Can we just acknowledge Thomas’ personal style? Dude fresh AF.
This is my 19” crash. I use that as a splash.
that is funny dude
@@patrickthisandthat Or ''This is my 26'' Ride, I use it as a crash.''
this is a 2013 chevy cobalt I use that as a crash
That dude should be in a band!
I hope you're trolling
Alexandre Piché No, really! He's pretty good! :-P
Horatio Trismegistus He already is! look at Meshuggah
Alexandre Piché I mean a _real_ band!
Sorry, I can't do it.. Just having fun, I've been a Meshuggah fan for over 15 years...
Horatio Trismegistus That's what I thought hehe you troll
Man, would I love to hear him jam with a jazz trio. Haake is truly gifted,
yes but also just fuck jazz. Jazz is boring and you don't listen to it.
The warmth and depth to these drums are beautiful.
The _warpth_ and _dermth_ are even better!
The Djarmth & Djepth are to die for.
It's just the heads
No matter what you do, if you put a ride in front of Thomas Haake, he's gonna crash it...
Forgettable hell yeah
This is no puns right? 😂
I'm not a drummer, but always done this when I play drums. I always felt it's like a doom/sludge thing? Is it not normal to do so?
@@VagrantShadow typically people ride on a ride
If you were to put a ride in front of me, crashing would be the Only thing I do... at least for the first 5 minutes...
That snare's crack alone could keep me coming back to this video every other day, but Tomas' playing on top of it.. Perfect. Thank you Sonor.
That bass drum sounds so amazing..
Can Tomas start his own fusion side project already? Even if it’s some fusion metal à la Planet X, i really want to be listening to his playing in a fusion context
There’s so much potential right there that needs to be adressed
a few moments later😂
I cannot wait for the next Meshuggah album
fall 2016!!!!!!
Zen Zstephen Valdeez yes sir!
i heard from 3 people who were at the official listening party here in nyc, that it is their best album yet.
+Jonathan Silva that's what I like to hear!!!!
It'll be all vintagy with strats and teles.
Nice to see a metal drummer have an active left foot on the hi-hat and doing awesome single pedal. Tomas is my fav right now.
I remember meeting Thomas Haake and his brother outside of the TLA,in Philly during the Koloss Tour. Got my picture taken w him and he wanted to give me a drumstick, but the tourbus was locked...and the fucked up thing is,...I lost that damn picture in the cloud somewhere, since at the time i was saving Google pics under a different email address and cant figure what email or password to this day, even if I did find the email. Such a nice guy&his brother is funny. Fun fact- Thomas' brother actually makes guitar pedals and midi equipment for Frederick Thordendal. That was my 5th time seeing Meshuggah. The 4th time i saw em was at the Trocadero in Philly and there were literally about only 800 ppl there. The floor was empty, and i thought, WTF is goin on?!?🤔
I'm sure he has a quad core brain. The sound of the bass and snare drums is second to none, fantastic.
Wow what a surprise to hear Tomas play like this when you consider his discography with Meshuggah.
Shows his range as a player. Bravo 🙌 😊
Plays with power and swing. Those Sonors !!!
snare sound is just astonishing
smooth like lotion. master at work
He and Danny Carey are like the best two drummers in this world and a couple of other worlds too.
they are good, have you seen Dirk Verbeuren though?
Oh yeah Soilwork, that's been a while haven't listened to that. He's great too.
Check out Elliot Hoffman of Car Bomb. I completely agree with you but this dudes the next generation of ultimate metal drummers.
I’m all with you that he is a true player but by “best “ and “world” you are referring to bands you like in your world? Because I’m positive he would deny being anywhere near “the best “ and best at what? Too many drummers whom he wouldn’t be able to cover. Gavin Harrison? Thomas Lang? Vinnie Colaiuta? The list of outstanding drummers is endless. Steve Smith is part of this video series. You think TH has the technical prowess to even consider pulling that solo off?
