    I've done TONS of hardwood installs, but only a small handful of vinyl installs. Today I was supposed to do a small bathroom with the exact same product as this, but I chickened out because I was concerned about leaving that "floating floor gap" against the tub. Didn't know if it was safe to make it tighter. But... Thanks for giving me more confidence! It's very small room and there WILL be a T-mould at the door, so now I can see what to do. Thanks!

I am now disgusted with the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom and my next project will be bathroom vanity replacements. I’d spoken with a local guy who said not to install the LVP under kitchen cabinets due to expansion/contraction… Do you have and suggestions for bathroom vanities? Can I install the full floor in the bathroom and place a vanity on top of it?

    Joe, we are doing LVP throughout our new house, hoping to not need any transitions. Our guest bathroom will have the planks running parallel to the tub, as in this video, but our master bath will have the planks perpendicular to the tub and to the separate shower. Would your instructions be any different, other than making sure the butt ends are aligned as perfectly as possible? Thank you.

    Shouldn't there be a gap between the tub and flooring? It seems doing it the way you show could make it prone to buckling. I'm curious to hear your response. I have seen others use quarter round glued to the tub to hide the gap. Definitely not as clean-looking as your solution, but that would allow expansion of the floor without potential for buckling.

    • @SoThatsHowYouDoThat
      @SoThatsHowYouDoThat  4 года назад

      Yes you can install over a vinyl floor. If that metal Edge sticks up above the floor you can cut that out. Just cut an inch back from the tub with a utility knife or an oscillating saw and then pry out that metal you will then have to fill the gap with some floor fill

    Joel...you are the man! Have spent the whole morning watching your laminate install videos, so good. Quick question, I am super tempted to carry on our laminate flooring (NOT Vinyl) into our bathroom just to continue the look of the flooring from the rest of the main floor. If I was to glue or silicone each joint in the bathroom, can I get away with using this product in the bathroom? Somehow I feel that if a board or two did happen to get damaged from water after a couple of years, I could even just replace those few boards...? Sorry for the novel here lol! Take care!

    Well, FUDGE! I just finished laying all my vinyl plank flooring and removed all the baseboard molding and door trim because my plank flooring required me to have about a 30 degree angle to get these to lock together and not leave an unsightly gap. I would have loved to have known that little red planer trick before I started this job. Although at the end of the job, I can honestly say I believe I did a much better job than hiring a professional because I'm so OCD. The ends of my LVP were against the tub but I did leave enough gap on the opposite end for expansion. The so-called professionals that removed and reinstalled my toilet put the toilet back before I was able to replace the trim, so now I have to replace the trim in two pieces because one piece will not fit the angle. That, or I will need to remove the toilet reservoir and see if I can slide a piece down behind the toilet that way.

  • @ceceliafenwick317
    @ceceliafenwick317 3 года назад

    Hi! When you are measuring your 10 boards for your cheat sheet you have tape measure start at 1 inch. Is that lined up to include male end or just the board? It is hard to tell for sure. At the other end it seems to stop at flooring edging. Like you said a fraction off x 30 boards down the line can add up to a big gap. You are amazing. I feel like I can do this now.

    • @SoThatsHowYouDoThat
      @SoThatsHowYouDoThat  3 года назад

      Only measure the face of the plank, not the locking system. You got this!!

  • @BennyTBass

    another question because you look like you know your stuff. My little house is like a T. the living room is long N-S. so i will run planking that way. the hall goes off to the east so if i don't twist the planks, they will all be short and not run lengthwise. Ok, well if that's fine, in that case, when i get to the tub, it will all be end pieces hitting the tub, not one lone piece. What is your suggestion for this house? stick with all running N-S? for the most part, when you look into the bedroom, and into the bedroom, you're looking north. but when you look down the hall, it's east.

      Sure. I would use a shoe made from pvc in the bathroom, or at least next to the tub.
