I pulled the trigger on the GXL v2, a couple months ago, as my starter scooter. Been loving it ever since, for my very short commute, the speed is adequate. However, I'm ready to step up to the Zero 8 or 9, which was my aspiration scooter from the start. Your review on the GXL is spot-on!
@djgcue, I'm glad the GXL has worked for you. The Zero 8 or 9 would be step up, I hope there are even more mid-budget (500-1000) options coming soon. Thanks!
I am also in the same vote. Less than a week owning my GXL V2, and I want the Zero 8.
I have a zero. 9 as my 1dt scooter and like it slot but find it a bit heavy for. Some applications and slot of scooter... Thinking bout getting either the gxl or 365 for short trips to the market and pharmacy, also as a swcon dacooter to ride with my 13 year old or wife, especially when we are on the weekend trips to the beach house.... Which one do u recommend xwill this be OK or shoudo I just pony up the Xtra 100 for the 365
I just bought one waiting for it to get here on thursday, went through amazon, your reviews are very informative and I base my purchase off of most of the reviews that you've done great job I think I'll like it
@Damien Littlejohn, I hope it works out for you. I know I was kind of hard on the Gotrax but it if you get a good one, for the price, it's hard to beat. Thanks for the comment!
Mine arrived today. Easy to assemble and easy to operate...
thumbs up for the effort! 👍
Great review my friend
Thank you Earl and thanks for watching!
I got the GoTrax GXL V2 three months ago on Amazon after listening to your review. Very helpful and informative, thank you. We love it. We live in a rural area, small town-new development. My husband and I both use it occasionally as well as our two youngest girls, 15 and 13. They go out everyday with it. Very well made scooter, our first. I’m so happy with it I’d say it’s my best purchase since buying my classic car lol.
It slows down going uphill and the battery charge drops, because at that incline that’s how long it would last. I tell my girls to save the battery and walk it. They hang with their friends, go cruising with them, and errands for mom- all kinds of things. When they are out past my curfew I go out on it to round them up. Really nice not to have to pull out the car.
We have yet to take it camping and are hoping there isn’t a silly rule about it. We camp state campgrounds and private resorts. Fingers crossed for more summer fun ahead. 👍🏻
I'm glad the scooter has worked out well for you. Scooters are really a great way to get around and run short errands especially the budget, and usually lighter, models. Thanks for commenting!
Electron Surfer thanks!
How long can you use this scooter when its fully charged
So for the price range what do u recommend?
Hey I'm thinking of getting the GXL v2 and from your videos it looks like a nice scooter do u think it would be something to get and upgrade later on to like zero 8 or 9?
@ryan lubeck, I do think it can be a good choice to find out if scooter commuting works for you. That jump from 15 mph to 20 mph max speed for more expensive scooters is pretty huge though when commuting longer distances. Thanks for the comment.
How about the stability of the stem and handles when riding?? I used a few birds that seemed way to wobbly.
The GoTrax V2 has a really solid stem mechanism. You clamp down a quick release and its not moving much at all. Stable handling and braking are good on this scooter.
Just ordered one of these for my wife for while I'm Onewheeling. Looking forward to it on vacations and stuff.
Good use for it, I just got a OneWheel and the Gotrax should keep up. Camping and road trips are great uses for budget scooters as well! Cheers
What do you think about the nanrobot x4 2.0 with the 500w motor? Can you do a review on that one?
I haven't ridden that scooter, I've had some correspondence from Nanrobot but have yet to get one ordered.
I had a gotrax gxl v2 for 3 months and I recently sold it to upgrade to the fluidfreeride horizon (zero8). I think you were right on pretty much everything you said. I think it is a good scooter to test out if this kind of thing will work for you before shelling out big money for a good scooter. My gxl did 16.5mph and this was verified by phone gps to within +/- 1mph. Also, i think the regen braking worked much better once you got moving and had more momentum. If you squeeze the brake level just a bit and trip the limit switch, without really activating the rear brake you can feel/hear the regen kicking in. Honestly, most of the time thats all i used to come to a slow stop. I have about a 5 mile commute and i also found the battery to be good for about 8 miles, the scooter did slow down to more like 12-13mph as the battery got down under 50%. I did not like how flimsy the folding mechanism felt just attached to the rear fender, and the rear fender did crack and have to be replaced a few weeks after i bought the scooter. I'm anxiously awaiting my horizon though, seeing how you like the zero 8 and it reviewed well, i can't wait.
Is it safe to buy, like does it have any unfixable issues cause a guy said it caught on fire
Where are you at full throttle and speed to where you did the range test because he only got up to maybe 12 mph but also depends upon your weight. I’ve seen people average around 15 and reach 17 mph
I am 175lbs and was riding on flat terrain to get up to only to 13 or so mph, even though the display would read 16. I've heard V2 has more quality issues than V1 did and others have had similar speed results as me while others got an actual 15-16.
Thanks for the review. Just a comment on brushless DC motors. The motor controller needs to know where the motor is in its rotation before it can start powering it. More complex (expensive) systems use some type of feedback from the motor to the controller like an encoder or hall-effect sensors. The Gotrax does not have that type of motor/controller, so it must use "back EMF" to determine what phase to energize. In other words, the motor must be turning before the controller can provide power. Once it is rotating, the controller can sense what phase to use by looking at the voltages induced in the motor's windings. This makes it more inexpensive, but requires a kick to get started. The fact that you can't hold the throttle then kick is likely a safety feature. I'm sure it also saves a ton of battery since starting from a dead stop would put a much greater load on the battery.
