the topical nature of Doctor Who coming back on screens for Series 13 to drive views to their channels to push their political agendas?

They already make us the butt of so many quick jokes, the idea of them just going all-in on it for an extended period of time is not something I’m looking forward to (when it inevitably happens).
Not sure why they are referred to as 'fans'. They are just Reactionary RUclipsrs. They are not really fans who have properly watched the show over the years (or any show they go after really) and have no idea who pays the TV licence that funds BBC TV.
I asked a few days ago, about when you'd be doing a takedown on Nerdrotic, and by God you've delivered! First Bowlestrek, now Nerdrotic. You're outdoing yourself Mr. TARDIS. Thanks for this video dude, I thought it was really cool that the actor who played Diane had a disability and how the representation was that it wasn't made part of the story at all and I find it inspiring that a disabled person was represented so well. I am disabled myself and I didn't even notice that she only had one arm which I thought I would be able to spot it straight away. Warwick Davis is another great actor with a disability who has appeared in Doctor Who before and I wonder if Nerdrotic had issues with disability representation then. Nerdrotic is an ablest always thought he was a bit of an prick anyway.
There was a woman with only one arm in "The Ascension of The Cybermen" and "The Timeless Children" which was only 2 episodes prior. Rhiannon Clements played Bescot. Its an interesting coincidence that there was 2 actresses cast with the same disability just 2 episodes apart.
@@SavageBroadcast I’ll have to watch the episode again. But my point still stands, it wasn’t at any point drawn attention to. It’s like the one zombie from Shaun of the Dead who was played by an actor with arm. Nerdrotic would just say it’s diversity.
What's most baffling is that Doctor Who fans thought it would be a good idea to be nitpicky about Storm Trooper aiming after this Not My Doctor bullshit happened. When anti SJW lunatics are saying bullshit nitpicks like "A 1 arm lady existing is horrible and makes an episode bad." of course the bullshit nitpick "Storm Trooper aiming automatically makes a story bad." is not going to be taken seriously and well received. When negative criticism is tarnish by anti SJW lunatics, nitpicks are going to be seen as really stupid bullshit regardless of who says it and what the nitpick is. What also doesn't help those that hate the Chibnall era and aren't Not My Doctors is acting like the Chibnall era is the only thing in existence that is bad at the negative criticisms they give it. It's hard to believe that the Chibnall era is the only thing that is bad at Stormtrooper aiming and invented it since the trope of villain's having bad aiming was named after villain's from a movie that premiered in theaters in 1977. Acting like the Chibnall era is the only thing in existence that has the negative criticisms you give it at worse will get you passed off as a Not My Doctor or at best come across as Chuck McGill at the end of Chicanery. Saying "_ is the only thing that is bad at _" only encourages people think about other examples of what you’re bashing and to call you a hypocrite. If I acted like Hell Bent was the only thing in existence that did the bullshit it did, then I would be called a hypocrite and be bugged with other examples of Hell Bent bullshit. It's petty to make a big fuss over a small thing like a 1 arm lady and Storm Trooper aiming when giving negative criticism. If I harped on the Hell Bent scenes where The Doctor ate soup and the Storm Trooper aiming of the Gallifrey soldiers as my main reason to hate Hell Bent, then I would be doing an awful job at giving negative criticism and convincing people that it’s a bad episode.
Heels vs Babyface and other like minded channels including Bowelstrek all sing from the same sheet ...... the bottom line is ... these channels would want to see doctor who cancelled by any means without doing their research ..... they never remembered the line from The Doctor "Hate is always foolish , and love is always wise" ....... all of that was absent when their usual attack all because they see "woke" where ever they go.
I always wonder if people like these Mary Whitehouse types even liked Dr Who in the first place. Seems like they just watch it now to pander to their right-wing audiences anyway. Little England incarnate.
They're fine with disabled characters like davros or John Lumic (or The Joker and others in comicbooks) because they're the stereotypical trope of the disabled villain.
Well they aren't happy with everyone they classify as 'woke' being the villain as they cried about Jesse James Keitel being the villain in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, they are also now angry about Jinkx Monsoon appearing in Doctor Who as a villain.

