    The paints look worth a punt , I’ll order a couple and see where we go from there, enjoy your Holiday mate and thanks for creating a great channel, it’s not easy coming up with content and sticking to timelines but you’ve done a great job from small beginnings , definitely going places if you can keep it up alongside your other commitments, 👍👏👏👏👏

    Been using a few of these over the last few weeks mate. They are excellent, as is to be expected. I have it on good authority, that they have had some formula tweaks. As you commented they are an improvement.
    LOL with the beard, just shaved mine off and regretted it with these sub zero temperatures, but it is better than that irritating feeling, of having something crawling around your face LOL
    Have a great Holiday with your family and I look forward to what projects you have in store for next year.

    Nice vid. interested in the durability of these, especially the high shine ones. Original Alclad was notoriously poor and would not tolerate masking etc. Your thoughts?

      Hi mate. I've not really had much of a problem but then I don't often use the polished aluminium, chrome etc.

      @@thescalemodellingcafe thanks Jamie. Despite having it consistently referred to as “lolclad” on the Scale Modelers Critique Group (where people generally know their stuff), I have been drawn to Alclad / A-Stand’s real metallic-“ness”, like a sailor being drawn to the rocks by a siren :)
      It will make an interesting experience given I am otherwise solely MRP, which is bulletproof, but I just love the look of your EE Lightning, so I’m going to give it a whirl on my 1/32 Ki-61. Thanks again, and very much looking forward to more of your Malta Spit vids! 👍👍👍

    So..are we talking of rebranded Alclad?
    May I ask you about the gloss base primer?
    Is the Black gloss primer exactly like the Alclad 2 gloss black base? Consistency etc?
    Thanks

      Re-brand but with a few tweaks. The gloss primer seemed the same to me mate

    I'm a huge fan of Aqua Gloss but it's been hard to find recently - guess this was why. Hopefully the supply improves now.

    Wouldn't it be nice if paint manufacturers put a gap or a small vertical transparent line in their label wraps so we could see how much paint is left in the jar/bottle.

    Any precautions about masking over them with Tamiya masking tape? May have to give these a go since Model Master Metallizers are no longer available and my stash is just about gone. Thanks for the review Jamie!

    • @thescalemodellingcafe
      @thescalemodellingcafe  Год назад

      No Bobby, they dry extremely quickly and are fine to mask. Sometimes the Chrome or Polished Aluminium can be a little fragile and lift but if the surface is cleaned and then primed there shouldn't be a problem.

    Interesting review, you said these were available now but I can't seem to find the link you mentioned you were going to add and they do not seem to be on the AMMO web site! Any news when they may be available please?

      A few places in the UK have them, see what a quick Google search comes up with. I think Ammo are waiting for a big re-stock.

    I am curious about these because if they are actually lacquer, as opposed to some of them being enamel, I'd be very interested in them. Any word, or you having them on hand and being able to smell them, whether the previous enamel products in this line are now actually lacquer as advertised?

    • @thescalemodellingcafe
      @thescalemodellingcafe  Год назад

      They are lacquer. Pop over and have a look at my Airfix Lightning build to see them in action.

      @@thescalemodellingcafe Thanks! I might have missed it but are the "klear kote" etc all lacquers? If so I'm ordering a bunch of these soon.

    Why are you shaking the Aqua Gloss? Alclad says not to on the bottle. Unless this is a different formula?

  • @TheScubapez376
    @TheScubapez376 Год назад +1

    I believe Alclad split its production. One went stateside, the other (UK) became HR Hobbies. It appears HR Hobbies have now sold out to MIG to become the A-Stand range. The bottles used by A-Stand range are identical to the HR Hobbies bottles after they split production. As part of the creation of MIG A-Stand, HR Hobbies have now seized production and supply. When production for Alclad was split the USA side still retained the trademarks for Alclad but was under agreement to not supply the UK market, leaving that for HR Hobbies. I am unsure if HR Hobbies are making the A-Stand range or if production is elsewhere, but it’s basically the same formulation from the original Alclad paints.

    I use alclad or tamiya LP metallics which are less smelly but i like alclad because theyre pre-thinned.
    jet exhaust color would be a nice colour on a dodge charger! I like steel and exhaust manifold which has a bronze tint.
    I wear a good quality mask but dont have a spray booth or extractor i just spray near a window. Not sure if this is adequate Jamie?? I can smell mr surfercer alot but not tamiya,gunz or ammo acrylics.
    I would like to go true acrylic but every modeller i see now use lacquers and metallic acrylics dont look as good.

      AK have some acrylic metallics - haven't used them myself but there are reviews and demos out there. I've just ordered some Mission Model metallics to try on a paint mule before tackling a Lightning and the underside of an early Spit. Normally I use Vallejo Metal Colour and they've been fine but haven't used them over a large surface yet.
