This is a legit product. I love when people/companies identify a need (no matter how obscure) and create simple yet effective solutions. Thanks for the Vid!
This is great because I take my Swiss every where. No one thinks wait I need to bring flint and tinder but someone like me who uses a Swiss Army for just about everything this just make my Swiss even better. Again 🙏
Purchased the short/long kit a while back and very pleased. Very expensive at $40 on Amazon for 8 flints. However, glad I have this with me when hiking/camping without packing a separate larger fire starter. Still on the first striker stick and have used it to start 8 fires and still have plenty of fire steel left. I've found the saw back to work best like your video demonstrates. Great product.
Very cool ..... I made a primitive one 20 years ago for a champion using a flint , a small empty BIC pen tube ( that holds ink ) it tucks under the pliers and I used a flint wheel kept permanently on the key ring to strike . Heat the tube (match length)slide the flint into it . Strike on the file actually works better using the metal saw edge .. But this product is even better as the tooth pic barely gets used love the fact the tinder has wax to make it burn for a whole min... 👍
Awesome Firestarters and Ferro Rods! I wonder why nobody thought of that before? Those work pretty great and fit perfectly with them. Thanks for reviewing! I may have to look into these.
Actually, I did back around 2005. I emailed SAK and made a suggestion and they replied back saying that they already had the pouch and that people could add what they wanted to that. I also made a suggestion for the cork screw to be able to slide a small vial in it to keep some potassium permanganate for extreme emergency water treatment, but again they were not interested. They also said that they felt the fire steel was too small to be of any real use and would break easily and have people wanting new ones and making claims. I said that's easy to fix, just put in the instructions that you MUST use the knife to cut a small twig and make a flat spot on twig to lay the fire steel on for support BEFORE striking...no magic, but again, they shot me down. I gave up, but I'm even happier an AMERICAN brought this to market and I hope they see it....now they'll probably copy it.
@@wjf213 I am not sure if it was related to anything you or someone with the current company had done, but IIRC I saw some hand made versions that were similar to the Fireant. I have the Firefly but since I always have my BSA Hot-Spark on my keychain have never actually substituted the toothpick. I might give up my mini screwdriver for the FireAnt. Even if I don't, I love the idea of the helix tinder. That would work with the mini screwdriver just fine and provide some quick emergency tinder if I needed to use my hot-spark. I came back to add, there is a guy that does a lot of videos on using and/or modifying Swiss Army Knives. I saw one recently where he pointed out that "plus scales" actually have an extra channel that can be opened for use. That would be a perfect place to keep the displaced toothpick or the Firefly. He went on to show how to shorten the toothpick and use it to make the channel into a container for something vital, such as a needle (IIRC) but one could stop sooner and use the modification.
Great video, I’m not normally a SAK guy but just got a huntsman so going to start carrying it to see how I get on with it. We go camping and day hiking a fair bit always making fires and this would be a great addition. Thanks for your review.
Cost: one reason for the cost is that the quality of the rod is very high, meaning that it produces very hot sparks very easily. Felix Immler, of Victorinox fame, has a RUclips video showing how he lights over 100 fires with the Firefly! Check it out! Another tinder idea is cotton make-up pads and Covid style hand sanitiser (Gel, not liquid). Just rub a blob of gel into a pad and hit it with a spark, and it goes up instantly! Keep them separately in Zip-loc bags, and use one at a time when needed. Don't pre-make them up, as the alcohol evaporates very quickly. Cheers mate!
Agreed on making you want to carry a sak more. It actually made me order a camper to replace one I lost who knows how many years ago, and now it's part of my daily carry with a firefly and helix tinder. They also made tinder that's windproof, so even better.
I had seen the firefly toothpick replacement before but I never thought it would work and that it would snap easily but by your vid, it actually looks pretty strong.
Already have one and it works amazingly bought one for my son and four grandchildren to go into their Swift Army knives that I bought them a couple years ago bought this last year to put in them
I currently have the fire fly in all my SAKs and even though I see no value in the fire ant rod because of it's size and because I have the eye glasses screwdriver in the same spot. I do look forward to being able to get some of the helix tinder to put along with the mini screwdriver.
Cool idea! I have an EDC with a fire steel. but I also regularly carry a SAK in a leather pouch on my belt. So I ordered a few of these. Thanks for the info👍
Hi have a fire fly in every Swiss Army knife I own and they are awesome I recently got some of the tinder ones also and they seem to be holding up well in my pocket of my EDC so far we’ll see overtime how they hold up in their
Sweet, I Thought I recognized the name, Lars from survival russia showed the ones that replace the toothpick a couple of years ago, but have been doing some innovating, cause those two news one that screw on to the corkscrew are pretty neat. Thanks for showing Ben.
Some innovative stuff. I'd prefer to lose the tweezers (most first aid kits include them) rather than remove the mini screw driver from the corkscrew, as the mini screw driver is too handy to do away with.
There's quite a bit of room there. I put a needle with some thread wrapped around it. I believe I saw that on a Felix Immler video. With the right amount of thread it fits perfectly down between the spacers.
That is Awesome, wish I could get a few Firefly's for my Hiker and Fieldmaster, but being in Australia, it seems almost impossible. I'll keep trying though...Cheers
Great video Ben. I already have the Firefly and I’m already sold on its capabilities for quite a while now. It also glows for a really long time. The fire ant looks great for the corkscrew portion of the SAK. I like that it glows as well. I noticed the Helix tinder outer coating seems to be crumbling into little pieces every time you handle it which I would have concerns about it as it rubs in the pocket.
Great demo for these. Also, you mentioned they were $4 ?! I missed out on that deal, they start out at $20 on their website. I wonder how many sparks/ strikes you get from each little rod
I would avoid the little corkscrew model as it will break very easy, it doesn't take a lot of effort to break it either. The toothpick models work very well. And in an emergency don't worry about using your blade to strike it.
Bought the fire ant and the fire steel came loose from the plastic corkscrew piece . Good idea but they are too expensive for what it is in my opinion .
Hahahahahahahaha. I made the corkscrew one ages ago and got a provisional patent on it. I've even sent the drawings and product details to Victorinox by email. To their D&P engineer and they just let it go through lack of interest. i called mine The Swiss Nano Spark.
Super video! Thanks a lot for this video! Greetings from Switzerland!
Knew I would find you here
Whaoooo ! THE FELIX IMMLER HIMSELF!!
When your SAK video gets a thumbs up from Felix, you know you're on point.
Felix Immler Ello Felix! Just finished your tips and tricks playlist and then I was sent to this video😁
Helo from indonesia,,i made custom ,, inspired by your channel 👍
Finally the one item missing from Swiss Army knives 👍🏻
This is a legit product. I love when people/companies identify a need (no matter how obscure) and create simple yet effective solutions. Thanks for the Vid!
i would say, there must be plenty of peaple in Victorinox thinking, why we didnt thing about it?
This is great because I take my Swiss every where. No one thinks wait I need to bring flint and tinder but someone like me who uses a Swiss Army for just about everything this just make my Swiss even better. Again 🙏
Survival Russia recommended these many months ago, when I bought them, and they are great!