There both extremely overrated.
Like a Gar Samuelson converting from Jazz to Metal. ❤
My favorite drummer...hope for a clinic session in Italy!
These left hand hand ghost notes on the snare...
Doing thoose ghost notes like him is harder than playing bleed:D
Yeah, what about them? Please complete your stupid thought.
Bromoteknada you’re a fucking loser
Bromoteknada he just commented admiring haakes ghost notes stop being so salty
I agree them ghost notes.... He is a master.
I like your musical vision, and your playing, endeed! thanks 4 your great contribution in the musical world! long life!
Great sound / beautiful subtle reverb / very inspiring playing!
Some new definition for Jazz World and sound.
Holy shit that thing at the end was crazy. Never saw this before, pretty cool.
Anyone else digging those hats?
Oh my god, I would abandon my entire Meinl Byzance setup and move to Sabian if I could find a pair of those compression hats for sale. They are SO loud when played with the foot. They literally cut through everything.
Daniel Calderon you can have sabian custom make them for you!
He's not wearing any hats, what are you talking about?
Christoph Uschold best comment out there no cap
Wow, they sound incredible
so much love for Tomas's playin'
I mean he’s pretty good and all, but I bet he couldn’t play bleed.
He actually couldn't play bleed it took him along time to get it right that's fact coming from him actually meshugga record drums in studio without real drums
@@nmac3718 The last few records have had live drum performances, though Haake uses edrum triggers on his acoustic kit. The records are him playing, not programmed drums. Accept 'Catch Thirty-three' and 'I', those were programmed. The reason Haake 'couldn't play' the song Bleed was because they never play the songs in full in the studio, they 'punch in' parts and piece songs together that way. He likely could play each part by itself, but to perform the song in it's over 7 minutes of constant 'brrta brrrta' in it's entirety, for a large production live show and tour, it took him a while to learn it all to the level of his own satisfaction.
Meshuggah members pretty much mainly Haake and Thordendal program drums and write the songs with that and guitars(8 stingers). They use computer software to write and then go in the studio and work the shit out to record a proper album with songs that can be played live. @n mac In the interview you are referring to, where Tomas Haake talks about how he 'couldn't play' the song Bleed, he also said because of that fact, that he struggled to learn the song, they were not going to even include the song Bleed on the Obzen record. He learned it after all, so I guess your whole point was meaningless anyways, he DID learn Bleed, and plays it tighter than I thought possible live.
I've been waiting for this
One of my favourite ever vids on RUclips
He totally wants to play Nostrum lol
I was thinking that too! It would've sounded great on that kit!
@Shaun Lyman wth did you just say? I've read it several times and it doesn't make sense
John Arnold those other players a good but no one can blend together drum lines as well as Tomas.
Wow. Powerful playing and very warm drum sound. Wonder if my -66 Teardrops will match
Dude that fukn snare crack 👌
Haake is my spirit animal
GOD
video was too short, great groove, great drummer.
This guy can make any fuckin kit sound good.
Original, impredisible, creativo.
Love this guy
Tomas needs to do a drum solo during Meshuggah's set!!
It would be so nice to hear Thomas Haake playing in others band (and playing in other styles of music). Like John Stanier in Battles..! What do you think ?
+Nicolas Martigne If I remember well Haake himself said in an interview that he's dedicated only to Meshuggah and this is the reason why he never joined any other band.
One of my favorite drummer. A beast !!
Tommaso capo della galassia.
Incredible. Drums sound killer. What are those hi-hats?
+Mike King HHX Compression hats
So Tomas can play stuff that us mere mortals can somewhat eventually learn to play...unlike whats hes done with meshuggah and pretty much need him.
also weird seeing him on a "small" kit
By FAR the best drummer in history.
No. By FAR, the best drummer in history. Thematically and schematically, his drum parts have more thought in 16 bars than most drummers can squeeze into an entire album.
I wouldnt ever disagree with your statement, but Jay Postones, Stef Broks and Joey Baca are....getting up there.
