@Han Shi Noah’s friend was really talking about hegemonic proximity - in a oversimplified way. I would imagine nonmixed people vastly out number those who are, but, perhaps a mixed person automatically inherits access even if they aren’t ambitious. Trevor happens to be smart and talented on top of the supposed access.

Loved his book! And there’s a book that The Daily Show put out a few years ago with the former president’s tweets and categorizing them to create some different perspective in understanding the person…wow, it really helped me to step back and try to see things more neutrally and with a sense of humor to not take quite so things seriously. Just genius stuff he creates! Have you seen his Between the Scenes from the show?…comedy improv but done so authentically. To see someone famous who does everything from Jay-Z’s impromptu bodyguard to hopping in the street sweeper’s truck and riding around NY sweeping streets…I hope his down-to-earthness always remains strong. 💜

His stand up is honestly a lot better than his hosting of the Daily Show...better than most actually. What sets him apart is that he is very good with accents and languages. That is why he can perform anywhere and appeal to different audiences globally.
As a South African I only ever knew him as a stand up. The reason he was beating every other stand up in South Africa (a country with 11 official languages/tribes) is that he was able to tap into everybody's cultural psyche or way of thinking.
He has just made that a global thing now. So, a joke that somebody in say in the United States might not get, somebody in Australia or the UK definitely will. That is the skill. That ability is why he blended in so well when he hit the British markets, and then the Australian markets etc.
I remember he did this one bit about colonization in India and the whole of India flooded his comments section. Not only did he hit the accents out the park but he got the Indian logic too. It gave Indians an opportunity to laugh at themselves in a way that they wouldn't have been able to with other international comedians.
Then there was this one where he told an otherwise bland story about the royal wedding until there was this opportunity to slip in a fictional story about a Nigerian wedding. Nailed the accent, nailed the body language, and everything else that goes with it. Guess what, the whole of Nigeria was in the comments section. He has a universal appeal that is very unique.
But I have lost a bit of interest in him since he got the Daily Show gig. I am happy for his success but it feels like he has been dragged into an environment that is not natural to him, limiting even. I know it is a generalization about the United States but it feels like he is just churning stuff out for the sake of it now, American style. The dollar has taken over his comedy and the nuance has been lost.

Wow! Great interview! I love Trevor Noah for his intelligence, humor and big time insight. His friends are so cool! Trevor played a huge part in keeping me calm throughout the insanity of 2020. Watching him do his show from home in his hoodies, while his beautiful natural hair grew out from the buzz, was like having a really cool friend to FaceTime with, minus the interaction. Well, I was commenting and laughing but Trevor couldn’t hear it. Hear me now Trev! Thank you! 😎

I thought Trevor was too young and just a rash whipper snapper. I refused to watch the Daily Show for a few years! When I did start watching, I could not get enough. Love everything about this comedy genius and how he keeps it 100% - every day!!

So happy for David Kibuuka to remember this guy doing skits on the Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola around 2010 to this, this is amazing.

I'm really happy for Trevor, and I got a carriage a while ago when he said he didn't know that he was depressed for a longest of time by sleeping the whole day didn't way go out, you know what that was me growing up ,I'll prefer sleeping and reading novels just to be on the other world, and it took me a long time to understand not to surround yourself with people who will not make you accountable even if you wrong ... right now it's been 3 yrs of distancing myself to them , and the unfortunate part the lesson I learned when I lost all the material things and the fortunate part I'm starting all over again and it feels good and I'm doing well at a my own pace not rushing anything
    Big ups to TN