I also do a LOT of research. But you, sir, consistently introduce me to stuff I’d never seen before. Thanks much.
I must have these!
I know your comment is years back, but if you get notified i commented, what sort of research have you accumulated regarding SAK's/edc gear???
The firefly is just a brilliant idea. Thanks, Ben, for bringing it to our attention!
Done, just ordered six of them on kick starter!! Awesome addition to all of my Swiss Army knives.
What’s the name?
Very cool .....

Tortoise gear is made in my valley. Just shared with my son and a friend. Ready to pursue new adventures.

There's a tiny hole under the corkscrew where you can install a straight pin...
Because you put a regular one on the key chain ring
Great video, I’m not normally a SAK guy but just got a huntsman so going to start carrying it to see how I get on with it. We go camping and day hiking a fair bit always making fires and this would be a great addition.
Thanks for your review.
Thanks Tim.

I have fire ant and love it. Great product and great match up for the SAK
ive been aware of these since they were first released. your video made me buy a set.
Bloody Brilliant Idea - I use the hiker model as my EDC.
I had seen the firefly toothpick replacement before but I never thought it would work and that it would snap easily but by your vid, it actually looks pretty strong.
Already have one and it works amazingly bought one for my son and four grandchildren to go into their Swift Army knives that I bought them a couple years ago bought this last year to put in them
These are pretty cool! I just got my Victorinox Mountaineer in the mail. I may have to get some of these upgrades.
I got both on all my SAKs. I love stuff like this.

The wire stripper on the cap lifter works to strike the "toothpick" ferro rod too.
Cool idea!
I have an EDC with a fire steel. but I also regularly carry a SAK in a leather pouch on my belt. So I ordered a few of these.
Thanks for the info👍
I’ve had the firefly for months. Awesome addition to my Rangergrip SAK
Wow. Makes an great edc even better! Nice job.
That is a winner, for sure. I’ll get one as soon as possible.
Ben,I upgraded my Ruike ld31 with the larger fr. I have tweezers on my swak camper,I carry both and love having multiple options.
Great video
Ben that is a sweet add on definitely makes it more functional good find 🤙🏻 cool new logo too
Nice that's awesome I like the cork screw one and the fire tender super smart
Thanks for the review and thanks for letting us know about the resolution issue.
Super Cool for Sure! I'll be looking into getting some of these for both my kit SAKs and my EDC One Hand Trekker.
That’s actually pretty awesome
I bought a 3-pack of the Fire Ant after watching this video !
Very cool products. You did a great job finding them.
Very cool. Will definitely have to get one for my SAK! Thanks for the review!
Just ordered a 3 pack of the fire ants, great idea hands down 👍
Hi have a fire fly in every Swiss Army knife I own and they are awesome I recently got some of the tinder ones also and they seem to be holding up well in my pocket of my EDC so far we’ll see overtime how they hold up in their
Great innovative product. A must have item to round out your Swizz Army Knife capabilities.
That's awesome! Finally someone put it in production 🙌

