I'm a little surprised to see Zeos do a network player, since it's usually Hans's channel which does those reviews. It's funny watching Zeos be like a kid in a candy store as he discovers the awesomeness that is a network player. He should try a few more to have something to compare it to. Or, just watch Hans.

Yup. Shanling’s house sound is generally great. Always put their DAPs ahead of FiiO for me. How’s the hapless playback on the EM5? That’s one of those things about their DAP’s android OS that I find lacking.

Hello! Thanks for the fun and insightful review. I was at the store trying out this unit yesterday and was unable to get the EQ to work while streaming via Tidal. Was that user error? Since I am also looking at the M9, would you pls let me know whether you were able to get the eq to work with the M8 while streaming? Thanks!!!

minisd exists, i remember having phones with minisd. before iphones and android phones, there was windows mobile. and although sandisk transflash existed, it wasnt renamed to microsd yet.
LHDC is a Bluetooth codec similar to LDAC, it’s just Huawei’s version instead of Sony’s.
about the problem of no remote... cant you just hook up a blueooth keyboard and use the shortcut button to control the volume?
on the fence between this and dx7 pro basically needed for active speakers. i have easily driven headphones. the one thing about this that i would hesitate about EM5 is closed android so no neutron or poweramp. Also how good is the DAC in the EM5 vs dx7 pro?

No analog input, the one missing thing.
The phones volume rocker becomes the volume for the device. Its pretty cool.
Thanks. The volume idea really is neat. But it's likely a digital implementation. They need a version with analogue input and volume control via muse or ti chip.Then they would have the most competitive dac/streamer/HP amp/preamp in the market based on your impression of sound quality.

Can the volume knob be used to control the SPDIF output volume? I've got Meridian DSP speakers and long since lost the ability to control volume without a laptop and RS252 cable.

can probably be connected with a usb hub with an hdmi connection..connect to the TV to us as a monitor and connect a usb Bluetooth remote to control the shanling
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe my old Squeezebox Touch will do everything this thing does and more. Tidal, Qobuz, stream from NAS. USB out to Geshelli J2. OK, maybe not MQA but I can use Android software to sync to my Android TV boxes and Chromebox and play the whole house.
I can't understand or justify the top display. How am I supposed to use it? Should I stand up while I listen to music, of course after putting that gizmo on a desktop?

Sound wise, is it as good or better than the Oppo HA-1? Think it has the digital vu meters on it as well. I know this does a lot more, but just in terms of the sound quality, which is better?

@@masterxyr To be honest, it's a pretty decent amp, it cannot drive a lot of higher demand headphones, don't approach this with 300ohm etc. However, I REALLY like my Focal's on it.

Can this do Apple Music?
He does mention it in the section where he starts using Amazon Music. The menu allows you to add different apps to that submenu, including Apple Music, Qubuz(?), and Tidal, among some others I didn't recognize.
Since it runs on Android, I wonder if it resamples everything to 48kHz like a phone would.
Shanling player have some kind of thing where it latches to an apps audio stream and sends that to the DAC losslessly. I have an m3x and it will only audio from one app at a time.
