You know what I love about Steve Smith, he has chops to spare, but he plays the drums in a way that expresses such a deep sense of love and appreciation for those who play and played the instrument! You can hear so many drummers in this performance, but it is entirely Mr. Smith. AWESOME!
@@handidrummed ciao Amico, la tecnica ne ha da vendere.., ma pochi notano l inserimento del levare di questo "pittore" DRUMMER..., è strabiliante... 🌟🧚♂️🕊️✨
Love how Steve caresses everything. Never forced. Each note lovingly enticed from the instrument. It’s almost like the instrument is alive and Steve is coaxing a willing response from it. Look at the way the ride shimmies along it’s edge as the swell is built. Sonor is lucky to have him.
Academy award! MTV Video of the year! This video should be nominated for at least four academy awards: best production, best performance, best sound, best original screenplay. Sonor Drums could be nominated for best supporting actor. Whoever thought of filming this awesome drum solo in the Sonor Factory should have been given a huge bonus.
There are people who play drums. And then there are drummers that play music. There are a lot of the former, and not enough of the latter. Steve is a master of making music on the drums. He's one of my heros.
Steve Smith is one awesome drummer, as well as one humble person! And meeting him really changed my view on great drummer/musicians. I'll never look at playing drums the same again! Successful and humble now days is un heard of...
Wow is all I can say. Superb playing from a true master. Beautiful kit, tuned just perfectly. Great tone all around. Sonor really has a stable of monster players. Jack DeJohnette, JoJo, Joey Baron, Benny Greb, Mikkey Dee, Chris Coleman, Adam Nussbaum. All different styles and genres. I learn something everytime I hear and see Steve Smith. Thank you Sonor!
If Steve Smith ever barged into my house, wiped his muddy shoes on my carpet, ate my sandwich, and told me he was going to play my kit until it was reduced to a pile of ash, I think I would let him. It would be worth it.
Everything about this drum video is perfection. Steve is just so creative and musical. These drums are beautiful and he makes them sing and it seems like they are giving him joy. Now the visual set they’re filming on, his look and the sound quality are all perfect.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥🔥
These are the best Sonor Drums, Sonor has ever made!they sound so big nice and warm🤘 great Sonor 👍 Thank you Steve for an amazing drum video it just sound awesome!!!!
I am trying to decide which drum in the kit sounds best. Can’t do it. They all give me goosebumps! Incredible drums, incredible playing. Kudos to the recording engineer, too! 👏
Steve ; very nice . Gary would be proud . We traded 4's , 8's and drum solo ideas in Gary's basement office/studio back in the 70's at Berklee what a time it was . I'm honored to have space with such an in-lightened spirit . Keep kicking you sound great .
Steve always makes me want to instantly get back in the shed and practice more, especially to work on the never ending improvement of rudiments. And that kit might be the most beautiful sounding drums I've ever heard. Just sublime.
What a treat that was. Steve Smith is leading the pack in my opinion and Sonor is lucky to have him. A great ambassador for drumming and Sonor. On a side not; I am looking to buy a 3 or 4 piece Sonor Phonic kit in Rosewood if anyone is selling.
Steve at his best!!! LORD!! Those tom sounds incredible! Those cymbals sound amazing! That outfit he's wearing ROCKS too!! Who would have thought that he'd be THIS GREAT when he was older?!?! WOW!!
This video made up my mind on the Sonor Vintage series drums. Fantastic sounding drums played by one of my favourite players. Sonor and beech , like peanut butter and jelly.
Such a pleasure to hear this man work the drums. Always manages to pull you along for the ride, incorporating some amazing technique and underpinning it all with a some nice earthy grooves.
Finally they offer a tom mount for the bass. I wish they would include a rosewood finish in this series. I would love a 10,12,14,16, 20 set of these with a metal snare.
that was amazing, I have a love for Sonor and Gretsch drums and that’s what brought me to this RUclips video but the playing was incredible I wish I had some of that talent on the kit, wow Steve really fantastic !’m going home to practice, thank you for the inspiration!
Those are some great sounding drums! Totally vintage vibe in this recording. If I could get a clearer tuning out of my ‘64 Rogers kit (which I love), it would sound like this. I once heard Emmanuelle Caplette play a Sonor Vintage Series Kit, and it was tuned in a more modern way (lower pitches, possibly two-ply heads). I swear, it was the best live drum sound I’ve ever heard. If I had money, I’d buy a bank of every size and model in the series.
I still have my 4 piece Sonor's from 1965, I guess that makes them a vintage kit by reason of the age. No denying Steve Smith is a smokin drummer. Very enjoyable to hear.
Nah, they sill don't come close to the old slingerland, rogers, etc kits :( but they're fine for modern stuff... even though I'd much rather go with ludwig
@@MikeHoltackers Actually, they do. Quite close to the original Sonor Teardrops. Certainly in the same league as the 60s era drums you're comparing them to, if not superior.
Dang....that was just Brilliant. His soloing style just pulls you in. I believe the player elevates the drums....not other way around....but when the instrument can answer the players volley....its fireworks.
Beautifully done , excellent sound, would absolutely love to have my old set I had in 69 , it sounded alot like that one. Steve is a great drummer. No doubt!

Joe Seltzer He’s in command ...
Awesome job Steve!!
Holy geez...SOOOO much going on here. Steve is unbelievably technical and musical. And his Sonors sound unreal.
AND it’s not over-mixed, so you can hear how good these drums really sound
Boy, talk about a beautifully matched kit- tom’s to cymbals and a master just having a blast!
I'm playing Ludwig now, but damn you Sonor, for making such heavenly drums !
That kick is making me cry tears of joy..
I'm with u. My next kit is sonor, no question.
+Rhythmista Ludwig rules!
+Dorian Samaniego Yeah they do !!.. Especially their new club date vintage series and keystone X series from this year's NAMM..
Even if we play other drums (I do), deep down, we all know Sonor are best.
this is how drum solos should sound, not just a flurry of chops and tom fills
that's what it is isn't it?
No, it's melodic, it has groove...