I purchased a cadet a locks from Swiss Bianco. It has a built in fire steel on the backside. A bit expensive but very interesting knife.
Excellent product sir, didn't expected this.
Cool throw them both on there as a back up to the back up good deal in my book
Great idea. Thank you for showing it to us, Ben
There’s room ‘under’ the saw blade to place a thin ferro rod.
Good idea!👍
There's quite a bit of room there. I put a needle with some thread wrapped around it. I believe I saw that on a Felix Immler video. With the right amount of thread it fits perfectly down between the spacers.
@@clange50 My Swiss Champ has room under the Philips screwdriver. I keep a ferro rod in that space.
Ben, thanks for the review, these are amazing products for the Swiss army knife
Pretty cool idea. Definitely going to have to check those out.
Those toothpicks are nothing new, have being around for some year. The cork one, yes, i believe you make the first review of it :)
That's so clever! I love the innovation!
Great show, great choice of products! Very cool!
That is Awesome, wish I could get a few Firefly's for my Hiker and Fieldmaster, but being in Australia, it seems almost impossible.
I'll keep trying though...Cheers
Great take on these products, Ben. Thanks!
excellent bit of gear, I'm in the UK so deffo be ordering, thx for the vid dude
Martin Orchard currently on kickstarter ships worldwide in July for $16 set of 3
That Amazing!!! Definitely order some of these! Thanks for sharing
Cotton is fairly easy to light up...
Can those thin Ferro rods start a fire in the woods?
I have too much respect for the mini screwdriver to ditch it.
That's how I freakin' open my large blade if my hands are wet.
Dude... that’s freaking awesome!!!
Great video Ben.
I already have the Firefly and I’m already sold on its capabilities for quite a while now. It also glows for a really long time.

That's awesome, I have several models of Swiss Army knives that I could use these. Thanks for the info!
Brilliant, need to get myself some of these
Gracias por compartir tus experiencias y demostraciones de estas herramientas y accesorios. 👍👍👍
I so need this. I’m in the UK & only allowed a Swiss Army knife as edc. Hope I can get one.
The Swiss are on their A game.
that's great ,,, now need to buy it that is fantastic Thanks
great for my Swiss Army CHAMPS,tnx
The knife manufacturer should include it in the purchase of the knive
This is nice, but I'd rather have a diamond honing rod for the knife blade instead of a sparker.
That thing is pretty sweet!
That is awesome! I had never heard of these products before, thanks for making this video!
Jason Young the fire ant is still on kickstarter for $16 and get a set of 3.
Just picked up a 4 pack for the large swiss army knives. Also picked up a Victorinox Forester in black from Russia to go with it lol.
from where did you busy
This is the balls! Thx for the info!
Add vaseline and last longer. Just found that out and with this will last even longer awsome
Great demo for these. Also, you mentioned they were $4 ?! I missed out on that deal, they start out at $20 on their website. I wonder how many sparks/ strikes you get from each little rod
I'm getting this for sure. Thanks for sharing.. When's live video coming out again. You and the family stay safe during these times.
TwitchRadio I will be on Urban Prepper’s Live Stream tomorrow (Sat 1PM EST)
One fire fly plus two or three fire starters in the corkscrew.
I just put a 1/2 inch by 3 inch ferro rod on the key ring
I would avoid the little corkscrew model as it will break very easy, it doesn't take a lot of effort to break it either. The toothpick models work very well. And in an emergency don't worry about using your blade to strike it.
Very nice good job finding that
I love this, gotta see if I can get me one
The video recommends using the back of the saw. What about the bottle opener?
You can go with both you know
I want more zombie apocalypse survival episodes!!
What an awesome product! This was one swell video :)
Love it! That's going on my Hiker.
I ordered the Firefly 8 pack.
Can’t find these in the uk, been looking for months! Great vid 👍👍
steve adcock go to kickstarter they still have it available for $16 and ship’s worldwide. Company is called green tortoise and called fire ant
I gotta have these ASAP. Alan Rice.
Anyone have any idea how long these last?? How many strikes you get from them? Cheers! Fab video!!
Enough for many fires if your tinder is setup right.
Awesome accessories 👍
Very good review. Thank you.
Bought the fire ant and the fire steel came loose from the plastic corkscrew piece . Good idea but they are too expensive for what it is in my opinion .
I purchased the fire ant weeks ago....waiting for it to come in - Kickstarter. Firefly was out already.
Jennifer F me too, can’t wait!
Very very engenious. Thank you.
Hahahahahahahaha. I made the corkscrew one ages ago and got a provisional patent on it. I've even sent the drawings and product details to Victorinox by email. To their D&P engineer and they just let it go through lack of interest. i called mine The Swiss Nano Spark.
Steve Cranna Awesome
Hey Ben have you had any of these brake?? I've seen that as a complaint in reviews!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Really good video
Can it fit into the pen slot on the swiss champ? I'm guessing the fit won't be snug enough.