I get the impression that the motor in the Gotrax has enough power to go faster than the 12-13mph that it hits. It seems to me that the controller sets that top speed. Again, this is likely a safety feature. The lower "Gear 1" is just a lower speed limit. I find it useful if I'm navigating around in a congested area. However, I spend most of the time in "Gear 2". If someone clever out there pulls the guts out and replaces the controller with one that has no speed limit, I'm sure you'd hit your 15+ mph. As to if that is safe or not is up for debate. I find the top speed of the Gotrax just barely fast enough to not be frustrating. I'll admit that more top end would be nice.
I'll also agree with your range results. 10 miles on relatively flat roads seems to be about as far as I'll push it to avoid completely draining the battery. Plan on 8 miles to keep that buffer in case of unexpected circumstances.
Thank you for the detailed and informative comment. I think GoTrax may be sending me a new controller but I've gotten a bit better response from my dog than their customer service honestly.
I'd like to see a scooter with a controller that you could easily change the controller output and various settings, it would have to be used by experienced folks but it could really be nice to set it up for a long range ride or a short fast fun ride. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
Columbo reference, funny.
I have one of these arriving tomorrow, I will post some comments to let everyone know the results I encounter. I bought this one realistically for my son and girlfriend to ride as I bought a Ninebot Max, hopefully its not terrible. If it is I will look into one of those Zero 8 or 9 scooters you tested.
Thanks Mike S, hopefully yours outperforms mine.
@@ElectronSurfer Just got it yesterday did a few runs on it. My girlfriend hit an indicated speed of 18.6 but I'm sure that isn't accurate but its moving pretty darn quick. For me at 185 lbs, I'm in the 17.6 range. I'm sure my son at under 100 lbs will go more rapidly. I will probably test with GPS and run it against our families gas golf cart for comparison. Update: we retested again with a Garmin GPS and she was at 19.2 MPH, the display screen was showing almost exact as well.
Test drove mine last for the first time. I adjusted my brakes and tires are over 50psi. I weigh 170lbs and can only get 13mph on flat surface...15mph on slight downward incline. Also theres a slight wobble on the stem when pushing the handle bars forward and back. I checked the screws at the tiller and all 4 were tight...is that normal? Thanks
@Ray Rivera, It sounds like you have about the same speed performance as I was getting. I didn't get a wobble, did you crank down the quick release bolt after closing the mechanism? There does tend to be some play in all of the folding scooters handlebars. Thanks for commenting!
@@ElectronSurfer after a full charge I was getting 16mph on flat...all good for now thanks.
I bought one a week ago. In 2nd gear around the 6 to 8 mph range my scooter sounds kind of forced. After that it stops making that forced sound and goes back to sounding normal? Did you or any one else experience that? I just want to know if that's normal, or not. I do weigh 210 so thinking that might be a factor.
Its is pretty common for a growling/forced sound on many of these scooters at lower speeds. I tend to try and kick more when I get that to reduce potential strain on the motor. Thanks!
is gear one for climbing hill? does it give you more torque?
@wow0yunnies
, Gear one is just a slower speed, torque, and power for inexperienced riders or places where you want to ride very slowly. Thanks for the comment.
Increasing the tire pressure will make the speedometer more accurate in my experience it will actually increase the wheels circumference a noticeable amount
I went to the max PSI and unfortunately didn't see an increase in accuracy. I think that points to some quality control weaknesses where two scooters are preforming differently. Thanks for the comment.
Mine says it’s going 15.7 and gps says 13.7 so yeah the speedometer is inaccurate
How woild you test the speed without riding it ?
I shot 3 video's with the Gotrax, the main review was here. I just summarized a few things in this video. ruclips.net/video/Kuyg3feeCQM/видео.html
What is next on your review list?
@E-Scooters with Steven, I don't have one on the list currently, any suggestions?
@@ElectronSurfer Mercane widewheel?
@@stevenmarquez4476 I've had that suggestion. I am not convinced on it, some of the features don't appeal to me for personal use and there hasn't been anyway for me to get a demo unit as of yet.
@@ElectronSurfer You could always save up and review a higher end scoot like a dualtron. You ever get your mother that razor metro? That could be a fun little review in the meantime.
Its me Steven Marquez i just released a pov video yesterday of my alibaba scooter i told you about. When you get a chance could you check it out? I stayed in eco and gear 1 for the ride and forgot to hit capture when I went into gear 2 after taking a break. Plan on testing its top speed out eventually when the weather gets cooler since i do not want to wear any real armor in the heat and falling on burning hot pavement if something goes wrong does not sound fun. I'll also put up a video of the qiewa scooter soon too.
Falto pendientes
How many miles will it go if you do 15 mph the entire ride
I got 10.6 miles to no battery left and tried to maintain 15 mph as much as I could.
@@ElectronSurfer I’m wondering if I should retune the g2 plus gotrax I got and grab this one.. I’m still a lil worried tho bc the g2plus was supposed to go 7 miles and maxes out at 2 miles😭😭
That's a short range, I find that about half of advertised is normal so I'd take what range you need an look for a scooter advertising over twice that.
Whomever is reading this remember to spread as much LOVE AS POSSIBLE, don't litter, help out the homeless and take of nature please it's really important we gotta take care of eachother and mother earth. thank you and have a blessed life ❤
Hey Jim! Great review. Shoot me an email when you have a chance.
why would he email you your, not a pog gamer
Sorry dude but my does 15.5...😁
Mine also said 15.5 but it never did over 13. If yours really goes over 15 you got one of the 50% good ones! Thanks
Do not buy gotrax. If you have any problem, they take no responsibility for their failures. Mine was brand new and had an error code. They would not ship parts, but wanted the entire scooter returned and implied if they could fix it it would be at a minimal charge. They would not send packaging and said any damage in shipping was my responsibility. Terrible customer service.