It needs to tell a story
It's breathtaking, and humbling to see a modern master at work.
Steve Smith is now one of my favourites

Now it's all clear... He has the Sauron's ring
:D
He IS the Sauron’s Ring
I had that... got cream from the doctor 😂
These Vintage series have the best tuning range . I just got my 22" 13" 16" and they kick ass no matter how low or how high to tune them .
Finally great Sennheiser microphones over the drums!!!
Sorry, but "Mic's" are only HALF of the equation towards a great drum sound.
lmao when did he say they were the only part of a great drum sound
Smith is a master that gave me so much inspiration as a young drummer. Man I miss his power tom sound.

Gavin Harrison and Danny Carey too
day um .... love the sound of the toms !! He's a pretty good drummer....his knowledge of Indian rhythm is impressive.

idk man, not for a sandwich
Sail you can always make another

Mind........blown. Hands down, one of my favorite drummers....ever. Gives a drum kit class.......and, always gets an AMAZING sound out of his drums.
That is why Steve Smith is one of the greatest drummers in the world folks.Awesome demonstration of using all of your equipment to great effect.
I am amazed at how close these sound to the original teardrops from the 60s, particularly the 6-ply teardrops with rounded edges.
These are the best Sonor Drums, Sonor has ever made!they sound so big nice and warm🤘 great Sonor 👍

Maurice Timbers if they are not yet sold ? What are you asking for price?
Jack miak
Im in Australia though...
Lucidcreamin you realize that you only need one kidney, right?
Steve sounds great and for our seasoned drummers like myself at almost 69 . We still got it and you are on it. Like Dave Weckl , Simon Phillips.etc.
MONSTER drummer. And some other 18 drummers decided to down vote this video before jumping off a bridge.
He never ceases to amaze me.
Always love Steve's playing.... rhythmic, musical, very expressive and totally fluid.

Bought this drumset and im never gonna buy another drumset in my life 8 think. they will for sure live my whole lifetime and they sound amazing
A master of flams! That snare sound rules!!!!
Plays a number of styles to show how versatile these drums are. A Sonor man through and through.
a superb technician with a lot of "feel" in those technical chops!
Rock or jazz Steve has some of the best timing I've heard. Killer rolls!

Incredible chops balanced with tone and technique. Simply put this is 5 star Rolls Royce level drumming !
Love Steve & love Sonor. Those teardrop lugs are the vintage bling.
Diddo on the last comment. I've learned so much from Steve Smith. I owe him a lot. Thank you Sir.
Wow...what a terrific performance! Steve is out of this world, and the more Sonor kits I hear, the more I like them. Thanks for sharing. 🤘
This video made up my mind on the Sonor Vintage series drums. Fantastic sounding drums played by one of my favourite players. Sonor and beech , like peanut butter and jelly.
Steve knows how to use double kick creatively
Great style, relaxed. Always a pleasure to watch. One of the great players for me. UK.
The sound of this kit was even more impressive in person... The bass drum blew us away at his clinic.
Such a pleasure to hear this man work the drums. Always manages to pull you along for the ride, incorporating some amazing technique and underpinning it all with a some nice earthy grooves.
Hey Steve, Frodo needs his ring back
Lee Nuxunumo it was never Frodo's ring.
Thank you, Steve ... showin' us how it's done ... smiling throughout. Killer!
Speechless. Those drums are Thunder. The best
Majic, pure majic and I am lost. What a beauty.
Damn I gotta learn how to tune the drums like that. Sounds awesome
Que bárbaro lo que suena esa batería! Y en manos de este maestro ni hablar.
Beautiful tunning, real vintage vibe, and Steve, wow.
Finally they offer a tom mount for the bass. I wish they would include a rosewood finish in this series. I would love a 10,12,14,16, 20 set of these with a metal snare.

just WOW for both the drums and the drummer.
This is like a dream with Steve Smith playing in it - Love it!

much improved what a difference a few decades can make
+Dan Rivera I agree. He was good in the Journey days but after thirty years of shedding - wow.
The man is so relaxed when playing ... secret formula

Excellent beautiful amazing sublime inmortal 🎼 🥁 The Master Steve Smith.. The Guru 🎼🥁🎶🎵
Amazing drummer, one of my top favorite drummers.
he always makes it look effortless.
I deeply fell in love with this drum set! :)
Ohhhh...yeah...that last beat tells a story! I hear the song....we're going have a funky good time.
I still have my 4 piece Sonor's from 1965, I guess that makes them a vintage kit by reason of the age.
No denying Steve Smith is a smokin drummer. Very enjoyable to hear.
i'm guessing Buddy & Louie would have loved a set of these.
Nah, they sill don't come close to the old slingerland, rogers, etc kits :( but they're fine for modern stuff... even though I'd much rather go with ludwig

SuperJazzhead- he did !! It came from a tree that he created, and designed and engineered by craftsman who he created as well.. 😉😉
This guy is now one of my favorites. 👏
That scenery was perfectly chosen! Spot-on, @SonorDrumTube!
Saw Steve June 3,2015 at The Dakota in Minneapolis and he was playing this very Kit. A night to remember forever! He’s my favorite by far.
Set sounds great, about Steve - just no words!!! Wizard!!!
..and that room sounds amazing
That left hand. Superb technician and musician.
What a great sounding kit! and those Hi Hat Cymbals really cut....Awesome!
