    James, I recently bought the close brother of your black one there. I honestly prefer it to any of the CS or Masterbuilts I have owned, and it’s right up there with the best of the vintage ones I have owned/played. Looks, feel and most importantly tone, it really delivers on all fronts. Not sure if yours has the ‘chunky ‘62 C’ profile? It is superb. Love your content, keep up the great work!

    They definitely need to be dialed in outta the factory and the store. But after that, they're pretty darn amazing

    I have the exact same black strat from MB, it is a monster strat, mine is not as dark as yours I'd say, it's hands down the best sounding strat I ever played or in top 2 for sure... I just have a problem with the chunky vintage C shape which is a little too much for my small hands... I wish I could find one sounding the same with the small Vintage C neck profile now...

    At least the relic job on these is realistic. Fender usually goes full fantasy mode on theirs and other companies don’t look good.

    James, when at Coda did you try the Carr Mercury V… great amp and can get amazing tones, excellent Hendrix tones also.

      D’you know what, i did, and just didn’t get on with it there and then. Perhaps i’m not used to a small combo having such direct, focused tones and also the attenuation really which i had to use for most of the time just wasn’t doing it for me. I think it is one i need to try again. Coda are going to lend me some gear to review so i may ask for that 🤟🏼

    Hey! I’m looking into some teles and strats. I’m a full time working musician and If I had to go Masterbuilt or M.B, what would you suggest? I’m having a hard time choosing between the two, despite the differences you listed in this video.
    I recently had a Masterbuilt that was an incredible feeling guitar. However, the sound didn’t really click with me despite some of the mods I made to it.
    Above anything else, I prioritize playability and sound. My issue is it’s difficult to find any of these guitars to try. So I’m hesitant to drop so much money on them even though I know they’re great instruments.

    • @JamesOnGuitar
      @JamesOnGuitar  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Ah… yes, good question. I really liked them both instantly and was trading a large amount of gear so it all just came together really! I had always wanted a black strat and this one is just perfect in my eyes, and i still wanted a traditional looking early 60’s 3 tone burst… so… yeah 😂

      I dunno if it’s just how it looks over video, but the bridge looks brand new. Is it aged in real life?

    • @JamesOnGuitar
      @JamesOnGuitar  Год назад

      @@Mike-ln7dy yeah hopefully if you look again you can see it is very matt and sort of worn down. I’m not sure how real to life that is but it looks aesthetically good, because the old ones i’ve played often still have very undamaged chrome or whatever it is even when otherwise quite aged looking in the finish

    • @Mike-ln7dy
      @Mike-ln7dy Год назад

      @@JamesOnGuitar ahhhh, that makes total sense. To be honest it’s probably that I’ve seen so many ‘relics’ that I’ve been conditioned into thinking that rust=vintage!

  • @neilscholes566
    @neilscholes566 Год назад

    James you talk about the finish a lot, how is the playability of the MB’s compared to a Master Built Fenders and to Vintage Fenders.

    • @JamesOnGuitar
      @JamesOnGuitar  Год назад

      It’s more like a vintage one in my experience - and i feel that is on purpose and part of the charm. They play well but still need the player’s skill to dig in and it is very satisfying. For whatever reason some masterbuilt guitars feel more ‘modern’ or just not intended to feel like 60 year old guitars which can also be good!

      Those could be really really good guitars, but a MB guitar is a bit of a different level because of the materials used and the attention to detail, thats where the magic lies. But until you did not had one, you never miss it, so don't spoil the game for yourself :D I don't think anybody needs a MB guitar, but nice to have haha.