What about Danny Carey?
Seriously. These do it all, so why not? This is what I needed.
buddy rich?
I'd rather see more solos done by Thomas than 10 Steve Smith videos. What an amazing drummer, I just wish they would put more of Thomas' solos on youtube.
Awsome.
That's nice mate. Have you heard of Meshuggah? Their drummer's got a similar vibe.
YES! Tomas Haake drum DVD 😉
That was a great sabian cymbal demo! 👍
I only wish this was longer
That snare!!!!!!
Sweet bandsaw, dude!
Dude loves his ghost notes so much, he be ghosting the air at 0:20 in... All hail meshuggah!
lol that hi hat. in the first seconds i thought he's playing a stack.
Gotta be careful driving with Mr. Haake, he turns every every ride into a crash
I echo the comments here begging for Thomas to join or start a non-metal project. I love Meshuggah (at least what they've done for the last 20 years), but I would love to hear what he'd do in very different context. I think he'd nail it.
A M A Z I N G
Benny Greb, Chris Coleman, Tomas Haake... Sonor drums sound sweeet
Tomas is such a beast, but his face always looks like he's waiting in line at the bank.
How to play like this? I mean, what kind of rudiments and such is he utilizing in these fills?
+Adrian Roberts Polymeters over 4/4 - Lots of ghost notes and the fills are coming in halfway in almost as a bridge to the downbeats. Look up some King Crimson, Haake and Danny Carey both experiment with African-style rhythms. It's all in the groove, my man.
WHOAAA who's got he 50 second mark break down??
Master
drums sound incredible
Heck yeah that was really awesome
Being a drummer myself, starting to listen to Meshuggah quite late in my life, my favourite drummers are (in no particular order):
Alex Van Halen, Jimmy Chamberlin, John Bonham, Matt Cameron, Tomas Haake, Marco Minnemann, Phil Collins, Mike Bordin and Buddy Rich.
What are your favourites?
Classy Groovy Sir
This guy's going places
Can anyone link me to where you can buy the compression hats? Thanks ^^
still love your drumming!!
1:07 🤯
So good!
I want to see Jack DeJohnette give these babies a try! Who's with me?
Check out the super baddass drummer from Meshuggah, playing super dynamically and tastefully (not that I am saying he doesn't in his band) but this doesn't sound like a metal drummer at all. The dude has got serious depth.
Same as Kai Hahto!
*J A Z Z M E T A L*
Dear lord, how do I make my bass drum sound like that?!
Foda demais, muita pressão!
Jazz hands haake
everything looks so white in this video... the kit with his hair :O
Hey this is my 21" hats and I also crash it.
waiting for the last one. Benny Greb's solo on vintage series!
Ngl very wanting to see thomas haake playing some fusion to really show off his chops and groove more. Don't hate me pls 😭 I love meshuggah
Wanted, bre
HQ version please :(
😎
He looks funny playing that tiny kit
Du är bäst Thomas
I love that Tomas grabs the sticks from the very bottom, but I can't do it :c xD
I would love to see him do an instrumental album with raw drum sounds, there is something that is lost in the programmed Meshuggah parts, though they are incredible.
+Richard David Abidor The only album were Meshuggah used Programmed drums was Catch 33 all the other albums were recorded with real drums. They only program drums for the writing process nothing else.
+Richard David Abidor I think you mean triggered drums, not programmed. I believe the last non triggered album was Nothing.
triggered is just so raw! organic shadows... oh man
Richard David Abidor NON triggered?
caótico y violento
look, this is GOD
Strange to see him behind a small jazzy kit :D
so fuckin sick
Fuck yes
Thor playing Sonor drums.
In the pocket
Pure fucking groove
I don't really know why but this video makes me wish he would play with a big band at some point. This playing reminds me of Buddy Rich somehow!
Meshuggah is the most 'Massive' band in the Milky Way
👍👍👍