Exactly - they'll go to any lengths to find something to whinge about. I saw one NMD say that Jodie was guilty of "abuse" and "cruelty" to the TARDIS because she hit the console too hard with the hammer.
THIS is precisely why I avoid being called a "fan" of damned near anything. Far too often, those who proclaim themselves "fans" are among the most knee-jerk reactionary (NOT in any genuine sense of the word conservative) viewers/readers out there... and that sort of thing absolutely kills creativity in anything written, painted, sculpted, or put on film or other viewing media. I will admit to being startled when I saw the character... but it was a momentary surprise; that is all. She is a genuinely memorable character not because of the missing arm, but because she is a memorable character, period. Her difference -- I hesitate to call it a disability, having worked with more than one person who had such, yet could perform their duties quickly, efficiently, and well -- was, after that first momentary startlement BECAUSE you seldom see such in programs WITHOUT the focus being on that difference, which it was not here, quite incidental... and added realism because we DO run into people of all stripes in real life. They ain't all perfect either physically or emotionally/mentally... so why the devil should they be in a program which is purportedly taking place in a world at least closely akin to the one we all live in. It wasn't the program which made this a big deal... it was these viewers. Look, not liking something is one thing, and not by itself to be censured -- de gustibus non disputandum; but at least have a SENSIBLE reason for making a big deal out of something you're going to complain about. If you don't like it just because you don't like it, FINE. But to turn it into this "culture war" crap is sheer lunacy. At least a fair percentage of the "fans" (or at least those who are among the most vocal) have a problem because the Doctor is a woman. Why, exactly? Hell, both Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker brought up that as a possibility, noting there was no actual reason why such couldn't be the case. If THEY could do that 45-50 years ago... don't you think it's time we were past such childish nonsense as to gripe about a mere change of sex? If you don't like Jodi's performance, that's certainly your right. Frankly, I think she's done quite well, just as I think, for all the complaints, the show under Chibnall's reign has not only been not a disaster, but often quite brilliant. I'm not saying anything against previous show-runners in making that statement; each has had their faults and their virtues, but overall I think the program has had a great deal to offer throughout, from Hartnell on down. I am even (so far as I know) among the minority in having found the whole "Timeless Child" thing not only not offensive, but a wonderful concept... in some ways, it goes back to the very roots of the program, with the mysteries concerning the Doctor, which we have adjusted to as the norm, suddenly having an explanation that completely shakes up our understanding of that universe. Nor does it actually go against canon, so far as I can see; it simply adds new layers to it which keep it an intellectual and aesthetic adventure for the viewer, as well as adding a whole new realm for the writers (and actors, directors, etc.) to explore. I have noted before a certain kinship with the work of Michael Moorcock in that respect: In both cases, we begin with relatively simple models but, as time goes on, more and more complexity, more and more possibilities, are added... and the result is a very, very rich tapestry constantly allowing for new directions, surprises, and an almost infinite number of possibilities on where to go -- in other words, allowing MORE creativity, MORE excitement, MORE possibilities for the viewer to enjoy and expand their view of what we THOUGHT we knew. To me, that is not a bad thing; that is the very soul of art and storytelling. To become offended at that -- well, as I said, they are certainly free to do so, but at this point all I'm seeing (with a few notable exceptions) is people who, for whatever reason, find something either offensive or threatening simply because it doesn't fit their preconceptions or prejudices on what the program should be, NOT because the people making the program have not done an honest job in exploring these avenues, making bad artistic choices or violating the implications of their own conceptions, but merely because they've had the audacity to question, to go with the very heart of sf (whether you mean "science fiction" or "speculative fiction"): to ask "WHAT IF?" and then look at the various possibilities opened up. I'm a lover of the program. I have been since I first discovered it in 1978; I quickly, once I found out it had such a long history, looked up everything I could about those other years (originally my only outlet was the Target novelizations and the Doctor Who magazine, from its "weekly" status to much later times) and, finally, managing to watch/listen to every single episode of the thing since its inception. Has it had its wobbles? Oh, most definitely. Has it had its bad episodes? Eeee-yup. (Though, to be honest, I've never found one where I felt my time was wasted. I've always found enough which I thought was good about the program to feel I got enough value from it to make it worth my time and expense in putting the whole thing together.) But, even when I haven't liked a thing, I've been honest enough to say that it was more a matter of personal taste about that thing; or, where I HAVE taken exception beyond that, I think I've had genuine artistic criticisms to lodge, and NEVER have I condemned the entire production, nor actor(s), nor concepts involved... because, in my view, there has never been a time when it has been entirely lacking or without value or worth. To say something "sucks" is simply to show you have nothing on your side EXCEPT personal taste; and while that, like the concept of there being SOME kind of god(s) out there is unarguable... it also shows a complete lack of critical ability beyond simply recognizing what you like and what you don't... and frankly, that is only of worth to yourself and people who have the same views you do -- and even that latter tends to fall down quickly, as shared views are usually quite circumscribed. I find such "tempests in a teapot" occasionally amusing, IF the person making the argument is at least clever, witty, or able to use the language to good effect... but generally boring to the degree that they make my teeth ache. Give me some valid artistic reasoning, and I'm willing to listen; if you can make an argument coherent and perceptive enough, I may even end up agreeing with you. But to date, all I've seen from the vast majority of complaints has fallen into the category which explains why, though I am a great lover of the program and have been for almost 44 years, I refuse to be called a "fan"... of this, of sf, or of damned near anything else. PLEASE, people, if you are going to lodge complaints, make them substantive on a creative, artistic level, not all this silly nonsense which is going to simply look childish and silly to any who don't agree whole-heartedly with you, and even then likely to look such a few years down the line. Make your arguments something which themselves will stand the test of time, and be contributions to an intelligent discussion on the subject, not a mere showing of prejudices and narrow thinking. That, in my estimation, only makes you look like a fool... and wouldn't it be so much better to end up looking like someone who has actually thought things out and made some good, valid arguments that will be a joy to read/hear, even if we disagree? Think about it.

The tunnels genuinely did have no puropse. The people have speculated about them ever since. I think.its a nice nod to a good local mystery.
That's a cool bit of information. I like it when doctor who offers up an explanation for real world phenomena
Cheers for this information.
Also Williamson was known as a philanthropist the tunnels were built just to give people work there is some detailed stonework in places where it would never be seen it was basically a victorian skills development program for poor people

Yet all far lefties do is talk about what makes them "different" or holds them back
With regards to the food bank scene - the sad reality fact in November 2021 is that millions of people depend on food banks in the UK to just survive for a couple of days.

As I was concentrating on her and Dan's relationship, and I never noticed or cared she had no arm. Her acting was lovely, and that should be the most important thing.

HeelsvsBabyFace sounds like that kid you knew back in High School who wanted to be 'interesting'.
